We brought home our girl Indiana from classic heritage a year ago and she's been such a great new member of our family. She's a total Velcro pup but without any separation anxiety. She has a love of hunting down our socks but has not chewed on or destroyed any furniture. Great with us, our kids and other dogs! She's such a happy, confident, friendly and Healthy pup! I've had my gorgeous boy Beary for about 1.5 years now, and he's turning 2 this year. He came from Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers. I grew up with two Golden Retrievers from a breeder in the UK. When I compare my experiences with them to my experiences with Beary, I can say that I have had a much easier time with Beary. Heather sure knows her stuff when it comes to breeding, and she has the best puppy trainers around. Beary already knew many of the basic commands when he arrived and was trained to go to the bathroom in a litter box. Beary is sweet-natured and funny. Playing fetch with him is more entertaining than watching TV. He has no health issues, is very intelligent, and he's always good but perhaps sometimes just a little mischievous! He learns quickly and is very well-behaved. He's also extremely beautiful, loves to cuddle, and is very caring. There's nothing more I could have asked for. Thank you, Heather, for all you do. We had a terrible experience with Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers, and especially Heather. We contacted Heather to inquire about an 18 month old adult dog for sale. After the initial communications, we decided to book a flight and go see the dog. Only one of our 4 family members (we have 2 children) could make the trek on short notice as Heather informed us that they wanted to make a decision quickly (within a matter of days) and we were excited at the prospect of the dog joining our family. So, my wife flew to Sacramento, rented a car and drove out to visit with Heather and the dog. The session went very well and Heather told us that, if we wanted to purchase the dog, we needed to get back to her within 48 hours. My wife came home and our family discussed the dog and were excited to add the dog to our family so we let Heather know (within 48 hours) that we were ready to move forward with the process. Well, we didn't hear back from her so we followed up the next day. Again, we didn't hear back from her, so we followed up again and again. All in all, we called, emailed and texted her multiple times across multiple days. We never received a single response from her or anyone at the company. So after about 2-3 weeks, we gave up. We were pretty heart broken as you can appreciate, dogs are awesome and having identified a specific dog, visiting with it and understanding that he was available for us to purchase, then being complete ghosted, hits hard. Well, a few days later (about 3 weeks in total after we flew out to see the dog) Heather reached out via email and told us she was happy to share that we had been selected to purchase the dog and she would be following up with another communication that contained the contracts and information about the logistics of getting the dog to us. Well, after just shy of 2 days, we didn't get the follow up email or documents from her so we reached out to make sure she knew we were ready to move forward. For once, she actually responded but in this response she said it took us too long to respond so she began looking for another buyer and had set up additional appointments. What?? "TOO LONG"????? First off, her email said she was going to follow up with us with the contract and specifics. We thought we were waiting for her to follow up with us. Second, despite her communication clearly saying she was going to follow up with us, we proactively reached out to her 2 days later because we hadn't heard back from her. We reached out even though we thought we were waiting for her next communication and we didn't want there to be a recurrence of the prior ghosting. Also we didn't want to hound her as it seemed like she wanted to move at a slow pace given her absolute lack of any response for 3 weeks. But apparently, that was not the case and once again, we followed up with her multiple times making it very clear we absolutely wanted to move forward with the purchase and to please not reopen the search as we were ready to take any and all steps necessary. Well that was weeks ago and once again, we never got any kind of a response whatsoever to any of our communications. I just don't understand how she can operate like this. She told us, in no uncertain terms, we had "won" and the dog was ours to purchase. There are strong emotions involved and our kids are totally deflated from this emotional rollercoaster of being told we could buy the dog then getting no response to getting confirmation that we were chosen to get the dog to once again be ghosted. This whole experience was horrible and I hope no one else ever has to go through this with this company. Oh and did I mention we were already customers of Classic Heritage owning a 3+ year old golden we purchased from them in 2022. We are a known entity to them, and we were looking to be happy repeat customers but instead, this is the treatment we received. We take our current Golden on walks/hikes every single day and it is very common for people to stop and ask us about her and where we got her. Up until now, we were happy to share that information and pass along complements for the breeder but no longer. From this point forward, we will be telling everyone not to do business with this breeder. read more

We got our sweet Lani from CHGR March 2023! And she has been the sweetest addition and perfect fit to our family. We truly can't imagine life without her now! The entire process with the team at CHGR was amazing and we will never go to another breeder again. They are knowledgeable, accommodating, and truly want to make sure each puppy goes home with the right family for them! We got Lani at 13 weeks so she received extra training! Everyone who meets Lani thinks she is the most well behaved, loving pup with the most unbelievable temperament. I tell everyone I know to go to CHGR! We are from San Diego and made the 8+ hour drive to get her, she was amazing the entire way home. Like any puppy in a new home it takes consistency to keep their commands and continue to teach obedience. Lani is so obedient and has no behavioral issues whatsoever. I attribute this to her amazing bloodline and our parenting as well! Lani is living her best Southern California lifestyle on the beach in Oceanside! She loves swimming in the ocean, playing with all dogs she meets, catching squirrels (haha), watching the seagulls, eating fish her fisherman brother catches, laying in the sun, playing with kids (she is so gentle with young kids and babies and actually gravitates towards them) and of course getting lots of love and cuddles from her family. Best dog ever and so smart. Super sweet, gentle and confident. We got our crown puppy Indy May 2020. She came all trained up and fit right into our family. Crate trained and basic commands. Indy loves these puppy rings that Heather uses. We use them too and we don't have trouble with her crewing up anything. Indy is the most beautiful dog with a beautiful coat. We get compliments everywhere we go. Everyone wants to know where we got her from. Heather's dogs are in high demand and we felt so lucky to get our puppy. Indy loves to play and matches everyone's energy. She is gentle with little ones and great with our older family members, too. Indy loves people. She only barks at bears, squirrels or danger or other naughty dogs. Indy has scared off a couple bears too. Indy has a good big bark. She wasn't that old. We were a asleep each time and didn't know why she was going bonkers. Checked the camera and sure enough. They never came back either. Lol. These puppies are like getting a Porsche of dogs. The review that said not potty trained. Did they put the wood pelts box by the door? When we first got her when Indy had to go potty and we didn't get to the door in time....she would run right to the box and go there. They are like toddlers when you first get them....and when they have to go....they have to go right now. Once Indy was closer to 5 months we didn't need the box anymore....their bladders grow. We had a wonderful experience with CHGR! Our puppy Dolly is now 5 months old and our house feels like a home again. When we picked her up at 10 weeks (no additional training), she already knew basic commands like sit and touch. She also never had any issue going into a crate at night time from day 1. Dolly has such a sweet temperament. Of course she has her rambunctious puppy times and loves to get the Zoomies, but she also loves to cuddle, plays very well with my kids and sits every time she meets a stranger. DO NOT BUY TRAINING FROM THIS BREEDER!!!! IT'S A SCAM!! The only reason I gave a one star is that we purchased a puppy and he's a good-looking dog. Other than that they screwed us over in every way and the communication was horrible and increased the price on us and forced us to Pay it.  We choose the highest level of training 16 weeks and paid over $16,000 with them to get a puppy that doesn't even know his name.  From there when the puppy had to go from San Diego to Northern Cal for training we didn't hear from them or respond for a long time and when we were supposed to talk with Heather on the phone for a scheduled phone call she texted me saying I am stuck in traffic and will call you later and never heard from her and we were getting very frustrating and it's very disrespectful. After that when I reached out and said this is not ok and really complained we scheduled a zoom couple of times a week to check on the progress of the training.  Now when it gets interesting, every time we have a zoom call with the trainer they will say he's tired we were just doing work with him outside and we would be just happy to see him and it's our fault for not pushing to see him actually working. They did send a couple of videos edited with doing some basic commands but you can get the dog to do anything for a few seconds and shoot the video but not the promised training.  When it was time for them to bring him down to us in AZ they called us and said it's over $1,200 more than what we agreed on because "gas and rental prices went up" are you kidding me!!! We had no choice but to agree especially when it was less than a week.  When we got him the trainer was with him and he tried to do some basic commands and he wouldn't listen and attached some videos for that, not only that but there's absolutely no knowledge of the dog knowing all the commands/training that was promised on their site. And of course, he says here and we have it on video he's probably tired from the long car ride. He has been in training for over 3 months and there's no freakin way he was getting trained every day NO WAY! After day one I reached out to them and said we are very frustrated because he doesn't even know his name! I said we will give him the weekend to settle maybe he's stressed out and will see and still nothing no knowledge of the commands at all and not potty trained. Then we got 2 professional trainers that are very reputable opinions and they said we are very sorry but he doesn't know the basics of anything let alone everything they promised on their site.  I reached out and told them that and the response was if you are not happy we can take him back and full refund of the dog but we are not refunding you the training. I said this is not fair since in their contract it's 2 separate things. I responded and said that's not fair for my family to go through this, especially after all this frustration and them being attached and waiting for the puppy for over 3 months. Then the response was it can be your fault for not doing the commands right and also we can't talk any other opinion from any professional person because they have something to gain. Also, they changed what the website used to say with the training after our communication and told them this is not what's on your website which is another thing of showing they try to promise everything and deliver nothing other than the puppy! I tried to communicate multiple times with them and try to reason and they are stuck on either they take him completely back or give me $1500 back or it's what it's pretty much... Are you kidding me $1500 from 11k just in training?!!!!!!! and they completely stopped responding.  I reached out and said I really don't want to do this but I will engage my lawyers and from that time they didn't respond and they think I am bluffing. We are filing for a lawsuit this week and I wonder how many people this happened to other than us. read more

In December, we had the good fortune to pick up our 10 week old puppy from Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers. Our Sophie is smart, beautiful, sociable, and just so much fun to have around! From the moment we brought her home, she has slept through the night in her crate, which has been such a pleasant surprise. Thanks to the training she received before coming to us, she already knew some basic commands and has responded well to our training of her. The session with the trainer on pick up day was very helpful as well. She has been great with all of the people and dogs she has come into contact with. We highly recommend Classic Heritage because our experience with the entire team and the adoption process itself has been so favorable. We recently adopted an English Cream Golden Retriever from Classic Heritage. My daughter had been asking for a new puppy for awhile, specifically an English Cream Golden. I came across their website when I started the search. After researching breeders in NorCal, Oregon and Utah we decided to put a deposit down last June with Classic Heritage for a puppy. It was important that they provide genetic screenings for all of the dogs they breed, provided training for all puppies before they go home along with giving them with a loving and caring environment. We brought our dog Angel home a few months ago. She's now 4 months old and has fit right in with our family since day 1. We highly recommend Heather and her wonderful staff!! read more

I came across Classic Heritage Farm when I did a search on English Golden Retriever in the area. Their website definitely provides a lot of useful information about the breed and also the entire process of getting a puppy. We were lucky that we were only on the waiting list for 6 months before we got our puppy, Chanel. With the high demand, I think the wait time is much longer now to get a puppy. We got Chanel when she was about 11 weeks old. She already had her first set of shots done. She has already been through some kind of training at that point. She knew how to "Come, Sit, Down, Place, Off" and in the process of learning "Heel". She was also supposed to potty trained and crate trained at their facility. I believe most puppies at that age don't know all these commands yet and most breeders do not provide such kind of training before pick-up. The first time we met Chanel at the Farm, we got to meet with Heather and the trainer. They patiently showed us all the things that Chanel could do and how to continue to train her. We got to spend some quality time with her. They wanted to make sure that Chanel was a good fit to our family before we took her home. We spent over an hour there at our first visit. We went back the following weekend to pick up Chanel where we spent additional time with the trainer to go through all the commands again. They were very detail oriented with their checking out process to ensure that all puppy owners have a successful start with their puppies. The first day that we took Chanel home, she has already slept through the night in her crate (over 9 hours of sleep) without any potty break in the middle of the night. She did not even whine. We were so impressed. It took additional few weeks for her to potty trained at our house and she knows how to use the bell at the door to let us know that she needs to go outside, something that she learnt at Classic Heritage Farm as well. This is our first family dog. We are so happy that we got such a beautiful and healthy puppy. I heard from my friends that most of the breeders usually release the puppies at 8 weeks old. I think the 10 week program that Classic Heritage Farm offers is such a plus. It allows the puppy to get the extra 2 weeks of growing up and the extra training is definitely worth it. If we were to get another English Golden Retriever in the future, we will for sure come back here. read more

We obtained our first golden retriever from Classic Heritage. Having had border collies and Australian cattle dogs my whole life, we fell in love with our neighbors 4 year old classic heritage golden retriever Oliver, and decided to visit. We were immediately impressed by the care and effort put into making sure these dogs are not closely breed, giving them the best genetic chance to be healthy, with amazing temperaments. We chose Sawyer, a 12 week old puppy with three weeks of training. The puppy training before, did not replace regular training and potty training, but Sawyer was definitely ready to learn and understood how to learn. It was great to have him started on potty training and taking basic commands. He has been an enthusiastic learner and we are delighted. My partner and I had an amazing experience with everyone at Classic Heritage, from our initial email inquiry, to our reservation process, to pickup day. We now have our little angel, an 11 week old puppy, and she is everything we could have hoped for and more. I am so grateful to Classic Heritage for our new family member!! We recently got our Golden from Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers and we love our new addition to our family. He gets along amazingly well with our other Golden and they quickly became best friends. We feel so lucky to have two great dogs. Truly, they are wonderful dogs and are so good with our two young daughters who are 2 and 5. Even being a puppy, our new dog is so patience, comes to us when he is called and allows our children to pet him and snuggle with him. We are so happy to have added him to our family. However, we paid for their Crown Golden Reserve which are dogs trained to have certain commands and be potty trained. This was a LOT of money. Close to ten thousand dollars. We have owned puppies before and are well aware of the time, patience and responsibility it takes to care for a new puppy. However, our puppy had many accidents in our home in several places. He actually had one while I was writing this review in our living room. We understood it would take maybe a couple weeks for him to adapt to his new enviroment, but it is taking MUCH longer than that. He's been with us almost two months now. We exchanged friendly emails with Heather and her husband about how this should not be happening at this point, especially because he was supposed to be trained. We kindly asked for a small reimbursement as we paid for this NOT to be an issue. But they have neglected to respond to our last email and their previous email stated that they would not provide any kind of refund. We feel extremely disappointed as our dog should not be having accidents any longer. We take him out every two hours and give him plenty of outside and excerise time. In the beginning they brought up maybe a UTI or some kind of bladder situation. But we went to the vet and this was not the case. We feel for the large amount we paid for a dog to be trained, some kind of reimbursement should be made as he isn't (or wasn't) fully trained in this area. Heather and her husband were kind and friendly during our process of coming to meet them and chosing a dog. They are knowledgable and provide lots of information about their litters. We appreciated all of that. We just feel very disappointed that they neglected to provide some kind of refund for something we PAID for to be taken care of. That was part of the purchase price for a Crown Golden Reserve. It's very discouraging. read more

I have waited several months to review this breeder because I wanted to be fair and give her every chance to respond to my concerns. I have since met three other families who have bought dogs from her and have the same complaints that I do so I decided to write this review. I purchased my English Cream Golden Retriever puppy from Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers located in Newcastle, Ca in August 2016. My puppy was diagnosed almost immediately with a urinary tract infection which persisted for 4 months and cost about $1,000 to treat. Once the urinary bacteria was cultured and turned out to be staph, the vet mentioned that the breeder might want to know as it was almost certainly acquired at the kennel. The vet was also treating one of my pup's litter mates for the same infection. I texted the breeder and made sure to keep the message informational rather that accusatory. After all, when you have more than one litter born within weeks of each other, I'm sure something as subtle as a UTI wouldn't be obvious unless you were paying really, really close attention to the puppies. I was surprised to receive a text back pretty quickly as communication with her had been non-existent once the pup went home with me. The response was along the lines of "sorry to hear your puppy is sick....hope she gets better". There was no curiosity about the specifics of the infection, or concern over having sold, for a premium price, at least 2 puppies that were not 100% healthy. I wasn't asking for reimbursement of the vet fees, I was just hoping that she might want to know exactly what was wrong with these pups so she could prevent future litters from contamination. In addition, I have since talked to 3 other owners who purchased from Classic Heritage, some of them first time dog owners, who told me the breeder would not respond to numerous texts, emails or calls when they had questions or concerns in those first few weeks. Once your money was paid and you took your pup home, that was it. There was no follow up and certainly no concern over whether these pup owners had questions or issues. Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers charges $3,500 and upwards for their puppies. They are lovely dogs. However, I have since been unable to find any other breeder either in or out of state that charges anywhere near that for their puppies. Overpaying for my puppy is on me though. I should have researched it better. I justified the high cost thinking that if I had to travel out of state to bring a pup home or pay a breeder to ship a pup to me, that the price would be equal. I was wrong. Plenty of out of state breeders charge so much less for quality dogs that even if I had chosen to fly somewhere and pick up my pup, it still would have been significantly cheaper. I love my puppy and am enjoying seeing her grow into an intelligent adult dog and a beloved member of our family. However, I wanted to warn anyone else who might be thinking of purchasing a puppy from this breeder that they will be utterly & completely on their own after purchase, and the breeder will almost certainly totally ignore their questions or concerns once she has their money. I chose to buy a puppy from Classic Heritage Golden Retrievers because I believed she was a responsible breeder. All I can say is do your research, talk to other owners and don't fall for a flashy website or cute puppy videos. I now belong to a both a Facebook group and a Meet-Up group for owners of English Cream Golden Retrievers and can tell you there are many, many quality breeders located both in California and in other parts of the country who do not abandon the owners and puppies once they have been sold. Many breeders are great sources of information and support for new puppy owners and stand behind the health of their pups. I have been in contact with several owners who purchased elsewhere and then discovered the pup had UT infections or other minor health problems. In every case, the breeder offered support, advice and in a majority of cases, some type of monetary compensation. One even reimbursed the owner for all expenses. This is not about the money for me. I just wanted my experience to be out there so other prospective puppy parents can make an informed and educated decision. UPDATE: it's been almost 2 years since my puppy was born. Heather is unable to provide me with my dog's AKC registration papers because she never registered my dogs mother with the AKC, hence my dog can never be registered. Was looking for an English Golden Retriever breeder and found their website. Contacted them and found out about an open house on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Went to check them out; I wanted to make sure I was going to be dealing with a good breeder that I had confidence in. Heather was able to answer all my questions. I was impressed with their operation. That visit led to putting a deposit down and getting a puppy. Heather sent email newsletters with information when the puppies were born and as updates on their development. We got to visit when they were a little older, came back to select our puppy two weeks later, and brought him home the week after that. I appreciated the option to pay our balance early; I received a discount and a "puppy package" of extra items when we picked him up. Alex was very helpful, always available to answer questions. They had a trainer present on one of the visit days and she was very helpful in providing information and answering questions. We picked up our English Cream Golden Retriever almost 6 weeks ago and she has been a wonderful addition to our family. From the start, the whole CHGR family has been great to work with ,kept us informed and made purchasing a golden a dream come true. Our little girl came to us sleeping thru the night in her crate, knew a few command words and within a week, she was telling us she needed to go outside to go potty. We literally have had only 3 accidents total in the 6 weeks that we have had her. She is so smart. We also love that we got an information sheet on our pups personality, that really helped us know how better to train her. She has melted the hearts of the whole family and we feel so blessed to have her. My experience with Classic Heritage has been wonderful. I found them through an internet search for English creams. I filled out the contact request and received an email from Heather the next day. I was then contacted about an open house in December 2017. I went to that and was very impressed by their operation, the care of their dogs and puppies. I put down a deposit that day because I wanted a puppy from them. The staff are all very helpful and you are kept informed of the litters that are born through email. You also receive an email explaining the whole process and when you are scheduled to see your puppy. I got to visit puppies at 4 weeks old and then was able to pick my puppy at 8 weeks old. I decided to have my puppy trained there for 4 additional weeks. The trainer, Carrie, is so good with the puppies and you can tell she cares about all of them. I visited my puppy once a week and learned how to continue with the commands she learned. At 12 weeks I picked my puppy up. All the staff, Heather, Ed, Alex and Carrie were there and were available to answer any questions. They give you information pamphlets, food, a toy that your puppy picks out, a blanket with the mom's scent on it and a new leash and collar. My puppy has been home with me for three weeks and she is an absolute delight. I have been contacted by Alex to make sure everything is going well and to see if I had any questions. I feel that I couldn't have gotten a better puppy anywhere else. Classic Heritage, from my experience, is the BEST. read more
