I visited the Lubbock Lake Landmark because they have a couple of hiking trails, a 4 mile and a 1…read moremile. Somehow when I heard park I expected trees. But this is like a dry lakebed that is also an archaeological site and they have a neat little museum. It has fossils, indian artifacts, and displays about the past history of the area. The museum is geared more towards middle school aged children, had some neat exhibits of things they found in the landmark, wasn't all that big. There are some large bronze statues of ice age animals outside the museum that are cool. And it's free to get in too. There is a handicapped-accessible trail behind the museum that is like a slightly raised boardwalk that I assume would showcase digs, but there weren't any going on. I went in early January though and they said Spring and Summer are the best times for digs. The long trail is not handicapped-accesible, it is gravel and quite long and meandering. It went by a prairie dog burrow, but I didn't see any. Possibly because some other people aead of us were hiking with several dogs. Dogs are not allowed there according to the parking lot sign. There are some picnic areas near the museum that are nice, and I spotted about 10 different bird species including 3 different types of raptors and some coyote tracks. It would probably be nicer to go here in the spring because I saw remains of many different flowering plants and it would be a more attractive walk then.

I came here for the first time this past weekend to finally sign up for my library card. I'm…read moreimpressed, even surprised, by the quality of this library for it being in Lubbock. Also, this location was my only choice because it's the only branch open Sundays. The collection is entirely on the main floor. When you come in, fiction is mostly to the left and through the center, children's in the back left corner, non-fiction center back, and a huge section for genealogy research in the back right corner. In the front right side and corner is a computer area open to all visitors - it seems like a first come first served situation. There's also an armed police officer who seems to be always on duty here at a desk near the front. It's actually my first time seeing this in a library, and I come from a much larger city. Staff was helpful in getting me signed up. Probably the greatest benefit is in being able to join the Libby app for ebooks and audiobooks. But nothing will beat the brick and mortar library for things like graphic novels and a nice focused place to study.

For a growing city, I think they should be expanding their stock of books, but you can generally find a book or two on your topic of interest.

On the main floor theres a help desk where the workers are very knowledgable and are always willing to help you or direct you where you need to go. If you're not comfortable studying or being around people, they have study rooms available that you can book online through the TTU website. The parking lot is HUGE so unless it's finals time, you'll always find a spot. There's a little cafe to the right when you first walk in, but it is only open during certain hours. It has a lot of different things to choose from. The library also offers free wifi and WEPA printing.

Amazing set of stacks, a 3D Design lab with gaming software, and the whole downstairs (main floor) has been redone since I came in 2008 with projection screens and collaborative pods for group work. It is a dream come true for group projects! Really great use of its funding. Thanks Mike Leach! And others. Illiad always got my article requests quickly and correctly. Often has in-progress work presentations, like poster sessions, for undergraduate and graduate research. Lots of tables for working, little cubbies for privacy, and good wooden chairs that you can sit in for hours without getting sore! :) Love this library and I probably spent 50% of my 5 years of PhD work in its halls.

This is a small library right off the highway in Wolfforth that perfectly serves the small town…read morecommunity right outside Lubbock. They especially cater to young children. You can often see groups of them here along with parents doing storytime and other activities. It is, therefore, not usually quiet here as the building is also quite small. There's also a huge selection of mostly fiction, a smattering of nonfiction, DVDs, and a waning collection of audiobooks on CDs. Unfortunately there is not a music collection. You can also access a digital library on the Libby app with your membership here. Through there you can find even more audiobooks in particular. There are computers with internet access and limited seating for reading or study. They are always clean and organized. There's a community info board in the lobby, a "free stuff" box, small selection of books for sale for a quarter each, and some library themed things for sale too. Staff always does a good job of displaying monthly themed material. Recently they put up a display of banned books - how edgy! Check the calendar of events for the occasional movie nights and more.

It may not seem like much to y'all, but I am grateful that anyone bothers erecting anything in honor of an artist.
