But turmoil has come over the past year and it's not good. Corporate Franchise Ace called Abbott's bought the shop and made it part of a east coast chain, and it's affected the experience negatively. Staff turnover has been very high, customer service is lackluster. One guy today couldn't bother to say "excuse me" while I was looking over some items and he just had to get to one of the items in front of me. Manners is seriously lacking with some of their staff. There's no clear leadership in the store - other than corporate from New York state dictating sales. Whomever is running the place needs to hire better people - more training so their more knowledgable about their products, and maybe people that are a bit more people oriented. One cashier lady is so morose I've come to hate going to her. A couple of the old crew is still around but with the turnover rate, and the lack of corporate care for service, I don't think they'll be around much longer. I've always placed Suburban Ace (now Costello Ace) as my First Choice for hardware needs, but with lackluster staff, poor product knowledge and a lack of customer service, that preference is fading fast. Home Depot is a little bit further from my workshop but the people there are, overall, better now than those at Costello Ace. Damn shame and I hope they get their act together.

Rarely am I not greeted, and often an employee, if they see me in the aisle will ask if I need assistance. Although not a warehouse store like *cough Home Depot cough *, they have almost everything I need (within reason). I like how they have pretty much every wood stove accessory or repair item, this is something that the warehouse stores *cough Lowes cough* do not carry. Tip: Sign up for their loyalty program. You get discounts and credits towards future purchases. Tip: If you come in with kids, bring a couple of quarters for the old school HUGE gumball machine.

The guy held the door open and told him to carry the soil into the store. When he saw my dad struggling to walk and carry the soil, he got so annoyed by him that when my father finally got close to the front door, he shut the door in his face, and walked back inside. This is my absolute last straw with this place. You cannot bill yourself as the "friendly neighborhood hardware store" and keep doing things like this to your customers. I think I've been in one ACE downtown once many moons ago, so I wasn't sure if the washer fluid would be here. I walk in and I'm greeted. It's the small things and my mind was already blown. I walk around. The stores a little tight, but I didn't mind... that gave me hope that the had what I needed. I don't make it 20 feet in and I already had a bag of potting soil in my hand. It will be used I promise. So I'm walking around, trying not to look lost and apparently I didn't do the best job, because an employee asked if I needed help. "Why Yes, kind sir" hose thingy that can attach. He knew what I was talking about pointed up and talked about a few and I saw one I liked and he grabbed it for me! Next mission washer fluid, which was super easy to find! I wandered around for a bit more and I have to admit I was super surprised! I walk to checkout and grabbed some mango hi-chews and the lovely lady upfront that greeted me checked me out and signed me up for the Ace rewards. She was sweet! I will be back!
