LS CARLSON LAW PC was recommended to me by another attorney. After researching them, I found their website showed experience in contractor disputes, breach of contract, fraud, misrepresentation, performance issues, illegal mechanic liens, poor workmanship, property damage, and building code violations. This assured me they had the expertise for my case. For months, I worked with the intake coordinator, who advised me to collect all evidence--including documents, photos, emails, texts, invoices, change orders, and inspection reports--before meeting LS CARLSON LAW PC. I followed her advice and gathered everything needed. At the end of April, I delivered a 2-inch and a 3-inch binder to LS CARLSON LAW PC, both organized with a table of contents. The binders contained evidence regarding two General Contractors who broke multiple business, ethical, and Contractor's laws. In mid-May, I had a free consultation with a managing partner at LS CARLSON LAW PC. He advised me to file complaints with the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) for each contractor to strengthen my case and noted litigation could cost at least $150,000. I clarified that I preferred a reasonable resolution without litigation, and he assured me he'd remain involved. A week after the consultation, I signed the retention documents. LS CARLSON LAW PC confirmed receipt by email and said the next step was paying the retainer. In early June, I paid a retainer to LS CARLSON LAW PC to start my case. The following day, I received emails introducing two attorneys and their paralegals. However, the managing partner who promised to stay involved was not included, making me feel misled by his unexpected absence. By mid-June, I notified the attorneys by email that I had CSLB case numbers for complaints filed against the General Contractors. To assist LS CARLSON LAW PC further and explore additional solutions, I contacted both contractors' bonding companies to learn their claim procedures. My goal was to find out the necessary documentation and steps for filing a bond claim, ensuring I was prepared to pursue all remedies if needed. LS CARLSON LAW PC sent me an invoice after the emails, explaining their billing: invoices are issued bi-weekly, due in three business days. If paid by credit card, future payments will be processed automatically unless the client asks for a different method. The firm's invoice totaled $2,319. This amount included a one-time file initiation fee--essentially an extra charge--and 4.2 hours of professional work related to my case. Although the bill listed specific charges and descriptions, all it mentioned was preparing an email to the client, starting a draft, and working on litigation analysis. By month's end, I had not heard from LS CARLSON LAW PC. Unlike my previous experiences with attorneys, their lack of communication made me feel my case was not a priority. After reviewing the retention documents, I learned that if LS CARLSON LAW PC didn't settle my case within 120 days or before trial, another retainer between $25,000 and $75,000 would be required. With 51 days passed and no communication or progress, I was concerned about facing high additional fees with no updates from my legal team. I discovered a clause that entitled the referring attorney to 12.5% of all payments I made to LS CARLSON LAW PC. Combined with warnings about litigation costs exceeding $100,000 and poor communication from my legal team, I was concerned about the financial and emotional impact. After preparing all evidence myself and receiving little response, I chose to end my relationship with LS CARLSON LAW PC to avoid further expense and frustration. LS CARLSONS LAW PC, managing partner responded to my email: "I'm sorry that you feel like you were subject to a bait and switch, but that is not the case. Given my availability and workload, we assigned your matter to another partner. She has been working with another top associate....... If you are still interested in working with our firm, I can take this matter over." I questioned the managing partner's commitment when he initially delegated my case due to being busy, but later offered to handle it personally after I considered ending LS CARLSON LAW PC's services. This abrupt shift seemed insincere and inconsistent. LS CARLSON LAW PC refunded my retainer and gave me a thumb drive with all my case documents when I picked them up. I found that the thumb drive contained case materials dated nine days after my relationship with the firm ended. The attorneys completed significant work only after they were terminated and kept requesting more information, even though I had already provided everything in organized binders. Repeated requests for documents I had already submitted revealed issues with the firm's clarity and transparency. The lack of clear and consistent communication made me wish for greater honesty and openness from the legal team. And I might have had a better outcome for my case. read more

I do not recommend this firm-Big promises, Big bills and no results. I just let them go from my case. Failed to inform me that they and my HOA had agreed on a mediator for ADR and instead led me to believe the HOA was still being uncooperative while encouraging me to send a demand letter and then schedule a litigation call. A week AFTER the litigation transfer call with a senior attorney I was told I had to Proceed in good faith and give the HOA the remaining time (60days) to complete an ADR. I was so confused. This information should have been provided to me PRIOR To my spending thousands on the litigation transfer call. During that 60 day period my attorney never reached out the mediator to get the ADR on calendar-he just waited and blamed the HOA for not doing it when the deadline passed. It has been 6 months since I engaged LS Carlson and zero progress has been made. Gaslighting me when I bring up my concerns. I thought they fight for owners of the HOA only, I liked their website so I decided to hire a lawyer due to ongoing dispute of the water intrusion to the apartment below the apartment I own.THE HOA has been harassing me and my tenants for years to make written threats to evict them etc.Make a long story short, I called LS Carlson and the first question the paralegal asked me : " How much money can you afford to spent?". I answered $10,000( ten thousand dollars) and she said: " Do you want me give you phone numbers for companies which does not charge for hourly rate like us but just for 15 minutes?" I just called them after reading their web site. NO where in the website does it say that they charge a mandatory 1 hour fee to listen to your case at $400.00 per hour. I figure if I am going to POTENTIALLY hire them for a lot of $$ that I need to see them and see if they fit me as well. If they cannot spend a little time to see if we are a match than it is a NO GO. All I needed was a letter sent to the solar panel company informing them that I had retained Ls Carlton Attorney services and will be represented by them during mediation. I too gave them a retainer and did not hear from them for close to two months later, was assigned an attorney and had a telephonic meeting. After 2 months of hearing nothing, I get an astronomical bill that is due within days. I have yet to see a letter to solar company. Will update this issue with more to follow. All they did over several months was to get CCRs document from the HOA, which I had already provided them. My experience with LS Carlson Law, especially with Attorney Tim Mahar, was exceptional in all respects. This positive experience began with Kathryn Urrutia, Client Services Specialist. She responded promptly and accommodatingly regarding requests such as a change in appointment time, telephone access questions, and document submission. She understood I felt anxious about getting "my money's worth". Every minute with Attorney Tim Mahar was indeed worthwhile. This began with Tim's willingness to read a full overview of my case prior to my first meeting with him. Thus, much less time was wasted providing background. Tim Mahar not only grasped my case legalistically, he also showed compassion for my situation. He showed a patience with me that enabled me to present all the points I wanted to cover. I felt my case was important to him. In addressing my questions and concerns, his communication style was very direct, clear and logical. I recall thinking he would also make a great teacher. My issue involved an HOA dispute. It was obvious Attorney Tim Mahar had extensive experience with HOA disputes, including my more novel landscaping issue. Tim Mahar made me totally aware of my legal rights were, including very specific advice on what course of action to take. He detailed the legal process I needed to go through to pursue my full legal rights. He knew exactly how to pursue a claim against an HOA, giving me clear directives and a specific sequence to follow. Tim Mahar's advice was realistic rather than sugar-coated. He did not want me to "throw good money after bad". He gave me a realistic outlook regarding the costs of different options and the likelihood of prevailing in my case. I felt he had a good sense of how HOA Boards and judges would react to the different options we discussed. Overall, my initial meeting with Attorney Tim Mahar was totally worthwhile and money well spent. He generously closed the meeting saying I could email him further questions that I may have forgotten to ask him. After receiving several invalid notices of non-compliance from my HOA, I hired the Kushner Carlson team to advocate my case. The HOA board I was dealing with was not only uninformed, but also ignoring the fact they had a board member who openly engaged in bullying and harassment. To make matters worse, the property management company hired by the HOA was equally uninformed and did nothing to mediate or circumvent the problem. I received several notices of non-compliance that were in no way supported by the community rules or CCR's. Once I hired Kushner Carlson, Nicholas Caplin and Sara Etemadi took over and kicked things into gear. They stopped the property management company from issuing invalid non-compliance letters and educated both the board and property management company regarding the governing CCR's. I cannot guarantee I won't be harassed by my unstable neighbor, but at least she's not serving on the board anymore. I firmly believe my issue would not have been favorably resolved without legal representation. I would and will hire Kushner Carlson again should I find myself in a similar situation.
