I had a good experience renting here. They're kind of a no-frills operation, but that's to be expected considering this isn't a prime diving destination. We got stuck in traffic on our way back to them, and the employee agreed to stay at the shop for a few minutes past closing so we could return our gear, which we really appreciated. Their rental wetsuits are warm enough for summer dives down to about 40 feet. Below 40, there's a pretty big thermocline and you may want something warmer. They only had nitrox at 32%. Given that it's a high altitude dive, I would have preferred 36%, but that's probably my only complaint. Overall, I'd come back here if I ever dive Tahoe again! read more

We rented some gear from Tahoe Dive Center while visiting from Oahu. When we pulled up we didn't realize they closed at 4:30 (we got there at 4:35), but the owner Chris was super accommodating and actually came back to help us out. He patiently waited while we tried on some gear to buy, and got our purchases and the rental gear all processed quickly and efficiently. He was also really helpful when we had questions about high altitude diving and local dive sites. Returning the gear was easy too, and the employee working the next day was also super friendly and helpful. Overall we had a great experience with the shop, and will continue to patronize them when we come back to the area. read more

9/17/2018: I special-ordered an Aqua Lung Visage scuba/snorkel mask from Military Retiree, Shannon; however, about an hour after ordering the mask I needed, Shannon sadly calls me informing me the mask was discontinued! WOT~WHY???? Auuurrgghhh~I thought my searching ended at Tahoe Dive Center . . . NOT. Eyes are rolling, again and that Starbuck's peppermint coffee is kicking in the roaring, nervous Chihuahua in me-didn't help, either! I began gently bashing my forehead onto my truck's steering wheel throwing a hissy-fit! I'm so glad I went to Tahoe Dive Center for a PADI Open Water Diver certification. These guys are great. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The shop was flexible when scheduling our dives, which allowed me to get certified in time for an upcoming vacation. Steve is an amazing instructor. His level of diving experience is off the charts, and he's full of helpful tips and anecdotes to make the learning process fun and memorable. Stumbled upon the shop looking for an Advanced Open Water course with a very limited time window. They happened to have one scheduled when I was looking to go, and the rest went swimmingly. They bent over backwards to get me in the water, and all the while were chill and friendly to chat with. I learned a lot in the course, and a lot not within the course materials. This shop may be quite a ways from home for me, but they'll have my business again, highly recommended. read more

This Dive Shop & Matt are Awesome! He took a lot of time to get me fitted in a wet suit & gear. Boat and dives were great, especially diving the wall. I was staying at 1200' above the lake. Matt made sure I stayed at lake level elevation for 5 hours, making sure I was safe to head out! However I think he still owes me a beer. Master Diver "3000" Steve was also awesome. I would rather not post one star. But it doesnt give me the option. I Purchased private dive lessons in the amount of $625. I was told I could schedule them whenever I wanted. It became impossible to get a hold of anyone to ask about scheduling and actually schedule. MULTIPLE emails and messages. I finally just tried saying well if you cant schedule me I want a refund. I was told that new owners bought the business in July and that my pre paid dive lessons were not available for refund or use! I was told by the new owner that the most he could do is give me a discount on lessons and that I could contact the previous owner? Of course there was no response from him. I have disputed with my bank now. Absolutley ridiculous and unprofessional. Maybe the dive lessons are good? I dont know. But do not pre pay for ANYTHING! Thank you for taking $625, and not giving me services or a refund. We call that stealing. read more

I don't really have much experience with these folks but I stopped in here on a lark while in Carson City. Casey (maybe the wrong spelling!) was here and he is just a fantastic guy. Super enthusiastic, knows the local diving (Lake Tahoe) scene, and clearly loves being associated with the store and it's new owner. The shop is fairly well stocked, has good facilities for work on regulators, they can handle equipment needs and everything was neat and tidy which speaks well to the care they would put into equipment, although I don't have personal experience with that. I was very happy to find this place and I look forward to doing some Tahoe dives with them! read more

This is an excellent shop. Rental was quick and easy and the shop is really nice. Matt and Shawn gave excellent dive briefings and although they were fun and informative safety was also a major priority which I appreciate. They were awesome with the less experienced divers and extremely patient. I would definitely recommend this shop for tours or classes. I will be returning in the future to dive with them. read more

Had a great scuba diving day with Matt M. at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe. As with every dive instructor, I care most about rigorous safety practices. I appreciated the questions, requirements, safety checks, and post-dive advice on surface interval time, prior to my return drive across up-and-down elevations to the SF Bay Area. The weather and lake conditions were perfect for my son who was wearing a 7mm wet suit (...no gloves or hood needed today). Terrific visibility with lots of aquatic life! read more

I loved this dive shop, their dive masters really go above and beyond to make sure everyone is safe and happy. When I booked the dive Matt, the owner, told me that his home was close to my hotel and offered to pick me up in the morning, send me all details about the dives and brought a lot of extra gear in case I needed. The dive was very relaxing. This was my first time diving in tahoe but next times but next times I come I will surely dive with those guys again. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Tahoe Dive Center or Chuck Weber. I was coming in from out of town. With late notice Chuck found me a dive master to guide me through my dry suit cert. He mailed me my course work, and took care of everything in a very timely and professional way. Their service made we wish I lived up there just to be able to keep working with them for all my dives. Shop is extremely clean and well put together with a lot of options for extra gear and accessories which was nice to have as an option while traveling. Definitely definitely use Tahoe Dive Center for any diving while up in Tahoe. read more

This was a horrible experience all around from the minute I walked into the shop, until 5 minutes later when the dives were cancelled and I was heading out, very upset after being told I "have too many problems to dive with him". Matt will not accommodate any disability or request to make you more comfortable while diving, so this is an able-bodied only shop. I have back problems, but of course try to not let that stop me from doing the things I enjoy, and so I have found ways to make myself not in pain after diving. This includes using a weight belt instead of putting weights in my BCD - a very simple request, and would take 0 effort for Matt to accommodate my request (he even said they have weight belts, of course). But instead he proceeded to mansplain to me that actually diving with weights in the BCD is better for my back so he wouldn't give me a weight belt (because obviously Matt knows better what it's like to dive with my body). He then proceeded to tell me it sounded like "I had too many problems to dive with him" (I had also asked if they had shorty tanks, which would not be necessary but is easier for me if they have since I'm smaller and good on air so don't ever use a whole tank, which again is a common question). Literally I had just asked for a weight belt! The most simple piece of diving equipment. But that wouldn't work for Matt! On top of this, while I was trying on my wetsuit Matt had gone outside and scolded my family for parking in the spot out front the shop, asking them if they were divers since only divers can park there (they responded by saying the diver was currently inside his shop...). He was also telling my dad that I would have to meet them at the dive site one hour away when he told me on the phone the day prior that I could meet him at the shop and drive with him (I don't have a car, so needed to be dropped off at the shop - again a very reasonable request). So within 5 minutes of walking into the shop the dives were cancelled and I was getting a refund. Matt was entirely unprofessional, unaccommodating, and just plain mean. If you're a dive master and can't be bothered to take the time to make sure your divers are comfortable, then you should not be in this business. I have dove with dozens of dive masters who go out of their way to make sure their divers have a great experience, and who accommodate all sorts of unreasonable requests (but let's be straight - a weight belt is not an unreasonable request). I wouldn't spend your money here, and if there are no other dive shops in this area, find another activity. The hikes in Tahoe are amazing, rent a boat and go swim on the lake, hang by the beach, but seriously do anything but dive with this man. read more

Planning a Lake Tahoe vacation (9/27/2020-10/3/2020), we reached out to Matt at Tahoe Dive Center well ahead of the trip. He arranged our altitude certification with Steve Lind and a boat dive. When we arrived in Tahoe, the shop was clean and the staff friendly. We were provided tanks and weights for our Sand Harbor dives. The boat dive was exceptional, we loaded up at the shop and were shuttled to the boat dock, for a short trip to dive site #1 Whiskey Cove, #2 Emerald Bay - barges & #3 Emerald Bay circumnavigate Fannett island tea house. We left at 9am and returned by 3pm. Matt is building his business and doing it right. I am looking forward to returning in the future and diving more incredible sites that Tahoe has to offer. Interesting. There were several strongly negative reviews of this place, both at the previous and current location, but they seem to have been scrubbed clean. I always thought Yelp left reviews intact. I wonder how Chuck gamed the system this time. Short version - stay away. I've met very few business owners so intent on taking advantage of his customers while working so hard to avoid doing what he said he would do. This place cost me many wasted months, and essentially confiscated about $600 of prepaid instructional fees. I finally gave up trying to get him to provide the training that was promised. In previous reviews, he has responded, and I provided the additional information showing him to be a con artist. Short version - stay away. You might be happy buying something you need for a last-minute dive, but I do not recommend counting on the owner to carry through with his commitments. His contract instructors are good, they have to report through to Chuck, and that's where it all goes horribly wrong. The change of schedule in 2014 was because Chuck did not tell us until the first day of classroom training that we all needed signed doctor's reports. That significant oversight meant there was insufficient time to do the training before the end of warm weather. You might think a qualified dive shop owner would mention the need for a doctor's exam well before the day instruction was scheduled to begin. After we started in 2015, and my grandson and lady friend had to pause due to hypothermia, I returned as we had discussed to schedule their continuation. I had been into Chuck's shop many times to reschedule. He kept forgetting his commitments claiming I was supposed to call to reconfirm. Nope, he just forgot. The last time I went in, which was discussed prior to our two week trip away, was to reschedule the two hypothermic students. Apparently Chuck forgot I would be coming in after our two week vacation, and my very calm efforts to rebook them were met with "we're booked", "I'll have to pay an extra instructor", "why didn't the boy finish his dives the next day?" (because the instructor didn't want to go out of sequence). A good business person solves problems, not throw up an endless barrage of objections. Every delay was due to Chuck either forgetting dates he set, or failing to tell us we needed signed medical certs. I would be shocked if anyone who works for Chuck would speak out publicly against him. What SEVERAL of them have said to me I n private entirely supports the general view of his own nprofessional business practices. Update 9/7/16 Chuck's cut and pasted reply is an utter fabrication, and an effort to hide his unprofessional behavior, and thievery. I'm tagging this update as an edit onto a previous reply I made to him. Notice he doesn't mention failing to tell us we would need signed doctors releases until it was too late, costing us a year of delay. I'm a flight instructor. I make sure my student knows what to bring to his first lesson long before the day of the lesson. Chuck is a corrupt business person. The drive to Reno is well worth it to avoid being taken in by him. read more

I went in for 3 snorkels and scuba masks. Came out half an hour later with everything I needed. The employee manning the shop was excellent (forgot his name), very friendly, and made sure we got everything we needed. I came back an hour later because I needed another scuba mask and snorkel, and though the shop was packed, the same employee got me out in less than 15 minutes. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for scuba equipment. The shop was clean and organized. Closest dive shop to the lake. read more
