I've driven by the Lucky Silver Tavern numerous times, but have never stopped in. Well, that all changed and I totally dig it! It's on South Tacoma Way in an area you wouldn't really expect to find a bar and next door to Marcia's Silver Spoon, which is only open until the afternoon. The bartender, Jaid, was super nice! The bar is clean, had a DJ, had a really cool menu (I attached a photo, but I did not try anything), and even has a covered outdoor patio. Great time! We'll definitely be back. read more

Gabe is an amazing bartender and we've been here twice now. Food is really good and the cook (can't remember his name- so sorry!!!) really cares about delivering quality food. The staff were so friendly!! Our bartender was sweet and helpful. The Korean bbq tacos were insanely good along with their fries. I heard great things about the cheeseburgers so I can't wait to come back and try one. They had it decorated for Christmas so the ambiance is great, plus they have outdoor seating in the back which is pretty big. read more

This place is great! Clean and the food is very tasty. The young guy with the beard is the best bartender and pours a decent drink, the rest of them ? It doesn't taste as though there is any booze. Must Eats: The FRIES! I call them fry crack, they are honestly the best fries in pierce county. Hand cut, soaked in seasoning and then a heavy dose of furikake. O.M.G. Gabby and Ian were fantastic! What a great menu and atmosphere- unique and inviting for two out of town folks coming to a new spot for food! Definitely recommend :) The outside area was very nice and they have alot of cool features and entertaining professional guests! The lovely bartender Karen pours like she's been working gay bars all her life (HEAVY HANDED) and she treats you like you're family. Out of oranges for my old fashioned? triple Sec! Stopped in for the first time this place got new owners with some great taste, I never heard of Korean bbq tacos until Lastnight !!! Wow the meat was juicy, seasoned well, and let's just say they weren't shy with loading the tacos up. Two corn tortilla grilled, Korean bbq meat, cilantro, pickled carrots & radish. I'm something of a burger connoisseur, and Lucky Silver's burger offers a unique taste that I can't wait to enjoy again. A friend suggested that Lucky Silver has the best burger in Tacoma (and there's a handwritten sign at the bar proclaiming it). I'd disagree, because that title is held by The Forum's "Jucy Lucy," but Lucky Silver's burger is genuinely great. It's huge, and the hand-packed patty makes it taste like a homemade burger. Eating this burger sent through me a wave of nostalgia from my old Boy Scout camping trips. The woman behind the bar clearly takes pride in her establishment. We were the only patrons there, so she took care of us in an almost motherly way. She provided credits for the digital jukebox so we could select our playlist for the evening, guided us through the menu to help us decide what to order, and joked with us throughout the night. It felt very informal and alleviated the awkwardness inherent in being the only diners in the restaurant. It almost felt like we were guests in her home. As the evening progressed, a few other patrons came in, several of whom were greeted by name by the bartender. I have no doubt that this is a favorite haunt for many regulars. The Lucky Silver Amber was a little bland, the fries were a little over-cooked, and the decor/atmosphere is very standard bar fare, but the burger and the hospitality made Lucky Silver a local hole-in-the-wall we'll visit again. read more

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Fresh meat (NOT FROZEN) and hand cut fries. Kathy the owner is a special lady. She does it all. Tends the bar, cooks and plays the server role as well. This bar has been in her family for over 50 years and she is carrying on the legacy. She takes pride In her business and her customers. Definitely one of Tacomas gems. read more

Best burger on Tacoma! Don't let the exterior fool you. Kathy runs a clean joint with LOTS of regulars, which should tip you off that this is a great place (unless you are an asshole - the you get your own Christmas sock). 40 years in business: you don't do that unless you got the goods. Kathy has owned the place for 23 of those and she knows what she's doing. Had the Deschutes IPA and Lucky Silver Amber (made Sound Brewery out of Poulsbo) - both excellent. Ordered Kathy's burger and it is the best in Tacoma. Picture included. If you want a solid meal, or quiet drink with a friend, Lucky Silver is my recommendation - and this is my first visit in here. Just feels like the kind of bar you hope to find in any town in America you happen to find yourself hungry or thirsty. Cheers. read more

Kathy has the best burgers in town. They are fresh and you can tell she uses premium meat. The fries are hand cut none of that frozen crap. They taste different if your not used to hand cut. They are crisp tasty and not overly greasy. On Wednesdays she has tacos and taco salads that are delicious and a great bang for your buck. She also makes a killer Ruben. The menu might not be huge but don't let it deter you from Tacoma's BEST BURGERS. I don't drink so I can't speak for that but when it comes to food I can say is a must so don't let the outside fool you it's worth the stop. read more

After driving by the Lucky Silver several times I decided to stop by one night while my wife was having her friends over for a girls night and I was not disappointed! It was everything I want my dive bars to be, dirty, people playing pool, lots of cold beer, cheap snacks, I was in dive bar heaven! I noticed lots of regulars which is a good thing and the staff treated me just as well as they did the regulars which may be a reason why those who are became regulars in the first place. read more

A nifty old dive just down the road from the Java Jive that has been owned and run by the same family since 1966. It was bingo night when I attended -- I played in for three games and won nothing. Prizes included a can of sweet corn, a box of Ritz crackers, a battery lighted magnifying glass, and a box of Bodyform panty liners. read more

Over priced drinks and the owner Kathy Carr will step over $5 to pick up a $1. Up charge for a tall then they up charge you for a double cause it's a tall and they charge for mixer. Food is mediocre at best at a premium price. Could have been a great corner neighborhood bar but the owner is greedy. She thinks people come there for her wifi but you were better off with your cell service. Do yourself a favor and go to Dawson's or go downtown where you get a stiff drink at a good price. read more

Definitely has the potential to achieve dive bar greatness, but right now is a mish mash of free beer distributor merch and it's a little too bright. Other than that, staff and patrons are friendy, place is clean, and it's a good spot to hang out while you wait for the Jive to open. read more

It's mostly local beers in the metro area and I remember the variety of that list being pretty generous. So that was all good. We even got some food to eat here. I have had their burgers here and liked them quite a bit. The classic type burger seems to be the Park Burger and along with fries it proved to be a good meal. Definitely a nice establishment for the neighborhood!

My friend had the Tacoma's Best Grilled Cheese, which was made with mozzarella and provolone -- two of the least flavorful cheeses you could pick for a grilled cheese. It did not live up to its name. We got our bartender's recommendation on drinks: the El Diablo mule & Paper Dragon. They were light and tasty, and not terribly dissimilar. I was disappointed my mule wasn't served in a mule mug. Overall, it's a fun place with solid service, but if you're looking for a meal or interesting drinks, you might want to eat beforehand and come here for the vibe. I don't think I'll be back.

It has remained one of the coolest dive bars I've ever been in. In the last couple of years, they started serving some really, really yummy food. I get the Philly cheesesteak, but have them use cheddar and put extra onions on it. It is absolutely to die for. Steve, the mastermind behind the majority of the menu, also recently added on Browned butter cocoa puff marshmallow treats. ZOMG! They no longer just have beer and wine, they have hard alcohol now. This is resulted in some, how you say, "more interesting" evenings than it did before, but overall the crowd is really friendly and supportive of the nightly karaoke singers. Had my first date with Flava Dave there. I don't drink and neither does my now husband (Flava Dave) so we go up and do duets and call ourselves The Sober Barflies. The karaoke hosts are always a lot of fun. Flava Dave picks up fill-in karaoke shifts there occasionally. Sam Cori is adorable, upbeat, and a classically trained singer and songwriter. She makes *another* performance of Bohemian Rhapsody fun and fresh again! We even had Gabe (one of the Karaoke hosts with a heartthrob vibrato bass voice), sing the music for our wedding and host karaoke at in my parents' sizeable rec-room afterward! He knocked my folks out signing Unchained Melody, their song, at our little reception. A lot of momentous occasions, birthday gatherings, and bachelorette parties take place there. I've seen a number of people get proposed to, and once saw a very spontaneous, actual wedding. There's a lot of really cool history in that place. It's over 100 years old and it's an official historical landmark in the United States. There's a lot of lore behind it. Stories of being haunted. It's a really amazing place to see. Plus, it's shaped like a coffee pot, how can you beat that?

This place has a fun history dating back to 1927! The building has served many purposes over the years, serving the public as everything from a fast food drive-thru to a speakeasy. The building has also been featured in several films, including "I Love You to Death," and Cameron Crowe's "Say Anything." These roadside America kitschy buildings amuse me greatly, and I'll always go out of my way to visit them when I can. Bob's Java Jive doesn't disappoint!

Knowing how many wonderful meals we've had there we gave them the benefit of the doubt, everyone/everywhere has bad nights. Unfortunately, we went back tonight and were shocked to find the restaurant nearly empty. We got a table in the bar so my husband could keep an eye on the basketball game. and while service was better it wasn't great, food was dropped off by someone who said not a word, literally dropped plates and walked away, and food was good but not the standout it once was, drink was also pretty awful. So sad to see such a shining star of a place in Tacoma fall so far. Seeing almost empty on a Saturday night confirmed it's not just us that has noticed such sad changes to the place.

We started with the Guacamole Sampler -- Traditional, Carlito's Way, and Austin Style -- served with warm housemade chips and their signature salsa. Every style had its own personality, and the flavors were spot‑on across the board. A fantastic way to kick off the meal. For my entrée, I went with the Seasonal Al Pastor Tamales, and wow... this dish is a true taste of the south. The ancho, guajillo, and achiote citrus slow‑roasted pork was rich and tender, perfectly balanced by cumin black beans, pickled pineapple, white onion, and serrano salsa. Every bite had depth, heat, and brightness. My wife ordered the Smoked Chicken Tomatillo Soup -- hominy, red bell peppers, carrots, onions, chipotle, buttermilk crema, cilantro, and blue corn tortilla strips. Served with fresh housemade sopes, it was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully layered. A perfect bowl for any season. We also shared the Navajo Fry Bread -- honestly, this should be listed under desserts. Warm, soft, slightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. The overall vibe was relaxed and inviting. It can get a bit noisy -- especially for someone like me who's hard of hearing -- but the energy is still warm and enjoyable. Cactus never disappoints. I was still hungry but thankfully I had my 4 year old's leftover cheeseburger and salad to fill me right up. As for the beignets, it was good. Not disappointed at all cleaned my plate. Everything was hot, nice good spices great flavor. Potatoes were nice with fruit and biscuit to accompany. Burgers were ordered with the clean up on aisle 12 as well. No one talked at first sure indication as we shared our finds. Wow we ate it all and all I have is a smile and one photo.

For food, we ordered the Queen Beans, The Marley, and Sweet Leaf Salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
