I recently started designing one off clothing and stage performance inspired pieces under a private design label. My first project was to make a coat that was identical to one worn by Kanye West on the Yeezus Tour. I brought Ban an old military surplus overcoat, insulation, seal faux, leather, a military belt and my labels and together designed the coat to be a functional piece of art. The coat is the warmest coat I've ever worn and it attracts all kinds of positive attention from those who have and haven't seen Kanye West wearing the similar one. After seeing Ban and her sisters craftsmanship I knew that Lucy's would be the place that I would bring all my ideas and projects to. My second project was recycling a vintage Coyote fur coat. I brought Ban a 20 year old woman's size 10 fur coat and had the sleeves removed, and fur shaved off the shoulders. Next, Ban applied my label using a leather patch that sits visibly within the thick long fur. The 20 year old coat now looks brand new, revived and current. My third project was something that Ban had never attempted before. I wanted to create another functional piece of art in the form of a mask that would match the original coat I commissioned to look like Kanye West's. I showed Ban pictures of masks that were similar to the one I wanted and supplied her with the materials that were needed. Although Ban had never built a mask before, she was able to build it around my head as I wore it in her shop. I told her how I wanted it to look and she was able to take materials that would normally not go together and make them into a stunning piece of fully functional art that you can see through and wear. During the build of the mask, Ban was also able to take on a smaller project of mine. I wanted to make a custom hat that will be mass produced under my design label. I brought her an unbranded 5 panel hat, Chinese silk and my label. Ban lined the inside of the hat with the patterned silk, making it comfortable and warm. Secondly, Ban attached my label to the front of the hat. The once basic 5 panel hat is now a high end luxurious and understated hat. I will always bring my ideas and visions to Lucy's for Ban's expertise and extensive knowledge and guidance to creating quality garments and one off pieces. I would also not have been able to create these pieces without Ban's very reasonable prices. Lucy's Dress is the place to buy Prom and Special occasion Dresses. We went in yesterday looking for a dress because my daughters first dress had a mishap and we were emergency dress shopping for Grade 8 grad. We were greeted by the owner right away and treated so special from that moment on. She is wonderful. Probably the nicest person running a dress shop that I have ever encountered. She was so kind to my daughter and made her feel so comfortable. We tried on quite a few different dresses and my daughter found the dress that she loved and they had it in stock. The dresses are all wonderful quality. She imports them for the United States and only buys the best. She will also lend hair accessories if you need one to complete that special outfit. Her prices are great and my daughter is in grade 8 so she received a 20 percent discount. She does alterations as well and during the time we were in there, a few young ladies came in and they were are treated like princesses and they all loved the work done on their dresses. She does not promise to get something done if she thinks her time is going to be too tight. She does not want anyone disappointed so she tells the truth from the start. Refreshing. I left there with a huge amount of stress relieved. My daughter was so happy and after being treated so nicely, even if my daughter did not find a dress for herself, I would have bought a dress in there for sure for me. I appreciate great service and wish there were more people running shops like the owner of Lucy's. I will go there first in the future if a dress is needed for a special occasion. As every bride can imagine, the most stressful part of the wedding dress "experience" is putting your precious gown in the hands of someone else to alter it. What if something goes wrong? You have to look perfect on the most important day of your life, but you also don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it. I found Lucy's through google reviews after filtering alterations places that had a 4.0 or higher star rating. The location is super close to my home so I decided to check it out. From the first day my sister and I went there to get our dresses looked at, the ladies were super friendly and accommodating even though we didn't have an appointment booked. They had us try on our dresses first then asked what we wanted to alter and what our budget was. They have many pictures from past brides up on their wall which gave us confidence that they knew what they were doing. They worked incredibly quickly and our first round of alterations were done within 2 weeks, even though Christmas holidays were in that time period. They were super helpful with suggestions but ultimately left the decisions to us as we were the ones that would have to wear the dress in the end. At one point I accidentally pricked my finger on a pin while being fitted for cups, and got some blood on my white dress. She immediately took the dress to the back and knew exactly how to clean it without ruining the fabric which took so much stress off of me. When we picked up the dresses after the final rounds of alterations, everything fit perfectly and looked amazing. There was no loose seam work or errors on either dress. I went to Lucy's to have my wedding dress altered. The ladies were extremely warm and knowledgeable, and did a fantastic job on my dress! I bought my dress off the rack, at 4 sizes too big, and they made it fit me perfectly while meeting all my requests to do additional alterations and details. They give extremely good rates for the amount and quality of work they do. Other great bonuses are that you can rent a hoop skirt for your wedding dress (mine was only $50 to rent) and accessories (My mom/Mother of the Bride rented a purse and a necklace/earring set and was really happy with them). You can save so much money this way for items you'll only use once. Alteration Details: Apart from taking my dress in 4 sizes and shortening it, they also altered the bust, changed the back and were meticulous in removing lace applique from the extra fabric to sew back on to my dress. The back of my dress was a straight horizontal line across the mid-back, and they altered it into a beautiful deep v cut while extending the lace and building lace-illusion like straps. On the front, my dress had an illusion that extended slightly over my shoulders creating cap sleeves. I loved this look, but taking in the dress removed this shape. The ladies were able to remove lace applique from excess fabric and build cap sleeves for me that looked beautiful. They did an excellent job and as a result I got so many compliments on my dress! I wanted to write a review for Lucy's as I recently found myself with a very stressful problem. My daughter got married this past Saturday and I had ordered a dress back in April from a bridal shop that had ensured me I would have the dress in ample time for the wedding. I was 2 weeks out from the wedding and the dress had still not come in! I had stopped in to Lucys back in February where I met Ban -one of the three amazing sisters that own and operate the store. At that time she assured me that she would be able to get me a dress quickly but I still went ahead and ordered a very expensive dress elsewhere. Strangely enough when it came time for my daughter to have her wedding gown altered, Lucys was recommended to us as the place to go! So back I went and met Ban again. Not only did they do an amazing job on my daughters gown, they were able to get me a beautiful dress and alter it within the week. They went above and beyond for me and I feel they would do the same for everybody. The alterations that were done on my dress and more importantly my daughters were done exquisitely and with great care. Ban made sure that everything was done perfectly and charged a very fair price. I brought a dress in to wear to my son's wedding and wasn't sure what do with it. The dress was nice but not spectacular enough for a Mother of the Groom dress. It needed something. I had a minor alteration on the dress for it to fit better. But the best part was all the suggestions they gave me to make it the spectacular dress I needed for the occasion. They added a stunning sparkling rhinestone piece on the waist of the dress. And a crinoline at the bottom of the dress to fan It out like a mermaid style. Both pieces were rented out which I didn't know you could do. The dress was stunning ! Everyone at the wedding commented on my dress all night. I had so many compliments and everyone wanted to know where I got my dress. It was exactly what I was hoping the dress would be and more. I came to Lucy's Prom and Bridal on Kerr Street (Oakville) in September 2014 because I had a wedding to attend the following November. I wanted a replica of a satin dress I saw in the movie Scarface, this was obviously something I would never find in store, I knew I would have to find a dressmaker. I was fortunate enough to meet Ban, as well as her sister. The two own the shop. Ban agreed to make the dress for me, and it turned out to be stunning. It was the exact dress in the movie, she couldn't have come closer. Ban is extremely talented. Not only is she a great designer, she has a degree in engineering. She is more than reasonably priced and she makes me feel like family every time I have gone into her shop. I will defiantly be taking any garments that I have In my closet that don't fit perfectly over for future alterations. How do you thank the person that made you feel so special on my daughter's wedding day. I was referred to Lucy's by a friend, I walked in scared and almost in tears as I had purchased a dress with my daughter last year in Forty McMurray for her wedding September 23, 2016. My daughter lost everything in the fire May 03, 2016 and i had the only dress that survived. Lots of stress, and surgery and I had gained some weight. However the magical skills of my alterations and the support that I received can and will never be forgotten. My dress fit me perfectly after the alterations. I was recommended this shop when I needed my wedding dress altered. Ban is such a friendly and personable woman who does a great job in the shop. She seems truly passionate about what she does and does not cut corners when it comes to what you want. She ended up altering both my white wedding dress and Chinese tea ceremony dress, which were completed beautifully. She provided me with multiple fittings where she could make sure everything was as perfect as possible as she progressed on the alteration ( my wedding dress had many intricate details), and I was very impressed with her creative solution for my Chinese dress when it turned out there was not enough fabric to alter it to my hip size. I needed to have my Wedding dress altered, the dress I purchased was very special to me and was quite expensive. I am new to Oakville, so I was recommended to Lucy's by two women that I work with, both had previously had Lucy complete their Wedding Dress alterations. Both women said that Lucy had a wonderful personality and that she was an absolute professional when it comes to complicated alterations. This was so true! Lucy was absolutely wonderful, she took her time with me in the store pinning and planning. And the final product is absolutely beautiful! The bodice had to be completely re-shaped and there were 5 bustles to be put in. She did this with ease and the outcome is stunning and so flattering. I went to this alteration place after seeing the great reviews online as my bridesmaid dress was a few sizes too small and the wedding was in 3 weeks. The job seemed impossible because the dress was made poorly to begin with and it could only let out about 1 inch when I needed at least 3 inches more material but at my consultation I was measured properly and was told that the dress should be ready within the week of the wedding. I picked up my dress a few weeks later and they managed to fix and make my dress fit me perfectly!!! The price they quoted me was well under what I had originally thought it would cost and all 3 ladies who run the store are very professional, kind and passionate about their work. When I was about to get married I found a dress I loved, but unfortunately it was a size 12 and I am a 0! When I looked into getting it altered I was told elsewhere that it was better for me to buy another dress or pay much more than the price of the dress to get it altered. Since I really liked the dress I kept looking until I found Lucy's Dressmaking & Alterations. Not only did I receive wonderful warm, friendly service, I was also blown away by their work! They basically redid my whole dress to fit me like a glove. They are experts at alterations and I would gladly recommend them to anyone! Since then I've also been back for more dress alterations. I was looking around Oakville trying to find someone to repair an expensive leather car coat zipper and do some alterations on the coat as the hem of the lining had fallen below the leather at the back. Paces like Stitches simply said - go get a zipper somewhere and come back. However when I looked on the net and saw previous positive comments on Lucy's, I decided to try it. The shop is small and unassuming, but the knowledge , professionalism and helpfulness of the staff is amazing. Within 2 minutes they had assessed what needed to be done, explained what they were going to do and why . Gown disaster solved! A huge Thank You to Lucy's Dressmaking and Alterations in Oakville, who without a doubt saved my dress for my masquerade ball tomorrow!!! First I lost 25lbs and the owner made my dress fit me perfectly! And for a reasonable price!! Then at the last minute, Dry cleaners couldn't get the stains out of my gown and the owner dropped everything to cut the train off my dress and re-hem it all in a matter of 3 hours! Don't know what I would have done without her! She saved me! She truly wanted me to be flawless for my party. She herself didn't accept anything less! It's so nice to know there are still honest, reliable, and genuine people that believe in true customer service! So as far as I'm concerned this is the only place to take your garments! My 18 year old and I went looking to find her Grade 12 prom dress a few weeks ago and Lucy's was our first stop. We had the whole day planned with numerous shops to visit and ended up staying almost 2 hours at Lucy's, My daughter tried on various styles of dresses and ironically the first one she tried one was the one we purchased. I took a houndstooth Simon Chang coat to Luci as I live in the area and have only heard great things. The coat was about three sizes too big for me and because of its unique shape, I was very hesitant to have it tailored. After going in and talking with Luci I felt very reassured that she would be able to tailor the coat without compromising its shape or changing any of the details. When the coat was finished I went in for my final fitting and let me just say, wow, the coat fits me like a glove and looks absolutely stunning, I am so impressed. I found Lucy's on the internet and went in because I had major wedding dress regret. I wasn't sure if Lucy's - or anyone- would be able to transform my dress into something I would love - but totally exceeded my expectations, gave great suggestions and completely re-made my dress in a way that looked less poufy and more balanced (the skirt was two tiered-like with an odd bump in the front). I cannot describe in words the work Ban did to my dress that made me love my dress. And trust me, my dress was not simple! The second tier was removed along with layers of 'poufiness'. My daughter lives overseas and returned to Canada less than 2 weeks before her wedding. Her dress required several complicated alterations due to its intricate pattern of lace flowers and sequins. Ban set aside time to have the dress measured and altered in only a week and a half. It fit and looked absolutely lovely.
