It's worth a visit if you're nearby, and as a tip you can order a snack bag from the Too Good to Go app which will include a nice variety for a great price. My bag had five items of high quality. The value was high for the price paid. Service was very friendly and helpful. Answered questions thoughtfully and completely. Also mentioned that some special offerings were coming soon, which influenced me to want to come back. The inventory is well-organized and displayed in an efficient manner. It's easy to select from the shelves, and there are treats for all kinds of tastes.

It's pretty cool, but many things can be found at other stores, too, even mainstream ones. When walking in, it was extremely busy with a lot of people. The store is small, and the aisles are not wide, so it's important to know that going in because you will most likely have many people in your way if you look at something for a while. I honestly felt a little rushed because of everyone there and walking up and down aisles in front or in back of me. Because many of the snack bags are in a different language, it's important not to rush when buying anything, especially if you are allergic to any specific ingredient. Many of the snacks do have pictures of what flavor they are, just as snacks in America do. For example, if it had a picture of a watermelon, it's watermelon flavor. If there was a picture of a chili pepper, it's spicy. You get the point. Everything sold has the original packaging as it would in the country of origin. The cool thing about this store is that since different countries sell different flavors of common brands we know in America, they sell them in one place. For example, if you love oreos, they have tons of different flavors that are from different countries that they don't sell here in America. Same with KitKat and different brands of chips like Lay's, Cheetos, etc. I ended up buying the Waffle Cone snack and the matcha Pocky. As you can see in the photos attached, the Waffle Cone snack is a product of Turkey, and the Pocky is a product of Japan. I bought things that I'm sure you can find elsewhere, but they do have cool items that you most likely can't. As I said before, TAKE YOUR TIME when walking around the store because you can walk around the store 6 times and will still miss something. There's so much! Just a tip: The prices didn't seem too bad for what I bought, but not everything seemed to have labels, which stopped me from buying certain items I found. I also found some products that were expired, so just check everything just in case. Not many things I found were expired, but I check dates no matter where I am. The owner is very nice! He was our chekout person, and he told us that they are opening a new location soon in Harwood Heights and that they get new items all the time. If you follow them on IG before purchasing, he also gives 10% off your order (at least he did that when we came).

Wow. I found myself…read morein Arlington Heights, and my buddy suggested this place due to an upcoming trip to Japan in 2027. It's a Japanese market that features an amazing food court (and this is where I spent all my time.) I don't recall the name of the stall I purchased from. But I can tell you it was quick, not expensive and very filling. I had a bowl with beef and noodles; for dessert I hit the matcha dessert stall for some matcha and vanilla ice cream. The whole place meal me feel like I was dining outside the state of Illinois. The service from everyone in the market was very friendly and they even had a sake/soju tasting by the front door (and the vendors allowed you try was much as you wanted.) I highly recommend this spot

Not only is there a food court of different Japanese restaurants to try, there is also a grocery store, bakery, bookstore, and stores that sell ice cream, traditional desserts, as well as crepes and boba tea! My family and I visit here often every year and we like to try the different foods and desserts and then check out the bookstore and grocery store afterwards. My favorite foods so far have been the beef udon soup with a soft boiled egg, shrimp and vegetable tempura, miso soup, and Japanese curry with rice, beef, and vegetables (carrots and potatoes). My son always gets the chicken and beef on a stick and my daughter usually gets a garlic pork dish with white rice but I forget what this dish is called. My husband also enjoys the beef udon soup like I do. I swear that whenever my food is finished, I am legit sad! The crepes are good, there is a variety of boba teas to try, and the ice creams are delicious! Lychee has been my favorite so far but I have yet to try the matcha, red bean, among others! You can get a small sample of different ice cream flavors too, which is nice! I sampled the red bean flavor so that will be my go-to next time! At the grocery store, I love buying Happy Turn snacks which are like a sweet and salty crunchy cracker (maybe it is made of rice?) that are individually wrapped and mochi from the fridge area. Finally, I usually like to buy mochi from the store right next to the bookstore. The mochi from this location is the best! I usually buy multiple flavors to take home and eat at a later time! You must try these! My kids love checking out the bookstore and they usually pick something out for me to buy for them - whether it is a book, keychain, etc. There are magazines, anime figurines, soft plushy toys, pens, and stationary, etc. It is interesting to browse through the things they have there! You cannot bring food or drinks inside but they do have a shelf at the entrance where you can place your drink there if you like. The first time visiting here, the majority of the customers were Asians and as the years have passed, there is now more of an influx of non-Asians who simply love the food and appreciate the culture, which I think is neat! The first time I visited here was with my college roommate who was from Japan and she recommended this place back in 2009 perhaps? I have been visiting ever since with my family. We travel more than an hour from Wisconsin to come here but it is 100% worth the drive! Also, the cashiers and workers there are quick, efficient, and friendly. I have even been able to practice a few of the Japanese phrases I have learned with a couple of the cashiers too (I asked if they spoke Japanese first)! Overall, Mitsuwa is my happy place! Great food, interesting finds, different culture, and everyone there looks excited to be there. This is as close to visiting Japan as I can get until I keep learning more Japanese and save up enough money to go visit Japan someday! This is my dream! In the meantime, we will keep visiting Mitsuwa!

After reviewing Google, we found out they have sashimi platter deals Wednesdays and Fridays for just $30. Given that sushi prices in Chicago are at a premium, we opted to go for this deal and make our own sushi at home. It was awesome: salmon, tuna, and around three other types of fish served on top of julienned radish. They gave pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce as well but only one of each. (I would pick up more in store, along with nori and rice vinegar if you want to make rolls). I imagine using this fish for a poke bowl would be fantastic. The platters are a first come first serve item, so be aware of this should you want to get it like we did. We honestly didn't have any issues purchasing on a Friday.

The tiny store is packed, but the produce and seafood are as fresh as they can be. We stopped by the snack corner in the back for a quick lunch on our way to the airport. For only $12 I got a massive bowl of sullongtang packed with cuts of beef that never seemed to end. At its price point I was expecting to get a bowl of just broth, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was packed with protein. The side dishes were crunchy and tasty. Even though I was devouring my food, I ended up not being able to finish the mountain of rice they gave me. I highly recommend coming to do your shopping on an empty stomach so you can fill up on a delicious and affordable meal in the back first! Even though we were very full, we still wanted to try the mandu stand in the front of the store. We picked up some steamed pork buns and red bean buns on our way out. The pork buns had a milder/lighter seasoning so they would go really well with a spicy or salty sauce. I liked how the red bean buns were not too sweet. Both buns were hefty and could be a meal on their own.

I prefer going here for the fresh cuts of various sushi fish and other seafood as they import from way more places than other Japanese grocery stores and at fair prices. The snack selection here is also unique and they have a great frozen food selection. The food court is on my list for next time as I hear it's also incredibly fresh and the staff are really knowledgable about the sushi and other menu items they serve and it's always busy on the weekends from what I used to see. If you're looking for quick eats while doing some Asian grocery shopping, it's definitely worth checking out. One thing I really like is that finding a table isn't difficult. They have a separate dining hall with plenty of long tables and seating, plus a free-refill miso soup station and a water station for convenience. Pricing here is noticeably lower compared to Hmart. The udon noodle soup is a family favorite, especially for our kids and moms. At Hmart, a bowl of this would run about $15-16 but here for $12.50, you get a generous bowl plus a side like two egg rolls or gyoza, and a small miso soup bowl with seaweed and tofu (you can refill the miso soup at the station). If you skip the side, you save about $1. The Godzilla roll is also a great deal--eight large pieces for about $14. My oldest loved it and was completely full from the sushi. They also offer poke bowls and chicken teriyaki rice plates, which my husband ordered during our visit. My only gripe is that many of the dishes tend to be on the salty side--they could definitely tone that down. Our udon broth tasted good, but we ended up adding some water to dilute it. They also offer discounted cooked hot and cold items--sometimes 30% to 50% off--after the dinner rush (probably after 7 PM). I picked up a large container kimchi pork soup to go for under $5 but it was also quite salty so I took most of it home, added more water and it was perfect as leftovers next day. Ordering is simple: you select your items and pay at a kiosk, enter your buzzer number, and it will vibrate when your food is ready for pickup at the counter. Eating inside a grocery store has its perks--you can grab extra snacks or drinks to customize your meal, and then browse the store afterward. Our moms and kids always enjoy coming here with us--it's definitely more fun for them than a typical grocery run. Overall, prices are reasonable and they run good deals. It's smaller than H Mart, so there are fewer options, but if you prefer a less crowded and more relaxed environment, you might actually like Tensuke better.

It was only AFTER that I found out that they have another location in Uptown, a mile from my house. Apparently they've been in the shopping center across from the Broadway post office for about four years now, but I never had a clue. I liked this location more not just because of the convenience factor of being in my neighborhood, but also because it's a lot more comfortable to shop. The aisles were much larger so you weren't squeezing by folks when trying to see all the goodies. The produce and fish/meat sections also seem much larger. So overall the store has a bigger footprint than the one in Chinatown. They also had merchandise at this store that I didn't see at the other, such as woks, bowls, and other such items. Parking is so-so. The parking lot itself isn't necessarily small, but there's a lot of businesses that share this lot and some of the spots are marked specifically for those businesses. For instance, the medical office here has about 10 spaces that are for their patients only. But given the location it's within a few blocks of the Wilson station, the Argyle station, and (when renovation is complete) the Lawrence station, as well as the bus lines, so there's lots of options for getting here if driving isn't your choice.
