One star to the man that came to the door for me & my fiance around 2:30 today with the poor customer service!! I called at 2 today before driving to this location on 69th st. I didn't catch his name but I assume it was the same man who opened the door when we arrived. Anyways, when he answered the phone, I said, oh hey I'm calling to see if you're open but apparently you are since you answered lol. He replied, yes we're open until 4 today. I said, okay cool thanks. He said thanks, as well, and the call ended. Wonderful! My fiance & I are in a fantastic mood to go see if we can find a decent Engagement ring for me here at Lou's Pawn Shop! I've been waiting a long time and we finally figured we have enough money in the budget to go ring shopping. Well, that good mood was VERY short lived. We walked up to the door, pulled once and realized it was locked. There was a sign up saying 2 customer limit, which was understandable. An employee came and opened the door but stood in the way blocking it so we couldn't get in just yet. He said, what are you here for today? I said, we wanna look at rings and possibly buy one. He said, we are understaffed so I can't sell you any rings today. I said, but I called before I came here....he said, I'm sorry I can't sell you rings today that's why I'm answering the door and whatnot. Still in a calm tone I said, oh okay maybe you should just mention that to people when they call before they drive all the way here. THEN HE SAID....Well did you tell anyone what you were coming here for? I told him that no one bothered to ask me! And to have a nice day and we left. Excuse me! I didn't know it was my job to tell ya'll why I was coming there? It's YOUR JOB to assume that the reason I'm calling is because I'm eventually going to show up to either buy/sell/or pawn something right? So my question is, if you know that you are understaffed and you cannot accommodate specific transactions today, then when someone calls to ask if you're open. Why wouldnt you simply say something along the lines of, hey just a heads up depending on what you're looking to come here for, mention that you can only to x,y or z today? But to ask me in a smart tone if I told the person on the phone why I was coming as a rebutle is not okay and to snap at me and ask me that when you never asked me either!! THAT IS PART OF YOUR JOB AS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I'm not a mind reader. Unless you tell me you cannot accommodate all services today, I am going to show up as normal. I left extremely disappointed and I'm reluctant to return. Okay, you can't sell me a ring but he didnt even give me the option to browse either. P.S. Before posting my review, I decided to take a look at other reviews of customers who had a bad experience at this place. I only read 2 of the most recent ones that have 1 star and whomever is writing back in response to these unsatisfied customers needs to rethink how they speak to people. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION IS! And Lou's Pawn Shop deffinitly does not seem to care about how we feel in our bad experiences and they only want to defend their poorly trained staff. As a company, you should have a more positive response to the upset customers and take what we say as constructive criticism. You need to do better and take some initiative in trying to work on your customer service. Instead, you talk back to us 1 star reviewers like we don't matter and it makes you look really bad. Don't even try to write something to defend the employee I wrote about in my experience today! I'd rather you not write a response at all. People just need to read this. At my job, if there is a negative review about an employee, they are asked to have a meeting with whoever is above them, possibly written up/given warning depending on the issue, and given additional training exercises on customer service..lastly the unsatisfied customer would get some kind of discount or accommodation for their next visit. If you are looking for collectible military stuff forget it, not because they don't have anything good, but because they are way overpriced. They have have a lot of highly priced German WWII items of very questionable authenticity, and even authentic items are far too high. When I asked about a worn WWII era German flare gun holster (according to them, a 1938 "Ruger" holtser) with dried leather and it's blacking worn off they quoted me $500. Crazy. She told me that my chain was sold I was so hurt because I needed to know how much money I needed to get to bring with me they never even gave me a Price that it was being sold for I can't just go there standing around I'm Disabled. Then Peggy or Oat told that I needed to focus on my husband instead of worry about a chain what Nerve of someone to say when this what I have been going through I didn't remember the chain because my husband has now become terminately, Stage 5 Kidney Failure, Weak Heart, Diabetes & his lungs you have the Nerve to Say that to me I was in tears my husband brought me that chain my very first gift from him all I wanted to know how much I would have gotten the money I was very honest with them and They played me I didn't get the Renew letter but that could have been because of mail delivery we've been getting everyone mail so they have gotten mine I fon't know I not given them a rating because they deserve known for lying ​ read more

What a joke. That's all I have to say about this place. Granted, I do take into account the business of things but the offer they did was a joke. I had brought in a Tag Carrera Calibre 6 automatic watch. Granted I know it's not a Rolex or Omega but the watch retails for 2800-3350 depending on where you're shopping around. I wanted to put that as collateral for a loan to cover back bills. The gentleman offered to only lend me $100. I scoughed as I wasn't in a desperate position to do such a thing. I just figured if I can 1300-1500 loan on the watch, it would be worth the trouble but man I said nah. I just feel bad for those who aren't as fortunate and would have to succomb to the pressure. I went in with 4 items to sell. Said they would only give 15 dollars for all of them. Didn't even bother to appraise other items only 1 thing. Claim they won't make money off it. I know my items were worth more than that. I was able to sell 1 item for more than 15 total they offered only a few days later. I wouldnt recommend going there to sell. read more

This store is too small for the inventory it houses, people are pawning, purchasing, check cashing,and doing everything else in a small uncomfortable space. I pawned an item that was less than 2 weeks old; I had to haggle to get the worth of my item, and when I picked it up I could see where it had not been taken care of. The staff I encountered would be best discribed as needing customer service training. I would only reccomend this pawnshop to the desperate and hard pressed. read more

So I recently had some property stolen from my house. I obviously was furious and angry at the situation. I thought there was no way I was going to get my property back. I started checking Craigs list, ebay and pawnshops for my property. A week later my stolen items appeared on the website of Lou's. I immediately went to the Pawn shop and they took the items down from the website. I came back on Monday and retrieved my items. A few items were already sold by the pawn shop but the owner gave me the money for what they were sold for. I still was angry and left pissed off. This is where it gets interesting. I left a bad review on yelp for the shop. A few days later I get a phone call from the owner. He was obviously frustrated over the poor review. He took the time to explain their process to me and how he runs his business. He assured me that if they knew it was stolen they would have never accepted it. He patiently explained that he works with the city, county and state on Pawn shop laws and really cares about how his industry works. That meant a lot to me that he took the time to call me. He could have just ignored and moved on but he obviously cares about his reputation and the people he comes in to contact through his business. I have since come to realize I am more frustrated about being burgalarized and the violation then I am at Lou's. They were reasonable and accommodating. read more

Lousy staff, I have bought two things here that broke or were defective, and if your selling an tine they will give you offers that are just insulting, I brought in a silver plate and was asking for 150 and he says it's selling on eBay for 20 dollars, so I grabber by stuff to leave and when I got to the door he yelled "alright alright I'll give you the 150". WORST SERVICE EVER! Today I only went because of the alleged positive reviews. I went to sell a DVD Player. Once I got in there the worker asked me to move to three different counters in five minutes. Then went and picked up a guitar, went in another room leaving me waiting for a good ten minutes. EVERYONE was so occupied with finding another customers guitar, who had threatened to call the police if it wasn't found. When he came back over he Didn't even look at the DVD player, he said "Five dollars." and walked away. So I left. Very Unprofessional considering there were three other workers there. He purposely brushed me off. I felt insulted by the service and the offer. I was selling a Sony DVD player in mint condition, only a year old and that was the offer. Yet a used non brand name DVD player cost more than five dollars. Trying to get over people. The worst is I called earlier and was told yes they purchased DVD Players. Never told me they buy them for five dollars because I wouldn't of went there. That alone proves this was spiteful! read more

My, "pawn shop" story in a nutshell.... So, I'm totally bummed out because my family was in an unexpected financial bind. Normally, I wouldn't have to go to any extreme to have to pawn anything, but I guess every dog has its day. I took my item in for a loan and the staff was very helpful, (this was my first -ever- pawn shop experience) informative, and polite. Walking through the doors , you could imagine the experiences, and stories behind each item, of its times and travels to have made it into "Lou's". So I walk out of the store satisfied and a bit more able to "keep the lights on" at home. Long story-short, I fell upon another, this time tragic hardship. A completely unexpected happening that would prevent me from being able to return to pick up the item that I obtained the loan for. I wasn't able to obtain my ticket to relay the items id#, and I wouldn't be able to pay them a penny, as I was completely immobile and out of work for the next 12 weeks with no income! I had to call them and see what I could do to prevent the loss of this item. As I stated before, the people were very helpful while I was there in the store , but I never knew what to expect going into this phone call with no item id# or any info. Well, I was just as pleased with the service that they were able to offer me over the phone. I explained to Charlene (I hope I spelled your name right!) the manager anyway, my case and she was very helpful and supportive. These people have obviously helped a lot of people through the years, as you can tell from the relationships they share with the customers that come through the doors. With this type of service they will continue to attract these trusting- friendly customer relationships. I want to say thank you very much and I will always recommend your services at Lou's. I forgot to mention that when I took my son in the store that he was so amazed that we spent like an hr just looking at things ! That place is great! I am T . I am always offered a fair price, never had to haggle to get a better deal because they already gave me the best one. Look at other reviews regarding severely underbidding the value of items. This business is preying upon the community. I had stopped in and was offered $25 for an item that retails at $400!! Yes, I understand how they resell at less than retail. HOWEVER, I was shown an eBay sale for $150. The item I was offering was selling on amazon for an average of $250!! How easy is it to set filters on eBay to be more advantageous to try to justify your insulting offer? Hmmmm. Even if they were only able to sell for $150, offering $25...that's a 600% markup!! The guy behind the counter went to look it up and told me it was selling on eBay for $150 and offered me $25 (so he can make $125 on my back) even though I had checked it out and knew it was selling for almost double that online. Do not do business with these people. The knowingly buy stolen goods from junkies. Then when you go in and try to get so info from them they act like you are the criminal. My stepson was robbing from us and we told them this. We asked them to stop buying from him or to call us when he came in with our things. They said no problem. But they kept buying from him knowing the stuff he brought in was stolen. I went in one time and just asked them to print out what he had brought in. They started valuing me names. Lou himself cursed at me and told me to get out. They'll treat you good if you're on drugs but won't help out good decent people. THE WORST EXPERIENCE I ENCOUNTERED IN A LONG TIME!!! I called first and described what I had to sell the lady said "Yes its worth taking a look at" I arrive and explained that I spoke with a staff member and I was told that my items are worth looking at as I was putting them on the table the male worker was saying "nope wont take that nope not this either". So i continued on with my other items I had an authentic Tiffany & Co sunglasses with original case and certificate only worn for 2 months excellent condition, used Nikon D60 with a Nikon wide angle lense and never used flash triggers and I also had a 14 Karat yellow gold bracelet. Now I expected to walk out with at the least $250 being as tho everything was used except the flash triggers (even tho my glasses alone cost me that amount smh) but i was in a jam had to do what i had to do however the worker LOW BALLED THE HECK OUT MY ITEMS talking about "I will give you $70 for everything" I quickly packed up my items and said never again smh.
