This is not a solid 3 unless you eat the tenderloin. Tenderloin is a 4. They have good ranch. Salad had a little piece that looked like it should have been thrown away. Hashbrowns were ordered extra crispy but were not extra crispy in my opinion. Onion rings were pretty good but they had a lot of black pepper. My steak was not cooked to my request. The flavor tasted like it had a fake chemical smoke on it. The tenderloin saved the whole dinner. The fries tasted like they weren't cooked in hot enough grease. I would come back for the tenderloin. Apprehensively walked in 30 minutes before close following a game. They told me to come in and sit. Everyone was helpful and friendly, from the bartender to the cook, to whom I'm guessing was the owner. The steak was cooked nicely and was seasoned well enough that no sauce was needed. I elected the fried potatoes as my starch option...these are nice thin slices and not the stupid cubes I've seen pop up recently at some establishments. You get a trip through the salad bar as well--it's small compared to the bigger ones at a place like Chicago Speakeasy, but there's plenty here to whet your appetite. I appreciate the dressings being in carafes vs bowls that eliminates cross-contamination. If you're a tenderloin fan, Ludlow's was runner-up for best tenderloin in the state last year. Might have to say food was a 4, but service and staff made up for it, so 5 it is. Wife and I here for 25th Anniversary dinner, and honestly there are not many places to eat. Thought we'd try here and glad we did. First, all the staff was so nice and were working hard (pretty busy Saturday evening). Tenderloin is apparently the crown jewel, but we were looking to splurge a bit. My wife cannot eat very much, so we sometimes try to be creative, or end up with lots to take home. We are the epitome of surf (her) and turf (me) and there was steak and lobster on the menu. Asked our server Maddie if there was any way we could share it. Absolutely! So wife took the trip to the salad bar and lobster, while I had the steak and side (baked potato). Perfect quantities for us, and we so appreciated them accommodating! The nitty gritty: Limited but good salad bar. Lobster good, but prime rib definitely medium when medium rare was ordered. It was good, though, and they had real horseradish! Wine list very limited, and my glass, while very generous, tasted like it was not a fresh bottle but a re-cork. Not pricey though, so kind of a wash. The meal was probably a little on the pricey side for the area, but we were not unhappy. The staff saves the day, and our Maddie was a gem. Asked her a wine question, she admitted she didn't know but found out. Good on her, and she was so sweet, efficient, and accommodating. Expensive and food was like bar food. The prices did Not match the quality of food. Was like bar food with California prices. Server was nice and polite. Atmosphere felt great welcoming. But be sure to take ur routing number with u good lord lol. read more

We came to Corydon to go to the Prairie Trails Museum and then come to Ludlow's for dinner. It seems pretty popular with the local crowd and our server Jessica was very nice. We had onion rings and cheese nuggets for appetizers. My son and I had tenderloin sandwiches and my wife had the philly cheese steak sandwich. The tenderloin was good but not the best I've ever had. The onion rings were tasty and the salad bar was fresh and had an adequate sampling of different items. The atmosphere was country casual / sports bar feel. Full bar. I was a bit surprised by the prices. I am from Maui and the prices were similar to back home rather than what I would expect in rural Iowa. Oh well, we like to support the local economy. This place was good before, but new owners re-opened Oct/Nov 2013. There isn't a single thing on the menu that you won't just LOVE. I've been there three times since the new owners and each time I try something else on their menu. I've had their Steak Diane, Pork Tenderloin sandwich, and their always fabulous Ribs. The onion rings are a must. You must also try one of their Margaritas--its the owner own recipe. Ludlow's may be in a small town, but don't let that fool you. They're always packed. I live 45 miles away. Although I could be in Des Moines in 40 minutes, I'd rather drive 40 minutes and be in Corydon at Ludlow's. read more

I was referred here after a mediocre dinner at Bogie's in Albia. But once again, Steaks were average/decent. Not very flavorful, just tastes like unseasoned meat. The salad bar is pretty fair too- small selection. Wait staff pretty nice, overall it was a nice experience but probably won't be going back. read more
