I'm not sure why I haven't taken time to review Pets & Vets! I owe them so much. I am very grateful for Dr. Javier Andreu his staff, Dr Cardoso, and techs. Dr. Javier Andreu has taken care of our pets for about 10 years, and I recently lost my beloved 17 year old cat, Opie, who he helped so much, extending his life. If I could have asked the doctor to be his godfather I would have! I don't understand the 1-2 negative reviews. If anything the doctor has volunteered time at clinics, is specialized in his training, and is a well-rounded doctor who will do everything he can to help you and your pets. He is compassionate, extremely intelligent, and my husband and I are grateful for his generosity and expertise. I trust him fully and he is fair and has integrity. I suppose any office can get busy as others do (depending on a surgery, emergency, someone they've made time for) and that is a good sign, but he will do everything he can to help you. Have faith. To say that this vet is unethical is an understatement. When I first went I was impressed how he took action even though I'd never had a vet do any work on my pets without first giving me an estimate. That said, I was concerned about my dog, particularly when right off the bat he told me she had a heart murmur. I was presented with a hefty bill and an urgent request for a heart ultrasound. My dog is a senior and had dental issues that required surgery. After the first encounter and unexpected bill, I emailed with a request for an estimate for the ultrasound and surgery. They rarely pick up the phone, if they do you are put on permanent hold, and they do not respond to emails I finally received the estimates and agreed to the ultrasound. My dog was kept in a cage from 9am - 5pm with an apparent pee break with a leash that was incorrectly attached to the collar which I noticed when I picked her up. She frightens easily and runs so I'm grateful she wasn't hurt. When I picked her up she was shaking and scared. I turned her around when we got home to realized she'd been nicked and hurt when being shaved. She's only 19 pounds and well behaved so this was careless and unnecessary. After realizing I was more a number and my pets well being was secondary, I contacted the person who'd recommended him. We compared bills and I was substantially overcharged across the board. I also learned that he charges according to mood and his billing department is a mess. I wrote him letting him know he'd mistaken me for someone wealthy and that I'd been overcharged, and of course, I never received a response. He may be a decent vet but his business practices are unethical at best. His staff, a revolving door, is improperly trained and below the standards of any vet I've ever visited. To boot, they didn't even respond to my pet insurance company. Shameful! I'll try attaching the picture of the other side which is much worse and I can't now. read more

I've waited six weeks to write this review in the hopes that what I share is fair and balanced. Maybe I was misinterpreting things? Maybe I was having an emotional reaction? Or maybe, after six weeks of time, I was exactly right. What I saw and what I experienced was not good. So, here goes: I've been a dog owner for my entire life, and have had the joys of training puppies, rehabilitating strays, and helping older dogs in their final days until they leave this world. During that time, I've had tons of vet visits...some good and some ok. My visit to Pets & Vets stands out as the worst. In early November, my girl Lucy, who is almost 13, had a serious health-related incident that required two days of hospitalization. Her time at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Aventura was, although harrowing, wonderful. They took amazing care of her and we had the amazingly large bill to prove it. However, these are our kids and when it comes to them money is the least of our worries. When she returned home, we nursed her, gave her eight pills a day at varying times, and scheduled an appointment for one month later with Pets & Vets to do additional testing in the hopes that we could diagnose her issues. We were hopeful that the more advanced testing touted on their website would help with that. So, one month later we went to the appointment with hope in our hearts. When we arrived, the front desk staff welcomed us, checked us in, and was pleasant. Ah, hope. Maybe this was the right place. Maybe they could help. Then, we were ushered to an exam room and we calmly settled in to wait. As we waited, I began to notice the dirt in the corners of the room. The exam room looked shabby. Not only shabby, but unclean. My mind thought, "Hmm...this isn't a good sign." However, I shrugged it off thinking that they are probably really busy and they would clean at the end of the day. Yes, that's what they'll do. So, we continued to wait...for over an hour. In the meantime, I organized my thoughts for the doctor. Lucy had history that needed to be shared clearly. I had her previous test results from VEG including bloodwork and an ultrasound. I was ready. When the doctor finally came in, we began sharing her history and answering his questions. However, his demeanor was not the caring, compassionate style to which we were accustomed from vets. No, his style was one of "machismo". It was surprising...jarring. To illustrate that, here are a few examples: - He asked what we were feeding her. I began to tell her that we make her food and he gave me a judgmental look of "sure you do, but you're doing it wrong." Then he began to lecture me on nutrition and that he could (for extra $$$) consult on her diet. I stopped him and told him that the recipe we use is from a nutritionist and designed for her health concerns. Then he realized that the recipe used was designed by the same company he was about to push on us. So, that conversation stopped dead. Good. Now let's move onto the real issues. The issue is not her diet. - Lucy had lost 5 lbs off her 24 LB frame in two years. That's a big percentage to lose. I raised that concern and he said, "She's perfect. She's fine. Don't make her gain weight." I pointed out her muscle loss and the places where her skeleton was prominent. He waved my concerns away and reinforced that there wasn't a problem. FYI: The weight loss was and is a symptom of her condition, a symptom that he chose to ignore. - Then, we got to her liver. Blood tests can only go so far and signs were pointing to the need for a liver biopsy. I knew that already, and I shared with him that since Lucy was almost 13 and frail that I didn't want to put her through anything invasive if at all possible. That's when he said in a burst of machismo, "There are a few ways to do a liver biopsy. The first is we put her on the table and put her out. We cut her open and take the liver out. Then we put it on the table and we look at it." Ok, let's pause there: This is my daughter. You want to "CUT HER OPEN" and "TAKE HER LIVER OUT" and "PUT IT ON A TABLE" and "LOOK AT IT"? That was the final straw. I barely heard the other words he said. He had just proven himself to not the right vet for us. That said, Lucy still needed testing. So, we had her blood drawn, paid, and left with no more answers than we had when we arrived. But we had the bonus of the vision of her cut open on a table in a dirty exam room, so...there was that. We waited for the results. Nothing. I called. Waited. Nothing. Finally, I was told that her results were available on an app that I had to download. No call from the doctor to consult on her results and give us hope. Nope. Just an app. Long story long: I view Pets & Vets as a pitstop on Lucy's journey, and forwarded the test results to our regular vet in Massachusetts. We did and she said, "These tests are useless," and that is what my experience was with Pets & Vets: Useless. read more

They are willing to let my dog, Goliath die because I can't come up with $2,000 and some odd dollars. They told me that my dog needs to be hospitalized immediately but would not work with me with a payment plan after I have already paid them over $500.00 in veterinarian bills. My baby has an inflamed pancreas and is throwing up blood and pooping blood and they told me it is life threatening yet refuse to hospitalize him because of money. Told me it was "common sense" to have a cat in a carrier (a cat of whom 1. was on a leash, in my arms and 2. will absolutely NOT get in a carrier despite my best efforts for the previous hour) because there was a dog there who doesn't like cats. Lets note that there was a small dog literally on the lap of its owner- to my right. So after I had to walk 2 blocks back to my car, cat in tow, because there is no parking whatsoever for this place, I call to ask for his records, cancel my TWO appointments & mention that maybe the receptionist shouldn't be an a$$ to me when I walk in. I brought my pup here in 2019 while on a month-long stay in Miami. Before departing, she had bad diarrhea. I took her to my local vet (in NY) but after finishing a round of antibiotics, she was still not well. It was the 2nd time she had been sick that year (pancreatitis earlier that year and numerous bouts with bad digestion). Within 24 hours of her visit with Dr. Javier, my pup had a solid bowel movement for the first time in 3 weeks. It was a miracle. He gave her prescription pre and probiotics, and natural treatments too. AND he recommended I bring her in again because of her arthritis, something my vet at home had never even mentioned or paid attention to. We did go back before leaving town, and once again he helped her. Got her on supplements and an anti-inflammatory, and gave her a diet change that greatly helped both her digestion and her arthritis. Seeing Dr. Javier gave her years back on her life. She is living with more ease and freedom thanks to his attentiveness. I am only disappointed that we live so far away. This is by far the best vet in the Miami area. The entire staff is knowledgeable and you can easily tell how much they care about the patients. I thought my cat would die after going into liver failure and under Dr. Javiers guidance she not only lived, she made a full recovery. The office was also prompt when it came to answering e-mails and calls and updated regularly while my cat stayed overnight. I also brought a foster kitten there who had a terrible foot injury. The rescue organization the kitten belonged to, Good Karma Pet Rescue, was convinced the kitten would have to lose the the limb. Not only did Dr. Javier save the leg, after two weeks, what once looked like a bloody mass now looks like a paw. The passion for animals and the knowledge of the staff here is unrivaled. We brought our cat Sofia to Pets and Vets Animal Clinic because of a chipped tooth. The veterinarian, who is the head surgeon there, Dr. Javier examined our kitty and mentioned that the tooth should be taken out. He scheduled her for surgery a week later. He also took her blood for analysis to make sure she is healthy enough for surgery. To my surprise (even before the blood results were in) he started her on a round of heavy duty antibiotics called Clyndamicyn that very night. He said that the antibiotics need to be in her system before surgery. 5 days into the drug being in her system she started having diarrhea and vomiting. She wasn't holding any food or water at all. We took her back to the vets office and she was given a shot for diarrhea and pills for vomiting that worked ok until they wore off. 3 days later the diarrhea and vomiting came back. Again we're back at the office to receive another anti-vomit shot (which is really painful to a cat) and more anti-diarrhea pills. We were very concerned by then and asked why this was happening and even consulted another vet later on, who told us that her tooth did not actually need surgery or antibiotics. It was unfortunately too late, she already had a bad reaction to the antibiotics. We saw our cat fading away and were desperate to help her. In desperation we ended up asking my brother, who is a human medical doctor in Europe what to do. After telling him that she was given a drug called Clyndamicyn he literally laughed and mentioned that these are typical side effects and that what she now has is Colitis which is inflammation of the colon in the entire digestive tract.. He said that no one prescribes this drug in Europe anymore because it gives Colitis both to humans and animals. He said that the anti-vomit and the anti-diarrhea medication would not help. The only drug that would heal her is a drug called Metronidazole but there still was a 50/50 chance that she will not make it. We decided to listen to my brother and get Metronidazole. Sofia was not getting better and we could tell she was in her last days. She started sitting under the cabinet where she never sat before and looking lifeless. Once we knew which medication she needed we did go back and spoke to the other veterinarian at Pets and Vets who was very patient and listened to all of our questions. We asked for a prescription for Metronidazole and we purchased it and gave it to Sofia on the same day. It worked. Thankfully 3 days into the new medication her appetite returned and the diarrhea improved and eventually stopped. My brother told us that we were very lucky that the first round of Metronidazole worked and helped with the Colitis. It took me a long time to write this review because it was so upsetting and I didn't want to sound like I was just ranting in anger. It has been nagging me until this day and I felt I needed to share it with all pet owners who might visit this clinic or any other clinic for that matter. Please do your research and question everything. All and all Pets and Vets was a stressful, negative and eventually expensive experience that we learned a lot from. Before bringing our cat there we actually looked at the reviews for this clinic and they looked promising. Unfortunately it turned out nearly fatal. She was given a medication that gave her colitis and then they couldn't figure out that it was the medicine that made her sick. That's not very professional and it almost killed our cat. Also we were told that her tooth needed to be surgically extracted (with the usage of anesthesia) and now a year later that same tooth is fine and she eats comfortably. Thank God I thought to ask my brother, in desperation did my own research and consulted another vet. In summary I just want to say that you can't just trust the reviews. Question everything and go with your gut feeling. Your pet is precious. read more

Javier was great the first time I went and so was the lady up front. I was so happy because this place was right next door, they have an online app they use and seemed really awesome all around. The second time I went, the other vet on staff handled my 3 pound Pomeranian so roughly. He grabbed her by the face and then tried to open her mouth without even warning me. So she gnarled at the vet, and goes you should train her better. Never before or after has she snapped or growled at a person or dog. Come to find out they didn't do the rabies vaccine they were supposed to that they scheduled and have no idea why. On my way out I asked for an estimate for the spay. The lady up front was very scattered and/or busy. She goes just call me when you get home. I called her a week later and she said I had to bring her back in for the estimate. Very confused, I go you told me to call back to get it over the phone and just saw my puppy a week ago. So I decided to get estimates elsewhere with places that value my time and are much more organized. When I called back to get the medical records today and ask why the rabies shot wasn't done, the lady was quick to accuse me to not come back to a follow up when she had the records in front of her. If I could give ZERO stars I would!!! I had a pet emergency as my dog was having seizures and trembling. I was tapping on the door with my phone as best I could because the doors are locked and my hands were full holding my sick dog. The disheveled looking older middle aged woman was extraordinarily RUDE beyond BELIEF! I have tears streaming down my face screaming through the door "please please help me!" (I wasn't sure if my dog had a heart attack or was having seizures) bc it's locked as she SLOWLY walks over...she tells me to not bang or kick her door. I NEVER did either of those things. The service in this establishment is SO POOR! Then she tells me with her nasty mean voice..."Do you want to go somewhere else?!" I had to drive to 25 minutes to Banfield Midtown where we were greeted with kindness and they moved fast and efficiently to stabilize my dog as she was on the verge of dying. After Banfield Midtown (Amazing place) stabilized my dog they referred me to the Pet Emergency Room (Amazing Place) where I am currently waiting for my dog and I am writing this TERRIBLE review. If you care about your pet and love them like your family. PLEASE don't go there! You will regret it. That woman is in the wrong profession. My dog had been losing mobility in her hind legs and kept falling and unable to walk and after seeing another vet, I decided to bring my 12 year old boxer dog to Dr. Javier to explore acupuncture as a possible treatment and see if it made an improvement in my dogs mobility. It completely helped after only 2 treatments! The vet suggested a combination of acupuncture, steroid shots, anti-inflammation medication and daily stretches and my dog is now able to walk again. We went from 2 treatments a week to one and she is doing much better as I am too. I highly recommend Dr. Javier and my dog does too. read more

I am an extreme dog/animal lover. I had been a long time advocate for Banfield figuring any insurance to cover your pet is better than none. However, when my American Bully got sick dropping in weight from 107lbs to 84lbs within 3 months, Banfield had no answers and just kept suggesting the same tests. In a moment of desperation for answers and few options w the bills draining us we turned to Instagram and social media to ask people for suggestions on alternate vet options. Another dog obsessed friend highly recommended Pets and Vets. To begin, their fees are fair and allow you to give your pet the treatment they need. You can immediately see the love and care that the doctors and assistants have to help the animals. In one visit we assessed a treatment plan and now on the third visit we are able to identify a partial blockage in his large intestines. Not only are we able to figure out what's going on with our gentle giant but we are also able to better afford the cost of treating him. If you own a pet I urge you to at least take the time to visit this clinic and see for yourself the quality treatment your furry buddy would receive. 4 thumbs up : including my toes for this one. read more

I'm leaving this feedback in hopes that Javier the vet sees it because this negative feedback is not directed at him as a vet (he is wonderful) but the horrible customer care his front desk assistant offers and how they treat customers. I have a dog and 2 rescued cats, my big male cat is a very traumatized cat that was abused by humans and is basically terrified of human touch. He passed from foster to foster, and was 24/7 kept in a cage because they said he was not friendly and aggressive. He is not aggressive at all he is such a sweet cat, he is just terrified of human touch, who knows what thy did to this angel;-( It has taken me a whole year for him to trust me enough to allow me to pet him! I don't care how long it will take me, I'm committed to show this beautiful cat that not all humans are horrible, that he can trust me, and that he will NEVER be hurt again, but it's a challenge when it comes to trusting humans or being touched by them. I called the clinic because my cats and dog got fleas and even though it's totally under control, I wanted to ask Javier if he could recommend me a better brand? The receptionist told me that she will go ask and be right back. When she came back, she told me that I needed to take ALL the animals to the vet. For a question about flea brands? I asked. So I explained to get that it is not that I didn't want to go but that it was not easy for me to take all my animals there as I could NOT take my male cat, specially if it was not for an emergency, considering the special situation with this cat. The receptionist told me to wait again and left the phone. Then another woman answered the phone this time, and with the most rude and unfriendly voice she loudly said "how can I help you?" to what I responded that I was actually waiting for them to tell me that. She immediately raised her voice and just said "you have to bring all your pets here if you want any help" I tried to explain to her as I did with the other receptionist that it was not that easy for me because of my male cat. She then said "well if you don't bring all your animals here we cannot help you" I AGAIN tried to explain the situation with my Male cat and told her that for Javier to prescribe for him some other medicine, he didn't make me bring the cat but rather I just had to tell him his weight over the phone and other info he required, but he didn't make me take the cat there for such a small thing, KNOWING the situation with this cat. I also reminded her that this clinic was known for being so "cat friendly" so I was asking them to be compassionate understand the situation and please help me. At the end of the day I was just asking Javier for some flea brand recommendation. She then yelled at me that unless I din't bring ALL the animals there they won't help me, and then she hanged the phone on me! I could not believe this just happened. I could not sleep thinking about it, and the next day instead of looking for a new vet I called again because I just wanted to leave a message for Javier the vet. I asked them to let him the message that I wanted to talk to him about what happened the day before and requested for him to please call me at anytime that will be good for him, considering how busy he is. Why would I change vets just because of this horrible woman? I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and speak with Javier myself. Two weeks have passed and no one have cared to call back. Now, two things could have happen. One is that they told Javier and he didn't care? I kinda doubt this, so the other option in my mind is that they NEVER gave my message to Javier and he doesn't even know what is going on. Then if this is the case, I truly hope he sees this feedback and become aware of the absolutely horrible customer care his assistant provides, the awful way she treats people and the lack of empathy and understanding for a special situation with a cat. I want to keep my vet, I just wish we could communicate with him personally at times, because I think the way I was treated is completely unacceptable. This animal clinic is a life saver.. in so many ways. I have TWO one year old cats that I rescued from abandonment last August. I brought them to Dr. Andreu for the first time then and will be a customer for life. Dr. Andreu and his staff really gained my trust when my cat jumped off the balcony and broke his leg last Christmas. I was a mess and had no idea what to do. Dr. Andreu guided me and performed a flawless femoral head osteotomy to repair the leg. Absolutely zero complications and amazing work- within a month my cat was running around the house like nothing happened. They helped me out with a finance plan and they always offer me ways to save money. He is the kindest vet, and is so knowledgeable. Dr. Osvaldo is also a kind and patient vet. The rest of the staff is equally as wonderful. Tania is the sweetest thing, and Ruth is lovely. They don't ever make me feel bad for being a crying blubbering mess when my little buddy isn't well. Today, even though the power went out right before I arrived, Dr. Andreu still saw my dog & was as amazing as always. Dr Andreu started taking care of our 13 year old dog since we moved to Miami last year. Unfortunately our dog was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer 3 months ago and just passed away. Dr Andreu was there until the end. When my dog got very sick and we couldn't carry her from the car into the office, he came out and carried her himself. He has a great bedside manner and is really dedicated to his craft. Highly recommend him! read more

DO NOT COME HERE!! they make you wait for over an hour and a half even if you have an appointment and they charge you bizarre amounts of money. I found a cat on the street and took it here and the only thing they did was take out something he had on his ear and they charged me $400. read more

Came here for a benign tumor removal. My dog is a geriatric patient of doctor Andreu and it was important to know his health status prior the surgery. Doctor Andreu is a very meticulous vet. He has multiple certifications that he has adquiere to do special procedures including some orthopedics and he is extremely knowledgeable Fromm the most routine case to the most complex. He made sure by running the appropriate diagnostics that my old man was in acceptable health conditions for the surgical procedure. He was fast and efficient during the procedure and my dog recuperate my fast and without any complications. Max didn't even have a scar after his procedure. This vet offers cold laser therapy which helped my dog's healing at a faster pase. Laser therapy provides healing by decreasing inflammation and decreasing pain. They have now moved to a new location which is pretty close from their original corner on 71st street but this location is way more spacious. Dr. Andreu had to expand since now he will be providing other revivís which require more equipment and work space. Very happy to bring my dog here for veterinary services. All of the equipment is state of the art and the prices for the services cannot be beat. It is the most inexpensive and complete veterinary hospital in the state. read more

Awesome clinic! I've been taking both of my two dogs, a Shih Tzu and a Pomchi for years and it's hard to say anything negative about this clinic, their staff, doctors and specially Dr Osvaldo. I just want to start off by saying I been coming to this clinic roughly about 10 years since my first dog out of 3 and honestly I wouldn't trade the clinic nor the staff for nothing in the world. GREAT STAFF and CUSTOMER SERVICE the receptionist always greets with a smile and very helpful. More then all I want to thank Dr.Osvaldo for all that he has done for my dogs and myself he is very knowledgeable and helpful any questions that I may have I know I can text him and get an immediate response and for that I will always be grateful. One of my dogs suffers from seizures and my other dog lost her vision and during Dr.Osvaldo was always there keeping in contact making sure the dogs was ok and taking the required medication. My dogs love Dr.Osvaldo and the clinic Pets & Vets I wish I can give them a million stars ! THANK YOU ! read more
