There's a little snack corner food stall towards the back of joong boo market!! For the price, can't beat it. $13 for the tofu soup, rice and some side dishes!! The soup is piping hot. The only issue is that the bowl has a strong dish soap/ dishwasher soap smell to it. Very limited seatings, so I'd take it to go if you don't want to wait around for someone to leave or potentially sharing table. Other than that, super affordable Korean food!! The food comes out pretty quick, and it does get packed especially during the weekend!

Great Korean food with decent prices. I had Ramen, fried chicken, kimchi and pork dumplings, and no.21 (forget the name) with my friend. All are so delicious. Will go back again!!

This is a great market to buy all sort of Asian groceries. There are lots of options in this store ranging from fruits to noodles to household bowls etc. The staff here are not as friendly though. We usually stop by one of the Asian market on our way home from Chicago to bring back home.

During our recent visit to Chicago we came here for lunch and shopping. Both of us were very happy with our delicious meals, rib soup and spicy fish egg soup. The rib soup had four pieces of meaty ribs and the spicy fish egg soup had plenty of fish eggs. Their food is always consistently delicious.

I have been shopping at Joong Boo Market for years. They have a large variety of produce and meat/seafood. However, I recently have been stopping by for the affordable prepped food and the kimchi selection. Their mandoos, onigiri, or Kimbap are perfect for a small lunch! There is also a snack corner in the store! When I'm lucky enough to find an open table, I love dining in for some authentic comforting Korean food. Their savory Yukgaejung, a savory beef stew, is my go-to. This entree also comes with several side dishes!

A very solid, well-stocked, and reasonably priced grocery store for Korean and miscellaneous Asian staples. It also has 2 "snack corners" inside and outside the building (inside one is for traditional Korean dishes; outside one is for dumplings and giant mandoos). The dumpling/mandoo stand stopped selling dumplings by the time I got there around 6:30pm, so I'll try to get there earlier in the future to try those. Instead, I got the kimchi mandoo, which is huge and contained pork and kimchi pieces. The mandoo exterior was soft and plushy, and the interior was spicy from the kimchi but otherwise pretty bland in flavor and texture. From the inside snack corner, I got a takeout order of Bulgogi, which came with rice and small side dishes of kimchi and japchae. This was pretty good-- the bulgogi was a little overcooked but overall flavorful and delicious. The japchae had good flavor and texture as well, and paired well with everything. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Ambience: N/A Service: N/A Overall Value: 4.5/5

!!! CHEAPER THAN HMART !!! It's the same type of Korean food and decent quality, just cheaper. This place is a must for nearby residents. Their restaurant inside has great food with very generous portions. I recommend trying any of their menu items! I'll definitely be back for their bulk frozen dumplings, rice cakes, and vegan onigiri. - AT

Very unassuming, considering it's just your good ol' neighborhood butcher shop / market by day. Off the bat you can tell they carry clean, wholesome products. I'll have to return to order from their regular cafe next time I'm in town. The event however, wow very well done and the menu was stacked. Their sweet staff kept bringing out family-style dishes and I didn't have a single bite that wasn't delicious. From the butcher's steak to the mussels and everything in between. I'm currently on vacation in chicago and was exploring the Chicago French Market when I came across a big sign that said something about pastrami. It was a still a while before Clinton Street Smoked Meats opened, but the guy (I'm sad I never asked his name) was super helpful and just told me that the meat was already done and just to come back in a few minutes. So I did. I ordered a their half pastrami sandwich on rye with the potato salad. Oh my ever loving goodness! This was so good I actually started tearing up at the table. Since I got the first slice, they asked me if I wanted a fatty cut or lean cut of meat (I'm not sure if they ask everyone, so I just added this tidbit of information). I got a fatty cut of meat and added Dijon mustard. This meat was so soft and moist that it really didn't need anything else. It held together so well. The potato salad, I'm sure was made with some addictive substances because, holy cannoli, was this an amazing side to have. It stands up on its own but couple with the sandwich, was mind blowing. In the ingredients list, they add bits of the pastrami into the potato salad which was an amazing touch. I will absolutely need to come here again each time I'm in Chicago. The only flaw I have for the place was that we waited nearly 40 minutes even though we put our name and phone number down in the front.
