I reached out to the shop as it was recommended by a friend who had just had his hair colored there. I sent her photos of both the hairstyle I wanted and a color I was attempting to go to. Nelly got me in immediately and I was immediately at peace. She not only is welcoming but she makes you feel at home with a friend. Through out the process the conversation was fun, easy, and seamless. I felt like I was with my friend and not a complete stranger. She truly is one of the strongest, most incredible, women I know. I saw Linda, who was bubbly and energetic. I had purchased a groupon for balayage and a cut. Having never had balayage coloring before I asked about how it was done, and she explained that the color is hand painted on as opposed to using foils. I have dark brown hair, and explained that I wanted to go very light for the summer...a cool tone, light blonde. I know this can be a challenge for darker hair, but I'd had it done that color in the past in one visit so I knew it could be done. I showed her several pictures on Pinterest and also a picture of myself with my desired color. When the balayage was finished the color was nothing like what I asked for. The 5 or so inches of darker regrowth at the roots was a blotchy orange, as were the longer pieces that hadn't been previously bleached. The previously bleached parts had some cool blonde tones, but I have to say it was nothing like what I asked for. I explained my concerns and was told AFTER THE FACT that balayage only lifts the hair by 6 shades! If that's the case, and I was very clear I wanted a light blonde, I don't understand why she went ahead with the balayage! At this point, she had other clients starting to come in for her next appointments, but she offered to work me in to stay so she could at least lighten the orange bangs and crown using foils and the regular strength bleach. It did help bring the roots up to a light redish brown (definitely not the cool blonde I wanted.) My longer originally virgin strands are still a orangey brown from the balayage. I considered giving 2 stars because everyone in the salon was very friendly, and because my stylist was kind about taking the time to try and fix my roots...but I just can't considering that I came home and cried! And now I have to save up even more money to have it fixed. UPDATE: I'm scheduled to go back in to see Linda. It's going to be a few wks, but I will update this review as to how things turn out. Fingers crossed! 2nd Update: First of all, Linda has been incredibly attentive and available in trying to get me to my desired color. She has spent 2 half days with me on a full highlight and cut groupon. She got rid of a lot of the orangish light brown created by the balayage. We did lift a lot of my roots up to the cool blonde. I think my previously colored hair looks pretty. But when I got home my bf asked if I had seen the top of my head. I went in the bathroom and took some pics so I could get a good look. I have to be honest, once I washed and styled my hair myself I could really see that the top of my head is chunky and inconsistent. There are large chunks that didn't receive any color at all, and you can pretty cleary still see my regrowth line. In my opinion this is just not professional level work. 3rd Update:

I exchanged emails with Rosa to set up our appointment and she was very kind to accommodate our request for a 9 year old. She asked for inspirational photos to get an idea of what we wanted beforehand. Luckily it was in our neighborhood, which made it easier to coordinate for the performance day. When confirming, Rosa asked to push our appointment a little later but it still worked out perfectly timing-wise. She had her own private suite for her customers among other stylists in the building. It was comfy with holiday music playing and I got to sit in and watch her do her magic. She was great working with my daughter and understood that she didn't need to overdo the makeup portion. My daughter had a fun experience and felt so special dressed up for her performance. Hoping that we could use Ross for our next special occasion.
