    Fried Jalapeno Burger
    Janis B.

We took youngest granddaughter to WaterZoo last Thursday without calling or checking the website, and yes it was closed. Fortunately, we had spotted several things we'd like to see "one day". The first thing was to head back east to this place because hubby's mother was named Lucille. I was a little disappointed to see a less than 5 star rating but we went in anyway. What a delightful place! We were seated and then waited on immediately by a very friendly young lady. She helped me find the jalapeño burger then when I was having trouble selecting a side she mentioned that they had recently gotten sweet potato fries which I immediately ordered Our food came quickly and was both attractive and DELICIOUS! Much to my surprise the jalapeños weren't out of a jar! That they were battered strips. I think it was the best jalapeño hamburger I've ever had. My husband and granddaughter both enjoyed their dishes as well. Then we drove on down the road and stopped at the original gas station and got some pictures. Don't pass up this restaurant, it is worth eating at!

    Worst patty melt ever!

Disappointing. Just keep driving. After going to the air plane museum we were starving. We stopped by Lucille's for a "quick lunch" before continuing our journey. After being waited on by an "I don't want to be here" attitude waitress, I ordered the party melt and fries. My BF ordered the fried jalapeño burger. We waited close to a half hour to get the food. E also had to ask for our food. Neither of the burgers were seasoned and were Sahara Desert dry from being extremely overcooked. Mine was so bad I didn't even finish the first half and the fries weren't much better. Luckily I had an apple in my car. My boyfriend said his would have been the same had it not been loaded with other stuff. That was the only way it saved his. The pickles were gross too. How could they improve ! Hire a new cook and stuff without the attitude.

We like to stop at local places whenever possible and skip the chain restaurants so this fit the bill. Menu had a wide variety of tastes to please anyone. We didn't have a lot of time since we were here for a tournament and only had an hour or so between games. Service was fine. A little on the slow side so like I said, we had to rush it along a bit. We ordered the strawberry and the taco salads, quesadillas that they happily adjusted to make vegetarian for us, and 2 chicken dishes. Generous portions. Some were leftover but that's fine. No one left hungry. The decor was cute, and even had some history of the restaurant and the namesake on the wall. It wasn't noisy or crowded during our visit. Couple flies were buzzing around which was icky but that happens in the warm weather sometimes. Overall not spectacular but for a diner in the middle of nowhere, you could do a lot worse.

I was here recently and low and behold, I found this gem. The Side Bar is a true diamond in the rough of what is Lawton, Oklahoma. The owner(s) is definitely not a local and why he would live here is beyond me. BUT the ambiance, decor, and cosmopolitan look is very well done and stands up with any great bar in Deep Ellum or Lower Greenville. It's only when the clientele open their mouths do you realize, "yup, I'm still in Lawton, Oklahoma." The bartenders are not just cute but actually were attentive (more so than many places in Dallas) and, considering it is Lawton, Oklahoma, know what a Manhattan is as well as an Old Fashioned. Unfortunately they served without rye but I don't hold it against them (looking at you management/owner) because I was immediately told about it. I'm looking forward to asking for a sazerac or a cosmopolitan on my next visit so hopefully they have the goods. The only issue I had with the staff (IF he is on the payroll) was some idiot who treated the music as his own personal playlist; diverse clientele be damned. Even the bartenders were annoyed at him but he straightened up once the owner was on site. Also, there is a lot of smoke/vaping but I give that a pass since, well, it is Lawton, Oklahoma. PROS: Atmosphere; diverse crowd; attentive bartenders who knew how to make a drink without googling it; owner seems cool CONS: CASH ONLY (but there is an ATM just outside); may be out of liquor for classic cocktails; smoking/vaping; idiot wannabe DJ In closing: I would have given a 5 star if the liquor was stocked (in spite of the idiot dj). BUT I will be back again and have already recommended to the locals I know there

We shared the Buffalo Wontons, the Chicken Flatbread and the Banana Pepper Caesar Salad. The Flatbread was amazing, great flavor combination. The salad has parmesan crisps that were a pleasant surprise. A huge upgrade over croutons. The wontons are light and flavorful. They offer brunch from 10-2 on weekends and after reading the menu descriptions we returned on Sunday to try the Okie Bennie and the Rancheros. The crispy potatoes are awesome. Skin on, seasoned and a great addition to both dishes. The verde sauce on the Rancheros was delicious, the carnitas was tender. A great breakfast bowl. The Okie Bennie was very good. Easy to get a bite of egg, chicken and biscuit on your fork. We finished the meal sharing the sweet potato cheesecake. Our server on Sunday was Matthew. The Winston is worth the wait. Weather permitting, the outdoor patio is a good option.

I think they were hoping no one would notice. They were very busy tonight... I will give them that.... But overall, the service level has dropped off, in the food quality has dropped off since they became employee owned. We understand this is a Hal Smith Resteraunt. But it just is really disheartening to see the service level, the drink level, and the food level goes from exceptional to below average. We have not been here for several months, we came here on a whim, and we will probably not be back for several more months. It's just not the same........
