When I was in Verona for some Epic stuff, a few of my co-workers and I hit this place up for dinner on the last night that we were in town and I think it was a good choice. And a couple of my co-workers wanted to watch a basketball game there and they had plenty of TV's. The bartenders were really happy and that was infectious; which I always love seeing. My experience at Stone Porch Alehouse was extremely disappointing because of the way I was treated by one of the bartenders. I had winning tickets from one of the machines inside the restaurant, but I am not from this area and was unfamiliar with their redemption process. When I handed her the tickets, she tried to throw them in the trash without asking me or explaining anything. I stopped her and told her they were winning tickets and that I wanted to redeem them. Instead of helping me, her attitude became rude and disrespectful. I asked for my tickets back because I no longer wanted her assistance. She then told me to step away from the bar, said I was not welcome in the restaurant, and threatened to call the police. I asked to speak with the manager so I could explain what had happened, but instead of allowing me to explain, I was repeatedly told to leave while the bartender continued threatening to call the police. I expected to be treated with courtesy and respect, especially since this was simply a misunderstanding that could have been been resolved with a polite explanation. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had, and I will not be returning. read more

This was a birthday dinner and a chance to try a restaurant we had never been to before, overall, great dining experience, good service, delicious drinks, large portions, and great menu variety! I highly recommend their flatbreads/pizzas for appetizers. The Margarita flatbread/pizza was outstanding. Each of us ordered something different, but the salad with beets was phenomenal, the prime rib special tasted great, and the desserts were also delicious -- we ordered one of each. Our server was very nice, but sometimes lingered way too long and came back to ask us what we ordered multiple times. We also thought the welcome and seating folks could have been more welcoming and kind, but they were also so busy -- probably because this place is delicious and has a good atmosphere. I had heard good things about Stone Porch Ale House, so decided to stop in over the weekend for date night. I had no idea it is where the old Gray's Tied House was! I was thrilled to see that something had gone into that space, because it's perfect for a restaurant - very spacious. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, because it's one of my favorite meals, and must check it out whenever I see it on a menu somewhere. It comes with your choice of a side, so I opted for the house chips with French onion dip. The chips were crispy with the perfect thinness, and the dip was a great addition - I've never seen that as an option with a side before! The sandwich itself was just okay, there were two fried chicken thighs, but one was really rubbery and tough to chew, so I ditched it and just ate the one. I enjoyed the pickles and garlic aioli, but the taste of the seasoning blend was more sweet than spicy - definitely not how I imagine a Nashville hot to be. I probably wouldn't get it again. My husband enjoyed his Apple Brandy Alexander, and I opted for Coke, which came in cute mason jars. I always enjoy when restaurants have fun glasses! Due to the location and the menu options, we will likely return, but I definitely plan to try some other items! read more

The stone porch is a nice looking restaurant/bar and very comfortable. There is an extensive menu but since it was noon on a Saturday I opted to have a burger and my wife got their Cuban sandwich. The Cuban sandwich was a better of the two. The burger looked really good but it came on a really mediocre bun and even with lettuce and tomato the burger was boring. It needed something I'm not sure if it was salt or whether it was something else but I've had better burgers in many other places. Still a cozy place with a good bartender and lots of choices for beer. I definitely would stop again but not choose a burger for my meal. read more

Went here for lunch on a Saturday and was impressed with how many kids were there given that it's an Althouse. Very family friendly with our waitress being super accommodating and attentive with the kids. We ended up ordering the chicken tenders immediately and then she came back to get our order once we had time to look at the menu. We got the mushroom & swiss burger with cornbread and the sausage and apricot pizza. All the food was pretty good, including the kids meal. We couldn't believe how large the chicken tenders were, with a pretty thick breading that looked like they had just dredged it upon ordering. The sweet potato waffle fries were also quite tasty with just enough crisp. The pizza was a nice combo of salty sweet and the crust was pillowy with a firm base. Really tasty. The burger was fine, but super messy. The bottom bun was pretty much saturated with juices. The corn bread outdid my expectations and it was a huge cube of a piece. Served with some honey and butter, I would recommend. It would be great with a soup or salad. Overall, good atmosphere, attentive staff, and pretty good food for not a bad price. We dined in with a group of 7 and had a wonderful experience! The hostess recommended for future visits to use their online reservation system for a group of our size, which was a nice tip. We were seated and our server came by quickly. He was kind and friendly, and he did a great job continuing to check in on us throughout our meal. I ordered the gouda pub burger and it was delicious. The chips were not my favorite - they were a little too oily for me. However, I got to try the cornbread (one of their other sides), which was tasty, and I like that you get butter and honey to spread onto it. Fantastic restaurant. Everyone in our party of 7 really loved their food. I had Gouda Cheesesteak sandwich - it was huge and flavorful. Great food and tons of beer choices equals excellent new restaurant in Verona. We made a reservation on their website easy enough. We had studied the menu online in advance of our meal. I started with a side salad with red wine vinaigrette. The server stated this dressing is a favorite of customers, and I agree. The salad was a nice size and very fresh. My husband had the French Onion Soup. He liked it, but it could have used a bit more salt. I chose the shrimp po boy sandwich for my main. It did not disappoint. Four very large deep-fried shrimps were so tasty with the fresh tomato slices, lettuce, and a mildly spicy remoulade sauce. It's just the best combination of flavors, A+! read more

If I could give NO STARS, I would. Went there with a group of parents and boys (in between lacrosse games) when the restaurant had maybe 2 tables of customers. We wanted the boys to sit together and offered to have the parents break up into separate tables... The manager/owner was so rude! She obviously didn't know how to handle a large group. She didn't want to move tables and raised her voice at parents. She even told us that we'd only get get one bill and we'll just have to figure it out yourselves. She got so flustered that she told us to just leave - that their kitchen couldn't handle it. Even gave attitude saying something along the lines of - Good luck trying to find another place that'll take your group without reservations! Well, just in case she reads this... I came in and sat at the bar, very few customers in attendance, asked for a juice and a menu which I promptly received and then I became invisible. I set the menu down and pushed it forward, so the bartender could see that I was ready to order, and it never happened. The server was doing one thing at a time and passed me by at least 12 times. I simply wanted a quick nice sandwich with nice surroundings. I left my juice untouched, left a five dollar bill and walked out. I did this in front of the bartender and other employees And no one tried to stop me or ask me if there was a problem and I stopped at the local supermarket, got some chicken salad and an energy drink and ate on my way home while driving. I will say the same thing as I left in the message to the manager at the establishment, which was this simply narrows my choices of selections and makes it easier in the future for me to decide where to stop and have a quick bite to eat. The food at this restaurant was average at best and I am extremely hard of hearing and the acoustics are very bad. But what really soured our stay is when we got back outside to our vehicle. We drive a high end pick up and am always careful where we park it. So when I seen a parking stall available next to the owners sports car, I thought that would be a safe place to park. Upon returning to our vehicle, we noticed that the owner had put a note on our windshield condemning us for parking next to his car even though we were legally parked in the parking lines. Probably a 3.5 rating, to be fair. My friend and I sat at the bar while we waited for our table (it was Saturday night, and very busy). It took awhile to get waited on, but we could see that bartenders were swamped. My Manhattan was amazing. It would have been nice if Stone Porch had a system for transferring your bar tab to the dinner tab, because once our table was ready it was awkward getting a bartender's attention and taking the time, to close out. Dinner was good except for the timing. We both ordered French Onion soup as an appetizer, but our entrees came before we were even halfway through the soup. I had the Cuban, which was traditional (I got it without the red onion) and very good; it's hard to find a place that has a Cuban around these parts! We both ordered wine, and it was a very small pour. I'm guessing 3 oz, maybe 4 oz, but definitely not the traditional 5 oz pour, which was disappointing. I'd go back though, for the Manhattan and the Cuban, and would probably skip the appetizer and wine. read more

My wife and I were out looking to see what the local places did for Old Fashions. We often make them at home, and the night before we had been at Paul's Neighborhood Bar, where we had a few very delicious OFs, and they make great OFs. Anyway, let's focus here. This was our first visit to Stone Porch since they opened. I ordered a brandy OF (Korbel) for my wife and a whiskey OF (Jack) for me. Both sweet. When they arrived I was surprised to see a cinnamon stick floating on the top of each of the drinks. I went in with an open mind hoping to taste something new and adventurous in an OF. I was anticipating the taste of the bitters on my first sip, and was seriously disappointed. I had recently had for the first time a whiskey with tonic water and was not a fan of the watered down fizzy whiskey, and this was what their version of their whiskey OF tasted like. Again, what a disappointment... no taste of bitters, no sweet, and what seems like a tonic with a dash of whiskey. Even the orange I recovered from the bottom of the glass barely had an orange flavor. The wife confirmed that she was equally disappointed in her brandy OF. Pretty disappointing, and from what I see in these Yelp reviews it appears their food carries the same disappointing results. Wonderful dinner last night. Best salmon I have had in Madison area. Better than Fairchild or Harvey House. Sides of collard greens and cornbread were southern for sure. The chef used to own a restaurant that specialized in down home cooking. My only complaint is that the restaurant is noisy. Nothing to do about that.I will be back but maybe dueing the week. Service was spot on even though it was busy, I would suggest hiring a busser or two but it is Verona and tough to hire. Went there tonight with two people (not 25 like the 1 star reviews). We had an online reservation and were seated within a few minutes of arriving. Servers were polite, food came out super fast, and multiple people checked in on us throughout our meal. Friday fish fry was good, fried chicken was really good. It's nice to see the former Tied House/Boulder Brew Pub come back as something new. Don't let the multiple 1 star reviews from the one Illinois group scare you off, this place is new, but already off to a great start. read more

Service is normally really good. Food quality is amazing. Some things on the menu are a bit overpriced like cheese curds for $9.50 when you get maybe a basket of 15. The food is always cooked correctly and is normally out within 20 minutes on an average day. Owner is amazing, super nice. The restaurant is VERY clean, including the bathrooms. Most of the servers are very sweet and nice. There tends to be some issues with the adding of bills but it always gets sorted out in the end. But otherwise everything is amazing. read more

Went in for Trivia on Thursday with the family and had an absolutely fantastic time. Staff was incredibly helpful and accomodating throughout the entire evening even when they were packed full. Large open area makes it great to stand up and mingle with friends and not feel cramped among the people around you. Going to become a frequent stop in the rotation! If you're looking to try somewhere new tonight for dinner, maybe look somewhere else! I recently visited Stone Porch and was hoping for a great meal, but the experience didn't quite hit the mark. The place felt oddly empty and lacked a welcoming vibe. Felt like we were at the Kalahari eating dinner at 3pm on a Wednesday but in reality it was 6pm Sunday night. :-/ We were excited to try their staple dishes, but unfortunately, the burgers (we tried cheeseburger, jalapeño popper, and Gouda burger) were dry, the pub chips were borderline burnt, and the cornbread was way over baked and crunchy. (Normal fries were great, but a $4 upcharge!). My party ordered their cheesecurds and they were not Wisconsin's best. They tasted like fake cheese and were definitely of the frozen kind. I personally tried their herb crusted chicken with carrot and potatoes, but the veggies weren't all the way cooked and the chicken was very very basic. On the plus side, our server was really friendly--I wish I could've remembered his name--and the food being bad was in no way his fault. But the experience definitely did not live up to our expectations. I hope this feedback helps in making some improvements. read more

We came in with a large group. There were 3 people who were extremely rude to us, including the owner/manager. We were basically told to leave because they couldn't accommodate our group. Nope! If I could do zero stars I would. I ordered baked cod. The cost was 17.00 I was brought two pieces of fish so small they looked like a kids fish stick. Could not have been more than two ounce total. I also received one side which was a small bowl with about a cup of mashed potatoes. Potatoes were fine. Fish was not good. It was slimy and tasted like what I would imagine a fish tank tastes like. We were told our wait for a table would be about 45 minutes. From the spot we were waiting we could see about three empty tables but they needed to be cleared. After an hour, I checked to see if we were still on the list. When we finally got seated an hour and 15 minutes later, we waited a good 20 minutes for someone to come take our drink order. The restaurant had empty tables. The next day we were regretting the whole experience as we had GI issues. read more

In the 1 month they've been open, we've been here a couple of times and each time we've had great food and service. The food came fast both times. We've been able to try the cheese curds, chicken and waffles, Mac and chez, French onion soup, shrimp Po boy, and the Cuban. Everything has been very good, but The chicken is amazing! Two big pieces of hand breaded chicken. I saw another table's order and it looked like their chicken strips were also hand breaded. The prices are very reasonable, same prices you pay for bar food at some other local places. I can't wait to try many other items on the menu. read more
