I have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past. Hubs and I decided to go there and see how it was doing. We went May 2020 and the to go order back then had no taste/seasonings. We placed our to go orders in the bar as the restaurant was busy. We ordered chicken fajitas and chicken taco salad. The food in the to go containers was fresh and hot. I give three stars for the food. The reason for this two star review is because I watched the man at the front of the restaurant make a Michelada. He is the guy that cashes people out at the register, cleans tables and hands menus out. I didn't see any hand washing before the limes were squeezed into two large styrofoam cups. The first drink had a Bud Light instead of Mexican beer. The second cup had draft beer. He opened a new Clamato bottle so that portion of the drinks was fresh. Menus, cash and credit cards are germy. Odds are this type of behavior may be present at other restaurants. If I see this unsanitary practice, I am inclined to not want to order. It's different if I didn't see. I know we all take a chance when we go out to eat. Restaurants are supposed to follow health department guidelines. Their rating was a respectable 92. It could be an isolated instance and I will return to support this local business. 10-12 years ago the food was great. read more

Really really great lunch at El Coyote #2. First thing first, you are seated as soon as you walk in and they take your drink order. When you receive your drinks just moments after placing you are also served chips and salsa. The salsa is ok, I love the fact that they bring out bowls for everyone and a small container of salsa to pour into the individual bowls. Definitely helps if you are picky about your salsa or want to add or double dip. Chips are typically hot and fresh. The lunch menu is great, nothing above $8.00 I believe (maybe the fajitas but if you order fajitas I would suggest just getting the lunch buffet). The lunch specials are detailed and most come with shredded chicken or ground beef. The shredded chicken is typical for most mexican places, shredded some seasoning and moist. The beans are pretty good and I actually prefer the beans to the rice. The quesadilla with the cheese enchilada has been my favorite so far. The cheese sauce is thicker so it costs perfectly. A huge plus is that you can get in and out within 30/45 mins easily. Maybe quicker if you order from the buffet. They also have advertising for taco night and margarita night, however I haven't checked those out yet. There service is fast and the food is great, especially for the price. Ordered takeout. My order was for three beef tacos on soft shell, and three chicken tacos on hard shell. I also ordered chips and salsa. The person taking the order over the phone asked how my wife wanted the chicken, shredded or grilled and she said shredded. Not much of a greeting at the door, just told me how much and I paid. Only took a few minutes and I had the order and left. When I got home and opened the order I had 6 BEEF tacos, three on soft shell and 3 on hard shell. The beef was greasy and had no taste and the sauce for the chips was watery and not much taste there either. Rather than send me back and because we were hungry, we did consume the food. However, I will not recommend a restaurant that does not pay attention to detail and serves greasy, tasteless food to my friends, family or acquantices, nor will I be dining there again. read more

We stopped here on our way back to Birmingham because it was not far from highway and we were in the mood for Mexican. They had an outdoor patio and so we decided to eat here. The food was ok. I ordered fish tacos which comes with rice, beans with cheese, sour cream and guac salad mix. This was not on the menu so I was surprised when it was brought to the table. I had asked for no cheese on my meal, so when this came out asked them to remove the sour cream and cheese which they did. The tacos were soft shell and standard small size. The rice was a little on the dry side.They brought chips and salsa to the table while we waited for our meal and we assumed it was complimentary. We also ordered some sodas which they promptly refilled when it was barely past half empty. Which we also thought was great.. Little did we know that this was all being added to our bill, even though we never asked for either (chips or refills)! We were really surprised by how much the bill amounted to, especially for a hole in the wall. When we asked the host to break down the charges, not only were we charged for what I mentioned above but also an 18% gratuity charge was added without our consent (it was not mentioned anywhere in the store/menu). We were able to argue that off but the bill was still higher than I normally pay at other (better tasting) Mexican joints. TLDR: Meal was just Ok but the bill was ridiculous. read more

The interior was vibrant and fun and the service was quick. The food and drinks were delicious and well worth the price although the lack of frozen margaritas was disappointing. In addition, 2/3 of the NAMRR team wished that the meals came with pico de gallo and we resorted to using the salsa from the chips to pour on our meals. There is room for improvement but despite the faults of El Coyote we overall had a good experience and would return if we were in the Bridge Street area. Upon entering, we immediately noticed the vibrant colors on the walls and chairs inside. The decorations were cartoonish and loud but fun. One of the paintings above our booth was labeled "El Borracho" (the drunk) and is best described as "the perfect art to put in your guest bathroom". I enjoyed the interior décor. The music had a nice selection of songs but was a bit too loud and also had advertisements that would play. We could see three televisions from our booth. We were promptly seated and brought copious amounts of chips and salsa. The chips were nice and thick. The salsa had good spice and smooth consistency but had a mild sour/tangy aftertaste. It wasn't bad but it was a little weird. Our drink orders were taken but then two minutes later another waiter came to take our alcohol orders again. My companion wanted to order the frozen Peach Margarita but was informed that they didn't have frozen margaritas. This was a major disappointment. She had to settle for a Peach Margarita on the rocks and I ordered the Fruit Punch Margarita on the rocks. The drinks were quickly delivered. Both margaritas were delicious and fruity. The only thing that could have been improved was the availability of frozen drinks. The menu was extensive enough that I enjoyed looking at all the options but not too extensive that I felt overwhelmed. Each item contained ample descriptions of the dish. I ordered the Burrito Coyote while my companions ordered the Quesadilla Coyote and the Burrito Real. One of my companions opened her silverware to prepare for eating and realized that the tines of her fork were extremely bent. After considerable effort, she was unable to straighten the tines but the fork was still functional. Personally, I would've eaten in fear of stabbing my gums but she appeared to have no issues. The food was delicious. It was brought out about 10 minutes after ordering and was piping hot and presented well. Both burritos were large and came with an abundance of rice and beans but no pico or guac. The quesadilla was nicely toasted and admirably thick with fillings. The Burrito Coyote was deliciously spicy and had lots of chorizo. I wish that it had more sauce because the sauce tasted really good. The Burrito Real had lots of fillings and decent flavor but needed more spice. In addition, the bottom of the burrito was a bit soggy. My companion said that she would probably not order the Burrito Real again but would definitely try other menu items. The rice and beans were very run of the mill. The Quesadilla Coyote was scrumptious and abounding with vegetables and cheese. All the meals were well worth the money due to the large amount of food. The service during the meal was good because we were able to box up our food and pay exactly when we were ready to. We would absolutely return to El Coyote if we were in the area. read more

I have been meaning to try this place for years (I live out of town) and finally did so this week. We went for lunch and glad we got there at 11 because at 11:30 about 50 to 60 people in different groups came in. It has a lunch buffet that is good and popular. My husband and I had lunch here today and what a treat! The food was the best we have eaten since leaving San Diego! Really authentic flavors. Just left this place. First off, when I walked in the girl waiter/hostess walked right by and did not even speak. Then my family was placed next to the noisy kitchen... and we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. I thought, ok it will get better. Girl waiter came to the table and placed down the chips. Didn't say anything. No greeting, no welcome. Then came back, and said, what do you want for your drinks. I work hard for my money and tip well. Service is suppose to be friendly with a smile. I noticed the next folks who walked thru the door she spoke to. So we paid for our drinks and left. Do better. For the price, you can't go wrong with the Buffet. But we've definitely had better. For cost, convenience and food choices, it's 3 out of 5 stars. If they can arrange the buffet line a little better, for easier flow, and if someone would take care and clean the dropped food, then it would be more efficient and would give better access for customers. How it's set up now, there's only one line and all of the food choices are crammed together. 3 out of 5 stars. Service: Although the restaurant was busy with the lunch crowd, our waiter was attentive. He kept our iced tea glasses full and removed our used plates. 4 out of 5 stars Parking: It was lunchtime. Finding adequate parking is brutal in some places, especially when you've got a short lunch hour. There's no need to fight for parking here. 5 out of 5 stars Decor: Very colorful paint choices. Chairs are very heavy. Nothing outstanding about this Mexican joint. Our Girl's Night Out (GNO) met here last night. I do like the patio -- cozy, fairly quiet and it's covered with ceiling fans. The staff are friendly. = They have happy hour till 5:30 featuring beer (draft and some bottled) and margaritas only. The salsa tastes like tomato paste, slightly watered down. Flavorless. Bland and not fresh. The chips, however, were warm and decent. I had the beef nachos. Ground beef, with what looked like, a meat additive, atop a couple of handfuls of chips and white melted cheese on top. It was not appealing looking, not interesting and really bland with a weird texture. I also found what was either a red rubber band or an errant skinny tomato peel (actually two) in my "beef" mixture. But, so what, I just shoved it under a chip and moved on with life. The seats are splitting and the music was too loud for our group. Sadly, it made me wish we had gone the half block up the street to Cantina Laredo. Interestingly, this place has a following. It was fairly packed for Seis (sp) de Mayo [day after Cinco de Mayo] with happy looking regulars of all ages. My group found this place delightful and the price point good, so, sadly, they will likely drag me back here. Go to the taco "bus" on Governor's drive. Or El Olmeca on 72 West for more flavorful, fresh, authentic dishes. Or Cantina Laredo. If your diet doesn't allow for flavor, try el Coyote. The bland dishes should suit you wonderfully! What a disappointment! I was really hungry and was in the mood for Mexican food. I arrived at 9:15 p.m. There's a sign on the door that says they close at 10 p.m. on Saturday nights. As I walked in the door the manager waves me off. What?! That's right, they're closed. "What do you mean," I asked. "Your sign says you're open until 10 p.m. tonight." "I know," he says, "but we closed early tonight because of the weather." "What do you mean, 'because of the weather,'" I asked incredulously. "There's no tornado. It's not a blizzard. It's just raining. So what? It's been raining in Huntsville for four months!" I looked at my watch. "It's only 9:20 and you're supposed to be open until 10!" "I know," he says sheepishly. What a wonderful eatery! The staff greeted me when I walked and quickly got me seated, and my drink order taken. The chips were fresh, but the salsa was pedestrian, adding hot sauce helped. I ordered a beef chimichanga (my regular readers know, this is my gauge of a Mexican or Tex Mex restaurant). The meal, from the chimi to the beans and rice was just delicious. Food this cheap makes me wonder about the quality. But then again I guess $4.50 for a tamale (market price=$1.50 each) and a side of rice and beans as a set entree is about right. They also misspell tamale and call it tamal- or is that a real word? I like the warm chips and salsa. Be careful when pouring the salsa into the small bowl. It sticks in the tiny carafe so much that you find yourself holding it upside down tapping the glass and then everything plops out suddenly and if you're unlucky, it'll be on the table too. I would suggest using a knife to help push the salsa on the plate. Wow, did I just talk that much about salsa? Anyhoo, if you came here for lunch, come back for happy hour and try a margarona. I started off with what was listed as a 'Large' Margacorona (more commonly called a Margarona). I was really disappointed and started to dread my food. It was basically frozen margarita mix sans Tequila with a Corona in it...super sweet and you find more alcohol content in a juice box for kids. Not to mention it was a size that usually passes for a small at most Mexican places in town. The good news?? When I asked for a beer the server looked at my full glass and asked if I didn't like it and when I said no he actually took it away and said he would take it off my bill...something that rarely happens at Mexican places in my experience. Then came the food...it did NOT disappoint!!! Huevos Rancheros was spot on. Perfect amount of spice to the sauce over the eggs. Enjoying a weekend trip to Huntsville and needed my Mexican food fix! I ordered Queso and the Pollo con Arroz (Grilled Chicken, Rice, and Queso - I ordered tortillas, too!) The portions are HUGE and the prices are LOW. My meal was $7.50 and I had a FULL styrofoam box to take back to the hotel for a second meal! The food tasted excellent and was cooked to perfection. Our server was friendly and professional. The decor is a little intense - the ugliest hand-drawn sharpie Suns you've ever seen are all along the ceiling. It may appear from the street as a hole in the wall, but El Coyote delivers great Mexican cuisine for a very reasonable price. Present are all of the typical Mexican fare from tacos to rellenos, but El Coyote offers many authentic regional dishes as well as some Americanized creations like the taco burger. The space is rather small, but outdoor seating is an option in warmer months. That said, lunch can get crowded, but you can generally be seated immediately most of the time. El Coyote offers a nice lunch buffet, but it feels somewhat limited compared to several other area spots and the space (lack thereof) tends to be an issue when dishing up. All around, a nice Mexican dining experience best enjoyed in good company. read more

This is an average Mexican restaurant as far as the menu goes (although the Hawaiian Quesadilla is pretty darn good!). Their chips and salsa is really good, not too spicy at all. I love the very tall frosted mug that they serve the draft beer in, too. The staff is always very friendly. During the week, it is not too busy and is a great location to meet friends. There is a large parking lot that they share with the other businesses in this strip style center, but be sure not to miss your turn into the lot or you'll end up at Bridge Street or the interstate...one way in and one way out! read more

We had a rocky start with the waiter spilling some drink on one of my comrades. Our drinks and food were delicious. The waiters were busy and didn't bring us water or salsa the first time we asked. First and last time here. Restaurant was typical Mexican decor, hostess was nice. Food was average not bad but nothing to write home about. Our waiter was not overly friendly and bordering on rude. I learned his name when I asked 3/4 of the experience thru because I found him to be abrupt, walking away when I was talking to him, drinks were refilled when we waited and requested, chips looked like the crumbs in a bottom of a cereal bag. I will say after I asked for his name he stepped up his game some, but honestly with amazing Mexican restaurants like Rosie's and Casa Blanca why would i come back here for sub par food and service. Staff are very rude here incl waitresses and especially the girl at the front desk. We waited 20 minutes to place our order after being seated, the last 10 min trying to flag down our waitress but she just ignored us (hard to do when within arms reach). After waiting so long we asked for more chips while ordering and we were told we would be charged for the chips. Make sure to show them the menu and point to your selection when ordering else you may get the wrong dish, luckily I speak some Spanish which helped but it still was a struggle for them. I really like this place! Great food, fantastic prices, and fun atmosphere make for an enjoyable Mexican meal. It's hidden in a little strip mall across the 255/Research Park Blvd from Bridgestreet. The decor is bright and fun. The staff is very friendly. They serve drink specials during happy hour but have great prices on pitchers of beer all the time. I've been with a group and they were able to accommodate us just fine. We were served quickly and our water glasses were always filled. The food is very tasty and the portions are huge. My husband and I often split the fajitas with plenty left over. The burritos are also substantial. You will not leave this place hungry! The chips and salsa are good and they keep coming. Overall, a very fun place. It's by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Huntsville. I've never been but my husband likes the lunch buffet they serve during the week. It's all you can eat for $7. We were in Huntsville for a day trip. Wanted Mexican on the way out of town. Found this place and it was just right.

I recently moved to the bridge street area and must walk to the local restaurants. I have to say this place is top notch. I go every Taco Thursday for the 99 cent tacos. Highest quality mexican food in town and the green margaritas out of the slushy like machine make me feel warm and fuzzy. Thankfully, Jesus will cut me off if I have to many so I can walk back to my sister's apartment without incident. read more

I am here on business and the location was across from my hotel, so I said what the heck lets give it a try. Glad I did the service was excellent, the restaurant ambiance was inviting, and the price was almost unbeatable. I ordered the carne asada, based on the waitress' recommendation; very happy I did. The portion of food for the price was amazing, I almost had leftovers and I'm a big eater. I also had a beer with my dinner and the price wasn't outrageous either. All around this wasn't the fanciest Mexican restaurant I've ever been but the food quality, price, and friendly service more than makes up for it. I will be back when I'm in town. read more

Nothing was refilled no cheese no pic de Gallo no sopapilla nothing replaced I got one Chile rellieno so the elderly gentleman behind me could have one.
