Me and two others signed up for Petch's self rescue course and learned some invaluable technical skills. We covered freeing yourself from the belay, hauling/pulley systems, ascending, and rappelling with a second. Petch was an excellent instructor; he demoed what we would learn, broke things down step by step, let us try with his direct supervision, and then had us supervise Each other while he watched over. Really great way to cement concepts, practice certain knots over and over, and learn by teaching each other. Highly recommend taking this course with Petch. read more

My wife and I are both experienced climbers but we decided to hire a guide because we were new to the Lover's Leap big wall and wanted to climb outside of our comfort zone (both good reasons to hire a local). Petch, the owner and head guide gave us a fantastic experience! We were able to choose the routes we wanted to do and the order we wanted to do them. The whole experience was perfect. Petch is super competent and fun to climb with. It was especially fun to "simul-climb" so near my wife while he belayed us both at the same time. Petch took me to a 4 pitches climbing on Hogwild. He chose the perfect route with a lot of shades, amazing views, and a great and easy slap to start with! I had a lot of questions at first, but Petch was very patient and experienced, and made me feel very safe and relaxed. He knew everything about this area because he first accented most of the classic routes here. During this COVID-19 situation, Petch was also very careful about taking my temperature before climbing, wearing mask all the time when we were belaying together or when he's teaching. He was super strong, and his technical skills were top notch and I always felt completely confident with gear placement, anchors, and belays. Lovers Leap is an awesome rock climbing area near South Lake Tahoe, just 2.5 hr from the Bay Area. It's got lots of really fun moderate multi-pitch climbs. Closest to the Bay Area, it is the best. Petch from Lovers Leap Guides gave the two of us a full day of great climbing up three multi-pitch routes. He was very knowledgeable of the routes, fun, safe and attentive. We came to Tahoe for a week vacation and rock climbing was #1 on the priority list. There were three of us climbing and we really wanted to try multipitch climbing since it was something we hadn't done before... So glad we did! It was really awesome! The views from the top were incredible. Petch was very efficient in time management and made the most of our day which we appreciated. We got in 7 pitches in a day... That has never happened in our past climbs. He made us all feel so comfortable and we all had such a good time! I would recommend him to anyone wanting to climb in South Lake Tahoe... By far he is the BEST!!!!!!! There is no doubt that climbing with Petch at Lover's Leap is the highlight of our trip and something we will never forget. Long overdue review for sure but love climbing with Petch and Lovers Leap Guides. My fiance and I have hired Petch as a climbing guide twice and he is awesome. We felt completely safe despite climbing all the way to the top of lovers leap (3 pitch climb) which is the longest climb either of us have ever done. He will tailor the day to what you want to achieve (ie. learn how to trad climb and set protection or simply climb your brains out). You decide the agenda for the day's activities and he is very flexible. The number of climbs you have time for will depend on how busy the routes are. My suggestion is to go on a weekday as the weekends are crowded and you end up having to wait at the bottom for other people. And start EARLY! It is also lovely to stay and camp there as the sunrise on the rock face is gorgeous. If you have never done multi-pitch climbing, Lovers Leap is great for that and we would never do it without Petch as our guide. read more
