I was excited to learn that this vet offered holistic and alternative treatments. I went in person on TWO separate occasions to try and get some information or get an appointment to see the doctor for my American Bulldogs hemangiosarcoma. The girl in the front took my information for the doctor to get back to me and I never heard back, even after a follow up phone call. I was very dissatisfied with their lack of interest and care. I am thankful for Dr. Machado at Aussie Animal Hospital he has been taking care of both my dogs since day one and has been treating my American Bulldogs cancer for the past 5 years. I was referred here by my regular vet for their ability to treat abnormal cases with animals. For my pet, an 17 year old cat that I had found as a kitten abandoned at publix, was just getting old and her body was shutting down. The diagnosis was an abnormal thyroid that required medication daily to help her through this time. Everyone here at the vet was super friend and helpful, even when all you needed was to just run in to grab mire medication and not see a doctor for a 'checkup' or reason to take more money from you. The overall help was much appreciated and it helped Monkey (my cat) love a lot longer than I would have expected. Utterly Disappointing and Confusing When I was first referred to Dr. Ferran, I noticed he had many great reviews. He still does. But my experience made a complete 180 that left me utterly disappointed and confused. My pet was under the care of Dr. Ferran for 6 months after being diagnosed with a very aggressive type of cancer. The holistic treatment/supplements he prescribed seemed to work as she appeared to be doing great. A few months later, I noticed there was no advice, guidance or encouragement from Dr. Ferran to do an ultrasound or use any other "tool" that could help confirm if there were any new tumors growing. I asked him, but his answer sounded really basic. I started to feel lost and like something was not quite right. I took my pet to another vet for a second opinion, who suggested to start with an EKG immediately, along with a list of other tests and information on what to look for. Well, that's exactly what I was expecting to receive from Ferran. Unfortunately, my pet was recently taken to the emergency room, where I was told that Dr. Ferran's office would fax her medical records until "later that day", but they were needed immediately. Even the ER staff was surprised at their response and apparent lack of concern. Once my pet was discharged, I was advised to follow-up with her veterinarian, and I called Dr. Ferran to ask if I should continue giving my pet the supplements he prescribed or something else. Every time I called during two weeks, I received one of the following excuses from his receptionist: I placed your pet's file on his stack to review, he is in surgery at this time, he has other pets to take care of, your pet's file is still in the stack of files that he has to review, and then came the pearl of all excuses: Dr. Ferran does not specialize in all areas, so he might not be able to assist in this matter. Well, I said, he has been treating my pet AND prescribing supplements for the last 6 months for the same condition she was admitted into the ER for, so....was he not the appropriate veterinarian to treat her from the beginning? Is that what you're saying? (And I thought to myself: well, he sure has been charging me for these services that now appear to be out of his scope of expertise). And then I said "You know, I'm disappointed and confused - is everything all right? Frankly I'm surprised at Dr. Ferran's lack of interest for my pet, as he has been treating her at her sickest and he hasn't called back to see how she's doing and to answer a question that only he can - I need to know if I should continue giving her the supplements that HE prescribed." And then I got a call back from Ferran.....There are things in this world that can be left unsaid because they are self explanatory, but in this case, I want to make sure my message is clear and I want to spell it out: I would never, ever recommend this veterinary clinic nor this veterinarian to anyone. I have been taking my American Bulldog for holistic dermal hemangiosarcoma for the past two years. Was told at a regular vet to give him 5 rounds of chemo which I refused to do after reading about all the side effects. Started on 4 "meds" with Dr Ferran and he has been healthy and happy with no side effects. A couple of scares have been benign so he will continue on his wonder "meds" forever! I went there for my first appointment. I was treated well at the reception and by the staff working there. I met Dr. Ferran and I liked him a lot-the way that he works is admirable. He doesn't just prescribe a medication to get us out of the office. He inspected my dog thoroughly and gave me options in which we could continue treatment. Ive been taking my cats to Dr. Ferran at Ludlum Dixie Animal Clinic for over 10 years now. Dr. Ferran and the staff are professional, trust-worthy, kindhearted, and compassionate. They build bonds with their clients the furry kind and the human kind. My cats have had/have their health issues and Dr. Ferran & Staff always give my cats first-class treatment and continuously monitor every health concern. One of my cats receives acupuncture for arthritis along with treatment for hyperthyroidism. Dr. Ferran has been incredible with keeping me informed with her health and always patient with my questions. I couldn't recommend another veterinarian anymore then Dr. Ferran - He's an extraordinary Vet and an Awesome Guy! read more

I am so glad I found this place. I have a Golden Retriever who has many allergies, and has had many problems pop up since an early age. Dr. Ferran has gotten down to the root of the problem. With his help taking the steps to overcome her allergy, she is doing 90% better, and has almost no discomfort and is itching way less. The whole staff is very patient, well-communicative, and caring towards their customers (that goes for the animals and their owners). Dr. Ferran is a true expert in this field. What I appreciate is him showing what the problem is, the options you can take, and informing you and explaining everything thoroughly. He definitely has a strong love and compassion for animals. My dog is always eager to see everyone at this vet during our visits. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I highly recommend this place to anyone who has pets. read more

I couldn't disagree more with Jessica R. I have been involved with animal rescue for many years, and have never met anyone like Robert Ferran. I have had encounters with many Vets over the years, and, no one, without exception, has been more caring, knowledgeable, professional and considerate of both the patient and the owners. Unlike most Vets, he feels it very important to observe over time, and get to know your pet on a more personal level before treating and determining what the problems might be. Most Vets will just give out medication, and hope for the best result. This will never happen at Dr. Ferran's. If you care more about yourself rather than your pet, this clinic is not for you. I have met people in Dr. Ferran's waiting room who have traveled very far distances for his mode of treating animals. Many of whose pets would not be alive today were it not for his love and care. I'm so grateful that after years of dealing with 3rd rate Vets, my dogs are finally safe. read more

Dr. Ferran is a great Doctor and a great human being and I respect him for that, I can't say the same about his recepcionist and his office manager, to start, the recepcionist is rude and pushy, she should be given a reminder of who the customer is and that the customer is always right, and not to argue with them, at the end of the day customers are the ones that pay the bills, i know that by having my own business for 15+ years. in regards to the office manager, he is not only disrispectful, but also rude and very arrogant, perhaps one day Dr. Ferran will find out the class of characters he has in the front, which will damage his reputation at some point. He is propbably unaware because they are the gate keepers for him. Very sad case, i will never reccomend that clinic until they have a shake up on the front counter. read more

Dr. Ferran and his staff are top-notch! Besides their friendly attitude, they did deeper to solve the problems, taking a holistic approach. Our cat had a difficult-to-diagnose hair-plucking and vomiting problem--vomiting several times a day. After expensive ultrasound and xrays at another vet left us still without answers or a solution, we went to see Dr. Ferran. He asked us about our lifestyle, the time we spent with our cat, how she fit in with the family, and changes to routine, etc. He correctly diagnosed her plucking and vomiting as a nervous/emotional issue brought on by abrupt changes in our routine--and time with her dropping to a lower priority--and recommended we incorporate the cat more with our daily routine. After taking Dr. Ferran's advice, we saw an immediate improvement. Our cat's hair-plucking and vomiting has reduced by 95%. She still plucks her hair--but it is when we can't pay attention to her for the moment. I wish we had seen Dr. Ferran first, instead of spending $1000+ on diagnostics at another vet who couldn't correctly diagnose the problem. GOLD BEAD IMPLANTS... Let me tell you about what happened after I came home from Dr Ferrans' office. I felt okay when I came home and got to each a scrumptious dinner. Within a few days I was running in the yard after my tennis ball. Really, did I say running - I was bounding after my tennis ball. I couldn't wait to get it back to my owner and do it all over again. Now you have to understand that I've been wanting to lie down on that thing my owners call 'the couch'. But my back wouldn't bend very well and I just couldn't get my legs lifted high enough to try it out. Well it had been about two weeks since 'the beads' were placed and I'd been feeling pretty perky. So after my owners went to sleep, I gingerly got up on the couch, curled up and slept all night. Unfortunately I didn't hear the alarm and got caught sneaking down off the couch. I don't appreciate working with a vet who refuses to listen to the client. Believe it or not, we know our pets best, not you. Perhaps taking a more collaborative approach could have saved this client relationship. I asked for a call back and received nothing. They didn't even try to understand my position.
