My go-to spot for Asian groceries and snacks, like bok choy, gai lan, Chinese broccoli, tofu, miso, soy sauces, Clover chips, etc. I can pretty much find most things I need for Chinese, Japanese and Korean recipes. Though I will say if you'relooking Vietnamese, Filipino, Indian and Thai ingredients and snacks this grocery store is lacking. As for the space, it's clean, spacious and organized. It's pretty easy to find what you're looking for. Checking out is pretty quick as they usually have a lot of cashiers at the registers and the cashiers ring me up quickly. I wish that they had self-checkout though, would be easier to checkout when I'm only buying a small amount. read more

7/7/2025: Inhaling a LATE Lunch at Ranch 99! This location was one of my frequent, shopping digs when I resided in SF Bay Area. Now, Ranch 99 is my major PIT STOP heading due EAST to my Sierra Foothills Humble Abode. The hot food served here is consistently delicious and never salty or egregiously bland, i.e., the food is cooked just right--period. Forget all of your Asian groceries in Asian needs. Pretty crowded on weekends so I recommend going on a weekday if possible. Parking is pretty good as well. There is plenty of space. Sometimes you have to walk a little bit, but it's not bad at all. Prices are reasonable and you can find all your Asian favorites. A few of mine are the Korean nongshim shrimp chip, pocky's and a variety of Asian flavored chips. Located inside an Asian plaza there are restaurants, shops, and boba cafes. read more

Great place for fish and certain meats that can't be found at other markets. The main gripe I have is their total addiction to plastic packaging in the produce section. For many items which are sold loose in other markets, they package them like meat in styrofoam and cellophane. So you can't just buy one or two serrano peppers. You have to buy the package of 30. It's a decent 99 ranch market comparing to other location. The selections or items are pretty good. It is reasonable clean and spacious.

This has been my go to place for years for fresh seafood. The last two times that I've tried to purchase seafood. It was spoiled. First a few months ago, the clams were spoiled, Yesterday, the black cod was spoiled. Also, I purchased fresh fried perch, and once I got to my car to eat it, it smelled like ammonia. I still think that their array of Produce is amazing and I will stop buying the fish and seafood unless it's swimming in the tank. read more

Gayle and I recently found ourselves at this 99 Ranch Market for a Mitzvah. Our Indonesian trainer at our Gardnerville NV gym was homesick for certain favored cuisine choices, so we immediately offered to do some shopping for her while we were in the Bay Area. Luckily for us, Meike took pictures of what she wanted, as we found that English was not a common language among store staff. That same staff did have great recall, as each picture shown resulted in quick steps to what we were looking for. We made sure to pick out 2 of each and we were quickly checked out and on our way inside of 20 minutes. When we retuned home and presented Meike her groceries, she was soooo happy! I had a walking loop around Albany Hill I liked to walk that took me past this location. This turned out to work well when I was cooking Asian dishes as part of my cooking adventures. Looking up where to find ingredients via Yelp, I was like 'aha, I know where that is'. The parking lot was large and the aisles straightforward to navigate. The entrance to the store itself was tucked inside the mall. Merchandise was well laid out, though it took me a visit or two to get my bearings of where things were located. I was able to find items here I could not find at stores such as Safeway and Target. Workers were friendly and helpful in our interactions. read more

I was excited to find 99 Ranch market literally right across the walkway from where we are just had a pretty unacceptable meal, and I was thrilled to be able to go in and do some quick shopping. This location in Richmond is very well stocked with a great variety of both fruits and vegetables, as well as plenty of other goodies throughout the store. We quickly made our way up and down most of the aisles, and I was quickly able to grab quite a few items that I haven't been able to find local to me in quite some time. Yes, they even had sake, which has been a hard to find commodity on and off throughout Covid. There aren't a lot of people working in the store, and it was fairly quiet, and the shelves were fairly well stocked. They definitely had some glaring gaps of items that they must've been out of. The only downside was the cashier. She was incredibly either unhappy to be working, or perhaps, maybe she's been working all day and just was tired of people. Who knows. I just know that while we were checking out, she asked if we needed bags. Usually when I grocery shop, I bring my own reusable bags, but because I hadn't planned on a shopping trip after dinner, I needed their bags. She originally only offered me one bag, and yes, they do charge for them, and she pulled it out from underneath the cabinet and threw it on the counter. I chose to ignore it, but when we needed a second bag, she did the same thing. Again, maybe she was just really unhappy. This is definitely one of the cleaner 99 Ranch markets that I've been in, and if I'm in the area, I absolutely would stop in again. I know it's an easy go to for things that are difficult to find again local to me. Pricewise, they are definitely not reasonably priced, and better bargains certainly can be found elsewhere. read more

It's a eclectic mix of stores with some authentic Asian cuisine and retail items. The service seems to be quick and genuine which I enjoy both. The smell has a great presence of fish floating throughout it, given they do sell a great deal of seafood fresh to take home and cook.. but it also has prepared food in the restaurants inside. The mall area is a bit empty with several stores closed. It is an older building so if the close to upgrade certain aspects it wouldn't hurt. read more

Honestly, this is the worst 99 ranch I've ever been to. It's unorganized and the manager is gets loud and is super rude. I spoke to her in a normal tone and for the sake of not arguing in front of other people I paid for my things and left. But that was so embarrassing and degrading. All I wanted was to scan my membership to get point and she was literally loud over it instead of trying to explain to us calmly. The vibe was not there. I won't be back. I got a half roast duck and it was $18 after tax. The duck was super tasty, but there was not much meat... It was mostly skin and bones. You can see the container isn't that filled either. The portion size was much smaller than I typically get at other Ranch 99 stores in the bay. The lines are long on the weekend, so try to go on a weekday if possible. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars. 1 - What else would you compare it to? 2 - The staff were all very helpful today. 3 - Inj eoyed the dimsum, pork buns and fish from the hot food area. In produce area there was a good price on very large fuji apples and organic bananas. Got some of each and some Lay's super thin Szechuan pepper potato chips. Those 70g bags were under a fresh produce display. Curiosity pulled me in. They're good. They're very thin and fried in what I think must be almost Kettle chip temp oil. Thin to the point of translucent and almost translucent. There's always durian if you dare. Nice price on yellow mangos today. Rice has really gotten expensive unless you're up for huge sacks of it. They have a great variety. Probably whatever you're looking for. 5lb bags are available and won't break the bank, it's like as with so many other things, you may sometimes shake your head at how prices have gone up. Lots of choices in the frozen food area, the fresh fish counter, the alcoholic beverage area, the bottled drinks, etc., etc. The ambiance? Clean and lots of everything. Parking is easy. If the front parkig lot is full, there are more spots around the back and there are security guards patrolling the parking. If you're not up for cruising around and maybe sometimes using the translation app on your phone to read a label, Ranch99 is on at least on shopping app. You and enter your order and wait for it at home, office, etc. read more

I've been coming to this place for years and am so happy it exists! 99 Ranch has been a true Asian supermarket icon in the Bay Area since 1984. Asian immigrants will feel at home when they see all of the imported products from their hometowns. It has become quite popular through the years as they not only cater to the older generation with traditional fare but also the younger by adding modern fusion items (wasabi crackers and sauerkraut instant noodz). Whenever I want any groceries to make an authentic Asian recipe, I go here because it has everything I need and there are some items you can't find in the mainstream grocery stores. Some of my go-to recipes are shabu (hot pot), fresh spring rolls, soba noodle salad, potstickers. There is fresh produce (bok choy, enoki mushrooms, Thai basil, lemongrass, dragonfruit), variety of noodles, tofu, meats, seafood, sauces, you name it! There's also hot Chinese food you can get to go- I see a bunch line up to get some duck, bbq pork. There's also a bakery and a myriad of Asian cuisine (ramen, sushi, pho, dim sum, shabu, Kbbq, boba) in the indoor mall. I go to this place as a one stop shop for Chinese groceries. I can get most Chinese staples like pickled mustard greens, salted eggs, fresh soy milk/pudding that you can't always find in other stores at the same time. They also have ok prepared foods. It's not as pleasant as your run of the mill supermarket. It's a little cluttered. There are often big boxes stacked in the aisles preventing shoppers from access. The people that stock have been helpful. I've had less luck with a woman with access to the cash register (not at the check out lines), who is not equipped to be customer facing, lacking very basic social skills, raising her voice if you ask a question she can't answer and becoming belligerent. For clientele that care about customer service, this is not the place. You may leave feeling insulted. I think they aren't well staffed because I've tried calling many times and no one ever answers. read more

The best for Asian groceries in the east bay! The best for frozen dumplings and a hugeeee selection of Asian sauces and ramen. I can never find the sauces I need at traditional grocery stores. They have the light, dark soy sauce, hoison, gochuchang, and everything you need for Asian cooking. I love getting the wide noodles that are made in Oakland. They are fresh in saran wrap near the veggie section. This place is also great to make at home hot pot with Asian veggies, fish balls, and thin brisket. read more

Great customer service. Perfect anchor store to the mall. Unique selections. The kid brothers old stomping grounds. I remember we used to get dim sum on Sundays here. Back then the mall and stores were much more happening - but I'm glad to see this supermarket creating foot traffic and keeping the whole place afloat. Very good customer service. Associates were hard at work and still able to give me lots of help and attention. I'm not a regular at this kind of store and I would encourage all that aren't to at least give it a try a couple of times. The products are very different for the average market. This is a supermarket full of asian products, I think there is nothing you can't find there. There are some precooked food you can buy there, you pay according to the size of the package and then you can eat there. There is even live fish and crabs that you can order and they even fry it there is you ask for it. It is not cheap, but at least they have products not easy to find elsewhere. read more

This place has more exotic stuff, more exotic people and as a result literally everything I needed to make an epic exotic birthday dinner for Bae. I came in for fresh crab... oops no crab. Ok Lobstah it is! I came mid day and it wasn't crazy busy (covid likely) and it was mid week as well. So lobstah wok fried with baby ginger, green onions, garlic, and Serrano peppers.maybe I snuck in a bit of white wine and buttah too. I used 4 kinds of garlic in the garlic noods; roasted, fresh shaved dried powdered and jarred. My son still thought it wasn't garlicky enough. However mixed with the lobstah juices it was ...epic. Needed some veg and decided to get green beans mixed with eggplant and Red pepper. Already garlic-d out, I decided to see if they had XO sauce instead for the veggies. Have it? I love this place and find myself coming here more and more often and here is why... I was looking for salmon heads and could not find them anywhere but 99 Ranch. Then I found myself needing thin cut pork belly and remembered I saw that at 99 Ranch. I was intereted in salmon scraps for my broth and the wonderful guy behind the seafood counter bagged them right up. Since the salmon scraps didn't really have a scan I explained to the guy checking me out the unique item with my seafood and he smiled sweetly like this happens every day and said "no problem, you are good". Always a delight going in. I can wander the aisles of foods I've never seen before and the large variety of brands and types of foods I've seen forever. I like that for tofu, it's nearly a whole row of Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc. Each one having it's own subtle differences and texture and flavor. This location is good enough for Japanese food (which is what I'm primarily looking for) but probably better for Chinese. It's inside the mall which has mostly restaurants and a few retail stores for toys. I'm not sure if it's still there but before the pandemic there was also a discoteca. I hope you enjoy wandering around and finding a new ingredient or new tea (so many teas) or try out there dim sum. My dog also enjoys when I bring home raw chicken feet which I freeze or make chicken bone broth with. He loves both and I love having some bone broth for soup as well. Enjoy! read more

This location is hit or miss for me. I'm either able to get in and out within minutes, or I spend at least an hour there trying to find the things I need and standing in long lines. They don't always have staff for cash registers, and some items are hard to find. There is rarely staff to ask about where to find things... But when there is, they're super helpful! Long-standing authentic Asian supermarket with a large selection of East Asian food, produce (hard to find tropical fruit like fresh lychee, dragonfruit, Korean pears, frozen durian), fish/ seafood, and pastries. I love coming here to stock up on asian goodies, condiments, and snacks! They recently just finished the renovation of the mall and it looks great! Very bright, clean, and more modern. The parking lot is huge and plentiful, feels safe as there is a security patrol car now. The ready to eat dim-sum station is great! Fresh dim-sum trays that are served yourself (pick 4 for $4.30) and I love grabbing a Roasted duck whenever I'm here for lunch! Arrive early to guarantee freshness. The prices have definitely increased, just like everything else. It's almost $10 to buy a tiny container of kimchi, and $15 for a bottle of fish sauce! It used to be a fraction of that... fresh meats here for hot pot are also quite pricey.
