I much prefer the West Ashley location over this one. This was my second visit where the employees were standing around but not very helpful. When I asked for specific flowers and blackout shades, they didn't seem familiar with what I was looking for, which was frustrating. Do they not take their jobs seriously or are they that clueless about the products in their specific department? I ended up finding everything myself after searching again, but it shouldn't have to be that way. On top of that, the shade cutter was broken and no one could give an estimate on when it would be fixed. I bought a brand-new front door lock from the James Island Lowe's and within weeks it completely failed. Not only did I have to pay out of pocket for a locksmith, but I was also told I would need to remove the entire lock from my front door and bring it into the store for help. That left my brand-new home with no lock at all, a huge safety risk. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with multiple Lowe's reps, being transferred around, hung up on, and told different things each time. The store manager even suggested I drive to another Lowe's an hour away, only for them to tell me they couldn't do any more than the first store. So after 3 plus hours on the phone, 2 separate stores, and a 2 hour round trip, I ended up right where I started with no working lock, no help, and wasted time and money. To make matters worse, all of this happened while my home sat completely unsecured with no one inside. This is unacceptable. Lowe's should be standing behind the products they sell and providing real solutions, not pushing the problem onto the customer, forcing unsafe situations, or making them jump through endless hoops. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, avoid Lowe's. Their customer service is beyond broken, and their treatment of customers in urgent situations is shameful. read more

Bought a Frigidaire refrigerator on July 11, 2025 and I was delivered on July 13, 2025. September 6, 2025 the refrigerator stopped working. No help from Lowe's but a mini refrigerator that was delivered to me until Frigidaire come to repair. Lowe's sells defective products and they do not stand behind their products. It's been quite some time since I went into Lowe's as I have been usually going to a local hardware store which of course is much, much smaller than Lowe's. Today (which was Labor Day) we went in to see about a new brushless battery powered lawn mower as our 6 year old one was working and not working whenever it felt like it. Looking online we saw that they did not have the brand and the lawn mower style that we wanted but we thought maybe they would have one on floor display before we end up ordering it and having to wait a week for it to arrive in the James Island Lowe's store. So, off we went in a slight rain. First to the lawnmower section where we saw some more expensive self-propelled lawnmowers but not the brand to match my blower and two weed eaters and edger. A bit disappointed we went to the the tool section to find star bits of T20 and T40. Not having much luck, our luck improved quite a bit when we were served by a very friendly, a very knowledgeable, and charmingly funny Bill (a veteran per the patch on his Lowe's vest) in the tool section. A quick find and time then spent chatting with Bill. Ask for him in the tool section, folks! Back to the lawnmower section where we were greeted again by Launa who had great news from her manager Donald that since the EGo brand mower we wanted was not in stock we amazingly and surprisingly received a self-propelled mower for the cost of the non-propelled as that particular store did not have what we wanted in stock. The joy of a one day, Labor Day surprise sale. Then Don and John helped cheerfully volunteered to load that large, heavy lawnmower box into my SUV, and off we went merrily home. The absolute worst customer service. Went to the return desk to get a refund because I was overcharged for an appliance I had delivered, but when it arrived it didn't include the hoses I ordered with it. The young man rolled his eyes at me and told me I would need to go to the appliance desk, okay fine. But then when I got there another man decided it was too complicated for him to figure out and told me I needed to go to the exact store I order it from. There's a joke in the Family Guy episode where employees in stores like Lowe's and home improvement hide from customers so that they don't have to help them, this has never been more abundantly true than this location. Employees would avoid eye contact. I would have to practically chase them down to ask a simple question like "where do I pick up my order" and they would just shrug "customer service" and go back to ignoring me, like i knew where that was. when I had to ask again, They just pointed and said "that way" and went back to what they were doing. I had to ask at least two or three people on the way to customer service how to get there. When I got there, nobody really wanted to help me and it took over 15 minutes for them to bring a floor model to the front. I was told I could take the floor model because they were out of stock of the refrigerator I wanted in the back, and the only stipulation was that I would have to have it delivered myself. so we deliver this refrigerator up a flight of stairs to my house and the next morning I plugged it in, did everything the manual said, and turns out it doesn't work. When I called I was told, "we sell those as is, you cannot return it, call whirlpool, and have them deal with it with your warranty." I was not told this was a not returnable, I thought I had 30 days. When the manager discovered they didn't have any models in the back, he said "here's what I'll do for you. I'll let you take this one for 220 bucks. You'll just have to deliver it yourself. I can't offer delivery." He made it sound like he was doing me a favor, and I bought it hook line and sinker. you would think a reputable store like Lowe's wouldn't steal money from customers by selling defective - no, BROKEN products. The air in my house is cooler than inside the refrigerator. When I told them that the only stipulation was that I had to deliver it myself and that was the only thing that I was told. I was not told that Lowe's, again, a supposedly "reputable company" would not accept a return of defective equipment sold to customers, BY A MANAGER, and basically steal my money. the person I spoke to on the phone, who actually did sound like the manager that sold me the fridge said "well I didn't sell it to you", implying it's the mistake of whoever sold it to me. If you would like me to point this manager out, I'd be happy to. I am giving this rating for the excellent customer service I received the other day at the Ellis Drive location. I went in wanting a sample of a paint color made by Behr (which they do not carry) and was not articulating very well what I wanted. Despite these annoyances, the woman at the paint desk was very patient, kind, friendly and helpful. And she was able to match the color from a description I found online! Additionally, the young lady working the self checkout was eager to help and very friendly as well. I only regret that I can't recall their names. Horrible customer service. I placed an order for next day delivery, which is apparently performed by a third party. My items were never delivered nor was there a means for me to track them down without speaking to Lowes customer service. The only order update provided was that the order was picked up but "delayed." As the customer, I would expect that Lowes to provide me the product I ordered if I went in to pick it up, and then resolve the issue of the missing merchandise with the third party. I expressed this with the manager, who was incredibly rude, talked over me and said that he had to wait on a response from the third party before taking any action to resolve the issue for me. Zero stars. I am writing to complain about Lowe's not honoring their return policy. Short version - they are refusing to refund for a defective mini-fridge that is within the 30 day return policy because of some "secret" exception to the return policy that is not mentioned anywhere in their online listing. The listing even specifies that this item is eligible for return until September 22nd, but I was turned away both in person and by phone because of the "48 hour return policy exception" they apparently have now. Can't recommend Lowe's anymore and won't be shopping there again as they can't be trusted to stand by their products or treat their customers fairly. Long version - I purchased a mini-fridge on August 24th, online, and had it delivered the same day. This refrigerator does not keep a consistent temperature - it ranges from 18 degrees to over 50 degrees - meaning that it alternates between freezing items and not keeping food cool enough to be safe to eat. I've tried numerous options to fix this problem - different settings, putting in fewer items, making sure everything is cooled to room temperature before putting it in the fridge, not putting bottled drinks in with food at all, etc. Nothing has improved the situation, so I finally gave up and started a return online. I was given a "return barcode" online and the website said to return the item and barcode to the store by September 22nd. Earlier this evening I took the fridge to the James Island Lowe's, expecting a simple return process. The associate scanned the item (never scanned the return barcode) and told me the item could not be returned because it was beyond the 90 day return policy. I pointed out that it was purchased on August 24th (meaning it is within the 30 day return policy, much less any 90 day policy). He consulted another associate who said that the item falls under their "48 hour return policy" as it is considered a major appliance. Personally I wouldn't consider a 2.5 cubic foot mini-fridge a "major appliance" but whatever.... that's not my complaint. My complaint is that NO WHERE in the online listing does it say anything at all about a 48 hour return policy or about this item being any kind of exception to their standard return policy. I would never have purchased it if it had. To make matters worse, the information given to me in my "purchases" section online even specifies it is eligible for return until September 22nd! To add insult to injury - not only does Lowe's have some kind of arbitrary exception to their return policy that you are (SOMEHOW?) supposed to know about without being told about it, but the associate also said that if I had made the purchase with a Lowe's credit card instead of a different debit or credit card, there would apparently be an exception to the "48 hour exception" and they would have honored the 30 day policy. This is also never mentioned in the listing. I also reached out to Lowe's customer service via phone when I returned home. The associate I spoke to there also apologized, but agreed they could not go against their return policy. She suggested, as did the local store associates, that I take the matter up with the manufacturer and have the fridge replaced. At this point, however, it isn't just about the fridge. It's about the fact that Lowe's, a company my family and I have trusted and shopped at for years, won't stand by their product, their own return policy (AS IT IS ADVERTISED TO THE CUSTOMER), and won't even try to fix this problem that they alone created. read more

Re online deserves -5 stars: ordered a two package closet system, only one got delivered, was told by the worst 12 year old cusomter service person that it was out of stock and they started a return. She made arrangements for the package that got delivered to be picked for a return by FedEx so i stuck it outside with a note "FedEx Return". After sitting for two days I called back only to learn that LOWES was trying to pick it but left it because of my note. So lowes is coming back for it tomorrow. THE oUT OF STOCK iTEM JUST GOT DELIVERED today a week later. And of course they cant pick up BOTH items tomorrow just the one and scheduled a new pickup date for that package. So not only did Lowes let me PAY fOR AN ITEM that was OUT OF STOCK, they delivered the fucker a week later. You generally cannot find an employee willing to help in nearly any department. Stocking of materials and equipment is poor, to say the least. Time is money-for me and most construction pros, but I have wasted so much time waiting on assistance at this Lowe's. So many of their items are behind a locked cage, that you need someone to access, but no one is available. I recently needed 25' of 14/2 wire. After pressing the call button and waiting 15+ minutes for someone to open it, a young man came and stated that he isn't part of the electrical department l, but that the lady who was in electrical seems to be deaf. Once he unlocked the cage, he informed me that he had to take the $30 wire to the register for me, per policy and asked what register I would like it taken to. I told him "Self-checkout", and that I was just grabbing a roll of insulation then heading to the register. He informed me that Lumber (the slowest and busiest cashier) was closer to insulation and that he would leave it there. I stated I would rather use self-checkout, but he walked away to Lumber. I retrieved the insulation and walked to Lumber. Once I saw a line of 7 people with full lumber carts and a very slow cashier, I decided "No". I checked out through self-checkout, without the wire, took my items to the car, came back, and noted the Lumber line had not progressed and more were adding to it. I went back to electrical, pushed the button, waited through two cycles of the button, then the woman who worked in the department finally showed up and said, "Sorry, I had to talk to a cute baby" or something like that. I don't know if it was a phone call or what, but she then started talking to another customer while I casually walked from the button to the wire cage. She unlocked the cage and grabbed the wire for me, then told me she did not need to maintain custody of it and I could take it to the register of my choice. Finally, 55 minutes at Lowe's, I had my highly guarded $30 of wire. BTW, the Lumber line was still not to the point I would have been waiting originally. Thanks! read more

Just went to Lowe's to return a large pressure washer. It was the day after Christmas and it wasn't busy. It was raining so I pulled up to the front of the store that was marked loading zone. As I got out of my vehicle a lowes associate marched over and told me I couldn't park there. Since I was carrying a large box I walked into the store to the return area. She followed me in and told ne to leave the item and move my car. I pointed out to here that there were other vehicles parked in the loading zone. She smiled and said she had her eye on them. Like everyone else, I came during COVID-19 to work on house projects, primarily renovating bathrooms with inexpensive but functional, updated materials (inserts and vanities). Prices were good, but many items were out of stock. It took forever to find associated for help, and we were told that out-of-stock items would take several weeks to arrive to the store. We went with some in-stock items, but inventory was low so we did not get our first pick. It took literal hours for the employees to get things down with fork lifts and load in our trailer. Probably the worst customer service issues I've ever ran into. Our fridge crapped out so we came and bought one in stock for next day delivery. After waiting all day for the fridge to arrive, I called the number to check when it would come. They said 11-3 (it was 2:30). Time passes, and it's 4:30, still no contact. I call to check in on the order and I'm told the delivery apparently was canceled without any contact from lowes or the third party delivery company they use to fulfill their deliveries. They ended up giving me the runaround with the delivery company and the store telling me two totally different things about how to get a refund and shop somewhere else since I didn't want to give them my business after the lack of communication. if I could give them 0 start, I would. I ordered a refrigerator on their website cause the one I wanted was only available online and with a good price. After waiting for weeks, they finally delivered a wrong one, smaller. I called them asking to give me the correct one. They told me that the one I wanted was not in stock and that I gotta wait till it back in stock. In the mean time, they would pick the wrong one up in 2 days. I was like....so where would we leave the food till we got a new one. They said it's not their problem, and it's their policy to pick it up within 48 hours. They said I would need to go to the store to get another one, which is definitely not in stock at the store. And I would need to pay again cause they wouldn't refund the money till they got the wrong one back. The ridiculous thing is...the supervisor told me that I shouldn't have relied on their website when I bought it. I was like...it's your company and it's your website. And if you didn't have it in stock, you could have communicated with me, and we could have waited a little bit longer to get what I ordered instead of giving me a wrong one. And when I told the delivery guy that it's not what I ordered, instead of leaving my refrigerator be and take the wrong one back, he told me he only delivered and picked up. If I had any question, call his company. This company is just bad and does not care about their customers. It's not an ethical way to do business. I know they could have done something about it, but they just did not have the willingness to do it even though it's their fault. read more

My review for this location today is based only on the customer service desk / online pickup desk. I ordered some items online to have picked up at this location, because they weren't available at my primary location. Upon walking in, I went straight to the proper area for pickup, and waited, and waited, while associates talked with one other customer as a group, and other associates walked by me. It was apparent that I was waiting, but I still stood there for a few minutes until another associate came up to the group and asked if I had been waited on. The associate that got my items asked if I needed a cart, and she went out and got one for me (extra star for the effort), but otherwise it was a blah experience. The store itself is beautiful though, and I'm sure it's worthy of more stars, but the service leading up to this review was not something to write home about. read more

I asked 4 separate individuals for help and never received it...very frustrating experience. I lost an ikea tool that I needed to disassemble my kitchen table when moving. I brought a smaller version of the tool I needed to have an example of what I was looking for and the correct sized bolt I needed a new tool to fit. I explained my problem to the person at customer service and he instructed me to go to the tools section to get some help. Got to the tools section, waited for five minutes to find someone, and asked someone there for help. He brought me to someone working at the register, who then went over the intercom to direct someone to go to the hardware section to help us. We waited around for 15 minutes and no one showed up. I ended up deciding on my own what to purchase, and walked further into the hardware section. Someone was working on a ladder in front of the tools I wished to look at. I asked that when he had a moment, could I look at the tools there. He didn't respond and got up and walked away. Overall confounding experience. I don't think I was ever overbearing or disrespectful, and I never voiced my frustration with the process to anyone. Given that I interacted with 4 separate employees, all of whom couldn't/didn't help me, I do not recommend shopping at this location if you have the choice. read more

I have gotten light bulbs, wood, carpet cleaner, piping, plants, cleaning supplies and more. This is truly a home owners delight. With a large parking lot, conveniently located on James Island close to West Ashley, John's Island and downtown and an exceptional selection, this is the go to place for your home, gardening and construction needs. They also deliver large items as well. And a key making machine. I love that thing. Paint, they will make any color. Specific wood size? They will cut it for you. This Lowe's is very convenient as it is located next to the James Island Connector and is easy to get in and out of with a large parking and plenty of available parking. I like that this store is well organized and well stocked with supplies that I need. I have not been disappointed on any visit here as I have found exactly what I was looking for without any trouble. The staff here is very knowledgeable about all things home improvement and I have had all of my questions answered and was able to use those answers to complete my project. I went against my better judgement and ordered a refrigerator from Lowe's on James Island. I was assured that the refrigerator was in stock and could be delivered on the confirmed date. On the morning of the promised delivery I was told by the delivery team that my refrigerator was not available (even after a call from Lowe's confirming delivery the day before). I was offered two options, wait 6 days or receive a lower end model the next day with the promise of a gift card representing the difference. I went for the cheaper model and the gift card. After several visits, I have yet to receive my due compensation. DO NOT BUY APPLIANCES FROM LOWES JAMES ISLAND. I have been lied to, they have taken my receipts (not to be returned). and I am out of over $200. The delivery team for my refrigerator was fantastic! The employees here are generally helpful, though I think they could learn from the WA Home Depot! Paint employee messed up a gallon at some point, causing us to repaint an entire room. Those that corrected the problem were very helpful, which did help the cruddy situation. Customer service is hit or miss here, depending on who is working.
