Never come here during commute hours. The cashiers are extremely slow. I don't have a problem with the baggers who are developmentally slow. The cashiers seem to either have a mandate to be "friendly" with customers or are just that chatty. I don't need cashiers trying to start conversations about what I'm making with the stuff I'm buying. That slows the line. Sorry. I see how these cashiers work and the cashiers at 99 Ranch have them beat every single time. I don't have a car, so I have to shop only what I can carry in my rucksack. A cart is unnecessary, but a basket is a must. For the longest time, they ran out of baskets. I was told by a cashier that "people kept stealing them". Somehow the nearby Trader Joe's doesn't have that problem. I'm glad they finally have them available. I've never bought anything from their fish department. They had a strong fishy smell (reduced now) that they finally fixed, but there is still a faint smell as you walk out of the greeting card aisle. Their produce department was weak for years when it was an Albertson's. They got better right before they converted to a Lucky. The self-serve checkout tends to have at least one machine out of service each time I'm there. I, too, am glad that they finally limited their use to 15 items. Sometimes i think entire families with full carts come here because the "express lane" isn't fast enough. On the positive side, the aisles are wide enough for 2 carts to pass by each other. However, you still get the self-centered jerks who park in the middle. The selection is pretty varied. It's organized in a way that you can find things. Price wise, I really only go here if it's not something sold at 99 Ranch. Just a slight comparison of prices: As of today, a canister of generic salt was 69 cents, which was cheaper than their Morton's at 99 cents; at 99 Ranch Morton's was 50 cents. None was on sale. I'm always amused to see the fire departments for Richmond and Kensington getting their groceries here. It's big and clean. But the lines are horrendously slow. read more

Sure this store is impressively massive and the way their products are displayed are really cool but the prices are ridiculous(check out their steep milk and egg prices) and they don't have handles on their paper bags. The bagger (a mentally slow man) wears only a plastic shield (not a proper mask) so his breathe still gets on everything and he insists on chatting constantly asking a million questions about how to bag your groceries. I had to tell him to be quiet and hurry. Even then it didn't work. Stand very far away from this bagger if you value your life. Do not breathe. It would be better if he could keep quiet and work. I usually don't buy my groceries here, unless there's an amazing sale, and then it's only to buy said items. Most prices, contrary to what one is led to believe, are very high, even sometimes higher than the local markets. This goes for ketchup, mayonnaise, flour, sugar, salsas, dairy and breads, to name a few. Produce is your typical sub-par, and also quite expensive. Monterey Market is by far a better buy on quality and price. Butcher meats are mostly select (3rd tier), and sometimes there are choice (2nd tier, best available to shoppers) or Harris Ranch meats. Be choosy! Seafood counter is OK, people are helpful, but the quality is spotty. Most of it is previously frozen. They offer a satisfaction guarantee, but how convenient is that to return something you've already cooked and bitten into? On the plus side is the bakery. We've ordered several birthday cakes from them. They are good enough to offer you the choice of frostings between buttercream, whipped or trans-fat hell. We've always gotten the chocolate cake with raspberry filling, and white buttercream frosting. Otherwise, Lucky is about a once-a-month visit for me at best, and I'm still afraid to go there at night due to many strange characters lingering about. read more

Easter 2020, middle of the Covid pandemic. Checker not wearing a mask or gloves. When I said I wasn't comfortable, I was directed to speak to the manager a few check stands away. Manager was hostile and said there was no legal obligation to wear gloves/mask. In retaliation, empowered by manager's non-response, checker said I should go wait in another line (for another 40+ minutes?!?) after already handling most of my items. I suggested to the manager that they should post a clear sign at the back of the line when the checker opts not to wear mask/gloves as fair warning. Manager replied that it would be too much effort and suggested I should not come back to the store. I definitely won't. I'm posting this as a warning that this store doesn't care about the health and safety of its employees or customers. read more

The deli service is horrible and the quality is lackluster. Additionally, it takes a long time to check out and the experience leaves much to be desired. They have a solid arrange of produce and with such a huge store they have most items one would need for any cooking need. They have a large pharmacy area and I did order my daughter's birthday cake from here. They made a mistake in writing her name on the cake, but the taste of the cake was good from a child's perspective, but I was not as impressed. read more

This review is for the bakery. What happened? This particular bakery used to have a sufficient amount of sourdough bread. Now, it always never seems to be in stock. The last time I was there, I was told to call ahead. So I did just that and had to talk with two different bakery employees, the last one had an accent I could not understand and must have been deaf. Time to look for a brand new resource for sourdough bread. What a disappointment this Lucky's bakery is--the quality surely has gone downhill, way down the toilet. Well, I was beyond upset, I had to call to speak to the store manager. To cut to the chase, they had the bakery bake two loaves of sourdough for me and it would be on the house. OK! So I went to pick up my French bread gratis! Glad that was doable and it worked out. Will call ahead from here on out! It was well worth the effort, the crust is not too hard and the sourdough tastes just right. Thank you Lucky! You still have a happy customer in me. read more

I really love this place! It's huge, prices are more reasonable than at Safeway, and there's a wide variety of items on sale. Mexican selection is particulary good. This is where you go when you just want decent, regular food and you don't want to spend more than you need to. Let the snobs keep their overpriced crap and waste their lives obsessing about every little ingredient - I'm a fan of Lucky. read more

This once was my preferred supermarket. That changed some time ago, and it is now the last place I might go. Everything they ever knew about customer service seems to have been forgotten. I first noticed it in the location of the hand baskets. At stores where customer service is a priority, the hand baskets are located near the doors, where they are convenient for the customers. No here. They stack them up next to the self checkouts, so one has to make a detour to pick one up before going shopping. A real pain from a customer's point of view, but probably quite convenient for the staff. Still I overlooked this for a long time. The visit that made me stop going here started with my hunt of a cart. There were none at either door, and I had to make my way out in to the parking in the rain to find one. This was particularly strange since as I walked around the store it was not at all busy. Finally, when it came time to check out there was one lane open and about six people in it. After some customer grumbling about "three's a crowd" one of the staff wondered off the try to rustle up some help. She returned to tell us that all the other checkers were on break. Really, what kind of poor manager manages their resources like this? I don't know. I don't care. I haven't been back. read more

I like this place because its just like the average supermarkets in so cal...it was clean, bright, well stocked, plenty of parking, annoyingly friendly workers and well known items... Thankfully you don't need to have another one of those club cards either... Yes, its not Berkeley Bowl, Trader Joes or Whole Foods, but that isn't what I'm looking for...Sometimes I'd like the option to buy some regular old product by an established brand and not an overpriced fair trade organic free range eco version! Sacrilege! I know! But I'm from LA do deal with it! I'm not into this paradoxical "I'm a hippie but I'm a yuppie" mentality common around here. That being said this place kicks safeway's butt! (Safeway that has minimal parking, disgruntled employees, a sparse selection and what they do have has a nice coat of dust...) The only bad thing about this place is that: EVERYTHING is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than I have ever seen it in LA! 4 bags of groceries, mostly store brands and nothing extravagant still cost me about $80! Taking this horrible mark up in to consideration, I really don't think I'll often be back. If I absolutely need something NORMAL (not all berkeley'd out) and I have to choose between safeway and lucky...well then I'll come back...Otherwise, I'll still keep looking for a store that suits my needs without robbing my back account. read more

This is a big box supermarket. They have every day low prices, which I like, since I don't need a bar code keychain. Good selection of produce and dairy and hispanic foods. There are also bulk foods hidden in the corner of the produce area (which also has a great asian section). The people at the meat counter are very helpful when you want something that's not in the case, ditto for the seafood counter. A great one stop shop. There is always someone to bag your grocers and the people that work there are very nice. I like that they hire physically challenged people too. Always very clean. read more

I've been shopping here for a year and I've got to say, I've had the best service I've ever received at a grocery store. Maybe it's because I shop during non-peak hours on weekdays so the employees aren't as busy, but everyone is super friendly and helpful. Employees recognize me, employees stop to say hello to my daughter and every single time I go there an employee always asks if I need help with anything....EVERY SINGLE TIME. Employees always help me find items when I ask, the butcher happily cuts and packages meat for me when it's not on the shelf, the same man always takes my cart when I'm finished loading groceries into my car and when the line has more than 3 people they immediately page another person to open another register which is awesome! Overall, Lucky's has a great sales and selection but you have to price compare with other stores. Although, produce is almost always cheaper at Monterey Market unless it's on sale at Lucky's, eggs are cheapest at Target, bread is cheapest at Lucky's...everything else at Lucky's is comparable to Target food prices. read more

I shop here because it's close to where I live, period. Many strikes against it: it's harder to find stuff because the place is so HUGE. So are they taking advantage of their huge space to carry a great variety of brands? Sometimes; but in many cases they just have long rows of the exact same item. The staff don't seem to like working there, which is probably why the customer service is often apathetic. Handbaskets are few & often not available near the door when you come in; you may have to search for one. They've set up extreme traffic-control in the store - big fence-like barriers forcing you to go to a more distant exit, which is very annoying. I don't like being blocked from leaving a place. I'd hate to be here in a disaster! read more

Personally I prefer Safeway more! But this place is great to travel by Bart and plenty of great places nearby! There are restaurants and shops around for you to shop at. Plenty of parking and staff is okay. read more

I'd I could give a 0 I would my kid needed to use the bathroom I go to the front and ask where's the restroom they said over there I go it was locked. I asked do I need a key she said absolutely u do absolutely and just walked away wtf how about give it to me or tell me where to get it. Then I do the 5 for $25 meats I come home look at receipt got charged full price. Go back got yelled at saying the ham was not part of 5 for 25 I told her 5 times let me show u then she told me to show another cashier so I did then he says yeah your right. I should say this Lucky's is relatively nice and the meat department is pretty good. They always have sales on good cuts of meat, there is always an ample amount of selection. The wines are also inexpensive and the selection is O.K. This place is not fancy or well appointed as some other grocery stores, but the food prices are reasonable, its spacious and there are always plenty of available and open check out lanes. There seems to be a regular homeless person (not sure if he's homeless, but these days you can't use the word Bum) that is always there to greet you and beg for change. They even took away the bench he used to park himself on. This has not dissuaded him. read more

The grocery situation had become dire in my household yesterday, so as is my wont these days I hopped in dem auto and set course for Lucky's. Once I arrived, I quickly recalled why it is that I go to Lucky's instead of Safeway: the staff members are nice. Two examples: 1) The deli counter: The women who took my order yesterday behaved not as if I was a loathsome burden preventing her from diddling her phone or playing grab ass with other employees. Rather, she smiled, greeted me, took my order, and then filled my order. She even asked me if I would like a sample. Really. Just try and get that at Safeway. I dare you. Anyhow, the whole operation took up a whole six minutes of my time which is breath-takingly fast compared to other place, and all the more amazing because there were two people in line in front of me. 2) Checking out: The lady who was at the register was pleasant and friendly. More often than not she's here when I drop in and I usually wind up in her line. She recognized me, and greeted me. Really. Again, I wasn't a burden; she behaved as if I was worthwhile. She didn't insult me, her manner wasn't surly, and no comment was made about my ethnicity. On the other hand, the bag boy was chewing gum, but that's a different matter. By virtue of its essence, 4.5 stars is as high as I can go. Still, relative to the other place, this is Nirvana. read more

I rarely shop at this grocery store due to its far location from my home. Nevertheless, the few times I've shopped at Lucky, I've always been satisfied with their selection, prices, and customer service. I appreciate a grocery store that has sufficient staff to man the registers; a problem that "budget" grocery stores (FoodMaxx) can't help to get right. Consequently, a few days ago, I made my way inside Lucky and got the two items I needed and I was in and out within five minutes. Additionally, the store was busy as it was a Saturday afternoon, but I couldn't of asked for better service or price conscious prices. Lastly, the store also has two Redbox kiosks for $1 DVD rentals. read more

Just left this store and THEY DO NOT CLEAN THE CARTS! I repeat...THEY DO NOT CLEAN THE CARTS! A grown man employee was barely wiping across the handle of the carts with just a ball of paper towels. No spray and I know he was not using wipes because the wipes dispenser was empty (I tried to get a wipe as I entered the store and found they were out and I checked as I left) . I watched him do this as I pushed my cart out of the store. And I could think was that my cart was contaminated!! I thought they were supposed to sanitize the carts, spray them with cleaner???? NOPE NOT AT LUCKYS EL CERRITO! I tried to call the store but no one answered the phone. I called the 800 number and all they'll do is forward my complaint to the store. read more

The employees that are here are lovely, the only star I can give is for them. They give great and friendly service. There is obviously a problem with management here. Remember "threes a crowd"? Not anymore. Expect to wait in line for a really long time at this obviously under staffed location. Cutting corners by not having enough employees in is why I drive further to go to Safeway instead. Also daily fresh baked items are dwindling, probably trying to cut costs there as well. Too bad because selection of meat is good here. That will probably change too. read more

This is my kind of grocery store. They consistently have some of the lowest prices around, it is organized in a way that I understand, and the cashiers are friendly to me. Many of them recognize me and ask how my family and pets are doing! It's not fancy, and you won't find lots of boutique grocery stuff here ("does your asparagus have a large carbon footprint?"), but it's cheap. Complaint: I wish I didn't get accosted by a homeless person or petitioner every time I went to the main entrance. I also don't like the new gate just inside the entrance... it's really annoying, and I've never seen anything like it in any other store. read more

Went In to buy some dog treats( which had a coupon of buy one get one free) used self check out... I scanned both items and scanned the coupon but the machine was giving the full price for both items so I asked for assistance and the lady was rude only helped me with the code and at the end she walked away with the coupon in her hand didn't even put it in the machine which was asking me for the coupon so I had to pay full price for both items which was pretty annoying. Especially since I could of gotten the other bag for free, whenever I get the chance to save money I will...who wouldn't. read more

Its a nice store, but the employees vary...lol... Some are really nice and helpful, but some are just rude...They do not consider helping a mother with a baby first, but they would serve 3 other customers first...Overall experience is not very satisfied...But i like their extra big packages of honey...Really good honey, tasty and excellent price.. read more

They sell all the awesome goodies I can ask for here. Their chips selection is amazing! They also have a whole aisle of just ice-cream and popsicles. But my favorite part of this place is that they appeal to my Lactaid needs. This is the only place that I know of that sells most of Lactaid products. I've seen the pills, the milk, yogurt, and even cottage cheese. Also, this place is huge! Lot of selection and has an abundance of parking. read more

oh hell no. not unless there is literally no other alternative. the guy behind the deli counter is an ass and is rude. most of the people here are. the check out people are usually friendly, but the deli guy is terrible. i used to go here for salads and chicken and he's always ridiculously condesending. please, you work at a supermarket. get over yourself. also, im pretty young, and if you go in on a weekday, they make you pay for your food before you get it. that's right, they get your food ready for you, then give you the sticker, make you walk over and pay for it, then show them the reciept and then they give you your food. what the hell. that's just ridiculous. this is just rude. there will always be an alternative to lucky's. read more

I've been shopping here, on and off, for years. While others here have bemoaned: fish odor, rude employee's...quite the contrary I've encountered some of the nicest staff that could be found in any setting. This is the only grocery store I know of that hires the handicapped (and pays them union wages!)... perhaps that's why one critic here noted that a 'bagger' made a insensitive comment. dunno. But I only shop here for their 'lost leaders,' these are very rarely found in the produce department, but frequently shows up in the meat department, in the guise of 'salmon.' So I love this department, and the uber friendly evening personnel that work it. Sadly, it's this same department that now I'll work more with a nearby 'member ship' store instead. The practice has to do with packaging meat, and hiding a chunk of fat, or other inedible under the meat, or under the label. This practice is ROUTINE at Safeway's, never happens at CostCo, and here... well they hit a new low. I bought a piece of salmon fillet which I judiciously chose, based on apparent texture, date, and lack of 'belly fat'. Guess what... when I got it home and opened the package I found hidden under the label yet another small piece of fish; you got it: a fat cut from the belly of another fish. So although I love the store for it's hiring practices, and the meat department for their friendly staff... I sadly won't shop there again for their uber-deceptive packaging practices; do they also keep a thumb on their scales?... it would be the same thing. What is the point of shopping for a cut of fish based on cut, price, and appearance when they intentionally hide a piece of garbage with the cut? read more

The employees here are miserable. The bagger at the adjacent check stand says aloud "She has a lot of groceries" (looking toward me). She was bagging for people who only had baskets and did not come to help the checker when she clearly needed it more. Its too bad cause the store is fairly clean and well stocked. I used to come to this store several times a week in the morning to grab some coffee before work. As of this morning, that will not happen again. One of the ladies behind the deli counter (9 AM Monday morning) accused me of stealing by shouting across the store. I have no idea why, but it was extremely off putting. I put my groceries down, and walked out. When I tried to call to let the staff know about this problem, I was hung up on. Twice. Never going back. CVS has better deals anyway. this is the WORST market i've been to in a long time!! i don't understand why people come here...is it the high prices?? the lax service?? the confusing layout?? the general icky malaise and depression in the air? i've only gone here when desperate like when i was in the area and running out of time. the last time i went there, i asked to buy a BART ticket and was told, okay you'll have to wait for "her," she's on break. i said okay...the blonde lady told me "it'll be like, ten minutes." i said, "are you kidding? i have to wait TEN minutes to buy a bart ticket?" she said, well "she's" going to the bathroom...it'll be a few mins. HUH???? so i wait, fuming all the while,,,then SHE, the blonde lady, walks over to the "customer service" desk and sells me my ticket!! When this Lucky first opened as an Albertson's, it was fantastic. It had that clean, newness that is so hard to find around here. I drove out of my way to go to this location because it was surrounded by places I shopped and the grocery store nearest me was way too ghetto. I like to have colorful experiences throughout my day, but I do not need attitude when I shop. At Albertson's, it seems like they scouted the nearby stores for staff and bribed them to work there because they were really good a their jobs and friendly to boot. So, after the whole lawsuit thing with the Grocery Outlet, my Albertson's closed down for a few days for a makeover and re-emerged as Lucky. I like the name better, but what happened on the inside? There are no more grocery cards, which I guess is a good thing. They do have "sales" however that do not require a card. The staff has not changed much but they are tired or being efficient and friendly. Now they barely say hello. The offerings have changed slightly as well, so I have had to make substitutes for some of my most favored items. I am just to lazy to go to ten different places to get everything I want, but sometimes, I am tempted out of frustration. Pre- and pos-changeover, they too often run out staple items. They also do not clear out their dated foods often enough so too many times I have had to return an item or toss it out. They do have some great stuff like Magnolia ice cream (mmm, mais con queso is my favorite; try it; you will love it!) and bakery goods are perfectly priced to earn brownie points at work without having to drop a wad of cash. There is a coffee counter inside. I can not remember if it is still a Starbucks. Parking is crowded but always available. The lot is huge. *Please*, before you go, brush up on how to drive through a traffic circle. You would think everyone who drives through here learned on a tractor or something. read more

I shop here often (3 times a week) and I love going to the deli for a sandwich.. but the one time I went there was this Asian man behind the counter that was either jealous of me or thought I was the devil.. because he treated me just terrible! Worst personality ever! read more
