I took my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado to Luke Wester Automotive to have my transmission replaced. The customer service was fantastic. I arrived just a few minutes before closing time, but the mechanics took time to look at my truck and provide me an estimate for the repair. I left my truck at the shop overnight, and one of the employees kindly gave me a ride back to my house. I have a friend who is a GM parts dealer, and Luke Wester Automotive allowed me to purchase the transmission on my own, and they only charged me for the labor to install it. read more

They gave me a time frame, and it was accurate. They talked to me like I was a human being that had a fully functioning brain. I appreciate these from a mechanic. Good alternative to getting your car fixed at a dealership. Very professional and courteous staff. Seem to always get the problems fixed right and on time. Of the four or five times I have used them for various cars only had a few minor problems (car not ready when they called and said it was) nothing major. Not only do they keep my little honda fit running good but they also keep all of our AirOne work trucks running smooth which says a lot because we don't own a vehicle under 130,000 miles. Last week I went into the shop because I thought the driver's side bearing was going out. My car was making a noise you would only hear in horror movies but after they inspected my vehicle they found that a rock was lodged up in the break pad so nothing needed to be fixed. I've been a fan of Luke Wester Automotive for a number of years now. Just 3-4 months ago, I was at a local quick lube getting an oil change, and gave a girl their card I happened to have in my wallet. If a local asked me for an auto repair recommendation, LWA was always the first out of my mouth... until Friday. I brought my Jeep Wrangler in first thing in the morning because I had the notorious "death wobble". Ordinarily, a simple balance and rotation of the tires would fix it, but for only 6 or so months until it came back. I was researching a more permanent fix online and came across multiple, as in- well over 15-20, Jeep forums online that stated a manufacturers error of putting bolts in the trackbar that were slightly too small for the fittings, and to simply replace them with a slightly larger bolt. Seemed simple enough and shouldn't take a bunch of time/money. So I figured, lets start there. I also read a lot of recommendations for a steering stabilizer, which I had spoken with Luke about on my last visit and agreed to, I just hadn't gotten back into the shop yet. All that being said, I requested the shop to give me 2 very specific quotes: the bolt change and the stabilizer. Because I had dropped my Jeep off before they opened, I had a young woman call me around 9am. I informed her of what I wanted done and told her I was teaching and I would not be able to answer a phone call until after 3pm. She asked if I could reply to texting and I said yes. Around 1:30, I received a text from her with an estimate detailing many line items that I had not requested, of which exceeded a little over $1400. Things detailing an oil leak (which I've known about for some time but putting high mileage oil in mostly remedies), and complete ball joint replacement (which they decided to self diagnose my wobble issue themselves and recommended, that alone would cost about $800), all the way down to a $45 air filter. I texted her back in shock, and told her I wasn't in the position to pay that kind of money at this point and asked her to send me back a quote with what I had requested. She then sent me back another quote of the ball joints, the stabilizer, and the bolts. I was getting pretty irritated. Finally, I texted her back and requested them to just do a simple balance and rotate of my tires, because that has ALWAYS fixed my problem (and for the record, it did). She texted me back they could do that and it would cost me $48+ tax... it's $40 at Discount tire, btw. I agreed to the price and told her to call me when they were done. She called me around 4pm to tell me they were just finishing and putting the tires back on and I could get my Jeep. I asked her if Robert was working. Robert was always the person I had spoken to before, and was always the first smiling face you saw when you entered the shop. I was surprised when this girl had called me first thing in the morning because it was always Robert that I had spoken with in the past. He had a wonderful demeanor and was a joy to talk to, as well as informative about mechanical stuff. She informed me that Robert was no longer with the company. I went to go pick the Jeep up around 5pm and it seemed they were closed but stayed until I got there, which I appreciated. I went in and a young girl named Alex was standing at the desk and Luke was at his desk. I was still a little furious about the back and forth correspondence from earlier in the day and I felt it was my place to say something. I let her know that I would have appreciated it had I received an estimate on the job I had requested and not a $1400 estimate on a laundry list of items. Instead of replying with something simple like, "I apologize for any confusion, but we added those on as future recommendations", she raised her voice at me and said, "well those things are whats wrong with your car!" Luke was almost defending her attitude, "if I want to fix the wobble, then I NEED to replace the ball joints." I then informed them that I had requested two very specific things, and by adding a list of other things, the dollar amount not only scares the customer, but the list makes the shop look greedy and dishonest. From about the time I walked in and began to speak, Alex did nothing but roll her eyes at me. I then requested for my bill so I could leave because "I was over looking at her rolling her eyes at me." In addition, when I got out to my car, the things that had been in the glove box, including my owners manual were sitting in the seat and not back in the glove box where they were found, and my gas light was on- it was on 1/4 when I brought it in. Sloppy and unprofessional. I'm sad to see a professional like Robert leave this company. I think his addition to their staff is necessary. They may have knowledgeable mechanics, but if they can't effectively communicate, their mechanics won't be doing much work. In the meantime, I've found Robert's new shop and I'll be taking my Jeep there. read more

Luke Wester and his team do a great job. I've been taking my vehicles to Luke since I was in college in '98. He is fair, honest, trustworthy, and dependable. They can do warranty work and other service work as well. I highly recommend trying them out. I've referred several family members and friends over the years. Last time I was at Luke Westers, they left the rod that holds the hood up on the battery, this caused my car to die on me 2+ hours from home resulting in a $400 bill for towing and all repairs. When I called to inform them about their mistake I was simply told "Thanks, we will let them know" and rushed off the phone. I had been going there for nearly two years and was completely shocked by their total lack of concern over committing such a simple and careless mistake. Will not be returning. read more

The staff at Luke Wester automotive, and Luke himself, were very professional and personable during my repair. I was on vacation from Fort Worth when I has an alternator that needed replacing. They helped recover my vacation time with a speedy repair, and a courtesy drop-off to join the rest of my family. They called me to let me know my repair was complete and that they would be ready for me when I came to pick it up. This was a great experience. My best friend took her car here to get it worked on and not only did they over charge her, but they messed it up even more - they also damaged the dashboard and didn't even tell her! They are blaming these new problems that she is experiencing on her high mileage...110K miles on a '09 is not the problem. Not once did she ever speak to any mechanic and all communication had to go through the receptionist who was about as helpful as a as a grave robber in a crematorium - DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

the light in my explorer is on for low tire pressure. I put air in the tires at a local gas station but the light is still on. I came to this business in hopes of having a professional take a look at my tires. Nope, the 3 guys at the counter told me I needed to drive around longer for the system to reset and then proceeded to help the guy who walked in behind me. I feel like the professional thing to do would've been to at least check the tire pressure on the vehicle of a potential paying customer! read more

I was in my first car crash at the beginning of fall semester and had no idea what to do. I had my car towed to Luke's and talked to them on the phone for about a week as they kept me updated on prices and work that needed to be done. I would look elsewhere for good automotive help.... For starters, I like Luke. He seems to be a caring person, but what happened to me is appalling. I brought my old honda civic in because it was over heating. They looked at it, assessed that I needed a new radiator so I went with it. Not even a week later, I was stranded on 1604 with a car overheating and had to pull over almost being hit numerous times. I couldn't believe that after all we had done, I was still on the side of the road. I got it back to them and they looked again. Hoses had come off and there was a thermostat that they hadn't put in when they did a new radiator. So I was charged more! Not even a week later, it overheats again! i take it back and now they do a test and say that there is a small leak in the "Head"...this after they charged me over $1100!!!!! There was no empathy, no discussion of making it right, NOTHING!!!!! They could have performed this test at the beginning, but they didn't...they wanted to bleed me and then hit me with another huge charge. I had also taken it in because it was stuttering, guess what? It started doing it again!!!!!! This was all part of the over $1100 charges that didn't fix a thing!!!! Scott is a crook and doesn't give 2 bits about anything, he just kept charging away. I am so disappointed in this, but I think after being screwed over 3 times by themin the last 2 years, I have to give up the fact that I like Luke and realize they don't care about anything accept stealing my money. I had a very bad experience with Mr. Wester after having been a loyal customer for a number of years. My car was badly flooded during the Oct. 2015 flood, having had great customer service perviously, I asked to have my car taken to his shop. After several weeks I was informed that my car was ready, when I got it back, the new carpet was only partially installed. And no detail had been done to either the interior, or the mechanics. There was flood debris everywhere. When I brought my car back, Mr. Wester denied that he was paid for a detail, and said they would take care of it and the carpet anyway. That evening I picked up my car, the carpet was installed, but there had still been no detailing and my driver's side seatbelt had been disconnected. When I walked back in to inform them of the mistake with the seatbelt, Mr. Wester was incredulous and did not believe me. Nevertheless they fixed it, but he again informed me that he was not paid for a detailing. The next day I called my insurance agent and asked for an itemized reciept of what exactly Mr. Wester was paid for, the very first item was a detailing. At this point a rust stain had aslo appeared on the new carpet, it had seeped up from water in the floorboards which had not been cleaned before the installation of the new carpet. So with the reciept in hand I drove back to the shop showed Mr. Wester that he was in fact paid for a detailing and asked him to come look at my car. I pointed out the dried out caked on mud in my interior, and the fresh rust stain and asked what he would do about it. He said he would go ahead and get it detailed, but in regard to the stain, he said that I must have dripped something onto it. That there was no way it was seepage, that the car was bone dry when they installed the carpet. I asked how could he be certain when they did not detail it before installing the carpet. He dismissed my concern and again accused me of dripping something onto the floorboard. But he did begrudgingly agree to have my car detailed at my earliest convenience and I made an appointment for the following Monday morning. When I arrived for the scheduled appointment Mr. Wester was openly annoyed by my presence, and hemmed and hawed about having to call in the detail guy, and that he wasn't sure if he was even available. I said I'd wait until he could confirm, so he made a big fuss while he placed the call. The guy came, my car got detailed and I was done with Mr. Wester. I'm not sure if this is how he treats all his customers, or just how he treats young women, either way I will never be giving Mr. Wester another cent of my money read more

This place is a ripp off. Their equipment is old and don't work right. They charge too much. And they give people the run around telling them what's wrong with their vehicle and once they fix it there's another problem or they don't fix it right. They don't know what they are doing. They need to hire mechanics that know what they are doing. And the owner doesn't know what's going on. He just says he doesn't know what happen and it must have been a mistake or their part, but does nothing to make it better. But, he does take your money. read more

CON ARTISTS! AVOID THIS PLACE! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! I am an individual with basic knowledgable of vehicle repair, and one day my truck would not start. The symptoms had every indication that there was a bad connection to the battery. I cleaned the battery posts (not thoroughly enough) and changed the terminals to no avail. I figured it probably needed new battery cables, so I had it towed to Luke Wester Automotive (LWA) for this very simple task. The next day I call LWA about the repair. They tell me that my starting motor is bad, and it will be $900 to repair it. I had basic questions: Why do you think its the starter? "-we know its the starter." But how do you know? "-because we checked everything else." I think its something before the starter. Have you checked the cables and terminals? "-yes we checked everything and we know its the starter. I reluctantly authorize a repair that cost close to $900.00 Less than a month later my truck wont start again. Its symptomatic of the same problem. So I go under the hood to loosen and reattach the battery cables to the terminal, it starts right up. At this point I am very confused about the problem, and still suspect the battery cables. I drive it a few more weeks and it eventually wont start again. This time I had daylight and was able to take a closer look at the terminals and there was considerable corrosion on the positive one. I repaired the problem by thoroughly cleaning the connection with elbow grease and a wire brush. The realization of paying a professional auto business close to $900 for a repair that did nothing should make anyone unhappy. Furthermore, I told them what I thought the problem was, they rudely dismissed what I said, and insisted on an exponentially more expensive fix. (They said they checked the terminals, but they obviously they did not.) I called LWA trying to explain what was happening and was met by an argumentative representative who would not let me speak. It was as if he could tell that I was unhappy customer who wanted a refund, and this was his routine for dealing with the situation. I won't detail how rude these people are, because it's unnerving for me to think about. But I must share my experience at Luke Wester with the BBB and my community because it is the right thing to do. No consumer should be unnecessarily charged close to $900 by a professional mechanic, when the problem should be obvious to a professional. read more

My car was making a whining sound and the person at this garage said I needed a new power steering pump. I said OK and it cost around $ 600. I drove the car that same day to Austin and it broke down. It would not start. So I waited and finally got it to start and made my way through heavy traffic to a Honda dealership. So they ran a diagnostic and said it was the alternator and so this cost me another $ 600. But that fixed the car. So now I have a new power steering pump which I did not need and I am out of $600. read more
