He wasn't afraid to take it apart and look at the damage with me when no other jewelry repair would touch it. We took out the old pearl (which was mangled beyond comprehension) and picked out a new beautiful pearl that would fit in my engagement ring. Not only did he go over every step of the process with me, but showed me some of his own original designs which had won awards which put me at ease that he knew what he was doing. He took off the gold setting where the stone was and reapplied the gold from scratch. The finished product is gorgeous beyond words. Picking a man's wedding ring is difficult. My fiancé's advice seemed simple - pick something that matches mine. Well, hers was very girly with a large stone and I couldn't find anything that I wanted to wear every day that matched. I had known Luan from the neighborhood (Del Mar) and when I shared my story he laughed along with me. When we both settled down he said, "Why don't we just design a ring for you?" Having been a creative director for more than 20 years I've worked with other creative's to develop a project, so I thought, "how much different can this be?" It started out the just like other projects I had worked on. We shared our concepts, we looked at examples of other work, and we set some requirements to make sure it ended up being what we set out to design - my wedding ring. Like many other guys on the coast, I surf. And like many other guys on the coast, I had been married before. So when I thought about this ring I thought about what marriage meant to me. I've learned that, just like the tides, there are highs and lows, and those conditions can impact how my day is going to be, but the tides, like my feelings for my wife, never ended. Just like the circle of the ring is continuous, so would be our relationship and how I felt about us. Made from silver, from the side it reads like a tide chart, showing highs and lows, with a polished rounded edge to simulate the curling waves as they flow into each other. Lüan is a true artist! He took my original engagement ring, a round solitaire set on a platinum band, and turned it into two lovely rings. I originally intended to get the solitaire re-set into some sort of 3-stone band, but Lüan showed me other inspiration photos and I fell in love with the "cushion halo" look. When Luan pulled out the box that contained my fiancé's engagement ring, before I could see the final product I had hoped that it would be perfect. After that split second and I actually saw the ring, it was 100x better than anything I could have even imagined. My fiancee and I went to ten different places in the greater San Diego area to try to find the perfect place where we would design our ring together after our recent engagement. Most were really helpful. However we wanted many years of experience and demonstrated artistic abilities. Luan has both. He is creative and skilled. He was kind and focused in guiding us through this exciting process. We started off by showing some pictures and explaining our vision for our unique and custom made ring. He listened carefully and asked the right questions. We then chose from his small but beautiful selections of stones. He allowed us to inspect all possible stones carefully under the "loopey" magnifying glass. When we found our perfect rock, Luan got to work and began to create a wax mold of the ring. Luan works beautifully, but also quickly. We checked out the mold and approved it to be sent for the final touches. Thats when he pulled out the final product from the ring box and blew both of our socks off. We couldnt be happier. Luan worked within our budget without being pushy and helped us to carve out the specific ring we wanted from the vastness of ours and his imaginations.
