The form asks you to consent to sharing your "protected" health info with their "business associates" without explaining the details as HIPPA requires. The form does say "refer to our notice before signing the consent", but I saw no notice. The receptionist repeatedly said I would have to sign one wherever I went ... in my experience patients are allowed to limit what is shared, without being refused service. She said they likely wouldn't treat me if I didn't sign it, but she could ask. I felt pressured and unwelcome. So I left with the forms. Others may have a better experience.

I saw Dr. Hong for the first time today to replace a broken crown. I had trouble finding a Dr in…read morenetwork in our second home in Phoenix at first and was able to get an appointment the next day here after several unsuccessful attempts with other offices. The office called and asked if I wanted to come earlier first thing in the AM. When I arrived, I was seen within 5 minutes. The administrative staff where all very friendly and courteous. The dental assistant. Dianna did all the normal background information personally in the exam room, rather then having me fill it out myself in the waiting room. For me this was a nice personal touch. All of their equipment is state of the art in the office and better than any of my previous dentists. They took care of placing a temporary crown meticulously. They are rushing my permanent crown so that it is in place before we leave for a vacation trip next week. The admin team came back to the treatment room to go over my benefits and what I had to pay out of pocket. Again, another nice personal touch. The copay ended up being less than I paid for my original crown. Dr. Hong is very young, but I found her to really nice and highly competent. I take extreme issue with some of the negative reviews about her that I read before my appointment. I normally do not do reviews but after my personal experience with her and the rest of the Dentists of AJ team, I had to right this very glowing review because my experience was totally opposite of the negative reviews I read and I wanted to set the record straight with my own review based on my personal experience. I have found my dentist for my home away from home with the Dentists of AJ. My former dentist's office's admin team that he was in before he retired was incompetent. That is why he retired and left and why I stopped going there too. So, I know what an incompetent administrative staff looks like. This office is not that. They are one of the most pleasant and competent front office staff's I have experienced in a very long time.

That first impression honestly made me want to move forward with them. Scheduling was smooth, and they were generally good about getting me in around my appointment time during the earlier visits. However, things started to fall apart when it came to pricing transparency. I went in for permanent implants (I already have existing dentures), and after my initial consultation, I was quoted around $51,000, which was nearly $20,000 higher than other places I had visited. Because of that, I decided not to move forward at first. Afterward, I received multiple calls and texts from their office, and we eventually negotiated a price. We verbally agreed, and they confirmed via text to a flat $32,000, and this included anesthesia. That number was in line with other quotes I had received, so I felt comfortable moving forward and scheduled a follow-up appointment to finalize everything, sign the contract, and make a payment. This is where my experience took a turn. I waited about 20 minutes past my appointment time, and while they did eventually acknowledge the delay, it wasn't until I had already been waiting for a while. During the contract process, they increased the anesthesia cost by an additional $3,500, even though anesthesia had already been included in the agreed-upon $32,000 total. After some back-and-forth, I reluctantly agreed to a revised total of $35,500 just to move things forward. Then things became even more concerning. The billing assistant left the room multiple times and came back with yet another change, an additional $2,500 for a zirconia upgrade. This was especially frustrating because zirconia was the only option we had discussed from the beginning and was part of the original plan. It appeared to have been removed from the revised contract, only to be added back in as an upcharge. At that point, the total had climbed about $6,000 above what we had already agreed upon verbally and via text. That lack of consistency and transparency didn't sit right with me, and I ultimately decided to walk away without moving forward. Overall, the staff was kind and the office made a great first impression, but the repeated pricing changes and lack of clear, consistent communication during the contracting process were too concerning for me to ignore.

I'd like to clarify a few key points, as the office staff's response contained several inaccuracies: 1. My husband did not request a narcotic pain medication. He asked for a stronger antibiotic due to the severity of his symptoms. He only inquired about pain relief if the doctor was unwilling to prescribe a more effective antibiotic. At no point did he seek a narcotic, or a "Strong Pain Medication". 2. The $1,200 invoice already factored in our dental insurance coverage. My husband presented his insurance card at the time of the visit and asked if his benefits had been verified. He was told it would take 30 days to receive that information -- a statement that is simply not accurate. To assume my husband was a "Cash Patient" was incredibly inaccurate and only shows the lack of professionalism with this office staff. After reading more Google reviews, I've come to realize that many patients have had similar experiences. I truly wish I had done more research before sending my husband to Affinity Dental. It's incredibly frustrating and disappointing to be treated with such a lack of empathy -- especially when you're in severe pain and depending on a healthcare professional for help. Earlier today, Dr. Harker contacted my husband via my cell my phone number. I responded politely and explained that there was nothing further to discuss. He seemed confused by how the situation escalated, but it's clear his sudden concern is a reaction to the review I posted -- not a sign of genuine care. His lack of empathy was already apparent during and after my husbands visit, when he dismissed my husband without offering any real support. A stronger antibiotic at that time could very well have prevented the infection from spreading and causing such intense pain. Unfortunately, my husband's condition has since worsened. The infection has spread across the entire left side of his face, with significant swelling near his eye and a large lump at the site of the infected tooth. Thankfully, he has an appointment today with our previous family dentist. I reached out to our insurance agent, who was incredibly helpful in updating our dental coverage so we can continue care with a provider we trust. For that, I'm deeply grateful. I truly hope others are able to find compassionate, professional dental care -- because everyone deserves peace of mind when it comes to their health. I strongly encourage anyone considering Affinity Dental in Queen Creek to read the reviews on Google and Yelp. There is a clear and concerning pattern of unprofessional behavior and a lack of accountability in how they treat their patients. Following the posting of our review about our experience with Affinity Dental and Dr. Harker, we received more than ten back-to-back phone calls from Dr. Harker -- despite clearly stating that we did not wish to engage further. This level of contact is both inappropriate and distressing. The tone of his voicemails and overall demeanor were equally unprofessional and only served to reinforce our concerns.
