Lucile's steak and spirits sits in the beautifully restored historic Continental hotel. (John Wick fans, nope...not that one) Actually beautiful is an understatement...more like stunning. Upon entering, you are greeted by quite possibly the friendliest, warm hearted staff you'll ever encounter. These gals know how to work a room! Oh, yeah...I guess food is also served here lol. This is a very 'American' menu, if there ever was one. Lunch features a good deal of regional options, many I've never actually ever heard of. Cheese curds, fried pickles, and what's Iowa corn nuggets? Turns out the Iowa corn nuggets is a deep fried corn fritter. Sweet on the inside, perfectly crispy on the outside. I also go for the Reuben which happens to be the item of choice for most visitors. Personally not a fan of Ruebens, but this is a nicely built sandwich with very high quality ingredients...down to the sourkrout and rye bread. Lucile's is a good pick for a high quality lunch in an even higher quality setting. Not at all knocking the meal, but the historical property is what will leave a lasting impression.

Beautiful, unique setting with history. We loved our table.

This has been hit and miss for us. Burgers good. Spinach salad great. Ruben sandwich and fries cold.

The food and service is always very, very good! Just wish they served a really good queso with their taco salad!

My ribeye steak was cooked to perfection. The loaded baked potato and house salad were okay. I also liked the carrot cake.

Bogie's Steak House - Albia, IA (1.25ish hours south of DSM)…read more Calling all steak burger connoisseurs! Warning: if you're the "I eat my burgers with duck confit mayo, fig-bacon jam, and jalapeño-garlic aioli" I would steer clear of this burger. This is for a true midwestern steak burger and, if that's your jive, then you must try Bogie's Steak House in Albia. $11.75 for a MASSIVE steak burger resting between two tried and true thick sliced Texas toast, topped with Swiss and American cheese, pickle and white onion slices. No ketchup, mustard or mayo served with the meals here, nor is it needed; their "house seasoning" is the cat's meow. Includes a baked potato, butter, sour cream, and 1 trip to the salad bar. Don't even think about subbing your baked potato for onion rings or french fries because a baked potato is your only option. Salad bar was meh, but they don't specialize in a salad bar so no harm, no foul. Thought it was 1000 dressing but nope...more like Dorothy Lynch or some other dressing of similar coloring. No signage so couldn't tell. Ranch tasted like fat-free Ranch so that was disappointing but, again, I didn't come here for the unlabeled salad bar. Macaroni salad and potato salads were good. The Bogie Cut Prime Rib (16-18oz) was awesome. I asked what the difference between the Bogie cut vs. Petite cut was, and I got "big or small"...fair enough! Au jus was nothing special but the seasoning used on the PR was spectacular, no au jus needed. Different than the special seasoning in/on their steak burger but equally as delightful. Very generous cut of delicious prime rib (my absolute fav). I must say, anywhere I go and see prime rib on the menu, I get it - hands down. But I ended up longing for more bites of the steak burger than my prime rib. That's a first! Ambience: small town supper club. Nothing fancy, no frills but ladies do take a trip to the ladies room for a good laugh at the hilarious quotes on the wall. $60 total with tip + both meals + 2 beers. I've spent more than that on one meal at other places that have served my burgers with weird toppings, but you won't find a fufu burger here. In fact, there's only one option: Bogie's Steak Burger. I'd gladly drive to Bogie's any day of the week!

Presuming our son ends up going to Truman, we will be back. To start, the rolls are fresh baked every day and served with local honey butter. They are amazing! Easily the best bread I have ever had. They are a cross between a yeast roll and a biscuit with a hint of sweetness...incredible! My son had the chicken piccata which, though the portion was a bit small, was extremely flavorful. He ate every bit. I had the prime rib sandwich. The portion was large with plenty of provel cheese, onions and mushrooms. It was also delicious. My wife got a giant pile of roast pork served with warm apples and a sweet glaze. The pork was fall apart tender and the glaze added a punch of flavor. All 3 of us had the home fries as the side. These were the crispiest potatoes I have ever had in my life. 10/10. Out waitress/hostess had plenty to do (I think she may have bend doing kitchen prep as well) but she was friendly, welcoming and accommodating. A few tips: the restaurant is very small with few staff (like one person who is the hostess and waitress for the entire place). Reservations strongly recommend. And maybe don't come here if you're in a hurry. Service was not fast but it's clearly because they are taking great care with the food and preparing everything fresh to order. The menu changes frequently so check their Facebook for the latest. All of the food is made fresh and they do run out. Book early in the evening if there is something you have your heart set on.

My aunt called on two separate occasions to make reservations for our larger group. We walked in on the night of my cousin's graduation to celebrate a huge milestone. We walked in and the hostess stated she didn't have our reservation, another lady who was either the owner or manager came up hot and bothered and was EXTREMELY rude. On a hospitality level I give her a -50. She very rudely stated she didn't have our reservation and continued to be awful as we tried to clarify that we had made a reservation. Even if she could have been nice and apologetic about the reservation misunderstanding, I wouldn't have stayed to eat here and support this business. People need to learn how to treat other humans nicely. This lady was NOT nice, one of the rudest restaurant encounters I've ever had.
