I have gone to this Luekens location as well as Total Wine. But from now on I will avoid this Luekens. The cashiers, especially the short one by the front door, has been rude on a number of occasions. Ignoring the customer she is supposed to be waiting on and chit chatting with other employees is rude. And she generally has an attitude. In contrast, Total Wine employees have always been courteous and friendly. From now on they will get my business. read more

I've never been TRULY disappointed by this place. My tastes are fairly simple when it comes to wine. For the most part we simply get Paisano to drink with dinner (cheap Carlo Rossi crap in a 3L bottle). They usually have it in stock, albeit not 100% of the time (it's popular with the old folks who overrun the neighborhood). Anyhow, their selection of wines is awesome. On those occasions when we don't "slum" with our wine, I've noticed they have a broad selection of nearly every type of varietal at all different price points. They'll never beat Total Wine but the prices are quite comparable. The same is true for both warm and chilled beers. Again, the selection isn't the most comprehensive but they have most everywhere else beat by both selection and price (take THAT, ABC!) in a close market where convenience is king. I've run across many European and Asian brews that can be tough to find. In addition, their variety of hard liquor, liqueur and aperitifs is astounding! I've found all kinds of oddball whiskeys, vodkas and even a few brands of ouzo (I AM half Greek, ya know) that I can't and won't find anyplace else...unless I go way out of my way to Total Wine. Good selection of mixers, snacks and even a walk-in humidor for the cigar smokers out there. Finally, this particular outpost of the regional chain is comfortable and friendly. I know many of the clerks and management types, who in turn remember me and treat me professionally yet in a very down to earth and friendly way. I used to live less than a mile away when I first moved to FL. Since I left there and bought my townhome, I still shop there for the exact reasons I state here. There were and are other liquor stores closer than they are to where I am. I don't care, however, because they have all I really need and more at the best prices around. Once I landed in Clearwater I asked my cab driver to stop at the nearest liquor store. So he stopped at this liquor store and said have fun. And boy was he right, this fine liquor store had everything I needed to make my first few nights happy. I liked the friendly service I got from here the,owner was very nice and gave me some great places to try while I was staying. The store was very clean and had great prices on tequila. Wow! So many kinds of liquor! I bought Japanese Pear-infused Sake, Israeli Arak, and Florida's version of MadDog 20/20 called "99". This store has almost everything and gave me lots of good ideas for an afterwork cocktail or a classic Brandy cordial. Now I need to buy a good bartender guide and a blender, but I started a classy liquor collection and am looking forward to experimenting with all the fruit-flavored alcohols that are so Florida. read more

just paid US$99.50 for a regular bottle of Blanton's which is usually US$66-72. They also have their own label single barrel from Blanton's just for Lukens. Also, US$99.50 ! Strange. Called, but they stuck to their story, both the same whiskey and the same price. Then why the different bottle? Lukens has a great selection, but so does ABC, Total Wine and Universal, they have more rare Bourbons than any other store. I just think Lukens' staff is not well trained nor very welcoming. Great liquor store. They have everything you need, in a variety of sizes, and more, plus the prices are fantastic. My only suggestion would be to carry more local/Florida beers. They also sell some tasty look snacks--cheese, crackers, etc., which is helpful. I found the younger staff to be friendlier and more helpful than the older staff, so if you have questions, ask them. The older staff was a bit rude and failed to answer my questions or help me find what I was looking for. However, it's a great store for all your boozy desires. read more

My wife was in to pick me up a little surprise tonight (sweet of her!!!) and when she asked for a particular bottle the girl (Marey) snapped at her saying "we don't have anything here that people want". I was visiting from Orlando, this is a stop I would make while in the Tampa area. I enjoyed chatting with the craft beer guy, prices were good and they had a nice stock of Cigar City in the fridge. This is my go-to liquor store. While their main (and ridiculously stocked) store is located in Dunedin, this location always has what I need - be it rum (I'm somewhat of a rum connoisseur), whiskey, scotch, domestic/imported beers, wine and even a decent selection of cigars. My favorite part of shopping with Luekens is their unbelievable prices. They frequently beat out Total Wine & More, Publix and other liquor stores on price. I once found Pyrat XO Reserve rum here for $9.99 a bottle, while the competition was selling it for $29.99 - I kid you not! I had to ask if the price was correct - then bought the entire shelf's worth! Their employees are also very knowledgeable on their spirits. I recently asked for a recommendation for a good wine (I'm not a wine drinker) and was steered to a nice German wine by the store manager. My dinner guests raved about how good it was. Decided to go to Luekens since it was closer than driving to Countryside to the store I normally go to. This will be a one time visit after the lack of customer service I received. Placed an order online on the 26th. On the 3rd of Jan. my card was charged, but I never received any shipping notice. Followed up on the 8th requesting shipping status. Was told that the one item I was interested in was out of stock, and they emailed me regarding a substitution. I wouldn't give a bad review based on an out of stock item, but: 1. I've gone back through my email and spam and don't see any emails regarding a substitution. 2. My card was charged for all items on the 3rd, but nothing was shipped. Sloppy service. That night i came here to get some tequila for homemade margaritas. There were various people also stocking up for that nights festivities but the line moved fast. Good prices, but their customer service sucks! We have been coming here for years and each time we don't feel welcome. The guys will rush you, yell for customers to hurry up, and they will not even say hi when you are paying. Each time I ask them if they have certain wine, it's a big deal for them to look it up. Bought a Don Carlos #2 Cigar today. Drove straight home and put it in my well seasoned humidor. Just poured a single malt scotch which I also purchased at the same store and the $14.00 Cigar was falling apart. If you are going to sell high end cigars somebody needs to pay attention to them.
