So here's the deal. I have no experience "shopping" for a pet, but decided to after many months of failed adoption attempts. I fell in love with Ashley when I first reached out asking her opinion on how Aussie pups might be for a first time puppy owner. She responded with encouraging words within 12 hours (not common btw). I did my research on her very detailed website and began the process. So here's what people don't understand: -Ashley is not going to give one of her pups to anyone. It's not personal, but she's also not going to give a pup to "the highest bidder". If you get through her application process and she feels you're up for the challenge of my pup (at least this is what I assume based off my application) then it seems you'll get approved. -Getting approved doesn't put you on some "list" to get a pup. She is very big on making sure you hold out for a pup that will fit your personality. We got lucky and found a puppy we loved within a few days however we did not expect to get that lucky because Ashley is very frank about the process. -the next step of the process is exactly what she says. -Check you're emails ALOT (we got an email informing us of an available pup at 8pm on a Wednesday night so there is no rhyme or reason, just fate.) -Check social media Facebook/Instagram -If there is a pup you're interested in, email back immediately and DO NOT SEND A DEPOSIT UNTIL SHE GIVES THE GO AHEAD, there is no point! Once you get your pup we were offered and are still being offered endless information and suggestions. That is honestly the best part other than having an extremely well adjusted and happy puppy. I was looking for a reputable breeder for a long time and based on reviews I chose LLA. Now I have very mixed feelings about LLA. I got my puppy in February 2022. There was a huge litter like 10 or 11 puppies, and my puppy was the smallest one. She didn't have the second vaccination set because of her weight. Carol said she was the last one in the litter. Parents were not present at the puppy sale point and also the sale point was in the park, but it wasn't a red flag for me, because all of the good reviews and puppies looked healthy , happy and clean. Long story but our dog was diagnosed with the not curable congenital disease. Before we knew the diagnosis I emailed LLA with the information we had at that time and Carol was professional with her responses and waited for the final diagnosis. But I can't say the same about Ashley. She sent me an email in aggressive tone and blamed me for the sick dog and even mentioned this case should be covered by my insurance not LLA. At this point I had a lot of doubts about their business, every reputable business has insurance for such cases and looked like LLA doesn't have it. After the final diagnosis was released, Carol returned the full amount I paid for my dog. After some back and forth communication LLA shared with me information about two more dogs (siblings) with serious health problems. At the point of selling my pup's litter, they already knew about one dog, but didn't do any additional tests for parents and puppies, and of course didn't disclose this information with the future parents. I wish LLA tests their dogs better, using reputable veterinary hospitals not online DNA labs. read more

Hi everyone. I wanted to take the time to update my review of LLA after having my beautiful dog for over 2 years. I first researched LLA in 2020 as I was looking for a mini Aussie to own. She hit all of the green flags and I decided to put in my deposit to be on a reservation list. For the first 8 months of her life, Selah was an absolute pleasure. So funny, quirky, incredibly smart and sassy. After 8 months however she started to show signs of strange behavior I had never seen in a dog I've owned before. She had extreme resource guarding, leash reactivity, and it was hard to leave things around her. I began to get closer with Selah's siblings parents who have told me they saw the same issues with their dog so I began to think that the issues were genetic. I, along with 2 AMAZING trainers, have worked with Selah to provide management for these issues but after doing some outreach, it seems like MANY dogs from Selah's father's line has the same issues all around. I was scared to bring this up to the breeder and some of my friends have said that Ashley was not only hostile, but threatened them with legal action for slander. JUST THIS MONTH I was made aware that she was inbreeding her dogs and calling it "line breeding". Her dog Betty (who I believe was still a young young puppy at the time of her heat) was bred to her grandfather (the same father of my dog). She has used a double merle as a stud to produce more puppies and she is starting to look like a BYB, something she prided herself in not looking like for many years. The trainers that I go to have a huge portfolio of dogs from LLA and they agree that all around these dogs aren't well balanced. She's commented on my trainers lack of education but in truth if it were not for my trainers, my dog's issues would be severely unmanageable. I love my dog and I wouldn't trade her for the world, my trainers and I have worked for months to provide Selah with better behavior management and she has come a LONG way. I have been waiting to leave a review until my dog has fully matured. This is my experience with Lucky Little Aussies and my experience owning a dog from their breeding program for 2 years. I first found Lucky Little Aussies because I was looking for a reputable breeder after I had lost my ESA due to old age. My ESA was a Aussie mix and I had totally fell in love with the breed and loved the breed as a whole however, she had health issues that I didn't see coming that's why it was important to me to find a well bred dog. I am not an inexperienced dog owner by any means I was raised with German Shepards. However, this was my first search for a breeder as I myself have never gone through a breeder and I had no idea what to look for. At 4 months old I decided to enroll my dog in a 3 week board and train to get a head start because it was important to me if this dog was going to be an ESA he needed to be well behaved. Around 6 months old my dog started to display some pretty intense frustration reactivity towards other dogs, he would get frustrated enough to redirect and bite me. I did all the right things of proper socialization and spent thousands of dollars on training. I never thought I would be able to take my dog out with his intense behavior, even taking him out in my backyard to go to the bathroom he would lunge and try to bite me if he heard or smelled another dog. He is now 2 and there is not one day that I do not need to manage his behavior, I am always on alert for triggers so that I can make sure my dog is safe and his triggers are safe from him. I thought this dog would be an emotional support animal for me but I have turned into an emotional support human for him. While I love my dog so much, it really pains me how heavily managed he will need to be for the rest of his life. I now myself am a dog trainer and I work with Lucky Little Aussies dogs that have very dedicated owners that continue to struggle with their dogs behavior(s) even with training management. I cannot believe that it got to the point, where I have to write this review. I found L.L.A in 2019 through Good Dog and thought I found a reputable and ethical Breeder in Lucky Little Aussies. Ashley was great in answering my questions and making me feel confident in the program. When I got Simba (former Jerry) she disclosed that that litter was from a friend of hers but that she owns several dogs (like Max) from that breeder and had never seen any issues in that line. I was so overjoyed with my experience and that I finally got my puppy, that I left a great review on her Facebook page (which by now I have removed). I also connected with some littermate owners and several different LLA puppy owners on Instagram. I was the person (with another friend) that coordinated the Fort Funston Beach Meet-Ups and I was super passionate about reuniting the LLA community in the Bay Area (I did all of this out of my own choice). Since this was my first own dog (I had family dogs before) I was super excited to do everything right and immediately signed him up in puppy classes at the Animal Humane Society nearby, even though he did do great in the class, he already showed signs of anxiety and reactivity, which at that time, I didn't really put together. As time passed, his reactivity towards puppies, then in general dogs and strangers progressed. Over the last 3 years, Simba and I have worked with several different trainers for obedience and have worked on managing his reactivity. I stopped the meet ups at the beach because Simba was way to reactive towards the other dogs. I have always kept Ashley in the loop and she was always compassionate in giving me advice and make me feel confident about being a great mom to Simba. However, every time I mentioned to her that trainers would say that Simba's behavior is a genetic trait, she would deny that assumption and assured me that there has been no signs of any reactivity in my dogs family line or any of the dogs she personally owns. I trusted her word and even considered Ashley a friend of mine, we even met her again at her new place to catch up and for her to see Simba again. However, over the last two years, I have been silently watching LLA breeding style and I, in my opinion, have not been liking what I have been seeing. They have been breeding female dogs that are under a year old (A dog is mature at 2 years old). They bred two merles as well as breeding Walter, who is a double merle and deaf to another female dog and now she has started to inbreed her other dogs by mating the grandfather to his granddaughter. As a friend, I privately send her a message about my concerns with her current program. I stated to please reconsider her breeding style as well as reconsider the dogs she has been breeding because of reactivity issues I have discovered in several different LLA puppy owners that have experienced the same issues. I was shocked, when she switched her personality and threatened me with a lawsuit, if I would ever say anything negative about her business. (You can see our conversation on the FB puppy post of "Scrat" (March 7, 2023), as she has screenshotted our conversation and posted it publicly). In that message, she also mentioned that she retired most of her dogs from the Cowtown Mini line (Cowtown Mini is a breeder) as she has seen some issues in their line. That statement has confused me a lot, since she has told me several times that she has not seen any issues in my dog family line and most of the litters from 2022 have a parent or grandparent from the Cowtown mini kennel line, including (Nevada, Max, Sierra, Sitka, Berlin, Jasmine, Mia, Rosie, Rainbow). With this review I would like to warn anyone to do their diligent before buying a dog from Lucky Little Aussies. As of today, I love Simba to death and I would never change a thing now but if I would have known, what I know now about this breeder, their procedure in health testing their dogs and my dog's reactivity, I would have never bought this dog or any other dog from Lucky Little Aussies. read more

I have never personally purchased a dog from this breeder. I am however a dog trainer, and over the past few years I've worked with several dogs from LLA. I've been following their breeding program throughout this time. As a trainer I've noticed a pattern of poor/unstable temperaments in the dogs from this breeding program. I continue to see issues ranging from severe reactivity from a very young age, resource guarding, high anxiety, being extremely high strung (even for Aussies). LLA is not the only breeder from which I've trained multiple dogs- but it is the one breeder from which I see such strong patterns of poor nerves/temperaments within the lines. Most of these dogs' behavioral issues require lifelong management, as opposed to truly resolving the issues. I know countless devoted, committed LLA owners who put endless time and money into training- their dogs' behavioral issues are not due to lack of training or effort on their owners' ends. As I've followed along with their breeding program, I've seen several red flags in their breeding practices. A few things to note- -Breeding a double merle litter due to not testing one of the parents to know that she was a cryptic merle -Using a double merle stud dog and claiming it to be safe -Claiming parent dogs are all OFA tested, only for buyers to realize they are not (once they have already chosen a puppy and are signing the contract, when many are too emotionally invested to back out) -Inbreeding -Breeding female puppies under a year old on first heat -Selling 4/5/6 month old puppies who have never been socialized and as a result many are SEVERELY fearful/fear aggressive -Discounting puppies because they weren't selling -Blaming any behavioral issues/instability in the dogs on their owners -Threatening legal action against those who speak out about things mentioned above I highly advise against getting a puppy from LLA due to their unethical breeding practices and the pattern of poor temperaments I have seen from these dogs. It's sad to see so many dogs from this breeder and their owners struggling with issues that they are likely to always struggle with to some degree. read more

I purchased my dog in Sept 2021. He was the last of his litter and 15 weeks old, so I did not go through the normal puppy picking process that other families might have if they had been following a particular litter early. I found him available through LLA's Instagram and Facebook posts and submitted an application, letting them know that this would be my first dog and that I was looking for a lower or medium energy dog to fit my lifestyle. I picked LLA as a breeder mainly because of the story they had on their website describing their experience with BYB dogs and trusted their promises about health testing and OFAs for all their breeding dogs. This was important to me as I shared when I first met my puppy since I have a close friend with a dog with severe hip dysplasia and did not want to go through the same experience. Health Related Experiences I realized after I had already placed a nonrefundable deposit on my puppy that neither of his parents had been OFA tested as described on their website, but they assured me that there was no history of any health issues in any of their lines. They told me that they had not had time to test those particular dogs because vets had been closed due to COVID. I felt that it was already too late to back out since I had placed the deposit so I decided to trust them and went through with buying my puppy. About two months later I learned from his litter mate's Instagram post that he had been diagnosed with significant Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD), at under 6 months old. At under two years old, that dog has undergone three hip replacement surgeries since then to try to correct the issue. LLA never reached to let me know that this occurred in a puppy from the same litter, and I would have had no idea if I hadn't found them on Instagram. After this happened they advertised a new litter from the same breeding pair, and at least one of those puppies is also struggling with serious health concerns. I don't know if those families had been informed of the history of CHD in the previous litter or their littermate's health problems. At the time of this review, I have only been able to find two dogs registered to LLA on the OFA website, Max and Rosie, though it's possible there are others that I missed. When I took my puppy to his first vet checkup, my vet asked for his health records. After providing the papers from LLA, he explained to me that the vaccines had not been administered by a licensed vet, and that he recommended an extra vaccine dose to be safe. My vets have also not been able to scan the microchip that he should have, so I needed to get that done myself as well. I am still not sure if this is normal practice for most breeders to vaccinate their puppies themselves, but I was surprised as it never occurred to me that vaccinations could be administered outside of a veterinary practice. When I reached out to LLA about this to ask some questions, they were not able to provide proof that the vaccines were stored and administered correctly, and accused me of not trusting them, so I let the matter drop. Over the last couple of years, he has developed multiple cysts on his body, mainly on his back and one recently on his head. So far they have all been benign, but it is something that I need to look out for when a new one appears to check at the vet. He has mild seasonal allergies that cause his eyes to get red and crusty. I have been able to treat this with Benadryl. Temperament My dog is extremely smart and picks up new tricks and anything I try to teach him very quickly. I would not say he has a medium energy level - he is definitely a high energy dog. I do not think that he was a good choice for a first time dog owner. He was fairly well behaved in the early months and eager to learn. Once he got to around 5 or 6 months old, he started to show signs of reactivity toward other dogs (fixating, barking, and lunging so hard that he was choking himself). This got progressively worse over the next couple of months until I was finally able to find a trainer who could help. I worked with multiple trainers and spent thousands of dollars on classes, private lessons, and a board and train for him. He still requires a lot of work to practice and keep up with his training, but I am now at a place where I feel confident taking my dog out without having to hide or run away from other dogs. TLDR; Over the last year I have learned a lot about reputable dog breeders and if I had known then what I know now, I would not have purchased a puppy from LLA. I wanted a well bred dog for the peace of mind that a healthy proven line provides and I have not found that with my dog. I am concerned about the possibility of him developing hip dysplasia and have spent a of time, energy, and money managing his reactivity. If LLA sees this review, I hope they work to improve and deliver on the promises that they make to their clients, for the sake of the puppies they bring into the world. read more

So disappointing. Drove an hour and a half (one way!) to a scheduled, confirmed meeting, only to have no one there. A little strange that the meeting place was at a park in Lathrope, when the business is listed in Manteca. Called the number on the email confirmation and the lady claimed she had messaged me earlier that morning canceling as her husband had to go out of state last minute. (Quadruple checked - no message) We could hear puppies barking in the background, so why we couldn't have met her where she was and why she didn't call, knowing how far we were driving and that it was the same day is beyond unprofessional. It saddens me to leave a negative review but here it is. I had such high hopes for LLA. I did all my research and what I saw on the surface looked promising. Move to where I met Ashely and Carol and some puppies ,they sounded knowledgeable and were very nice and supportive. I picked up my puppy and we went home. She was a dream! She was curious and confident! Then at 6 months it was like a flip of a switch and she became reactive. She would excessively bark and lunge at all dogs and people. I would cry every day and felt so lost. I reached out to Carol and asked if the parents had issues or any of Kida's sibblings and she said not that she knew of. She recommended me to a trainer in LA who had a full sibling of Kida but a year older from a different litter who was struggling with the same issue. That was immediately a red flag to me. We worked virtually with that trainer for a bit but eventually found one closer to us who could board and train. With there help Kida and I have gotten to a place where her reactivity is manageable but it hurts me to see her struggle to go through life. There are good and bad days and the bad days are really tough and frustrating. I paid a lot of money for my puppy and I love her to death but nothing prepared me for the amount of time and money I needed to spend later on behavior correction training. And I know of many of her full and half siblings who are dealing with the same issues. Her temperament is wonderful I have never met a sweeter, cuddlier, goofier pup. She deserves better than to live her life in constant struggle and I do my best as a dog owner to give her that. read more

Getting to know & working with this family of LLA has been the best experience we've ever had when looking for the right breeder for Mini Aussies. The love, education, care in genetic testing, hands on socializing & the list goes on is unheard of when you go out on your search to find the right pet for your own family. I have learned so much from Ashley. She taught me how to potty train with horse pellets, which we continue to use daily especially when we're gone during the day, what type of good quality food to give, socializing, exercise, microchipping brands, dog toys & treats, what to give & what to stay away from, especially chew bones. Ashley continues to check in on how you & your pup are doing, which I love & value. I've never heard of a breeder that does any of that. We love L.L.A! Ashley was amazing from start to finish - (actually, she still is!) Our tri mini is absolutely amazing, she does so much I think a lot of breeders don't bother with...on top of getting Volhard results, personality descriptions, prey drive ratings, and so much MORE, she also did things like sound desensitization, socialization, playing with their teeth and paws so they are used to nail clippings and tooth-brushing from day 1! Our girl was also already fully litter trained! We could not be happier with our choice in breeder. Since we aren't personally showing our pup, we were so happy to find a breeder that doesn't dock tails or remove dew claws by default. Ashley also has been available for any questions we've had since we brought our pup home and she's really supportive of choices we make and gives us all the knowledge she can to help us make the best choices for our family/lifestyle. I personally also really appreciate the extra effort she has had to make to keep our puppies safe, (humans, too!) and how much extra sanitation was required during this pandemic, so we know when we picked her up we were at no risk and our puppy wasn't either. 10/10 would recommend!! read more

This review is so long overdue, I have meant to write this forever and have wanted to report of yet another fantastic experience with LLA to add to the list. Mine is solely on customer service as I heart breakingly wasn't able to take home one of the LLA's gorgeous dogs in the end (due to timing and circumstance)... and looking at this FB page makes me so so sad it did not work out as there are so many beautiful and well adjusted dogs on here, its so wonderful to see. Ashley is such a rare and incredible human.. one who goes FAR beyond the extra mile to match her beloved pups with their families. She is thoughtful, compassionate, patient, intelligent, an incredible expert in her field. She puts her dogs first and cares for each and every one with love and tenderness. She knows about a million times more than any other breeder I spoke with during my search, by a landslide. I had gone back and forth between getting a rescue or purebred (and which breed) and the first time I reached out to Ashley on the phone she spent at least an hour on with me, patiently answering ALL my questions, informing me about Aussies in general and her dogs, explaining what sets her apart from other breeders, how they very carefully measure and pair drive and temperament with families lifestyles, asking questions about my family to understand exactly how to provide the best pairing with one of their future dogs. I was sold. Unfortunately I had a vision of a dog in my head that was so specific and I had too many deal breakers. So due to this and some timing issues, I was not able to get one of the LLA pups. But between this happening and my first convo with Ashely, she patiently, over the course of a YEAR, had a million more conversations with me, trying to pair up multiple sets of her dogs to create my impossible dream pup. I even got the chance to meet some of the pups that would have been siblings of our potential future dog and they were so adorable, so well natured and sweet. She so wanted to give me what I wanted and bless her for trying so damn hard! I must have emailed her a million times with question after question and she never got impatient, only continued to respond quickly and helpfully to answer every inquiry. In the end, when things so sadly did not work out, she even refunded me my deposit and again went well over the call of duty to give me 100% satisfaction. Hopefully one day I will still be able to finally get my dog from LLA, (I am not giving up!!) and I would go straight to them in a heartbeat, 2000%, before heading to anyone else. read more
