We got takeout. My husband got the Burrito del Ray dinner and he said it tastes good. A beef burrito with cheese and red sauce. Topped with pico, beans and cheese, sour cream, and rice. I got the Pollo la Marina dinner which is chicken and shrimp with mixed (grilled) vegetables and white rice. The rice has small squares of carrots and some green peas mixed in it. It is Flavorless and pasty. The vegetables have the consistency of being boiled instead of grilled. Again, Flavorless. The chicken and shrimp are covered in some kind of odd looking grayish-brown sauce that tastes like gravy you would put on mashed potatoes. It is not visually appealing and the taste is not complimentary to this dish! I expected authentic Mexican flavors but the chicken and shrimp have none! I'm actually kind of shocked at the lack of taste in this dish! The best taste I had, sadly, was from the salsa that came with the chips on the side! I'm disappointed to say that I strongly advise against this Pollo la Marina dish unless you enjoy the weird blandness of hospital food with a side of runny gray liquid that tastes like gravy. Great service. Fresh hot chips and good salsa. Food came out magically fast. Interesting menu with numerous items that had Hawaiian themes. Now to the food. Grilled chicken chimichanga is off menu but OK. If your brain is thinking traditional Mexican/TexMex rice you're going to get a rice pilaf. The Lucia's enchiladas was a mix of beef, chicken, and shrimp with cheese, red and green salsas with rice pilaf and grilled zucchini and broccoli. Not my favorite. Sangria was was described Merlot, Chardonnay, wine, brandy and grape juice. It tasted of grape juice only. Maybe I spent too much time in Texas and Arizona. But try somewhere else. read more

Ordered my "go to" when trying a new Mexican restaurant, fajitas with rice and beans. All of it was good. I really liked the beans. They tasted a little different than most most Mexican restaurants, but in a good way. I added jalapeños to the fajitas. The veggies were sautéed well and the meat was tender and juicy. Attended the Cruise-in at the square 8/07/21, the four of us decided on Lucia's for dinner. Even though they were very crowded we were seated immediately and were served chips and delicious salsa. I ordered the Fajita nachos with a side of grilled jalapenos. When the food came I had no side order so I asked the waitress about them, no problem! In a few minutes out came a side order of grilled peppers. I didn't know the cook added the peppers to my entree but was so good I couldn't complain. We tried this location for the first time. We were very happy with the service and food. We came with some friends and family and everyone left happy. The building has a nice atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. It's on the square so you get that small town vibe as you people watch sitting outside. The food was amazing. Also, received ground beef rather than the shredded beef that I ordered -- and it was way over seasoned. Tacos had no tomatoes, just ground beef, some cheese, and lots of shredded lettuce. People of Athens: go here! By far the best Mexican restaurant you've ever had. I'm an Athens native who now lives outside of Atlanta, a mecca for delicious Mexican restaurants. I'm picky about Mexican food: Rosie's is my guilty pleasure, I have a strong preference for authentic Mexican food over what we typically see in Athens Mexican restaurants, and I'd rather drink water than a margarita made from a pre-bottled mix. Given that, combined with my experiences at every other Athens Mexican restaurant since that one opened out on Hwy 72 back in the mid-90s, my expectations for Lucia's were quite low! However, my husband and I were most pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and beverages when we ate there last night. The shredded beef enchiladas rivaled any Mexican beef dish we've had in Atlanta. I got the "catrinas," which I'm pretty sure is a made up word, but turned out to be some delicious close-to-authentic chicken tacos with plenty of cilantro and filling. The cheese dip & salsa were great. Our service was excellent. In fact, I hated the first margarita I ordered because I didn't realize they were using gross grapefruit soda as a mixer instead of grapefruit juice, and though I offered to pay for it since it was my fault, our server didn't charge us for it and brought me a nice Dos Equis in a frosty mug instead. I thought my husband's house margarita was quite nice, but he felt it was too sweet. The prices were reasonable and we overall had a fantastic experience. Worth a visit! read more

I visited this restaurant at 9:30 pm on a Friday night. They greeted me immediately and seated me right away. All of the staff were smiling, helpful and courteous. I requested a dish that was only listed on the lunch menu and they agreed to prepare it for me anyway. My order came out really quick and everything was hot, delicious and prepared well. I had the Hawaiian Chicken Fajitas, and my special order of Chili Rellenos, and a side of Guacamole. Everything was very fresh and the wait staff was very attentive. The food portions were generous.
