Please avoid his clinic, unless you are willing to accept sub, par care and billing practices. I was referred to Dr. Lucas for Invisalign treatment by a friend. I saw her on Monday and was able to get in for x-rays and initial images by Wednesday. Within 48 hours of having the initial work up done I ended up having an emergency root canal. Dr. Lucas failed to inform me that she could see that I had a problem with my front tooth -- you could clearly see it via a shadow in the x-rays. She said because I hadn't complained about the tooth she's didn't ask me about it - not bothering to ask about something visible is poor dental practice. Also, dentist also saw me in person like she had promised to ensure everything was good before the Invisalign trays were ordered. Under no circumstances did my dentist or endodontist advise continuing with Invisalign. Dr. Lucas clearly should have caught this issue but instead was quick to take my money. I was asked to pay $400 for x-rays and was told that I would be reimbursed any amount of money that the insurance paid out. After reaching out to the clinic on three occasions without any response, I can conclude that this office has double dipped, charging me and billing my dental insurance plan. There are so many choices of Invisalign providers and dentists. I would strongly recommend doing your research and possibly looking elsewhere before making an investment to get dental work done with this clinic. read more

I just called Dr. Lucas's office because i'm having a problem with my tooth and my working schedule is not so easy and Dr. Lucas just got on the phone with me and i explained what my problem was and she was able to schedule me in to see what's wrong and made it work with my crazy schedule. I really love my dentist. She is nice and friendly (as are the rest of the staff!). She gets the job done and tries to not make my gums bleed too much! ;) They use bubblegum flavored gloves! And you can pick your flavor of toothpaste! My favorite thing is theat they send you text message reminders for your appointment and you can confirm by sending a text back! So easy! I went to Robin Lucas' Dental office in Hoboken, NJ and unfortunately, I can not leave a positive review. I had 2 filings done at the end of April 2014 and I still feel discomfort when chewing on that side of my mouth. I did a follow up on the pain shortly after and he did some adjustments, but it is now 7/24 and I still feel discomfort. My insurance changed and I needed to change dental offices and they actually charge a $15 fee to transfer your records. I just wanted to update my review. I'm glad I had changed dentists because it took them more than 2 weeks to email me my dental records. The lack of urgency (2 weeks to email them to me) is astounding. Yeah, they're a great all-around dental office. I've only had cleanings, x-rays, and routine stuff. I just had a mouth guard made though and they were really gentle and friendly even while sticking a wad of clay in my mouth. They even rolled with the punches when I did my little miss crankypants routine and was ready to get up and walk out; she changed it up from this grinding screeching evil little instrument of torture and did it by hand instead for me. Plus you get a flavor menu for your toothpaste, and a goodie bag when you're done. It could only be better if they had a toychest for you to choose from... those were the days. read more

Hands down the best dentist I've ever visited. Dr. Lucas and her fleet of hygienists are all gentle, knowledgeable, and have good bedside manner. As a new patient, you can download their forms from their website and fill them out before you arrive. They also send you email reminders of when you're next appointment will be, which I found helpful. I was Dr. Lucas' patient for 3 years before moving out of Hoboken and never had issues with scheduling an appointment for when it was convenient for me, even if I needed to schedule an emergency appointment. Taking my rating down from 2 to 1. Please, make sure you avoid this practice. They put in a crown less than 3 years ago. It broke recently (due to the crown quality, as confirmed by my new dentist). Additionally, several teeth that they put fillings in had to be redone in the past year as well. This is poor quality work on top of poor patient service. My insurance only covers crowns every 5 years, so now I have to pay a big amount out of pocket to replace it, which I paid a lot for in the first place. My advice - look around and spend your money elsewhere, my new dentist offers 7 year warranty on crowns for example, whereas Lucas Dental only provides 1 year on their work, so I guess that just shows their level of confidence in their own work. read more

I am thrilled that I have finally found a dentist office in Hoboken that I enjoy and works with my insurance. I have had good experiences with them so far. I've been 4 times. 2 cleanings, 1 emergency when my crown broke and 1 time for fillings. The staff is friendly and they are not super pushy which is a problem I've had in the past with other offices. They make really easy to book and remember your appointment they have a text and email service that reminds you and makes it easy to reschedule if you need to. The only reason I'm not giving this a 5 is the office is not as private as some of the other offices I've been too in Hoboken. Your in a big room where they have big dividers but it still feels really open and others walk past you as they work on you. read more

The reviews that I have seen are all patient/client based. As an individual seeking an opportunity within the healthcare field; I have to say I am extremely disappointed with the way my interview process was handled. Dr. Lucas and her office manager Meliza were very sweet and professional, yes. However, as a team operating with the core values of compassion, diligence, and elite customer service it seems that these are values only practiced for their "patients" and not to the general public including their prospective candidates. In brief, I was interviewed with Dr. Robin Lucas and with her office manager present during the interview. I made an impression and was asked to return to a second interview with what she called a completed "homework" assignment to be submitted on that second visit. The "homework" assignment included an IQ test, an aptitude test along with some simple math questions. In total, roughly about 300+ questions. On the second interview arriving 15 minutes early I submitted the requested assignment. I was given a brief demonstration of their software and some elements of the job duties. I was told once the test results returned I would be scheduled for a work interview. I must add I am already working a full-time job which she was fully aware as I kindly disclosed this to her along with my interest in the positions available. Shortly after a few days I was contacted by the office manager Meliza stating that the Dr is interested in scheduling me for a work interview (paid). I agreed, however since it was not a guarantee offer of the position I had to be considerate to my current employer and work around my available hours. Meliza agreed and explains dress code. I spend money shopping for clothes to meet the dress code as requested. I then was contacted and Meliza stated that she would need to reschedule my work interview before the end of the week. A week goes by no call. I figured they must be very busy and I am a very understanding person, but, I decide to contact Meliza for a status. She places me on hold and says she will get back to me and takes my number "again" after already having my information for weeks. Well, its been a little over a week and not even a courtesy call explaining the obvious. It could have been anything, a more qualified candidate, a more flexible candidate, etc., whatever the reason - it is only right that I receive the same respect that I gave as a candidate not only interested in a position but also interested in their services. I spent time into the "homework" assignment (unpaid time), as well as shopping for clothes that I now have to return if I even find the time to do so. This behavior shows no compassion or consideration to an individual as it stands. If it is not to their best interest - a courtesy will not be extended. Sincerely, CYO P.S. I have been going to Dr Lucas for (I think) 20 years. I have found her and her staff to be great. I can especially testify to how great Dr Lucas has been for me over the years. I have always felt I was being taken care of under her care. Recently she noticed a problem with a tooth that had a cap on it and sent me to a periodontist to see if the tooth could be saved (it couldn't ) and she followed up with both myself and the periodontist. I have to concur with many of the other reviews in the following areas: 1) The hygienists are great and friendly and caring 2) Dental care itself has been good 3) Front desk...never seems to get my bill right and always blames the insurance company. On my first visit years ago, I was given a 2K estimate for the work I needed to get done (a couple of crowns, a root canal). However when the work was all finally done it cost twice as much because a) Dr. Lucas prices didn't match on the estimate and the bill and b) the estimate of my copay was much higher than the insurance company paid 4) SICK AND TIRED OF THE UPSELLING. Gross. I Don't go to the dentist to have someone who isn't trained in nutrition lecture me on my diet...when they haven't even bothered to ask me about my diet. As others have mentioned, this is the best dental office that I have ever visited. Have never had to wait, and the staff (especially the receptionists) are extremely friendly. The hygienists are diligent and my mouth always feels great after I leave. The equipment in the office is modern, clean, and efficient. No one likes going to the dentist, but at Dr. Lucas's office, it's as enjoyable as it could possibly be. Show up early for your appointment if you want to be seen early - they almost always see to you right away. Another nice thing about the office is weeknight cleanings (once a week I believe), and half-day Saturday cleanings. I know from experience that those two time slots are the most popular, so book well ahead of time if that is what you're looking for. read more

Nightmare. Came here for check-up. My dentist (he's no longer working there) was nice and pleasant. Needed a few cavities filled. Came back in a week. Had some work done, and went home with a temporary crown. When the numbness wore off, I was in so much pain, I could not function without Motrin every few hours. Something was definitely done incorrectly. Went back to get the permanent crown put on. This time I saw Dr. Lucas. (Not sure why they scheduled me with her when I wasn't even her patient.) Anyway- I explain to her that have been in serious pain since my last visit. Despite this, she proceeds to work on the tooth without novocaine. I nearly jumped out of my seat from the pain when the temp crown was removed. Her response when she sees me jump and gasp for air? An unaffected, "Yeah, that can be a little shocking." Then she proceeded to glue on the new crown without novocaine. It felt like an electric shock, and I was sweating from the pain at this point. She is unimpressed and tells me, "It will subside in a few minutes." and tells me to BITE DOWN on it on as hard as I can so it attaches properly. When it was all over, she brought me Ibuprofen for the pain! My head was pounding so hard I wondered if I would be able to get home by myself. Did she just not want to spend the money on novocaine and opted to cause intense pain instead?? THEN she proceeds to tell me that I have a cavity in every single wisdom tooth and that I should just get them all taken out, because it would be easier than filing them all. She gets a mirror and proceeds to point out the (supposed) cavities in all 4 wisdom teeth to drive the point home. At my next visit, I make sure that I am seen by the other dentist NOT Dr.Lucas again. He tells me that I have NO CAVITIES in my wisdom teeth!! She apparently lied to me to try to get me to have my teeth pulled which is just evil! He fills another cavity at this appointment. After I leave, I am again in a lot of pain but I give it a few days to allow some time to heal. It gets worse and worse until my mouth becomes so sensitive that I can't even drink room temp water without immense pain. I finally called the office to try to get some help, but apparently their phones were out of service for a few days?? After a few days of trying to call and email, Dr. Lucas calls me back. She says that my pain can not be from the work they did because if it was, "It would have starting hurting right away," when the only logical explanation was that it was DEFINITELY from the work they just did. Needless to say, I ended up needing an emergency root canal on the exact tooth that they had just worked on. Whatever work was done, was AGAIN done incorrectly and resulted in the tooth "dying" according to the endodontist that helped me. I did not go back to Lucas Dental for the root canal, or ever again. I went to an endodontist, Dr. Graham on Washington Street, who was beyond amazing and squeezed me in for an emergency appointment. read more

I recently moved to Hoboken and needed to find a new dentist. I found Lucas Dental Associates, and am so glad that I did!! I called on a Friday, and they were able to make an appointment for me to have a routine exam, xrays and cleaning on the following Monday. They had forms online that I was able to complete at home and bring with me - saving me some time in their waiting room. When I arrived for my exam, I was greeted by the very friendly and welcoming front office staff. They were professional and thorough in explaining my insurance benefits and ensuring I had completed all of the forms. I had a very short wait (maybe 3 minutes) before the hygienist came to get me. She introduced herself and took me back to her work area where I had a complete set of xrays and photographs of my teeth. She took the time to discuss the xrays with me, showing me where the tooth roots were in relation to the bone and the enamel on my teeth. We discussed my medical history and my oral care routine. She cleaned my teeth and even identified a trouble spot that was uncovered during the cleaning. She took another photo of the tooth in question and showed me what she was concerned about. When the dentist came in to do the exam, she pointed it out to him. The dentist was very quick, matter-of-fact, and to-the-point. He agreed that the trouble area needed a filling. The hygienist finished up and made my next appointment. The front office staff processed my payment and scheduled an appointment for later that afternoon for the filling. They were very accommodating and efficient. My appointment later that afternoon for the filling was, again, quick and relatively painless. The doctor was efficient and the dental assistant was a joy. (She held my hand while I got the Novocain shot and made sure that I felt at ease as best as possible.) This was by far one of the top dental experiences I've had! read more

If you're looking for a stereotypical "scam" dentist, look no further. I went to Lucas Dental once - confirmed all of the billing up front - and upon my checkup has many other issues found. Expensive issues. This was shocking since I have never had any major dental issues - not even wisdom teeth pulled! I went for a second opinion where my new dentist (of 4 yrs) laughed at their recommendations. The cherry on top is now I have a collections agency calling me for a bill I was never made aware of for $80.... from 4 yrs ago! Starting from x-rays and a whole major project with a team of specialists. I needed implants, bridgework, bone grafts.... It took us approximately 2.5 years and finally we are done. I am very happy and content with everything. I can' t say enough. She has a wonderful chair side bedside manner and an incredible attitude. So giving and pleasant ,and understanding and always going out of her way to help. The staff is fantastic, hands -on and professional. I see a lot of complaints about up-selling on here. It's true that they do try to get you to agree to additional services (for example, an oral cancer exam) but the ones they offered me were a) not that expensive (about $20 each) and b) could be declined. As soon as I signed in with the receptionist, she described these extra services and I signed that I was declining. That was the end of the story. They didn't push me or make me feel uncomfortable. Overall, it was a great experience (or as great as a visit to the dentist can be). I went for a routine check up. They took my x-rays and were very careful and gentle about it (I hate those plastic things you have to bite down on). Then the dentist talked to me about my concerns (gum recession and tooth sensitivity). Then the hygienist did my cleaning and was very thorough (and apologetic whenever I winced). As someone who had an irrational fear of the dentist for quite some time, this place is my life saver!! They are absolutely amazing. The staff is so helpful and friendly, and Dr. Lucas is nothing short of the best. She is so knowledgeable, friendly, compassionate and explains everything so well which sets me at ease. Went there with my wife twice on a Saturday - cannot attest to what happens during the week, but DO NOT go there on Saturdays. Some apparently badly trained staff works like in a factory on the "patients" no personal treatment, all they are interested in is getting your xrays ($$$) and to get you out again. That would almost be acceptable if the service like cleaning and filling etc. would be good, but sadly its not. The doctor working there on Saturdays is careless and not very good. My wife had to pick a fight with her after a filling until she (the doctor) actually agreed to remove the remains sticking to her teeth appropriately. The cleaning was also terrible. I was bleeding like a pig (which never happened to me before). After a week or so staining started all around in our mouths. Awful, we went to another doctor who said that he hasn't seen such uneven and riffled teeth in a while. They could thank god correct it. Lucas & Co only want your insurance card and your money that's all they care about, never go there again. read more

I'm hoping I just caught everyone on a bad day, because my experience was that bad. My insurance changed, which prompted me to look for a new dentist in Hoboken. I read great reviews about Lucas Dental and thought I would give them a shot. Here is what happened: 1. Booking an appointment was easy. I did so over ZocDoc. However, the following day I received a call saying they weren't available during the time I selected and I had to reschedule. No problem. 2. Since I was a new patient, I downloaded all the new patient forms on their website, filled them out, and dropped them off at the office a few days before my appointment. I did this to speed up the process on the day of. In addition, I had my previous dentist send me my most recent X-Rays, which I then e-mailed to Lucas Dental. 3. On the morning of my rescheduled appointment, I received a call asking if I could come in at Noon instead of 1PM. Luckily, I work in Hoboken and was flexible enough to do so. I was only going in for a cleaning, which I assumed would be done over my lunch break. 4. I arrive at the dental office at 11:53, which was 7 minutes before my appointment, only to find the door is locked. At this point, I am super confused. They literally called me two hours prior to request that I come in at Noon, so I don't understand why no one is there ~5 minutes before my appointment. 5. A few minutes after 12, I see a bunch of ladies strolling down the street, lunch in hand, chatting away. They finally get to the door, and laugh it off, with a very insincere apology for being late. 6. The whole check in process was very scattered and unorganized, because no one is prepared to see a patient. In addition, I have no clue who anyone is. It was my first time there, which they mentioned, but no body felt the need to introduce themselves (which meant I had no clue who the receptionist, dentist, or hygienist was.. and everyone was all over the place, fumbling around trying to get back from lunch) 7. I tell (who I assume) is the receptionist that I e-mailed over some X-Rays, which she claims she cannot find. I double check by outbox on my e-mail, and sure enough, it sent. She asks me to send it again, and we go back and forth a few times. Eventually she questions my spelling and just gives up, saying "if you really want your dentist to see them, I guess you can show her on your phone". ARE YOU KIDDING? Obviously I want my dentist to see my X-Rays! 8. Finally I'm called to go back to a room, but by the time I stand up, no one is to be found. I have to ask the receptionist where to go. She points. 9. The room looked like a closet with old, outdated equipment. It appeared dirty, and there was no place to put coats/purses, etc. I had to put all my things on the floor. 10. It's around 12:15 by the time someone comes in to start my cleaning. I have no clue who this person is, as she never told me her name or asked me anything about my history/concerns. Immediately, she starts attempting to take x-rays. What really irritated me was she never told me what kind of x-rays she was taking... she ended up taking 18! I have NEVER needed that many x-rays in my 27 years of going to a dentist. What made it worse, she didn't know how to use the x-ray machine.. so it took FOREVER. She had to keep calling people into the room to help her. It was so painful and just felt very wrong. 11. It's now 12:30, and my cleaning hasn't even started yet. 12. Eventually, another woman comes in (no idea who, as she never told me) and I assume she is a dentist. Right away, she goes to start working on my teeth. No introduction. No conversation. No questions about my dental history, nothing. Naturally, I stop her and tell her I would like to discuss my dental history, show her my x-rays, etc. since i am a new patient. (note: At this point, I'm just pissed.). She gives me a rude look and agrees to talk about my history. I explain some of the more critical things she needs to know about previous emergency dental work I've had, and she responds "oh, well, that's not that bad" and gives me a smug look. At this point, I should have just stood up and walked out. 13. She does my cleaning, is SUPER rough, makes me bleed, & talks to the hygienist about their personal lives the entire time. At one point, she literally taps on my face to make me move my head. 14. The dentist starts rattling off some random notes to the hygienist before looking at me and saying "ok, ill see you in a few weeks so I can fill 2 cavities" and stands up to leave! She never pointed anything out or told me what was happening.. she just assumed I would take her word for it and come in to get cavities filled. She references the crappy X-rays that the other lady took (which I obviously don't trust since she had to retake so many of them). I will likely go someplace else for a 2nd opinion. The "cleaning" took over an hour. Tips: Work on customer service, educate employees & at least pretend to care about your patient. read more

I had gone to them for a few years, and the first time they made a mistake I gave them a pass. They had put a cap in place which fell out the following weekend, and with no appointments until Monday afternoon I spent two days without a front tooth and painful sensitivity. Second mistake was a botched cavity filling. They had no contact between the teeth and left ridges which continually caused food to get stuck and increased risk for future cavities. In addition, they tried to up-sale me on cosmetic procedures every time I went for any basic service. I will not go back there. read more

I went to Lucas Dental Associates for the first time yesterday and saw Dr. Sherry. She is AMAZING!!! I recently had a couple fillings placed by a dentist in Manhattan and had subsequent pain for 8 months. Saw that dentist again but still had the pain so I wanted a second opinion. Went to Dr. Sherry and she reviewed my case, got updated xrays, did a careful examination, and replaced the problem filling. I am so far totally pain free. She seems appropriately conservative (something I want in a dentist for sure) and explained the things she was seeing very clearly to me. I recommend her thoroughly. read more

So this is my breakdown of this dental office. I have been going there for the last 3.5 years, i got every 6 months for cleaning and have had a few things done other than cleaning. I LOVE their hygienists, they are so sweet and so patient, they all seem to love what they do and actually care. If i had to rate the hygienists alone, they would get 5 stars for sure!!! The staff at the front desk is very friendly, however, they miss stuff. Three times I had things missed, whether they forget to submit paperwork, call you back, and give you things you have asked for well in advance. If i had to rate them, i would say 2-3 stars at most. There are a few dentists there, most of the time there is only 2, but if one is on leave or on vacation another dentists fills in. They are all very nice, sweet and knowledgeable. However, the few times i have dealt with Dr. Lucas herself, I did not like her approach at all. She once told me that I had to get my tooth pulled and the only option i had was to get an implant. I was so upset because I had no idea my tooth was that bad, no one had ever mentioned it to me before and it didn't hurt. I told her that I wanted to think about it and come back because i was very upset. She didn't even try to make me feel better, she just kept making me feel bad about about it, saying things like "well you should have been more careful with your teeth, you should have flossed more, you should have ...". Few days later, after talking to my husband he suggested I go back and see if there is ANYTHING else i can do to save it. The next time i went Dr. Lucas was not in the office and I got Dr. Sheri and she told me the tooth could be saved absolutely, there was not a need to pull it at all. She recommended I get it treated and replace the cap, which is less work and less expensive, which is exactly what i did. That was 3 years ago, and I haven' t had a problem with that tooth since. I felt like Dr. Lucas was a used car salesman, trying to up sell me. Didn't appreciate that. Since then, every time I have to see a doctor I call in advance and make sure that someone OTHER than Dr. Lucas is there. So over all I am rating the office a 3.5 (can't do half star). Depending on what your needs are and who you end up seeing, it could be a pleasant experience or downright awful. read more
