36-ounce porterhouse when I was less than halfway to finishing it.
    Evan R.

Good food, but outstanding service. I had a 36-ouce porterhouse with a unique style of seasoning. Lowake apparently seasons its steaks AFTER cooking, rather than before. This way, the seasoning doesn't drip into the fire. My steak was good -- medium rare and well-seasoned. The staff, however, was the real highlight here. Every staff member was very friendly and very helpful. I'd be happy to go back.

Wonderful service! Restaurant was cute and the tables were well separated. The food was good. Good portions as well. I think I would've added a little more seasoning but that's just me. We had ribeye steak, fried catfish and chicken fried steak meals. my husband and I grazed on all three. Our sides consisted of one trip to the salad bar, green beans, macaroni and cheese, baked potato, and we ordered an onion ring appetizer. Yes, I did try the jalapeño ranch and it was good. However, I prefer the good old-fashioned ranch... I wasn't shocked to see how much the steak prices were considering how much a steak is at the grocery store. It was a Happy Birthday dinner for my Husband and we really enjoyed it. Again service was awesome.

    Huge steak portion.

My daughter and her family use to live in the area and when I would visit we would come here at least one's while I was in. It has been awhile but I was working in the area and it's one, if not the only, place open on Sunday. What I remember the most is service and KC steaks are great. I was not disappointed. In fact, other than needing a little more salt, I think the steak was better. It was cooked perfect so juicy and omg the portion size. I can eat on this the rest of the week. I sit at the bar because I know it can get busy and I hate taking up a table because I like to take my time. The young lady working behind the bar was also working the floor. She was still fabulous. Her Name was Kelsey and good at her job for sure. The only complaint is the salad bar. It's very skimpy with limited choices so it needs to look appealing and it was a wreck. It wasn't super busy at the time either. I didn't dock a star because the jalapeño ranch made up for it.

So, me, Glenda, and Susan next door did the shopping thing in Ballinger. I had my heart set on Beefmasters steakhouse, but I got outvoted. Glenda and Susan wanted Lowake. We grabbed a table and ordered KC for three. Lots of meat! The salad bar Is still good and I LOVE the jalapeño ranch dressing. We pigged out and still had a ton of meat left over. Prices have sure gone up, but that's true everywhere. If your ever out in the middle of West Texas nowhere, Lowake is the place to eat! Chow time!

Lowake Steak House has been serving steaks since 1951. They boast themselves as the best steak you'll ever eat. While they have a decent steak, it is no where close to being the best. The steaks are tender and cooked well; however lack any seasoning. They are pan seared so no grill marks or flavoring from being cooked on a grill. Even a flavorful seasoned butter melted on top would add a great bit of flavor, unfortunately, there wasn't any of that either. The baked potatoes were overcooked. Salad bar was self serve and mediocre. The sourdough rolls were good. We arrived at the first part of the dinner crowd and were seated by the hostess that apparently forgot to tell the assigned waitress that we were there. So several tables in our area sat for 20-30 minutes without being waited on and at this time the restaurant wasn't busy., When they finally realized we were there and waiting , some of the last tables to arrive were waited on before those of us that had been waiting the longest. Once our orders were taken, the food was quick to come out and I noticed as the restaurant got busier, the kitchen continued to be fast on getting food out. Overall, it was a decent meal, but probably would make the drive back out to the restaurant, mostly due to the lack of flavor of the steak, especially for a $40 steak. The steak dinner was mediocre at best. The quality of the steak is on point, so with the appropriate flavor, it could be one of the best steaks with a little effort. The restaurant was large, spacious and had cute decorations around, but could be loud if the restaurant is completely full. It's not what I would call an intimate experience. They did have an arcade alley for kids.

The beef quality was superb--thick-cut, tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned without overpowering its natural flavor. While the edges were cooked slightly beyond medium due to the uneven cut, that's a very minor critique. The grilled asparagus was delicious, and the green chile hominy was absolutely amazing. Overall, I would give Perini Ranch Steakhouse a 98 out of 100. The food, atmosphere, and quality were exceptional, making it one of the best of the steakhouses I've experienced.

We took the onions and cucumbers off our salad due to dietary issues and that left us with lettuce, mushrooms, and dressing. Our burger was the best part. It was cooked well, and the bun was soft. The strawberry shortcake was disappointing. The fruit was stewed and the biscuits were hard with just room temp heavy cream to offset the temperature of the fruit. For ambiance, it was nothing to write home about. Very busy and very loud, but it was a Saturday evening so that was to be expected. What I didn't expect was the lack of air conditioning in July. It was over 100 degrees that day, and it was cooler outside. Unacceptable for Texas in July when you're seating tables 3' from each other. Our server was good. She was attentive, and kept our water glasses filled. We may try again once the weather cools down.

Sounds like small town Texas doesn't it? It's rare that I take the car club into an unexplored restaurant. But, there was confidence. Yelp profile? Not so much; but a recent feature on a Texas centric TV show called the Daytripper. Enough for me to take a chance on Jacoby's. Said family also has an east Austin eatery but I don't dine after five. High time I lead some cars out to Melvin, Texas. Left Bee Cave and took every curvy road I could because sports cars. Took longer to arrive than taking straight roads but we're now sitting down in the cafe. Uhhh, where are the steaks from your own private heard? Dinner menus delivered to the table. You can't stop staring at the desserts at the end of the bar. Onion rings were amazing. Don't think artful or presentation here folks; think squirt bottle of ranch. Still need more but saving for the main course. Steak was delivered and the GF cut off her personal hunk. First thoughts is to compare the dining adventure with Hilltop Cafe and Johnny Nicholas at Hilltop Cafe. If you build it they will come. I think the term "home made" is used WAY too much these days. Jacoby's nails this category. Simply prepared great steak, veggies, salad, and desserts. Staffers even protected the desserts with wrap in between servings. It was good to walk in and dine; locals dressed to a "T" because this is a special occasion restaurant for them. I bought a hat. First time in forever I'm wearing supporting carb. Great place!

FAST FACTS: * Parking - some spots right out front * Closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday * Check their Facebook page for events, specials, and more PRICING - The total was $50.65 after tax ($4.52) but before tip for an unsweetened tea ($2.79), chips and queso ($9.19), grilled chicken sandwich ($12.19), chicken fried steak ($19.49), and mint chocolate chip ice cream cake ($6.99). I think the pricing is VERY reasonable for the food quality and portion size. CHIPS AND QUESO (8/10) - Fantastic appetizer for the table to share for cheap! You get a mound of thick tortilla chips (or pork rinds), a skillet of green hatch queso topped with some fresh pico, and a smaller side of a thick salsa. I'd order this again! GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH (9/10) - Massive sandwich with a huge pile of shoestring fries (or tots) on the side. The bun is fluffy and nicely toasted, the grilled chicken breast is seasoned well, and you get fresh spring mix, tomato, pickles, and onion piled on top with honey mustard. I'd order this again! CHICKEN FRIED STEAK (10/10) - One of the best chicken fried steaks we've had! It's a huge portion of steak (8 oz) topped with peppered gravy, two sides of your choice, and a roll... everything was seasoned well, fresh, and delicious! I'd order this again! MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM CAKE (9/10) - The desserts vary but this ice cream cake was fantastic! The level of mint was perfect and it was a good size piece to share at the end of an already very filling meal. I'd order this again! Honestly, there was nothing I didn't enjoy at Silver Spur! Obviously I'm not a local (you can tell it's the type of place where everyone in town hangs out) and just happened to stumble across it while traveling through but I will 100% stop by again when I'm in the area!
