Justin even offered to help me unload, but it was even better to see how much the cats loved them! For those who may not be aware, Tar River Veterinary Hospital is under new ownership. Our pets have…read morebeen patients there for nearly five years, but that relationship has now come to an end. About 10 days ago, our daughter brought her beloved cat to Tar River Veterinary Hospital for a flea issue. A veterinary technician applied a topical flea treatment during that visit. Yesterday, after continuing to see fleas, our daughter called the office to ask whether a second treatment was necessary. She was told yes and instructed to bring the cat in. When she arrived, a second dose of the same medication was applied. Only after administering the treatment did the technician review the chart and realize the cat had already received the identical medication just nine days earlier--far too soon for another dose. At that point, they quickly washed the application area with Dawn dish soap and instructed her to take the cat home and monitor for signs of overdose, including drooling, seizures, or neurological symptoms. She was told that if any of these occurred, she should take the cat to an emergency veterinarian. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the error, and no offer to keep the cat for observation--despite having just warned her of potentially serious side effects. She was simply sent home to monitor the situation on her own. The following day, my wife went to the clinic seeking an explanation and to express our concerns about how the situation was handled. One would expect the first question to be whether the cat was okay--but that was not the case. This entire experience was extremely stressful and deeply disappointing. It has left us with little confidence in the clinic's attention to detail or concern for patient safety. As a result, we will not be returning.
