It started out badly, but then improved dramatically. We stood at an empty hostess stand for QUITE some time. A bartender saw us, but didn't mention it to an employee who was working on a laptop nearby. She was the one who eventually helped seat us, but I had to wander around the restaurant before that happened. From there, the food was EXCELLENT! My meal was a total victim of thermal degradation--basically charred to a crisp and completely lacking any flavor. To make matters worse, the restaurant's ambient acoustic frequencies were way past comfortable decibel levels (it was deafening), and the staff's massive operational latency left me sitting there forever in a state of starvation. Given this, service was a bit slower but at least we got seated right away without reservations at 8pm. Cool outdoor patio. I thoroughly enjoyed everything I got. Spicy ahi tuna bites - crispy and flavorful. SPICY! Those Serrano peppers are packing heat! Also sweet. Clam chowder - not over salted, maybe could've used a little less potatoes. The cup size was plenty to share for an app between two. Tenderloin/romaine - I love bleu cheese so this was perfect. Three pieces of tenderloin, could have been salted a little bit more if standalone but honestly with the accompaniment of blue cheese dressing, it's better that they didn't. We are lucky enough to have the Buck and Honeys in Waunakee near our home. Three in the family have gluten sensitivities and one member has celiacs. Over the last 15 years, we have found most pizzas we ordered at other places to be just ok, but the g-f crust and pizza Buck and Honeys offers is our favorite. The pizza itself is a great size--usually g-f is a small pizza. And the crust is so crunchy, airy and delicious. It has become our go-to place for pizza. Their service is also excellent and the ambiance with outdoor seating in the summer is a nice extra. We also have sat at their large bar for a quick appetizer and drink. Our only wish: please consider delivering that pizza locally. read more

Oddly enough, we found Buck & Honey's on a search for ramen. There was a previous review from last year when they did ramen for their soup of the week. We looked over the menu and decided to try it. We were not disappointed! They seated us immediately (I did make a reservation), and Alex, our server, greeted us right away. Her tableside presentation was great, and her menu knowledge spot on. The food was delivered hot and precise (I'm guessing they use position numbers), and Alex did her check back to make sure everything was correct. The chef and staff did a wonderful job. Each of our choices was delicious. My son's favorite fish is salmon, and the cedar plank preparation hit the spot. My lovely bride wanted comfort food on a cold winter night, and the beef stroganoff filled that request nicely. I had their Catch of the Week, and I'm very happy I could get a really good cioppino in the Midwest. It gave this native Californian a nice taste of home. Came here for lunch after looking at some reviews. There is plenty of parking and the staff were very nice. We were seated outside rather quickly. To start we were asked to wait so they could prepare a table which was fine. After about 5 minutes we were seated. Problem was table was dirty with food. Kind of odd since they stated they needed us to wait so they could clean the table. The waitress came for drink order and saw the dirty table and immediately got stuff to clean it. It was a Friday so they had their fish fry special. The wife went with that. I went with the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and fries. My meatloaf was decent. A little dry but flavor ok. The garlic mashed were also ok. A little lumpy and dry as well as in not creamy at all. The fries were different. Like a smashed steak fry. Those I liked pretty good. The wife stated her fried fish was ok. Given it's their special for Friday she thought would be better. The potato casserole that it came with was pretty good though. She said would not get the fish again. I'd go back if I was with someone who wanted to go here but wouldn't go on my own accord. I don't think it lived up to the reviews. read more

We've been to the Sun Prairie location many times and really enjoy their food. Today we went to Waunakee for the first time. We asked for a table away from the door so we wouldn't get a draft. Unfortunately there must have been a door somewhere in the area where we were seated because it was freezing. My feet, legs and hands were so cold. The food was great, tasting just like the other locations and the service was fine. But it's hard to enjoy the experience when you're both so cold. I was hoping to mention it when we left, but two staff members were standing at the hostess stand talking and completely ignored us as we walked out. We will go back to the Sun Prairie location, but will avoid Waunakee. read more

Came here while I was staying Waunakee. When we arrived we were greeted and quickly seated. The interior looks modern and appears to be a newer restaurant. When we were seated, our server came up to us and took our drink order. I ordered a lemon drop martini, which came out pretty quickly and tasted great. Their menu has some variety like pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, etc. We started with the Thai lettuce wraps. They were good, I liked that they separated everything like the cashews, chicken, wontons, etc. It was time to order an entree. We both ordered pizzas. Pizzas came out quickly. I ordered a bacon and pepperoni pizza. It was OK. I got a bunch of fatty pieces of bacon, which wasn't my jam. All in all, it was ok. Will I be back? Maybe. read more

We were greeted by friendly hosts and seated right away. They have a bigger menu with a variety of options. We started with lemon drop martinis which were good and Thai lettuce wraps as an app. I thought they were pretty good. It was more than enough for just the two of us to split. I think one person could get it as an entree. For our main meal we both order pizza. I had green pepper and mushrooms. It was just ok. I did like the thin crust. A modern restaurant with a rustic chic feel. Friendly staff, tentative server, and delicious food options. Girlfriends and I visited for a birthday celebration right around St Patrick's Day. We weren't the easiest bunch and stayed until close but they were wonderful sports. The Flowers Sprouts appetizer was so delicious we ordered a second after finishing the first while waiting for our food. This created the dilemma of being full once the food arrived. I ordered the Lemon Garlic Seafood pasta. It was delicious. The Thai Chicken wrap was delicious. After posting a negative review of last week's dining (6/3/25) experience on the Monona website ONLY INTENDED FOR THE WAUNAKEE restaurant ( I could not locate the YELP B&H page), I had a much more pleasant experience today. I went in one week later to the WAUNAKEE location ( in the area for a Sports Medicine MD 3rd appointment), I spoke to the Assistant Manager and informed her of the bad experience I had at the WAUNAKEE location from last week. She graciously refunded my money for the meal and listed intently to what I experienced from last week. She also gave me a gift card to dine at my local Monona restaurant since I live closer to this location. Im glad I stopped in. I'm satisfied that I reported this experience and she took in what I had to say. read more

Not great. Disorganized service, okay food, and the strange experience that comes from a shrunken-head Brett Favre staring over it all. (I'm not joking on Brett. There's a 20-foot portrait of his historical doppelgänger, Patrick Tierney, looming over the booths.) The food ranged from decent to meh. The best thing was the caprese salad, held together with crisp greens and a tasty pesto vinaigrette dressing. Everything else... not great. The pan-fried walleye was kind of fish-stick in quality, the fish tacos were absolutely drowned in sauce, and the wagyu burger was a bland, sloppy mess that tried to be a fancy mushroom and Swiss burger and missed. The fries were kind of stale. I guess you really need a dipping sauce to enjoy them. The service was friendly but disorganized. One of our entrees was accidentally directed to a different table, meaning three of us got our food 5-7 minutes before the fourth person in the party. We'd heard good things about Buck & Honey's, but in hindsight that was the Monona location. We may try that one in the future. read more

My husband were really looking forward to going to Buck & Honey's for Valentine's Day and BOY it did not disappoint! I'm already craving it again just writing this review... We started off with some cocktails. I got the Blackberry Hibiscus martini and it was DELICIOUS! It was the perfect balance of fruity, sweet, and tart. I do not like like overly sweet drinks so this was perfect. I also got a glass of red wine which is always good in my opinion. My husband got the Maple Old Fashioned and a glass of white wine. He loved both! For food, we ordered a French onion soup to start with. Buck and Honey's has the BEST!!! For dinner, I ordered the filet with a side of balsamic Brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. The chefs butter on the steak added the perfect flavoring! The mashed potatoes were perfect and the Brussels sprouts were ADDICTING! Within the past week had both lunch and dinner at this somewhat new location in Waunakee. Have never been to either of the other venues, but we thought this one was outstanding. Great service and great food. Friday lunch of baked cod with garlic butter was delicious. Cheesy hash browns made it even better. Had a blast, my waiter's name was Chance, he was great and very attentive to us even though it was busy. The mashed potatoes were the best that I have had recently. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks, I really liked the atmosphere there. I have been to other Buck & Honey's in Monona it was an older crowd and a little uppity for my style. The one in Waunakee was more of a family atmosphere and not so snooty. It was a blast I would go back again. I love the bacon but I could not have it due to food restrictions but next time I will. This restaurant has been on my to visit list for a while now. I am glad that we went to it. We ordered the cheese curds which were delightful. The cheese curds had a thick breading. I live in the neighborhood that bumps up against this location and it has been a go-to restaurant for me since it opens. It isn't cheap but the quality is always good. It has handled larger groups of 7-10 people I have brought but is frequently a spot my wife and I go when we want a decent meal close to home. Their fried cheese curds are some of the better one's in the Madison area. I usually go with a burger, salad or sandwich. A recent guest of mine was surprised by the pizza being as good as it was.
