I got two tattoos here a couple years ago. The tattoo artist I had was Steve Flores. He doesn't work at lucky monkey anymore and I hope he isn't tattooing at all. He was one of the main tattooers here for years and he was squinting doing my tattoos and I just trusted him. The first one he did was okay just definitely not professionally done (blowouts from too much pressure and close placement of elements) was 250. It was my first tattoo and we both knew it had to be a certain size to avoid that but he still did it because of his technical errors. I got my tattoos within the same week (stupid) and my second tattoo same problems. I actually have a tattoo by another artist who now works here but tattooed me at Suicide Kings. Nate D. I know this is one place you thought that EBS would never be, but some times you have to live on the wild side. I emailed them about coming in to talk about getting two tattoos. They got right back and I set up a time. When I got there, I found a very professional staff that help you figure out what you want and will make changes in design until you are happy. Carrie was the artist that told me she could do them now since they were smaller and not complex. If yours is, you have to make an appointment. So in less than an hour, I had my freckles shaped like a question mark and my tribute to EBS. I had to look up the Chinese symbols for love and peace to show them to make sure they were correct. My brother used to own a tattoo shop so I understand how they work to keep a clean shop. If I ever need another, I would gladly drive to have it done here. read more

This place went above and beyond the expectations I had for a tattoo shop. I scheduled my first tattoo with Carrie in the summer last year and sadly had to reschedule to today (2/3/18). She did a beautiful job! She is a fantastic artist, professional, and made sure I was physically comfortable (on the table and with her). The bunny picture posted is hers ... Two weeks before her I had Steve do a small design on my arm. He was also really fantastic. He copied the design my fiancé and I chose and fit us both in with a time constraint. He was not only fast but very intricate. The building is beautifully decorated with the artists each having their own space to work. The front desk staff and other artists are very professional, helpful, and friendly. The price of both tattoos were incredibly reasonable and non-expensive (for the work they do, the time they spend, and how friendly and professional they are, it's worth it)! I've been tattooed a couple of times here by Carrie. I've also sat with a friend who got tattooed by Tony and Carrie. All of those experiences were fabulous. Carrie always does an amazing job with whatever concept I give her and is incredibly welcoming and fun to chat with while I get tattooed. I've also found all of the other artists and folks working the front desk to be incredibly friendly and helpful whenever I've interacted with them. I was looking forward to getting a tattoo done by Zoe W. because her page looked fantastic but my experience wasn't what I was expecting. She was hitting her vape in front of me during my tattoo? Which I can kind of understand because I also vape but it felt unprofessional and unsanitary, at work I can sit through 2-3 hours (which is how long the tattoo roughly took) without having to hit my vape and I definitely don't do it while serving a customer. Anyways that's not why I'm leaving a 1 star, I was so excited for this tattoo just to be so embarrassed of it as soon as I saw it in the mirror.. ever since I've gotten it I've hid it under clothing and don't feel comfortable in bikinis anymore. There are too many parts of this tattoo that are completely scratchy, blown out, and wobbly. In its entirety it just looks off. I've had other tattoo artists take a look at it for a potential cover up and they've pitied me which just adds to the embarrassment. I'm actually now in the process of getting this tattoo removed now which is not only painful but extremely expensive and I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to get rid of this. I'm sure there are other great artists here but I would never recommend Zoe to anyone that's looking to get a quality tattoo done here. This experience has turned me off completely to getting tattoos from younger artists at this point and I'm just hoping I can get this off my body eventually. read more

Walked in without a reservation Wednesday 5pm. They had one girl who was free for an hour so she squeezed me in for a quick tattoo. It was my first one so I was a little nervous but the place was clean, the lady was friendly, and she gave me a solid assurance that everything would be fine without coddling me so it was nice. The tattoo was on my rib and came out nice and quick, no bleeding and just like getting scratched over and over. They had private rooms which was nice especially considering I was walking in. Also I did bring a friend and they let her wait in the room with me so that was also a plus. Whole process took an hour, pretty fair price of $100 before tip. They bandaged me up and gave me ointment for the tattoo that I didn't really need, it healed pretty well. It's been two months now and the tattoo is fully healed and there are no problems with it, no fading or anything. But if yours fade, they do give you a free refill within six months so it's a pretty solid deal. Would/and do recommend for anyone who wants a tattoo. read more

I got this tattoo January 2019. I was a walk in and they set me up with a girl. Half way through my tattoo she told me she was the apprentice and this was her second tattoo she had done behind the ear. I was not informed by her or the man in front that she was the apprentice. A few months later, it was faded and muddy as you can see in the picture, with the blow out at the top. Not too mention she charged $100, when two other shops quoted me $80. Last month, I went back to get it fixed. I asked if her mentors would fix it for me, and the guy at the front told me the apprentice is the only one who would fix it for free. To be honest, I did not want her working on me again. I decided to go to my usual tattoo artist to fix it, who said she can fix the color but will have to make all the lines thicker to fix the blow out. A clean shop with good artists, just very disappointed with my tattoo and this situation. Now I walk around with this on my head. Pennywise would hate my balloon. read more

The staff and atmosphere are professional, always welcoming, and always clean clean clean. Prices are quoted up front - and remain consistent to the predetermined quotes - and are beyond reasonable. Carrie and Tony (and coworkers, I assume?!!) work hard to make tattooing accessible to all persons and this is really what sets LM apart: inclusivity. I feel comfortable referring friends here because I know they will be respected and welcomed regardless of skin texture/color/gender/identity/ability, etc. It's a relaxed and safe space and I personally just adore Carrie and her work. 100/100 stars obviously lol read more

I've been going to lucky monkey for a few years now. They have done 6/7 of my tattoos and I highly recommend them! I've had all styles from minimalist line work to full water color to pointillism and fine line detail. My most recent tattoo was done by Carrie and she was absolutely phenomenal the entire time. We actually ended up rescheduling my first appointment because I wasn't entirely happy with the design but she was so understanding and sat with me to talk about the specifics of what I did/ didn't like. When I went back the other day for the reschedule I was absolutely over the moon with the design. The entire time she made sure I was comfortable and continually asked me so during the appointment. We had great conversation and I left with one of my favorite tattoos thus far. Overall Lucky Monkey is an amazing space. They have so many talented tattoo artists so you're bound to find someone who can give you the tattoo you want. Honestly, I'm so glad that there are some decent reviews here because I had the worst experience at this place. I came in on a random Saturday afternoon and there was only one guy working (I wish I could remember his name). He was a pretty big jerk as far as customer service went, and didn't really care about me or the tattoo I wanted. I'm not sure why I stuck around, because he clearly thought my tattoo idea was stupid (and you could tell he felt that way from his facial expression and comments). He drew up a quick sketch, and because of the simplicity of what I wanted, it seemed alright. He said that he could do the colors I wanted, but midway through the tattooing, he told me that it would be impossible with my skin tone (what?? isn't this something we should have discussed before the needle was fired up?). He also happened to get some ink on his pants during my actual tattoo, which he seemed much more concerned about than the permanent inking that was currently occurring! I was mortified, but it was half way done at this point. All in all, I like the tattoo I got (it is really simple) but in no way did the tattoo artist make me feel comfortable and good about what I was doing. I would never suggest this place to anyone. read more

Recently-married friends of mine were looking to get a tattoo somewhere in Ann Arbor. I have always gone to Infinite Art Tattoo in Toledo so I didn't have much along the lines of recommendation but told them to go here. They had made an appointment for 5 o clock. We walked in at about 5 minutes early and there were no customers inside. After a couple minutes an employee comes from the back. The shop was pretty clean and I was impressed actually at first. That's the only positive I can see here. The artist who has going to do the tattoo said he hadn't eaten lunch and was going to get a pizza nearby. My first thought was, "really?" My friends were very understanding and patient, I was not. The artists here were so completely unprofessional. They went and got their pizza, brought it back and began eating it in the shop. After making my friends wait for 1/2 hour+, he gave them their tattoos in the front area of the shop, not even in a private room (granted they were wrist tattoos, but still). The employees seemed to find the whole thing really funny and said they were giving my friends a deal. After this experience I will NEVER go here again, not even to support others. Go somewhere else where the shop is run by professionals who have more than an ounce of respect for their customers. read more

I wish I didn't even have to give this place one star. This place is horrible! Please save yourself the time the trouble and go to a real tattoo shop if you want a tattoo. I got my second tattoo from here and had nothing but problems. The guy that set up the appointment for my friend and I was rude and seemed strung out. I was glad he wasn't tattooing people. When they tattoo they do it in the front of the shop. This meant when I was sitting there for 2 hours getting a tattoo I had to watch everyone coming and going in the shop and listen to 4 people swearing and crying when they were getting their tattoos. I have never heard anyone cry when getting a tattoo so that kind of sucked. Also tattooing in an environment like this isn't sterile, if you read up on it people should be getting tattooed in a separate rooms. My tattoo artist, Finn was pretty cool. He was a nice guy and good artist. I have nothing bad to say about him or his work. But a month after getting my tattoo it still wasn't healing. About three months after getting my tattoo it was all blistery and nasty. I went to the dermatologist and they gave me many countless creams to put on it. Nothing was working and I was convinced I was going to have to get it removed. I even had an appointment with a laser tattoo removal center. I would've had to shell out 10,000+ dollars to get it removed not to mention the pain and discoloration. I didn't end up getting the tattoo removed and luckily the tattoo started to heal about 8 months after getting it! But it is discolored and missing ink in many spots! I never had any problems with my first tattoo, which I got from American Graffiti in Brighton. Now my friend... My friend got a large chest piece the same day I got tattooed and her artist, Brian talked her into altering her design drastically. Other shops we went to said they could tattoo her design no problem. She is now very unhappy with her tattoo. And much of the ink is faded and missing in spots! A few months after my tattoo healed up my boyfriend's coworker was having some problems with his tattoo like I did with mine. His tattoo was red, blistery, not healing, blahblahblah. And come to find out he got it from the same shop, Lucky Monkey!!! Clearly Lucky Monkey uses low quality ink. Save yourself the time, money, and possible health risk. Go to a better shop. I'd rather have tattooed myself with all this hassle. read more

I just had the pleasure of getting my nose pierced by meatloaf, It is appointment only and you have to send a email and wait for a response to get scheduled so I thought great it's going to be weeks before I get a response but NOPE I got a text within a hour asking if I could come to the shop the same day which I did. The entire process was fast and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! Meatloaf was super cool and helped me pick the best size stone and the best placement. I really liked the woman who did my piercing; she seems to know what she's talking about, not only in terms of the trade itself but also the various health consequences of body modification. I think this is of paramount importance for people who seek any form of body modification. As a health professional student, my experience is that there aren't many health professionals who understand it very well. I went in a week prior to get a consultation. Came back with a friend to get inked. My artist was Johnny Wheastraw. Absolutely loved him. I handpicked him myself based on his artwork. My appointment was at 3 I ended up getting out at around 5ish. I got a pretty decent sized/detailed tattoo on my foot. I am so happy with it. I went in here to get a tattoo of a mythological dragon/serpent around my tattoo over a year ago. The experience was average. The artist who did was nice and got the job done. Nothing really memorable. However, it's been a little over a year and the ink has already faded to a greyish green. It's not bad enough to the point where I have to get it redone but I think it might get to that point in another year or two (which really pisses me off considering it was an expensive one). Also, some of the details have become murky (the slit eye is now filled up). I have not gained or lost any weight nor have I gotten any injury in that area that would alter the image. I have other tattoos that are older with smaller holes and details that are still amazing today. There is no reason I could come up with for this tattoo to behave the way it did except the lack of expertise of the artist and the poor quality of the ink. Wouldn't recommend this place. The tattoo will be fine when you first get it but it won't remain fine for a long time. read more

She was very rude inconsiderate and unprofessional. Upon speaking in regards to this matter we were offered 50. Off. Which to me is nothing for having waited so long and the excitement of getting a tattoo especially with my son for his first one. I was told they're extremely busy and Dana is the only one whom does the scheduling. You own a business if you're having a difficult time with your workload hire some help! I went on recommendation from a friend who has had a sleeve done here. I had been to other parlors in the area, but Lucky Monkey has been the best. They also are the only parlor in Ann Arbor that I could find that does a great job at realism. Brad took my vague description and turned it into a beautiful work of art. 2 hours of ink, minimal discomfort, and great conversation for a great price. They even stayed past closing time to make sure I was taken care of. Though I may need a touch up once we're fully healed, I know I can count on Lucky Monkey to hook me up!! Most shops look like crap with no theme or rhyme to their layout. Lucky is a place that makes you want to come back. I got some ink done back in March/April at lucky monkey, specifically my hands and knuckles. I'm particular about my work, shop, and artist. I discovered brad through Instagram and thought his work was great. I went down two times before my appointment. First time to discuss what I wanted, deposit to hold my spot, than my actual appointment. Brad made me feel very comfortable while he was inking me and even during drawing it up he fixed it numerous times to make sure it was perfect before he put the stencil on.
