We have a very active Labrador puppy. She is the center of our universe. We have brought Steve to Luckydog once a week for most of her life. She loves the interaction with the other dogs, and cones home thoroughly exhausted from playing so hard. She loves all of the staff and is excited to arrive every time we bring her. She's also been boarded at the facility many times. I trust the facility and the staff 100%. The facility is clean and very well managed. Recently we went to pick up Steve and found that the staff had made Christmas gifts from our pets. The thoughtfulness of that gesture almost brought tears to my eyes. See picture. read more

Attacked dog required emergency care and now the managers and owners refuse to provide contact info of the Frenchie as required by law to recover vet expenses. And this is only part of their lack of care or attention to care of animals. Workers constantly on phones, not in the play areas.. they just take money and don't care. read more

I have boarded my dog here on a few occasions and she seems to like it fine, even though of course she is happiest when I come to take het home. My issue is that they have some rather cryptic policies that are not clear. For example, they have a policy you can't pick your dog up before 4pm. Thru won't answer the phone or doorbell if you show up before then. They literally screamed at my husband for trying to get someone's attention to pick up or dog an hour early. Keep in mind it is the customer, not the dog who pays the bill. We will not be back. We expected a bit more understanding and certainly not screaming for not knowing the decreet text number! read more

We were looking for a dog hotel all around Eugene when Luckydog's facilities definitely stood out from the rest. With an orientation, half day care day and one full night stay I was more then comfortable leaving my dog in their care for 10 days while we traveled. They were consistent with their photos and daily reports and I knew if anything happened they would take great notes and either call me or talk to me about it after the stay. By day 8 my dog was a little burnt out from all of the stimulation and they put him in a thunder jacket and gave him time in a calmer area when needed. When checking the cameras all of the staff was overly attentive and I never felt like my dog wasn't being seen. At the end of his stay he received a grooming and nail trimming from Laurel which was the best he's ever received. I will be recommending to everyone I know! read more

While their chaperone walked away from parking area, she let her dogs roam free and off leash. I almost hit two of their dogs as they ran in front of my moving car. Their chaperone didn't even noticed. That's the care they give to your dogs. I wouldn't pay for that sort of service not knowing if my fur baby would be put in harms way while in their charge. There is one gal whom I've seen come with their pack sometime and she's very attentive. A business such as this shouldn't provide their quality and safety of service as a hit and miss. We enrolled in day training with Stacey for our wild Labrador puppy. River would not get in the car, pulled on the leash and went nuts when meeting new people. Stacey worked with her and then showed us the methods she used so we could continue working with her on her own. Stacey really cares about what she does and was wonderful with River. The puppy will be a work in progress for another year (especially those greetings), but has made a lot of progress with loose leash walking and we are feeling more confident and less frustrated. read more

I am just loving this place. I have my son's dog for a year while he is out of the country. Morty is my son's pride and joy and now that I'm responsible for him I'm looking for only the best for him. The staff is AWESOME! I've received nothing but professionalism from both Cass and Kristin and of course Dee Dee the owner who called me on a Sunday just to make sure she knew my message was received on their machine. Morty will be boarding with Luckydog in May and I have no worries what-so-ever in leaving him for nine days. I am really happy for the customers that got their dogs back in good shape. I was not so Luck and my dog was definitely not a Lucky Dog. My fun loving adorable 175 pound Saint Bernard stayed for 4 night. I picked him up at 10am, we got in the car and picked up a friend to go to lunch. before we even got lunch he started acting funny. I dropped her off and headed home. I thought to let him rest after his stay, maybe he didn't get good sleep. By the time I got home he was foaming at the mouth, wincing in pain and crying. My brother called the vet and we drove him there immediately. He was dehydrated, in shock and had twisted stomach. There were only two vets that could do the surgery, Salem or Portland, the vet said in his condition he wasn't going to make it to either. They put him on IV to hydrate, pain meds, and shaved and put large needles in his stomach to release the bloat. After about an hour he was stable enough to head to Salem where staff was waiting for emergency surgery. During this time I called Lucky Dog 3 times to find out What the hell happened. Dehydrated REALLY. That's called water people. My dog almost died No one even called me back to see if he survived the surgery. He will Never be brought back there again. This place has everything to make doggie parents smile: clean location, bright colors, lots of "play" equipment, and TVs in the doggie dorm rooms. Unfortunately, all these bells and whistles come at a price for your pet. I brought my doggie here after moving back in the area. I have to travel a lot for work, and knew that I would need to arrange for some overnight care. To prep my pooch for the stay, I decided to enroll in some day care so that she could get used to the routine. After a couple of tries, it was clear that she was wigged out by the ever-changing pack. Given the relatively small space for dogs to socialize and the apparent lack of screening of potential clients, I suppose it wasn't too surprising. Everything else seemed okay, though, so I went ahead and made arrangements for a trial overnight while making sure that my pup wouldn't be involved in the "day care" antics. My dog was in the care of Luckydog for less than 36 hours, and I ended up with a $500 vet bill. She had been so freaked out that she had been licking her paws. She had licked her paws to the point that they were nearly doubled in size (yes, all four of them) and SHE COULDN'T WALK. Mandie suggested that this malady might have been caused by the "superfloor" that LD has in place in their play area. This seemed pretty odd to me, because my dog wasn't supposed to participate in day care. Additionally, what kind of floor makes it so a dog can't walk? She also noted that my pooch had eaten no food since being there. To deal with that? She tried to get my dog to eat food drenched in salmon oil and canned fish. I'm happy to report my pooch is fine. She needed a significant round of antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs, but she recovered. Important to note is that I don't have a high-maintenance doggie (read my reviews of other kennels in town to attest). I've owned her since she was a pup of just 8 weeks, she came from a litter in town, we've lived in a few different places around the PNW, and she hikes extensively. This is not a dog that needs pampering, or has special needs. I think the real problem with LD is that they don't seem to understand dogs or dog behavior. Dogs don't like an ever-changing pack of animals, with constant re-establishment of hierarchies. They don't need what looks to be child play equipment to get exercise. They also aren't fooled by a TV as a substitute for human interaction and aren't enticed by a brand new, strong-smelling, additive to their food. My advice to you is to check out some of the other pet-care spots in town, and to avoid the bright lights and colors of LD. read more

My family has now used Lucky Dog for our pet for several months. We have a very active 40-lb 'puppy' that we simply cannot deal with every day. We are very happy with everything we have experienced with Lucky Dog and our dog gets a good, healthy, clean workout with loving people every time he goes. The staff is friendly and personable, and they get to know each dog. The management is aware of the particulars of our pet and really seems to care about the pet individually as well as the pet community as a whole (requiring current vaccinations and so on). The facility is very nice, clean, recently expanded, and well-organized. I challenge you to show me a better facility in Eugene. The services that we have used: grooming, boarding, shuttle - work well and are worth the money we paid. Honestly, all things considered, we have no complaints and while I am surprised to read any negative review, I also know that sometimes things can happen and the real point is the management wants to and will certainly address any issue that occur - their hearts are in the right place, the facility is solid, and they want what we want: healthy, happy pets. Our giant puppy really enjoys going to Lucky Dog. We appreciate the service and have no plans to go elsewhere. read more

This is the best place in the area to board your baby! I went around and interviewed many places, and none came close to luckydog. Everyday I got pictures of him on facebook, I called everyday and got very specific updates - EVERYONE knew my Chico and had spent time with him. During playtime he made good friends and always had a handler there to keep him feeling secure and safe. The staff are always professional and they KNOW their dogs! Chico was very comfortable with everyone and always had a smile on his face. Here were some of the things my baby got to do in the week he was there: - He got the private suite, so he had his own private tv (he's used to it from home). The employees followed my instructions for what times to have it on/off and what channels to put it on! - He got daily one-on-one cuddle time with an employee - He got a 5-hour play time WITH posted facebook pictures for mamma - He was taken on a field trip and took a walk with a terrier friend on the river - every night he got a bed time snack - He was taken out at least three other times for potty and socializing (on top of playtime!) - the day before I picked him up he got a nice bath - Most importantly - he had FUN! I referred to his stay as doggy summer camp! Some of the things were an extra charge, but the charge really wasn't much. My bill was VERY reasonable, especially considering everything we got and how long he stayed. I wouldn't leave my baby anywhere else! read more

This review concerns the evaluation that dogs must first do in order to use luckydog's services. The owner gave our dog about 5 minutes to get adjusted to the surroundings, and then proceeded with the evaluation. The owner kneeled down and did something where she proceeded to wrap her arms around our dog. Our dog was clearly confused and barked both times at her. The owner wouldn't take our dog because of that. Our dog has never ever had any behavior issues and he is extremely friendly. Since our destination was in another city up north anyway, we took him to a facility up there that is similar to Luckydog. We explained about what happened during Luckydog's evaluation and the owners of the place up north were shocked that an evaluation with a dog was conducted in that sort of manner. They informed us that their evaluations are all-day events, as you cannot adequately discern what a dog's personality is through a 15-minute evaluation. After verifying our dog's shot records, they took him for 8 hours and let all of the trainers, as well as the owners and other dogs, interact with our dog to see how he would fare during day care. He passed with flying colors, displaying absolutely no aggression issues. Our dog has since been back to the place several times and we have never once had any issues with him. Overall, I think the facilities at Luckydog seem great. However, the evaluation process was just flawed and unprofessional. read more

My yellow labrador Tina practically grew up at Lucky Dog. We attended puppy classes and when she was old enough she started going to day care. She is so well socialized with other dogs, and the staff also place high value on good doggy manners. We've been using Lucky Dog for a year now, and are very satisfied. I agree with the other reviewer that dogs won't find any other care of this quality in Eugene. I began using daycare because of a friend's recommendation, and mostly to get my dog used to the facility when she needed boarding. Then, because of unexpected health problems (ours), we needed to add Lucky Dog's taxi service and outdoor "hikes" to our big, energetic dog's routine for a couple of months. Truly a godsend! The folks who work at Lucky Dog are intelligent, and truly care about each dog. I appreciate the "transparency" of Lucky Dog. You can see how clean and how well-supervised all areas are. We have been taking Haedog to Lucky Dog, when we go out of town, for about a year. They know her by name and she is always really excited to go. In fact, I'm pretty sure she prefers hanging out with her dog pals there than staying at home with us. I'm writing this because the only other review here was from one bad experience and we have had many good experiences. On the day of me coming to pick up my dog I was running a little late later than the 7 pm checkout time and the gate was locked and all the lights off. Then the most ridiculous factor was that I called the emergency number they have listed and no one answered so I left a message and I called a couple times & no one even bothered to call me back!! I had an interesting expierience at Lucky Dog and am glad to have the oppurtunity to share it. I've had my dog, Buddy, for a little less than a year now and have grown to regard him as family. I recently found myself in a spot where I needed care for him while I worked. I work 24 hour shifts every third day as a firefighter for the city. I spent hours researching places to take Buddy while I worked. I wasnt going to settle for some place that was going to lock him up in a kennel for the full 24 hours. This is no way to spend a third of your life. Even if you're a dog. I was excited to find that a place like LuckyDog exists. Upon finding that the staff keep the dogs active and moving throughout the day, I immediatly called and started the enrollment process. The process took time and money(certain vaccinations and veterinary assessment). The hoops I was jumping through seemed worth it because to have Buddy "accepted" meant that I was going to recieve an excellent service in that he would be spending his days around well-behaved and healthy dogs. Buddy passed and I was able to start taking him. My abnormal work schedule presented some challenge to the staff but, to my pleasant surprise, they seemed willing to work with me. I had been able to take Buddy to LuckyDog a total of 2 of my working shifts when what seemed like a dream-come-true turned into a total nightmare. At 0715 on one of his scheduled days, I was dropping Buddy off at LuckyDog when I was approached by Mandy, the owner, and told that she saw buddy cough and that she cannot take him today because she thinks he has kennel cough. This, despite the fact Kennel Cough, which is the equivilant of the common cold for dogs, was one of the vaccinations Buddy recieved during the enrollment process. I replied by saying, "Buddy has coughed every morning since I first had him". Buddy coughs again. "yup, thats Kennel cough, I'd recognize it anywhere. I cant have him around my dogs today or for ten days after the symptoms clear." I tried arguing a bit and communicated that this was putting me in an extremely bad spot seeing as my shift at the firehouse starts in 15 mins. In the end of the interaction, I left worried about how I was going to take care Buddy for the next couple of weeks while he got over being sick. I was a little miffed at Mandy's delivery and abruptness but understood that she was trying to protect her other dogs and her business. She had agreed to keep Buddy till 10am when a friend would be picking him up. I became a little more miffed when my friend reported to me that Mandy had had some things to say regarding my gender when conversing about care for Buddy. These where things I was willing to let go seeing as this was the only resource allowing me to keep my best friend. Here is the kicker: Buddy never got sick. Never showed signs or symptoms of Kennel Cough. Took him to the vet 2 days after the above mentioned episode and paid a small fortune to have the vet tell me that Buddy did not have Kennel Cough and was most likely having morning coughs due to dry air in his sleeping environment. Humidifier worked like a charm. I called Mandy that same day to re-establish Buddy's schedule. Was told that she was busy and would have to call me back. That was a month ago and I have still yet to hear from her. Mandy and LuckyDog get a big resounding "0" on reliability: To be told "cant bring your dog here" 15 minutes before your work shift begins is unacceptable. A bit like buying a car that starts only sometimes. Especially painful seeing that LuckyDog has strict policies regarding schedule changes on the clients part. Mandy and LuckyDog get an even bigger "0" on credibility: The words, "Yup, that's Kennel Cough, I'd recognize it anywhere" kept playing in my days after the vet said, "Your dog does not have kennel cough." Another "0" comes to mind when I think of Mandy, LuckyDog and Professionalism. I was completely unaware that my gender played a role when I was jumping through hoops. Mandys gender comments coupled with everything else leaves me thinking that perhaps there is a personal problem wrapped-up in the hardship I experienced at LuckyDog. Perhaps I missed the sign that states Dogs of working class males need not apply. In the end, I found a place for Buddy to stay while I was away at work. This enables me to continue to be able to keep my best friend despite working weird hours. Needless to say. I will not be recommending LuckyDog to any of my friends, family or co-workers. Wasted both time and money on this one! Unprofessional and inconsiderate. Amazing in this economy. read more

Been here, no problems. Mandy is very good at what she does and that is why she's been in business longer than most daycares around here. The play areas are smaller so that the pack can be handled by a human. Those 1 acre yards at other places look good, but what if a small fight broke out and your dog is being bitten 200 ft. away? Guess what - the one person there won't handle it quick enough. I've had it happen to the tune of a 6000 dollar vet bill and almost lost my dog's life. The handlers need to be close enough to the pack and in a contained area so they can supervise. Things happen quickly if something goes wrong. Don't be fooled into thinking your dog needs 3 miles of play area and they will be safe. I've also heard of large play areas where dogs get lost, yeah, for good (under or over a fence) because no one is really watching them as they can't see them far out or don't want to stand out in the rain 8 hours a day. The place is clean, safe and she screens super judiciously by making any new dogs go through trial visits to see if they pass. She also has policies in place to get faithful weekly customers- meaning the packs are the same week to week. I don't know why that latter review stated she didn't want her dog to do daycare and then takes her dog to a daycare. Dumb. And I've never met a dog that doesn't love meat to eat, they are carnivores. Sounds like her dog just an unusual reaction to the floor, but I have never seen this happen with any other dogs. The fact that the dog kept freaking out to me says it wasn't socialized enough and obviously doesn't fit into the daycare type of play. Try a pet sitter next time. The surface they play on has texture so the dogs don't slip while playing. IF they come weekly as they should, they get used to it. This place is top notch and pretty much the only good place that Eugene has to offer for dog care. read more

We have been taking our black lab Shadow to luckydog for about 10 months and have used virtually every service offered: day care, overnight care, Adventure Club, training classes, grooming, and even a canine camp out. We can say without question, this is the finest dog care business we can imagine anywhere! Mandie, her husband Sean, and the entire staff are consummate professionals who clearly love dogs and take their care very seriously. The dogs are well cared for, closely supervised, have rules, learn manners and obviously have a great time together. We need only see how happy Shadow is upon his arrival at luckydog (or when picked up at our home by Sean "Captain Adventure" for an Adventure Club outing) to know how much he loves being a lucky dog. Like any pet owner, we have experienced occasional health issues with our dog and Mandie has worked with us and our vet to resolve these issues while ensuring the health of all of her canine clients. We cannot say enough about what a great place this is for dogs and we give it our very highest recommendation. read more

I boarded my dog here for the first time this summer when I had to attend a funeral in Eugene. I was incredibly anxious about boarding her. She has only been looked after by myself or family before, but I was pleasantly surprised. She is a timid dog by nature, but when I picked her up she seemed so happy! I have had less luck with relatives looking after her. The gal working at the counter even let me know that she hadn't finished one of her meals (she has never been a good eater), and they were so nice about putting up with my raw dog food that required refrigeration. Everything I saw appeared spick and span, and I appreciated that they required vaccination records. They were nice about it when I got lost and was 20 minutes late for the drop off time (and gave me directions for finding the place!). I feel so much better about the whole boarding thing and will certainly use Luckydog again if I require their service again in Eugene! read more
