My daughter got married at Wedgewood and our family and friends stayed at Lower Lake Ranch. Wedgewood was a wonderful venue. They were helpful, food was wonderful and the wedding experience was amazing. Lower lake lodge had terrible communication, not helpful at all and were not very nice especially after a year of Covid issues. The cabins were extremely overpriced. It is not reasonable to have a 10am check out time after a wedding. One of the cabins was used for a wedding the day before. Check in was late and the cabin was dirty. If having a wedding at Wedgewood, I would not recommend staying at Lower Lake Lodge cabins. read more

I DID get married here on July 16th and would like to take the time to describe my experience with Lower Lake Ranch. We decided to work with LLR after a pleasant first-visit in July 2010. As we arrived on-sight, another couple (who had their wedding the night before) was checking-out of the ranch and hugging/complementing the owner about how much fun they had. This was a good sign. So we went over the details, took a tour and decided that it was the perfect site for us. A few months later the poor reviews started showing up on the internet. At first I gave myself time to freak-out a little bit and reconsider my decision (who wouldn't??). But I started putting the pieces together and I saw it one of two ways: either ONE wedding party had a terrible experience (which can happen, anywhere) or a competitor was sabotaging the venue. Regardless, I did not let it bother me and after each subsequent visit, phone call and email I felt more confident about our decision. Now on to the wedding day: We booked the Willow's site for a Saturday afternoon wedding and reserved all of the lodge rooms for three nights. We showed up on Thursday evening and Vera was very friendly and welcoming. Aside from one family member who had young children and a room that wasn't quite set-up for their needs, the lodging was perfect for the weekend. The new Apache lodge is beautiful and the Lakeview lodge was transformed into our all-purpose post-party/getting-ready area. The rehearsal space (the willows patio) was perfect for our group and the owners did not pester us about sound, time, food or whatever everyone else is complaining about. The wedding was beautiful even WITH the massive thunderstorm that rolled-in at 4:30! This is why we chose the place: July weather can be fickle and the Willow's reception hall was a great alternative to the outdoor site. Multiple guests came up to me during the reception and complemented the food (Prime Rib and Salmon). All of the servers were pleasant, professional and relaxed (and yes, guests were allowed to take "seconds") The music (we did Karaoke) was sufficiently loud despite complaint's on Yelp, Yahoo and elsewhere. We felt NO pressure to leave the venue early. They were very patient with us and did not complain when we got a little rowdy during the after-party. I have heard ALL of these things from my guests, my family and my wedding party. Basically, this is what it comes down to: #1 If you want an all-inclusive experience then you need to realize that some of the little things will cost more. It is worth it and with all of the "extras" you are STILL getting a good deal compared to some of the other Colorado venues. #2 If these other reviewers are real people with real experiences then it sounds like they a) had a bridezilla on their hands, b) aren't the chilled-out relaxed Colorado types that we are all used to or c) are competitors with a chip on their shoulder Yes, the website could use a little more detail and I know they will be working on it. Yes, the construction is FINALLY finished and it's a safe venue to travel to No, they are not bossy, rude or demanding Yes, the lodging is great for out-of-town wedding party/family members who just want to relax. It has taken me over 2 years to finally review this place and I will not be giving too many details other than to please pay attention to the dates of the reviews, the fact that there have been many "filtered" reviews, and the fact that there have been many deleted reviews. The location, while very beautiful and secluded, was a little too out of the way for most of the wedding guests, and I wish that I had picked a closer mountain venue. I had to bus my guests in from a hotel on Wadsworth and 285 after I found out that the presumed cabins were not open due to construction (I was assured that they would be ready for the day). Couples beware. You will never get this very special day back, especially if it is tarnished with very unpleasant memories of very rude staff, sub-par food, and broken promises...from the owner. The owner will have this post deleted, but I hope not before you are able to read this and perhaps other reviews. I had a very positive experience coordinating a wedding here. The venue is beautiful and they so thoughtfully met every possible wedding need. They are clearly wedding pros and think of everything. They were so easy and pleasant to work with. Anything I needed help with, they fixed almost faster than I could finish my request. Im surprised by the negative comments in the reviews below, our day was amazing. I wouldn't go as far to say I was a Bridezilla, but I definitely verged. Bonnie and Vera were always so kind and accommodating I never had a reason to get upset. Even though we almost got rained out, I trusted in Vera and her teams vast experience to make our day perfect. Also mountain weddings are very expensive, but at Lower Lake I believe we had a good value. I found this venue on a random search at MSU Denver Nursing school labs last fall when looking for venues after my husband proposed. I went to check out the venue and it was everything I wanted rustic, elegant yet a western flare. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and Vera is a hoot! She also warned us about the price increases that were to happen. I was in love and before I knew it we had the date booked before they were forced by this poor economy to increase rates. I read the same bad reviews and the nasty things people said about this venue that yes slightly made me freak out but I was warned that not everything written is true. So I continued to plan my big day. They allowed easy monthly payments and because I pre-paid my gold meal plan, in the end all I had left to pay was my service, tax and fees. In all actuality I got my wedding that would have cost over 20 grand for way under that price. Even with the increases they are cheaper than a lot of the mountain resorts and a lot closer to Denver area. I spent months planning this big day and all the staff were very polite with this very OCD bride calling and emailing 4x a month for a year. Bonnie and I actually developed a close relationship and plan visiting every year on our anniversary. They helped work out issues, calmed me down and were very organized for the big day. In all actuality they were very flexible on the big day when so many other things went wrong, lol. Before I knew it, the day was upon me, I feel stupid in that I didn't just slow down and try to enjoy the day. Unfortunately we were delayed by 30 minutes due to an accident on the highway, but this was no problem with the venue, everything got moved back so that I was given the full time. The food was great (prime rib and smoked chicken breast), the reception hall looked amazing and danced the night away. They checked in on me throughout the night to make sure everything was ok and made me feel very taken care of. They showed detail and attention to everything and I even saw my guests mingling with staff and having fun. I am getting raving reviews on the food, staff and even areas that went wrong and my guests had no idea, lol. Please if I ask anything be patient, be organized and enjoy this time because it will FLY by and could miss everything you worked so hard for. Please go and check them out yourself as they are the oldest wedding ranch and got some amazing pictures. My husband and I got married at Lower Lake Ranch on July 3, 2014. In the year leading up to the wedding, we went up to the venue at least once a month to hike the land, enjoy the scenery, check out any updates to the property, and visualize our big day. We really felt a connection to LLR from the start, but that connection deepened the more time we spent on the property. Vera and Drayton were always so helpful and accommodating, making the planning process a breeze. In the days leading up to the wedding, we foraged the land for moss, rocks, pine cones and branches for our centerpieces and reception decor. It was so special for us to integrate these elements into our big day. It really enhanced our vision for a rustic chic wedding, so much so that it took our breath away when we saw it all come together. The ceremony site is beautifully nestled along the creek with epic views of Cathedral Peaks and Lion's Head above. A small waterfall in the creek provided a relaxing soundtrack to our ceremony. The mosaic brick aisle really grounds the space and provides a beautiful entry for the bride without having to use a tacky aisle runner. You really don't need a lot of flowers because the scenery is so breathtaking. My only wish for the ceremony site would be to use brown wooden chairs, instead of white plastic, and a more natural looking arbor, rather than a white one. In my opinion, they would blend seamlessly with the backdrop and add to that rustic vibe that Lower Lake Ranch inherently has. The reception site at Willows Pavilion is spectacular. The cathedral ceilings, skylights, natural wood columns, fireplace and windows overlooking the lake combine to create an open, yet cozy space. Our modern mountain decor really popped! We used navy linens and OMG they were gorgeous against all of the wood. The food was okay. I wish we could have provided our own catering, but it did make it a lot easier not having to deal with a separate vendor. If food is a major priority for you, I would highly recommend going to the tasting event prior to booking the venue. The lodging was awesome. It was so convenient having our family and closest friends with us on the property for three nights. The cabins are nice, clean, well stocked, and provide beautiful views. There aren't any street lights, so I recommend carrying a flashlight at night. My only complaint was with Cathedral Peaks, the honeymoon suite. There is zero counter space!! For a bride, you need all the counter space you can get. There also isn't a door to the toilet room. If you are staying in there with your future husband, be prepared to have zero privacy when going to the bathroom. We also had no where to hang our towels, but that's a quick fix. Also, the room had very poor lighting, making it super difficult to apply makeup and get my hair done. On the other hand, the king sized canopy bed is really nice and the huge heart-shaped hot tub was great after a long day. The property itself, is so picturesque. There are endless beautiful sites to take photos. The barn, the lakes and the mountains all provide lovely backdrops for pictures. Our photos turned out better than we could have imagined. We were astounded by how beautiful everything was. Overall, we had an amazing experience. Our family and friends thoroughly enjoyed themselves as well. I would highly recommend this venue for your wedding!! It truly is the total package. We look forward to returning to Lower Lake Ranch for our anniversary. A beautiful setting and decent cabins, but way overpriced and the event staff is strict and rude. We found mold inside the 1982 Mr Coffee maker in our cabin. For the price, they should work on customer service and be a bit more generous. Extra blankets in the rooms, a decent cup of coffee, and taking the chip off your shoulder isn't asking much. read more

Earlier this year, through research, my fiance and I compiled a list of possible wedding venues in the mountains, and set out to go visit the sites. Lower Lake Ranch was #3 on the list. There was no need to go visit #4, as we knew we had found our venue. We showed up without an appointment and the Mr Half (Drayton) stopped what he was doing and gave us a personal 2 hour tour. The next day we came back to speak with the Mrs. Half (Vera) who was busy the day prior and started the booking of the venue process. They clearly have a good understanding of how to plan a wedding. One of the best features was the food, wait staff, DJ, and bartender are all included (with upgrades available at extra cost). The alcohol is separate and we went with the recommendation on using Biggie liquors). We went over the preliminaries (choice of venue, initial headcount and menu options). Vera clearly explained the process and what things costed, there were no hidden fees. We gave an initial deposit and set up a monthly payment plan. We had our food tasting a couple months prior to wedding and finalized food selection and upgrades. A final meeting 30 days prior and any last minute changes were discussed. Wedding day finally came and it was seamless. Exactly as it was discussed. The venue is gorgeous and the scenery could not be better with the mountains, running stream and abundant wildlife. I dont recall the exact acreage, but the property is immense. Our ceremony was held at a gazebo/footbridge near a beautiful running stream. The reception building itself was intimate and rustic with plenty of room for dancing and guest tables. It affords the luxury of having guests inside and outside when the sliding barn doors are opened. Many of the guests marveled at the magnificent views. As stated earlier I had done quite a bit of research and found the the value and quality to be quite reasonable. Remember food, DJ, wait staff and bartender are INCLUDED. Drayton and Vera were helpful, knowledgeable, accommodating and patient. While we relied on them for tips and advice, they did not push us or try to influence us in any way. I enjoyed their wit and humour and plan to visit them again in the future. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who is looking for a mountain wedding. read more

Recently my husband and I just got married here. If I could do it over I would. I do not recommend having a wedding at Lower Lakes Ranch. Beautiful setting, but the management is very scattered with their duties and not too professional. We booked rooms here for our family and wedding party, even made diagrams and they still managed to screw everything up. For our rehearsal dinner they forgot our dessert request. Completely uncalled for, then tried telling me that I never made the request for turtle mountain cheesecake. Really? Why would I forget to feed my guests dessert?? As if that was not enough during rehearsal they allowed there dogs to be inside the dinner area. I found that to be odd. I am a dog lover, but we are trying to have a nice dinner with close to 40 plus people. I would have rather had my puppy in there if they would have allowed it which they did not. If I can't have my pup why is yours roaming the dining area? Like I said GREAT location poor operations due to a lack of professionalism. read more

Awful people. Awful food. Awful service. Rude rude rude. Don't bother. There are too many other places in Colorado that will treat you like a client instead of a paying trespasser or hostage. And they require customers to sign a gag agreement that threatens their customers with hundreds of dollars in daily fines for posting a negative review. The gag agreement is illegal but they use it to shut down truthful but negative reviews. Weirdest posting in cabins threatens fines for taking old and used microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, towels. First thought was who would take this junk. Second thought, what sort of clientele do they have that would do those sorts of things. Atmosphere is unfriendly, meant to intimidate, and threatening towards guests. Bates motel comes to mind. Don't use it. Management is bizarre. read more

The venue is absolutely gorgeous and worth the money. However, as soon as the wedding reception was over, Drake wouldn't answer our questions about picking up items. Our keg cooler mysteriously disappeared and they are refusing to return our deposit. I checked in with them after the stated 30 days was up to give them our new address and new last time. This was the first time I was informed that they were holding our deposit because 2 guests had disputed room charges. No where in our contract did we accept liability for rooms other than the Lakeview Lodge and I have asked repeatedly for proof of this as well as an accounting of the transactions - neither of which I have received. Our wedding was absolutely magical and the setting was amazing. However, if you choose to go there, be prepared to add a few extra $$$ to your budget because they are horrible to work with once the wedding is over. I am appalled at their lack of communication and business sense. read more

No need for tapered floral arrangements or crystal every where. Sunflowers, cowgirl boots, and dried lavender fit perfect on this working ranch. I could not say enough good things about this family owned and operated ranch/business. Vera and Bonnie are responsive and helpful to each and every question I had, let's face it brides have about a million questions a day, and they found time to answer all my questions no matter how big or small. Our families rented out the cabins and B&B rooms for the night of the wedding and everyone loved the accommodations. Food was yummy and there was plenty of it. LLR even takes the time to prepare all the meats on site and use their own secret BBQ sauce. MMMMM! Can we talk photos taken here for a sec?? We had the most BEAUTIFUL pics because of the background of the ranch. So many places to capture the perfect moments. If you're lucky enough to snag a wedding date at this venue you are in for a treat! However, if you're prissy, snobby, and your sole reasoning for picking LLR is "cuz the backdrop will provide good pics" why don't you do yourself and everyone else a favor and stick to your cookie cutter wedding at the country club. I recently attending a wedding at Lower Lake Ranch in May as a proud City Slicker there were things that I expected when attending a secluded mountain wedding venue. I have dealt with brides for the past 30 years and felt if anyone could be judgmental it was me so I wanted to make sure to keep my judgement to myself. However , that being said, The staff was pleasant and helpful, sadly in a business like this they are the first to be subjected to abuses when things don't go the "picture perfect way" that some brides imagine for their big day. The scenery, and location are spectacular! there are deer, horses, geese and a fish pond, it is country so you need to be realistic when you book an outdoor wedding, it rained, and things got muddy...everyone just had muddy feet......it made for great conversation and pictures, you have to be a laid back bride to do an outdoor event....never know what to expect! The food was good and there was plenty of it. it was hot and fresh and was buffet style. The Bride and Groom probably didn't get any, but there were happy faces all around. The noise situation, I read and heard about but this its a unique situation at LLR and really the noise doesn't need to get any louder than it was, and there were no issues, I actually went back to my cabin and could hear it faintly. its just a good idea to not get EDC loud at a venue like this. Have your DJ contact the venue to understand up front what the rules are so there's no misunderstanding on the day of your event. There is no cell service. so pre-plan or prepare to drive to the interstate ramp for service. This is a true hidden gem! I attended a corporate event here this past fall and my co-workers and I really enjoyed the experience. The food was fantastic, the hospitality was genuine and friendly, just an all around great venue for any event. If I ever get married, there is no question it will be at Lower Lake Ranch! My wife and I were married at Lower Lake Ranch in September. I would like to post a comment regarding the other negative ones that are on this site. In regards to the food...it was AMAZING. We had selected the chicken breast and brisket for our guests. Our guests loved the food, and seconds were offered to everyone. In regards to customer service...it couldn't have been better. We had some very difficult family situations to overcome. Vera and the staff were kind and accomodating toward everyone. My wife has worked in customer service for the past seven years. She was absolutely impressed by the service we received. My wife and I actually recommended Lower Lake Ranch to another couple. They were married there as well and could not say enough positive things about the venue and the staff. The price is affordable, and the views can not be beat. If you are looking for a beautiful outdoor wedding venue with Colorado views, this is the best place that you could choose. I have worked at Lower Lake Ranch for over 5 years. I am so appalled at the inaccurate negative reviews that I finally have to set the record straight. There is not a wedding venue around with owners and staff that go out of their way to help folks the way Lower Lake Ranch does. For over 5 years I've watched how the owners and their staff jump in and help when needed, they don't brag they just help make every event a great event. I'm want to share what happens at the ranch, that the owners & staff just do without looking for credit. I'm sure you are all aware of the devastating flooding that just occurred in Colorado. Just last week, a bride who booked her wedding at LLR had hired a florist in Lyons to design her arrangements. Needless to say, she was in tears and distraught - the florist could not get out of Lyons, the brides flowers and bouquet could not be delivered, so when staff heard about the situation we didn't thinks twice, we all banded together and spontaneously created beautiful rustic birch log centerpieces, with blue flowers and candles for each table. Next, we helped create a truly natural wildflower bouquet with tied raffia and blue ribbon, the groom had picked multiply wildflowers for his bride. The bride and groom were thrilled with the genuine alpine touch. Another example earlier this summer is equally as tender. A couple had booked their wedding about a year ago for June. Just before the wedding, they both lost their jobs and had to cut back on expenses. The couple decided to save some money and not use the photographer they had booked. When Lower Lake staff learned of the situation, we couldn't let this couple miss out on getting photos to cherish for the rest of their lives. We do have some very talented, creative people on staff and decided to take the wedding photos ourselves for the bride and groom. They turned out beautifully, before the reception opened, we had downloaded the photos onto a DVD, set up the computer screen to show off the wedding photos and played it for all of their guest to enjoy. Everyone in the room was teary eyed, the bride & groom said everything was unbelievable and they really did have a dream wedding. Lets talk about the cake staff made for one wedding because the cake dropped off by their bakery that had collapsed because of the high altitude. When the kitchen staff saw the falling wedding cake, they asked the owners for permission to make a wedding cake, they thought it could be done before the reception started. The owners agreed no bride should see a collapsed wedding cake. Before the reception a new beautifully decorated wedding cake prepared by our staff set on the cake stand. The family was in shock and with tears of joy said they could never imagine anyone doing what we had done. Don't tell me or anyone else Lower Lake Ranch owners and staff are not caring. I am proud to work here and on my wedding day I can only hope I find staff like Lower Lake Ranch at the venue I get married at. read more

My husband and I got married at Lower Lake Ranch June 6th, 2015 and it was an extraordinary weekend! To back up, we had moved to Colorado December of 2014, newly engaged and on the hunt for an authentic Colorado venue. We stumbled upon LLR after checking out Evergreen and upon arriving Drayton gave us a great tour + history lesson on the venue. We were fascinated by the story behind the property and scheduled their only available date in 2015. So we planned the wedding in 4 months and it was no sweat at all. (If you don't want it to be) It's definitely not a traditional venue (it's way better, in our opinions) so if you're looking for valet parking, floor to ceiling mirrors for pics of your dress, or hotel amenities this is not the wedding site for you. If you're into the outdoors, appreciate nature, and love the Colorado mountains this place is incredible! OUR EXPERIENCE: June 4th - Welcome dinner at The Bucksnort Saloon - epic local dive bar. June 5th - The Park @ Lower Lake hosted our rehearsal picnic - we ate Mexican, played tons of yard games and listened to live music June 6th - Wedding outside + reception @ Willow's Pavilon Top reasons why WE loved it: 1. The nature, animals everywhere, and Staunton State Park across the way for hiking/trails. 2. The onsite cabins were incredible for our family + bridal party to stay onsite. We had about 40 people on the property and it was great to give them a full weekend experience in Colorado since 98% of our guests flew in from out of state. 3. No cell phone service! I didn't mind not having reception but worried it might cause moments of anxiety in case we needed to order something last minute or get a hold of someone in a pinch but it wasn't an issue. In fact I loved that all our guests were so present and NEVER looked at their phones ones. Everyone was on airplane mode to save battery for photos. 4. Wedding crashers! We actually had a number of animals crash our wedding/photos including the mule deer, a weasel, the horse and a black bear! Lots of funny stories. :) 5. Dog friendly-ish! Our pup couldn't stay in the cabins (we brought a tent but she slept in the car) but it was cool to be able to have her around for the weekend to visit and play with family and friends. 6. Fishing available for our family on the property The owners are hilarious and super fun people to work with; and their staff is incredible! Such hard working and detail oriented people. Vera, Drayton and Bonnie manage the office and as much as its their personal business and an important life event they have great senses of humor and help you from overthinking or taking things too seriously. What an amazing Experience!! This coming from a guy. I have never posted a review on anything but felt compelled when my new wife :) LOVE YOU told me about the stuff she found after we got back from the honeymoon. So here goes, but brace yourself, its gonna be short. Nothing was left to be wanted. Great food, attentive staff, location-location-location, and the owners were great. My wife and I booked the Willows reception hall and cabins. They had accommodations to sleep 60 which was great because of all the out of town guests and the close friends that we knew we could count on to party late. No Drunk Driving Kids. People who complain about this place are no doubt like the customers that come into the retail store I work at, they want everything for nothing, they want it now, and so on. Sad really. We got married at Lower Lake this September and I'm having difficulty selecting how many stars. I'll give both the good and the bad. Let's start with the positives: +BEAUTIFUL location - we were at the Willows and so we had a great site for the ceremony, reception and lodging. It wasn't too far from town, but still in the mountains and gave us the secluded feeling we were desiring. We loved the idea that there was on site lodging for both Friday and Saturday so we actually made our wedding a whole weekend camping even for our families. +The meat options tasted amazing! They smoke all their meat on site and we did a tasting prior to our event and every one was delicious. We selected the chicken thighs and pulled pork and our quests raved about it. +The rental fee included parking attendants, a golf cart shuttle for guest assistance and food servers. +This venue also allows you to bring our own alcohol (though you need to pay for their bartenders) which was of particular importance to us as my father made his special honey wine so we needed a venue that would allow us to bring it. Now for the negatives: -We had too many guests for the cabins so they "Booked" us campsites that apparently don't exist. We showed up with campers just to be told we were allowed to park in a field without any electrical or water hookups. Would've have been that big of a deal if we would've known, but we didn't and brought the dogs with us so without electrical, we were afraid they would get way too hot during day and too cold at night. -Vera and the guy were EXTREMELY rude to my family when they arrived and didn't know which cabin to go to. -They were supposed to allow us an hour on Friday during the rehersal to set up the reception hall and we were only there for about 35 mins and went on a run back to the cabins to get the rest of our stuff and we came back and they had closed and locked everything down so we couldn't finish. -Though the meat were great, side item vegetables were blah and soggy. Our guests were only allowed to select one meat option at the "buffet" and even at that, we ran out of food so we didn't feel like it was much of a value. No one went hungry though so I guess that's something. We brought ice cream cakes up and even though I reminded them they needed to get it out about an hour early to let it thaw so they could cut it, they still forgot so the cake didn't come out until most of the guests were on their way out. -Though we were to bring our own alcohol (which was great), we had to bring all ICE. That's very difficult to plan when you drive up the night before. I feel like the bar service should provide that. (Doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but it was a logistical nightmare) -A few guests were drinking whiskey on the rocks and Vera told them they "should probably switch to water". The guests were on drink #2 and were just sitting down chatting....it was odd and awkward. -The worst part though has been all about money....they were actually a pretty reasonable price for everything I thought was included, but during the 30 day review, they add on all kinds of additional charges (totally over $4k extra) of taxes and service fees and the cabins are way over priced for what they are. We're still battling with them to try to get the rest of our deposit back because they "forgot" that the honeymoon suite is supposed to be comped and they took that out. I'm just disappointed in their sketchy business plan and poor customer service. It's been a few months now and whenever I email, Vera either doesn't respond or says she's not in the office, but then I don't hear from her again. Overall, I absolutely LOVED everything about the location and even with the negatives, our wedding day was still perfect!!! All that said, if I'm talking to a friend, I'd recommend finding another one of Colorado's absolutely beautiful venue locations. read more

My cousin is getting married here this summer, so my mom and I each booked a room for our families. Plans changed, and we are now staying elsewhere. The rooms we had reserved at the Lower Lake Ranch were only reserved for about 3 days total, and canceled a full 3 months before the wedding! When we called to cancel we were informed of their cancellation policy (they failed to even mention this when we booked the rooms despite me asking them if I would be able to cancel the rooms if our plans changed). They only refund your money if someone else books the room. So, my mother has been charged $400 for two nights and they will NOT refund her money. I have been charged $50 which will not be refunded, the lady on the phone commented that I should be grateful I was only charged $50. Grateful for a poor policy that makes us feel like we've been robbed ? How do we even know if they re-book the room or not? A policy as horrible as this should be made known upfront when the room is booked or stated in large print on their website. I called to ask if they had a copy of their cancellation policy available on their website, since its not something they tell you on the phone even when you ask, and the lady said she did not know. I have looked, and did not find anything about a 100% fee for cancelling. I haven't been there yet, but if this is any indication of the way they treat customers, then I'm sure my review won't improve. One last note..they call themselves a "Bed and Breakfast". When I asked where they serve the breakfast the lady seemed very confused and said "Why do you ask? We don't serve breakfast with the room." Oh, silly me.... make no assumptions with this place, you will be screwed. read more

Lower Lake Ranch is an absolutely beautiful site for a wedding reception and ceremony! My friends got married there in July 2014 and it was incredibly gorgeous. I just got to see the pictures from the wedding for the first time and the scenery is just as beautiful in the photos as it was in person. The cabins where the wedding party stayed were nice and clean. My only complaint was that when it started raining during the reception and the ceiling started to leak water, the staff seemed completely unconcerned with the water that was getting all over the floor. I tried to point it out to multiple people and they acted as if it was my problem to fix. Otherwise I had a great experience and a blast at my friends' wedding! read more

After planning and executing four weddings at Lower Lake Ranch in the 2016 wedding season we have to give a shout out to the amazing staff at Lower Lake Ranch. Vera, Drayton, Bonnie and all the staff were helpful and kind throughout the entire process with every one of our clients. They answered each and every question we had with detail. When working with other venues, we sometimes get the "it's just how we do it here" response, but never truly understand the reasons. Not with Lower Lake Ranch. They can connect every policy with a law/regulation or many past experiences and have always been willing to provide us with the details if we asked. We have the utmost respect for this group and look forward to working with them in the future. read more

First of all, I was an "employee" (under the table) here for the summer, and all I can say is DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE. Our boss, Drayton would stick his bare, visibly dirty, open wounded hands into COOKED pots of mashed potatoes, corn, etc. There were no health regulations back in the kitchen, for example, Drayton would touch raw chicken and go back to go cooking without ever washing his hands, and never asked any of us to wash our hands at any point while working in the kitchen. The staff is entirely young high schoolers plus Vera and Drayton's grandson, none of whom are trained for any part of the job, and most of whom slack off, neglect to clean anything, and steal alcohol that the wedding guests provide. Vera and Drayton are extremely rude to employees and customers, and Vera made several racist remarks on many occasions. The food all comes from the freezer, the mac & cheese is made with velveeta and the mashed potatoes with instant potato flakes. The staff is all pretty incompetent especially to handle something like an expensive wedding. The high school staff also cleans the cabins, and does an extremely half assed job. Vera on occasion would make employees write fake 5 star reviews on here so be careful. Do not pay all of the money it costs to have a lousy wedding here read more

I have just returned to Indiana after attending my best friend's wedding at Lower Lake Ranch. We had a wonderful time and delicious food. The cabin we stayed in was wonderfully comfortable and clean. The scenery was amazing, and even though it thunderstormed during the ceremony, we had a blast! I would recommend for a wedding or for a long weekend get away! read more

Lower Lake Ranch is the perfect place to gather with friends and family for any event! I recently was fortunate to experience a wedding at this stunning place. The views are absolutely breathtaking from every point! The lodges were all perfectly placed so that we could all spend time with each other yet I still felt like my significant other and I were on a relaxing vacation. The lodges themselves were very comfortable and extremely clean. The staff was so friendly and professional as well. The best part was that they had a few main gathering lodges where we could all have dinner together, play games and just enjoy each other's company! It is rare to have that kind of experience at any wedding. It was a beautiful and memorable experience to say the least and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to host their special event! read more

Lower Lake Ranch is not only a gorgeous setting for a wedding, but the food, service, and on-site lodging are wonderful. Most of our guests were from out of town and we heard time and time again that this setting was stunning and that everything about the lodging and the wedding were perfect. Throughout our 2 year engagement, Vera and Bonnie answered all of our questions in a timely manner and helped us not worry about anything day-of. Each staff member was flexible, helpful, and kind. Vera has so much experience and has a lot of useful tips and is straight forward. My husband and I were both unbelievably happy with the wedding and LLR is so much to thank for that! read more

Our daughter's wish, was to marry in the mountains of CO. Her dream came true when she found Lower Lake Ranch. As city folks, having a rural destination wedding seemed daunting. It was refreshing that the owners told us upfront what the guidelines were, and what to expect (no hidden agendas or costs), in order for the wedding to flow effortlessly. We had our choice of two magnificent barns for the reception. One area actually had cabins, which housed many of our guests. We felt comfortable in these cabins and it was wonderful to wake in the morning to the quiet, beautiful trees, lakes and deer roaming the property. Being off the cell & wi-fi grid only enhanced the connection between two new families. The wedding and reception was perfect. Your florist suggestion, Moon Doggie Gardens, was much appreciated. Susan was very patient, helpful and florals were so pretty. Drayden's smoked salmon & pulled pork with homemade bbq sauce was delicious. I am getting married at LLR in October. That is why it has not gotten the full 5 stars yet. What I can say is that I have read these reviews and what becomes apparent is that people are not reading their contracts and are expecting LLR to do all of the work for them. First, you must read and re-read the contract frequently. There is a lot of information in the contract that is clearly stated however if you do not go over it regularly you will miss things when they are important. Second, it is your wedding and you should be diligent about asking clarifying questions prior to it being an issue. I read one review about booking the campsites and how it was stated that there was not water or electricity hookups. At the very first meeting we had they went over this option in detail and made it very clear that if you wanted the space then there would be no bathrooms, water, or electricity so you would need to provide that on your own. Another review complained about having to pay extra for ice. Again, that is all in your contract. The LLR team is on track with what they need to do, and they expect that you will be too. If you are organized and on top of your wedding planning, then they will not give you a hard time. I have had a wonderful experience with LLR and appreciate how clear they do state things on paper and how quick they are to respond with an answer if anything seems unclear. read more

I had my wedding at this location, and I'm surprised to read the reviews previously posted. I was very very unhappy with the customer service here. I made sure to schedule my wedding venue a year and 1/2 early, but even with that much notice, the managers/owners managed to mess up the table seating. Although this sounds like this is minor, it was actually a huge dilemma! According to their requested table schematic, I arranged my guest to sit in round tables and had spent a great deal of time preparing and thinking out where everyone would sit- as this is pretty standard with any wedding planning. Once we arrived on the day of the rehearsal dinner, Vera, the owner, had only provided us with rectangular tables... This was not what we had discussed. When I calmly asked her about it and said we agreed on the round tables, she then explained that the other wedding party "had been booked with her for much much longer and had already reserved all the round tables". I was in shock that she was looking at me and saying this to my face, just as I pulled out the table schematic that she requested I fill out with only the option of round tables to seat my guest at. As if this wasn't insulting enough, the fact that she felt it was necessary to point out that the other party had been scheduled for much longer than us, I pointed out to her that we had reserved this day 1.5 yrs in advance, and at that time, we had our choice of venues as no one else had reserved anything back when we did. I chose this place with my husband as we are out door enthusiast and love camping, the mountains, hiking, etc. On paper this looks like a great place for people like us, but in reality, it's far from a relaxing experience! I have to say, the most insulting part was that Vera, the owner, couldn't just look me in the eyes and appologize, she made every excuse and then tried to push it on me. Look out too for hidden expenses when the day after your wedding! That's fun. Maybe that part didn't sting as much, considering I did just get married and was over the moon about that! read more

I was in my friend's wedding in May, & was extremely disappointed with LL Lodge & would never recommend this venue to anyone! The staff was rude, grumpy & anything BUT friendly. We stayed in the Bonnie "cabin", & it would be more appropriately called a shack. The bathroom was FILTHY,dead bugs, dirt, grime & a disgusting plunger were in our bath tub when we arrived, & I don't want to begin to describe the toilet condition. I'm far from prissy, have traveled to third world countries, & I was grossed out by the "cabin". The color of the water was rusty brown, even though we let the water from all the faucets run for 30 minutes. We brushed teeth with bottled water& closed our eyes in the shower. Our friends are some of the nicest, sweetest people on the planet, & what should've been a blissful, beautiful experience was tainted by the lack of customer service & rudeness of the owners & staff of Lower Lake Lodge. Thank goodness the mountain venue & scenery is beautiful, that helped to soften the poor quality of service. Besides the scenery, the only other positive I'd give this place would be the food, it was thankfully better than we feared it would be. If you're considering this venue, I'd HIGHLY recommend RE-CONSIDERING! Stay far away from this place, they have NO business being in the hospitality business!!! read more
