I needed to buy socks last weekend. Instead? I bought a shadow boxed taxidermy foot long beetle and a smaller pinned butterfly. If you're at all sketched: signage claimed they source their taxidermy insects ethically. When I asked what that meant, the proprietor said the butterflies, moths &c die naturally, float gently to the rain forest floor and "are only then taken from their habitat." #westcoast It's the perfect place for accent pieces and even framed wall art is very reasonable (my two framed pieces were like $95). The many, many paper mache animal heads ranged between $60 and $150. The only real problem is that (even for Ballard on a Saturday), the place is really narrow and crowded - given that prices aren't posted, it ups the chaos factor quite a bit. If your decorating style is like mine (midcentury modern creepy classroom? bordello with phrenology charts? lush atomic ranch with taxidermy?) this place is heaven. And that hippopotamus sculpture is mine. read more

I wish I had known about Lucca when I was still Christmas shopping! It has so many wondrous little items that would have been perfect for the people on my list. For myself, I coveted a little compass with a multi-year calendar on the back - clever and classic! - and ALL the soaps. All of them. I echo another Yelper here who noted a month ago how unfriendly the staff was. We came in today and were the only people in the store and were largely ignored and brushed off. Every time I visit Seattle, I try to fit in a visit to Lucca. My thinking starts out, "I just want to see what wonderful new things have arrived", but I invariably progress to purchasing a number of irresistible treasures for myself or friends. Have always found the staff/owner to be delightful and helpful. (Hey, Kate K., rather than posting a damning rating against your favorite store, why don't you talk to the owner and help to solve the issue?! I've always been impressed by Lucca's customer service -- and of course, the ownership wants only the best for their clients. The store also has to be vigilant about theft -- that's just a sad fact of life.) Re price: some things strike me as total bargains; majority reasonable; a few are more than I want to pay for a gift. Lucca is a great place to find a gift - their unique offerings are constantly evolving in this wonderfully curated shop. I go here mainly for the cards. They have their own room at the back of this small store where you'll find cards, books and other paper goods. The cards are unlike any you'll find elsewhere. If you are looking for a place in Ballard where you can get a thoughtful gift and card, this is the place. read more

Lucca seems to carry every brand of jewelry that I stalk on FB and IG but are too chicken to purchase. This way I can see the products first hand! It's full of knicknacks, stationery (including MT Washi tape), writing implements, housewares, pins, and patches, etc. Their price points are a bit better than other stores along that street that might carry the same item. I really need to visit Ballard more often. read more

I heart Lucca! I bought some really neat & affordable shells & starfish here to decorate the tables for our wedding. Lots of great gift ideas, home decor, holiday decorating items, beautiful wrapping paper, stationary, and so much more... All of the Valentine's Day decor is precious! They also have a tree growing in the middle of the store and have beautiful antique chandeliers overhead, how fabulous is that?! If I could only shop at one boutique or ever own a boutique, this would be The One! read more

I was in here for WAAAYYYY too long. There's so much in this store that you really have to take your time or you'll miss something. I loved that there seemed to be something for every one. Prices ranged from low to expensive but everything fairly reasonable. I am obsessed with stationary and cards also which made this place even better as they have an entire room full of these. My go-to shop for unique gifts for the loved ones in my life and treats for myself. I absolutely adore everything about this shop. They carry the amazing Mariage Freres teas and have a lot of other treats (soaps, lotions, etc...) from France if you're a Francophile. You can count on Lucca to find a beautiful card that expresses what you're feeling just so. Everything is a treasure, here are so many beautiful things in the paperie or the random jewelry you didn't even realize you had to have in your life. You can smell the place 3 feet before you enter the closed door and it smells great. The candles and lotions really are divine. Unfortunately, my taste runs more towards Asian and modern so there was plenty of stuff I thought was beautiful and tasteful but not something I'd buy for myself. And I just don't like chandeliers, especially with lots of crystals and gewgaws. If you do though, this would be a great place to get them. Lots of sparkles and tradition. read more

I had walked by this store many times while in Ballard and just happened to stop in the other day and I was so happy I did. This place is totally up my alley with strange and interesting trinkets and finds all over the place, it's hard to focus on one thing! They have many items that are very reasonably priced and they also have many gift ideas for the picky person in your life. They have a cute little patio area out back with some items to buy. The stationery and jewelry selections were calling to me, but also some interesting bottle openers and soaps caught my attention too. I was unfortunately in a bit of a hurry that day, so all I bought was a set of small soapstone whiskey rocks for my boyfriend (they also had larger whiskey rocks available but I wanted to try the small ones out first). I will definitely be back to see what other treasures I can find for myself and others. The staff were also very nice and informative. read more

Lucca is one of the best stores I've stumbled upon in Ballard. I was drawn to the window display and was pleasantly surprised to find an array of quirky, outdoorsy products. There is something there for everyone and all ages. In the back, there is a room full of cards and prints which was pretty neat. Lucca is a beautiful apothecary style shop that feels like something from a story book and is the closest that you'll get to finding Diagon Alley in Seattle. They offer an eclectic mix of stationary, specialty toilet trees, vintage inspired decor, kid's toys, unique sheets of wrapping paper, loose leaf teas, and you can even buy Palomino Blackwing pencils and German map fountain pens individually! This would be a great place to shop for stocking stuffers or any other special occasion gifts. read more

Love the window displays, well curated selection, great for interior designers and wannabees. Prices are reasonable, has more of a NY/PDX vibe and selection than most Seattle boutiques (not the staff, the selection and merchandising)...faux taxidermy, handmade birds nests and eggs, gorgeous inexpensive wallpapers and postcards, yummy boutique fragrances, etc...a great Sunday for me is the Ballard Sunday Market, a delicious macchiato at Cugini, Fiore or Aster (I love you, Ballard), and some browsing at Lucca and some of the other area shops followed by a trip to the Locks or Golden Gardens. A day of total eye candy, creative inspiration to inform my paintings, photography, terrariums...and great people-watchin' and socializing. C'est magnifique! read more

I buy Lemongrass soaps here, the soaps never loose their smell, not even when there is a sliver left. It's such a pretty shop with cool unusual gifts, I love just looking around! They also have really great same sex greeting cards! read more

Sorry Lucca- you get only one star, because your employees have the personalities of dead sea slugs. Don't get me wrong the store itself is great, there are alot of wonderful gifts and beautiful pieces of art, but I have to say after going there several times and thinking maybe each time it would get better, I will no longer go back. The woman working there was so rude to my mother and I, I was going to make a purchase but then I thought, "why would I want to give my money to a place that can't even acknowledge you are a human being when you walk through the door and then proceeds to make a very rude comment on how the price was probably not low enough for us". What the hell? Maybe they are spending too much time with those fake black crows. read more

I just stopped into Lucca yesterday and picked up some great xmas presents. They have some really sweet snowglobe type ornaments, as well as a nice selection of candles, my favorite bath soap line, and some new items including a spray that makes your house smell like a forest. Another great place in Ballard! It satisfies your every lustful need for little every day items like the perfect sharpener or a shimmery glittery card for a Sunday birthday brunch date. If they still have it, try out their chocolate black tea in the square blue tin. Chocolate tea!! Yum! I even found some cute sun glasses that are a back up pair to my most fabulous favorite ones from Market Optical. I think this is my favorite store in Ballard. If you want to find a gift for somebody, this should be your first stop. Old timey and wonderful smelling toiletries, pillows, whiskey stones, wrapping paper, plants, books, little toys... it's just a shop of wonders. This is easily one of my favorite places to buy gifts - gifts that are definitely on the more expensive side, but they are pretty unique. The shop has an incredible eye for detail and they certainly understand the art of gift giving. If you're able to, go out through the back door and just enjoy the experience of their back patio. It's an adorably whimsical place and I really enjoy looking around, even one days I decide not to buy anything. read more

I just walked in hoping to purchase one of the tiny mouse ornaments on one of their tree displays. They had none in the store for me to buy and refused to sell one of the SEVERAL that were on the tree.
