While traveling we checked Yelp! for suggestions. White Dog Hill came up as right on our route. It was a Thursday night so who knew it would be so popular. We checked in and there was a 2-1/2 hour wait but they would try to work us in. We were seated in about an hour. Our order was taken quickly and some of the best steaks we've had were delivered hot and fresh from the grill. They were amazing. The restaurant is in a century old country club that was built with local hand quarried sandstone and brick. It's a great experience with great food and the locals agree. This food was not what I expected. It wasn't very good. The lemon pepper asparagus was the most disguising thing any restaurant should ever think about serving. It was soggy, looked like a plate of worms that tasted like it can straight from the can; no taste at all. We ordered at 7:20 and finally got our side salad around 8:15. The main course, steak and shrimp got there around 8:30. So, it took over an hour to eat our main course from there time we ordered. We finally decided to travel to Clinton to eat at White Dog. We knew we needed to go before daylight saving fall back. They are only open for dinner so winter means traveling home in dark. Easy to find but with a woodsey feel. Love the chairs sitting out for sunset viewing. The whole place is very unique. We went on Halloween so hardly anyone there. Would love to go back when a more lively crowd. When your retired, you like to people watch and visit. Ordered the special Meatloaf with mashed sweet potatoes and zucchini. Husband had porkchop. All very good but would of loved bread. They do offer appetizers of cheese board with a little bread roll. I'm not a fan of chunks of cheese so didn't order. Menu has steaks and hamburgers. Watch specials on Facebook! Summer would be best to be prettiest and warmer. Definitely worth the 1 1/2 hr drive. Very friendly service. Total casual atmosphere. Had a lovely dinner with friends at White Dog Hill (WDH). Left OKC at 4:30 and picked up our friends in Yukon at 5:00. Arrived WDH at 6 for our reservations. WDH is a unique venue and an excellent restaurant located east of Clinton, OK sitting on a plateau that provides a beautiful view and stunning sunsets. The restaurant is rustic, charming, and exudes warmth. There are two dining levels, and the lower level is my favorite because of the sandstone rock walls. The building was originally constructed as the Clinton Country Club in 1925. If you're ever within a hundred miles of Clinton, OK, you should go to this place for dinner. It is only open Wednesday through Saturday. At least that was their schedule in April of 2024. We dined there last night and both ordered the six ounce filet. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The building is a hundred years old with quite an interesting past! The full story is a short read and is on the cover page of the menu. The views to the west are amazing and service swift and courteous. The food: in a word, great. I ordered the 'Crunchy Broccoli Slaw' and being a slightly steamed broccoli fan, I loved it! My second side was called 'Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole' and it was spectacular! This is a most interesting, historic building with a hundred mile view. The food was exceptional. We had ribeyes with various sides and everything was prepared deliciously. Another amazing recommendation from the locals in Clinton, OK. This place was beautiful on the inside and had a great view of the surrounding area below. I went for the Ribeye with a side of fried green tomatoes and it was amazing! Perfectly cooked, well seasoned and great herb butter and dipping sauce for the tomatoes. I would go back in a heartbeat. The atmosphere is really nice! We all enjoyed it! The cheese board is a must get! It was the best Gorgonzola I have ever eaten. We all wanted to like the main courses more than we did. My husband and I went to White Dog Hill restaurant for our anniversary, and it did not disappoint. The wine selection is good, and reasonably priced for the quality. I had a glass of Riesling, and my husband had Merlot; both were delicious. For dinner I had the grilled pork chop with pink sauce, which was cooked perfectly. It was moist and tender, with tons of flavor from the sauce (which was slightly sweet due to the apple sauce in it). For sides I chose the loaded baked potato and the Brussels sprouts gratin. Both sides were amazing, but my favorite by far was the Brussels sprouts. They were rich and the texture was just right. My husband equally enjoyed his salmon with Brussels sprouts and a Cesar salad. We split a triple fudge brownie for dessert, and it was moist and decadent in the best possible way. The restaurant is a little out of the way, but certainly worth the drive. read more

A few things to say about the restaurant it has a great atmosphere. I love the location especially at sunset by the fireplace really can't beat that however, I do consider myself a food critic, so I am also a cook, and have had the opportunity to partake in fine food throughout the world, just to say the following the wine selection was OK, but rather limited we had the cheese plate. It was quite good and in reality should have just stopped there and it would've been a fine night. I ordered the salmon with broccoli with a cheese sauce, as well as a side of fries I would say the fries were the best the salmon and broccoli was quite common my companion had the shrimp kebab and baked potato, as well as a side salad . The baked potato was less than Wendy's. quality , the side salad with raspberry vinaigrette was again quite common nothing special. The shrimp kebab was cooked well and was excellent. To end the dining experience we ordered the peach crisp, it was awful, anyone in western ok could have done better, get a cookbook. My overall recommendation would be if you want a nice quiet night out with a fine companion, you would find the white dog restaurant to be an excellent place to be , if you are looking for a dining experience, you may not really find it there my suggestion would be have two bottles of wine and a cheeseboard and enjoy the evening. Staying in Clinton on the way to OKC. Go!!! Jamie was super pleasant when I called last-minute for reservations. The owner greeted us at the hostess stand. Very welcoming, chatted with her a bit about our recent visit to Santa Fe. We had a delicious, pleasant meal. Macey was our server. Attentive but not intrusive. I couldn't decide between catfish and shrimp. She suggested catfish and adding a skewer of shrimp. Perfect! She also suggested the pan-seared catfish over the breaded. Also perfect! I don't believe I've ever had catfish any way other than fried but so glad I did tonight! Very tender with dill on top but just the right amount. Husband had the 12 oz sirloin - prepared just right. His cheesy potatoes were yummy!! My salad and baked potato were good, nothing special. But the homemade raspberry vinaigrette - yum!! Thick, almost like a jam - I kept what I didn't use for my salad and dipped my grilled shrimp in it! Try it! Good on the catfish too. After a long day we decided to visit this highly touted restaurant. They were able to squeeze us in which we really appreciated. We decided to split a 16 oz ribeye and knew we would be charged $6.00 split fee, but what we didn't expect was just a plate and fix it yourself. The price usually means they will divide it up for you and in many places to add a little extra on the sides, which did not happen. They also asked what topping we would like on the steak. Their rub sounded good and simple so that is what we ordered. We were charged 4.95 for the rub which was salt, pepper and a few spices. What would we have gotten if we said we didn't want the rub - nothing? So an extra $10.95 was added to our check for nothing - shame on them. read more

We didn't know what to expect when we pulled up, but found a cozy restaurant with great food! Reservations are usually needed but we lucked out and there was a table. The specials and sides change often, but if they have the eggplant you should try it - so good! All the desserts are made in house, if they have the Indy cake with whiskey sauce it was amazing! Eclectic, Rustic, step back in time Charm. I loved the whole dining experience. If you are just passing through, or if you are local, this place should be considered a must do destination not just a place to eat. Pulling up to an old country lane with an old pick-up out front, driving down a dirt drive, and eating in an old home with picturesque views, brought back nostalgic memories. There was a wait to be seated and they recommended we go to the other building on the property Benny's Bar. I am glad there was a wait or i would have missed sitting in the old building next to a cracking wood stove, with eclectic furnishings and a sit back and relax vibe. The drinks and cheese plate at the bar were excellent. The old home converted into a restaurant, served excellent steaks and tasty sides. The cost is inline with a higher end steakhouse. The servers were friendly. When you head here just make sure they are open as they have limited hours. I made the mistake of driving an hour to the location and they were closed. The address on Yelp is also wrong it is on Rte 66 not "old frontage rd 66" that mistake took me 15min the wrong way. read more

EAT HERE! If you're looking for good (and are ok with a worthwhile pricey option) eat here! WARNING: If going from Clinton (where we spent the night) it is awkward to find. The hostess failed in her directions to mention it is a ways off the service road (GPS couldn't locate address). There is an old "antique" truck by a timber thing (like at ranches) on the right. The restaurant name is no where to be found (hint to owner) and at night it is a dark somewhat rutty dirt road up to the Xmas-like lite building. Now, the food and service were worth the trouble! We both had 12 oz strip steaks prepared perfectly to the correct temperature. I usually order a filet but didn't want to spend the extra money (and am pleased I didn't). Didn't even need steak sauce. Dinners come with choice of 2 sides that aren't just salad and potato although that's what my hubby enjoyed. I chose a yummy broccoli casserole and pasta with spinach and sun dried tomato. Dessert was good too. Our waiter was excellent. The old remodeled place is charming. We have been to this restaurant several times now and every single time it has been absolutely amazing. As you drive up you immediately realize that you are not in for a "typical" dining experience. The large house appears frozen in time from long ago. The location sits atop a hill looking out at the vast prairie. I strongly encourage you to get there before sunset so that you can watch it. There are numerous patio chairs and loungers set up just for this activity. Before your dinner, across the yard from the restaurant is the beanie bar. Stop in there and order some drinks. They have several unique drinks on their menu and if you can't find something that appeals to you they will always mix up your favorite for you. While you wait for your table there is plenty of seating at the beanie bar and more amazing atmosphere. The walls and floors are the original structure from the 1800s. It's amazing and adds to the fun and intriguing atmosphere. Once your table is ready and get seated you will be surrounded by the same unique and intriguing atmosphere as the interior of the restaurant is the untouched structure from the 1800s. We usually have Oscar as our server and he is amazing. He and the rest of the staff are all great and very friendly. They definitely add to the great experience and have no shortage of unique and entertaining stories about the property. Do everyone in your party a favor and order a cheese plate for the table. It's always amazing and the staff will guide you in picking what's best if you are not familiar with cheeses. When it comes time to order there are some staples that you can expect every time you come out. However, their specials are posted on their Facebook page every Wednesday for the coming weekend. My biggest piece of advice to you is to order from the specials. Even if it's doesn't sound like something you would normally like. Some how some way the ingredients and combinations are always out of this world delicious and never disappoint. We have had several different meals there and don't have a single complaint about any of them ever. Now it's going to be difficult trust me I know, but it is paramount that you save room for dessert. I can not stress this part enough. I'm not even a big sweets person and their deserts get me every time. Even if you don't save room you're just gonna have to muscle through and order. As a lifelong Western Oklahoman, I appreciated the views and can't wait to go back during the summer. The sunset was spectacular. We started my birthday dinner by going to The Beany Bar and getting some drinks (omg the slip!!!) And a cheese board with several specialty cheeses. It was the perfect appetizer. We then went to the main building where we had just the most amazing dinner. Amber was fantastic and took great care of us! As the granddaughter of a rancher, I am extremely picky about my steaks and how they're cooked. The ribeye was the most perfect steak I have ever had. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly!
