Nothing complicated, nothing fancy just really good food done right. The steak fingers were exactly what you want! Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and perfect with the fries. Good food, but outstanding service. I had a 36-ouce porterhouse with a unique style of seasoning. Lowake apparently seasons its steaks AFTER cooking, rather than before. This way, the seasoning doesn't drip into the fire. My steak was good -- medium rare and well-seasoned. The staff, however, was the real highlight here. Wonderful service! Restaurant was cute and the tables were well separated. The food was good. Good portions as well. I think I would've added a little more seasoning but that's just me. We had ribeye steak, fried catfish and chicken fried steak meals. my husband and I grazed on all three. Our sides consisted of one trip to the salad bar, green beans, macaroni and cheese, baked potato, and we ordered an onion ring appetizer. Yes, I did try the jalapeño ranch and it was good. However, I prefer the good old-fashioned ranch... I wasn't shocked to see how much the steak prices were considering how much a steak is at the grocery store. My daughter and her family use to live in the area and when I would visit we would come here at least one's while I was in. It has been awhile but I was working in the area and it's one, if not the only, place open on Sunday. What I remember the most is service and KC steaks are great. I was not disappointed. In fact, other than needing a little more salt, I think the steak was better. It was cooked perfect so juicy and omg the portion size. I can eat on this the rest of the week. I sit at the bar because I know it can get busy and I hate taking up a table because I like to take my time. The young lady working behind the bar was also working the floor. She was still fabulous. Her Name was Kelsey and good at her job for sure. The only complaint is the salad bar. It's very skimpy with limited choices so it needs to look appealing and it was a wreck. Saw this place on Bucket List so we wanted to try it out. We ordered a Ribeye steak and what we got was not a Ribeye like we were used to it was more like a sirloin. Tuff and not very good. When we went to the salad bar there was a fly in the ranch dressing. I told the owner and they just dipped the fly out. I don't think that's very sanitary. So, me, Glenda, and Susan next door did the shopping thing in Ballinger. I had my heart set on Beefmasters steakhouse, but I got outvoted. Glenda and Susan wanted Lowake. We grabbed a table and ordered KC for three. Lots of meat! The salad bar Is still good and I LOVE the jalapeño ranch dressing. We pigged out and still had a ton of meat left over. Let me tell you how good the onion rings, baked potato, salad bar, rolls and green beans were. They were delicious, especially the rolls and rings! But this is a steakhouse and the Porterhouse steak my wife and I shared Saturday afternoon 4/12 was terrible. Perhaps it was old and freezer burned, I don't know. But it was the driest, most un-evenly cooked steak. They tried sprinkling garlic on top of it, but it was still bad. It had A LOT of gristle in it to boot. Now our friends rib eye was a decent steak, but after my experience I do not recommend. read more

Lowake Steak House has been serving steaks since 1951. They boast themselves as the best steak you'll ever eat. While they have a decent steak, it is no where close to being the best. The steaks are tender and cooked well; however lack any seasoning. They are pan seared so no grill marks or flavoring from being cooked on a grill. Even a flavorful seasoned butter melted on top would add a great bit of flavor, unfortunately, there wasn't any of that either. The baked potatoes were overcooked. Salad bar was self serve and mediocre. The sourdough rolls were good. We arrived at the first part of the dinner crowd and were seated by the hostess that apparently forgot to tell the assigned waitress that we were there. So several tables in our area sat for 20-30 minutes without being waited on and at this time the restaurant wasn't busy., When they finally realized we were there and waiting , some of the last tables to arrive were waited on before those of us that had been waiting the longest. Once our orders were taken, the food was quick to come out and I noticed as the restaurant got busier, the kitchen continued to be fast on getting food out. Overall, it was a decent meal, but probably would make the drive back out to the restaurant, mostly due to the lack of flavor of the steak, especially for a $40 steak. The steak dinner was mediocre at best. The quality of the steak is on point, so with the appropriate flavor, it could be one of the best steaks with a little effort. The restaurant was large, spacious and had cute decorations around, but could be loud if the restaurant is completely full. It's not what I would call an intimate experience. We had a reservation for 12 at noon today for a birthday. Everything was set up when we got there, and even though we had 14 people, they were great. They put the cake in the back for us & even sang Happy Birthday! The service was awesome (I wish I had gotten our servers name) our sever was really good and so sweet. We went here for the first time a couple weeks ago. We had been told the steaks were absolutely amazing and they are. The servers were very nice and helpful and kept our drinks filled despite the restaurant being really busy. The salad bar was standard salad bar fair, but we didn't go there for a salad. We ordered KC for one and had enough meat for both of us and enough for my husband's lunch the next day. It's nothing fancy as far as the interior of the restaurant. I'm not one to complain but worst experience of my entire life, got my steak and it tasted like the chef didn't have a timer on it, it was absolutely terrible. it was not good. and the gravy was absolutely horrendous, if you smelt it, it would almost make you not want to eat, we told the server and she was like let me get my manager, we spoke with her and she said she would help us by taking a few drinks and stuff off even tho we barley took a bite, overall the experience was terrible and made me feel different about this place because it usually is a good experience. read more

Got the KC for one to split with wife. The steak had good flavor and was cooked perfect, however there was so much fat and gristle that almost a third of the meat was not eatable. I've been looking for a great chicken fried steak and I found it here. That was the CFS I've dead in years and highly recommend it. My wife had the grilled chicken, she said it was full a flavor, very well seasoned. We will be back, need to try their filet and the burger. Service was good also, not sure what the one reviewer was talking about when they said the tables were too small, our table was a normal size for restaurants. My husband and I both had tea, split the medium house steak with salad and baked potato. I added a side set up for me of baked potato and salad. Also had the pick two appetizer with cheese sticks and bacon wrapped poppers. I was disappointed in the salads because it was not green lettuce ( the core part) however the ranch was good. Appetizer was basic bagged cheese sticks. Poppers were small but good. Not worth $11 in my mind.. The steak was huge, cooked perfect as ordered and great flavor! Stopped in late afternoon on a Friday. We had the chicken fried steak. The tenderest and crispiest I've had in a long while. Mashed potatoes were good with skins I like it that way more flavor. Ordered KC for 4 half medium and a couple pieces extra well done. None of the steak was done. The medium was closer to rare than medium. The well done steak was still bloody the 1st 2xs they brought it out. I sent it back 3 times and still never got it done. Gave up on that and just let someone else eat it I was already grossed out by it. Never got offered any refills on our drinks, Salad bar was sub par and skimpy at best. Would not recommend. This was my 1st and definitely my last visit here. Brought everything to the attn of the manager and he just made excuses. I found him to be highly unprofessional and just down right rude.
