Wow this school is good! I have had two kids go to this school over the years and I really recommend it. They go above and beyond really the teacher my son has for kindergarten is the best she is so sweet caring and helpful I hope my younger son gets her lol I really really recommend this school read more

The staff and teachers are wonderful and willing to go the extra mile to support homeschoolers (especially new ones, like us). They have great options for onsite classes, a vibrant PTSA, and all the community you hope for in a brick and mortar school. Port Gardner has helped me gain confidence, both in my choice to homeschool, and in teaching itself.

Rev Rachel is so bright, her sermons always captivating and she places the Gospel readings in the context of the times in which they were written. She is a Social Justice Warriorette! Full of life and love, I was immediately sold. Episcopalians were the first Christians to ordain Native Americans, and in the mid 1900's ordained a man who had not even been welcomed as a "citizen." My kids were Christianed in the early 80's by a woman and for my second kid she was hugely pregnant. And then of course, gays were welcomed into the fold. There are Episcopal Churches that are Very Conservative and then there's Trinity. Open hearted, open minded and I'm so happy I've found it!

After lots of research last year we decided to send our daughter to this school. Previously she had…read morebeen diagnosed as having a learning disability to which we showed the principle and educators at the school the paperwork just to make they would be able to accommodate her. She has now been there for a full year and they have not been able to accommodate her as they promised they would be able to. The last meeting we had the principle said "we produce honors students here" after which she said our daughter might want to get evaluated. Our daughter feels left out and unwelcome at this school. It's true that the principle makes the place sounds great, but that is her job too. As a parent if you try and give feedback she will just say "oh we are already doing those things" but no proof. Furthermore, the faith teachings are not being practiced. We had been contemplating whether or not to send her back next year however we have made our decision not to due to the lack of response from the principle. I've emailed and called her several times regarding our daughters future at the school and what we would like to see and we have yet to hear a response.

If I could change one thing, it would have to be the pick up situation. Maybe have different pick up times due to the extremely long lines. I've found a way around this though. I just arrive an hour early and nap in the parking lot until the bell wakes me.

I…read morewas a hyperactive kid who struggled with focus regardless of my environment, yet I felt I was treated unfairly at the time. Deep down I knew this was probably a result of my actions and/or weaknesses, and overall I knew I loved and respected the staff and environment of the place, however as the years went on I was tempted to be bitter (especially after feeling so well received in future public schools). Fast forwarding a decade had brought me more experiences and perspective, allowing me to more thoroughly appreciate what Northshore was doing in my life at the time. They held a high standard in a way that balanced love and firmness. I think we were both growing and learning at that time, and I cannot deny that I was shown love, guidance, an example of excellence, etc. Super important things to a growing kid. Fast forward another decade, I was able to return to Northshore and visit with my old principal and some of the teachers I had back then. An awesome experience to see them as fellow adults, see their personal/professional growth and the success of their academics, school campus, etc. Even got to have a chat with one of my childhood heroes Marc Marion. Marc: well done, good and faithful servant! Coming full circle, I now have a kindergartener at Northshore. We weighed many options during our research, and we felt the overall benefits far outweighed the sacrifices. Almost a year into school, I can confidently say we made the right decision. Every school and every person has issues, quirks, etc., yet the level of excellence in all areas has surpassed our expectations. I could list all the positives I've seen, but I think Northshore does a well enough job of marketing themselves, so I'll leave it at this: I couldn't ask for a better place to entrust a significant portion of my son's daily mental/physical/spiritual growth. The boss babe, Jen, she listened and took action anytime it was needed and did her best to make your requests made- EVEN THROUGH the hardest times of the pandemic. I was so sad to pull my son out of after only being there for 6 months because I REALLY loved how they loved and cared for my son. But he started to feel unsafe and would cry and fight going. When I asked why, he would tell me the name of one teacher who just made him feel unsafe. I came to learn that anytime my son had to be around Ms. Nevi that he would do what he could to leave the immediate area. I also noticed little things that she would say or do didn't always add up. I cherish the memories we have from Starbright and was really looking forward to my second baby going there- but I couldn't continue to keep my son in a place with a teacher that he would scream in discomfort about.

Even though she has been away for two years now, she often reminisces about the delicious lunches and the fun experiences she had there. One of the things we appreciated most was the low staff turnover; as she progressed through different classes, we were always greeted by familiar faces. The amazing director, Jen, was incredibly supportive and communicative, which eased any concerns we had as parents. Each teacher we encountered was kind, patient, and truly exceptional. We always looked forward to drop-off and pick-up times because the atmosphere was so warm and inviting. The gentle parenting sessions they offered laid a strong foundation for us at home and were also reflected in the classroom. Overall, every element of the program was thoughtfully designed and incredibly beneficial. We have recommended Starbright to friends over the years, and one of them is still enrolled! If we were to have more children, we would enroll them at Starbright without hesitation. We miss it so very much!

Liz always responded to all of my emails within one business day (Usually same day), and they use an app called Brightwheel that the staff use to communicate for all things school-related. I was so apprehensive since this was my first time sending my child off to spend some time without me, but everyone was so amazing and I loved all the updates on what my kid was up to throughout the day via the app. They made sure to send me extra pictures on his first day, which was so sweet. My son has a speech delay and he came home after 2 days singing the alphabet and counting to ten. It was amazing. Their prices were competitive and availability/flexibility was unmatched. Everyone was so kind and the kids have plenty of room to play outside while also being kept safe.

They have been great…read moreto work with over the years and I feel like the teachers and directors really care about the kids. Each age group has their own classroom and multiple teachers so the kids are with peers their own age. They are very engaging with many different activities throughout the day/week/month to keep the kids happy, busy, active and always learning or doing something new. They provide quality food with a lot of variety and a good, healthy balance. There is a nice outdoor play area (partially undercover) that also gets natural shade during the hottest part of the day. Recently they started using a cool app for faculty and parents only which allows them to provide updates throughout the day - everything from what the kids are doing to what they are eating and (opt-in if you want) photos of your kids! It's nice to feel connected during the day even though we're away from our kiddos while working. They have an iPad at pickup and drop-off where you can use a QR code on your phone to check your child in or out "hands-free" which is very helpful these days. They do everything by the book from class size ratios to sunscreen authorization forms, you name it, they adhere to state and local policies. Tuition usually goes up once annually but that is typical with rising costs of everything, living wage increases and food costs in WA state. I'm so glad we found this awesome preschool when we did.
