A summary of my experience: * Mistakes: A year after filing with Choice Tax, we found a considerable discrepancy in my favor from the reports that they prepared, that my new accountant could fortunately amend (It took me 1+ years to get a refund). I initially thought it was due to the complexity of my case, but some mistakes were part of the standard process and could have been perfectly avoided. * Bad customer service: No customer friendly. She sounds arrogant and not very tolerant with questions from someone not well versed in US tax stuff (as I was). Now, If she makes one mistake she'll probably blame you. She also charged me an extra hour for something that I thought was just part of my standard return (I had already payed $720, so I ended up paying more than 1K). Not big deal, but I wasn't expecting that and would have preferred to know upfront. * International assets: I didn't find her knowledgeable enough on things like stocks and/or foreign assets (especially if you have a cross-border or cross-state situation). Most of the time I was on my own on figuring things out or asking questions to my company's HR department, and potentially making mistakes because of lack of guidance. If she had worked on a single case of a person perceiving salary in part in stock and relocating internationally or across states, I wouldn't have to do that or incurred in over-reporting. I thought that my case was quite complex or unique, but after working with other professionals I found out that it wasn't uncommon at all (especially in NYC which is a common relocation destination for employees of big corporations). I see a lot of 5 star reviews, so, as another reviewer said: maybe she's good for US returns but not so much for international and complicated company returns, like mine. I give the benefit of the doubt, but that doesn't take away how bad my experience was.

To be clear, she did provide me a downloadable document last month, but I did not have access to a printer. She locked me out of her system and refuses to provide copies for 3 returns she finished last month. I just want to be done with this office and would be if they sent me my 3 returns, but instead they have chosen to be spiteful. I have literally paid them $2500 and am walking away with 2 returns. I explained that I don't want to take this further and just want my returns that I paid for, but her office wrote: Your request has been reviewed.  Since all the paperwork (returns, etc.) and status have already been provided to you, and as you have been terminated as a client, your request is denied. Not having a printer does not mean you did not receive the tax returns.  Apparently you lost or deleted them in error, especially since you confirmed receipt of them and advised Abby that you were reviewing them. As your case has been closed with this office, there is no further obligation to be involved in your case. Your subsequent tax person(s) will be responsible for assisting you. Story Tax & Financial Services has been the most phenomenal tax prep experince I have ever had in…read moreall aspects. My journey in filing my taxes has always made me feel uneasy until now. When I first began, I had my mom do my taxes with her tax preparer and I did not understand the process of how it was done and her tax preparer would process it wrong at times stating I owed money when I didn't for example. So after that frustration I decided to get help from a friend and they were not completely clear on how to do it and one does not get their highest refund. So then I finally decided to invest in a tax preparer myself last year. I choice H&R black because it was close and I wanted to go on person. I paid a high price only to leave feeling confused about how my taxes was processed. I did not feel comfortable to ask as many questions about what was happening on the screen because when I would, the preparer would quickly answer and then change the subject to ask me questions regarding my personal life. I left feeling like I had not understood the full process of my taxes filed, I did not get my questions answered concerning my other taxes, and I was not taught how to navigate the profile that I had online despite it was in person. Now coming to Story Tax was such a different experince. I was hesitant at first because it was not close and the service was not in person but it was the best choice I made. I left feeling like I understood how my taxes was processed, all my questions was answered, I was instructed on how to use the website over a phone call, when I got out he website it was super efficient and easy to navigate (it felt like when you trying to get somewhere and you don't even have to wait for the train). On top of that I got the highest refund and the customer service from Jessica was outstanding. She is transparent, focused, professional, patient, respectful, and fantastic to work with. She is informed and knows what she is doing! Hands down, highly recommend. My loyalty is sealed!

DISAPPOINTED & Updated- 5/28/2024- Services has gone way…read moredown in last 3 years, Ms. Trudy used to be great but no longer. I got my taxes done this year 2024 and it was a horrible experience. Sent taxes in Mid March, as of April 17th I am still trying to reach her and rectify if my taxes were even done. As of today, note we are in May. I am just seeing my tax documents today 5/28 due to her not entering in the correct address information on the password protected file. It was like having your taxes held hostage. Its just frustrating after you pay someone 465.00 for tax services and they decide to also make money off my dependants as well. So that is almost another 200.00. on top of my 465.00. I get her on the phone today, she wants to talk over me and just not own up to all these mishaps or even apologize that I am still dealing with taxes and it will be June 1st 2024 on Saturday. This evening I have to reviewn my documents, Ughh my apartment # is incorrect etc. Let's be clear no one wants to stress about their tax person putting incorrect info on your returns. Taxes are already stressfull as it is. Icing on the cake, I asked her as a courtesy if she could mail out my taxes hard copy, unprofessional push back, telling me why do I need them all and I can print them etc. NO you print and send to me since nothing else coud get done correctly. As a customer I asked for a simple request especially since I cannot access 2 of the 3 files! Really? Sheeesh! Fired up! If the business has grown great, hire more people but if your nearing retirement or this is too much, hang it up. its ok. HOPEFULLY NO OTHER CLIENT WILL EXPERIENCE THIS HERE OR ANYWHERE. I am done allowing businesses to disrespect my hard earned coins. Not today. DONE!
