Generator Installed Incorrectly, Not Reliably Operational, and No Accountability…read more We had an extremely poor experience with Martin Porter and Clark Sales & Service. Martin was our primary point of contact and the person we relied upon to advise us regarding the appropriate Generac system, generator placement, available options, covered circuits, and coordination of the installation. Our 26 kW Generac generator was installed in approximately July 2025. During the following year, it experienced repeated operational problems and failed us during two power outages. When we needed the generator in May, it did not operate because of a failed circuit that the technician described as an extremely unusual problem for a generator of that age. The more serious problem occurred during an extended power outage and heat wave. Although we had specifically agreed that our well pump and HVAC would be backed up, neither operated on generator power. We were left without water or air conditioning during the outage, creating exactly the health and safety situation we purchased the generator to prevent. Martin did arrange for the electrical contractor to return and correct the problem. The electrician initially appeared to believe that the well pump and HVAC had been connected properly, but later claimed that those items had been omitted from Martin's work order. Regardless of how the mistake occurred between Clark Sales & Service and its contractor, the critical circuits we expressly requested were not connected, and no effective quality-control testing was performed before the system was placed in service. After completing the corrective work, the contractor did not test the system to confirm that the well pump and HVAC operated on generator power. We later tested the system ourselves with a different electrician and confirmed that the corrected system was working properly. We have received no meaningful acknowledgment or apology from Martin or Clark Sales & Service for the incorrect installation, lack of testing, or substantial inconvenience and physical discomfort it caused. After the corrective work was completed, I directly asked Martin to call me and acknowledge what had happened. He did not respond and has not communicated with me since. We also would have considered a larger, whole-home Generac system, but Martin did not adequately explain or present those options. We now intend to upgrade through another provider because we no longer have confidence in Martin Porter or Clark Sales & Service. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Clark Sales & Service. Anyone using this company should insist on comprehensive testing under simulated outage conditions before accepting the installation.

The customer service I received during my recent visit last week left a bitter taste in my mouth. I placed an online order to pick up. With each transaction, making comments on their order and even stars to one how she had "just grabbed the last one" of something while giggling. When my turn came I did not receive the same customer service. She went in the back and got the order and asked me to sign a form. While signing it I asked if the store had GIFT BAGS or WRAPPING PAPER. She says "I can give you another shopping bag and some tissue paper. I said no I need a gift bag, how about the wrapping paper? She says "the wrapping paper is $8". I think to myself, I never asked for the price of the wrapping paper I'm asking if it's available and if it is please show it to me! So I ask her what the wrapping paper looks like because obviously she's not trying to wrap the item and not going to offer it. Instead of the associate saying well let me show you a sample, she begins to verbally explain the print on the wrapping paper. While she's explaining it she's also taking out tissue paper and another shopping bag (which I didn't ask for). I asked if it was possible to see the wrapping paper and she shuffles around behind the register and asks another associate if there was any up front. Finally she goes in the back and brings the smallest piece of wrapping paper to show me. I agreed to buy it and before anything she reminded me it was $8. I paid, she took my item in the back and wrapped it. When she brought it back she was about to hand it to me until I looked at the shopping bag that had my receipt attached (because why would you hand me an item instead of putting it in the bag?) The entire time she has this forced smile like I was taking up her time. While in fact she took up her own time by not being proactive. I've never had to beg for wrapping paper before, I guess there's a first for everything. I won't be going back in there, too much unnecessary hassle.

I carried the rug in and had to wait awhile to be acknowledged so that wasn't a good start. The store looked to be a beautiful showroom with tons of beautiful rugs on display. A guy finally came over and offered to measure the rug for me. While he was doing that the manager approached so I explained that I needed the rug cleaned, but wanted an estimate because if the cost of cleaning was more than the value of the rug, I wouldn't have it cleaned. He totaled the cost according to the measurements and quoted me a number. I responded that I would just wait since the rug was less expensive than the cost to clean it. He then turned away from me, said, "Roll it up for her" to the worker and walked away. I yelled a thank you at him even though he was so rude. I think now even if I need a rug cleaned in the future, I will go somewhere else.
