The service was great and everyone was so kind and helpful. I got water quickly and my waiter came over quickly. The menu is a bit pricey and small. The chips and guac was good but almost $20 for it is insane. My ambiance was ruined by tech bros making fun of people but that's no fault of the restaurant. Charming eatery in UES. Cozy, classy and the just the right size! I ordered the Chicken Fricassee with Arugula Salad, and mashed potatoes...so delicious and comforting! Luke's is the neighborhood Cheers. As a woman, this is a place I can grab a bite and a drink at the bar and feel totally comfortable. The owner is present and keeps an eye out. The bartenders and servers couldn't be better - very friendly, good folks and make you feel very welcome. The get a few drunks but mostly a nice and convivial crowd. Highly recommended. read more

Came here for a work reunion and to see some old friends. Started out at the bar and moved to a table to eat. There was a bunch of food around that was good - I had the Calamari which was very good and a Chefs salad that was plentiful. My friend next to me had a shrimp/ avocado salad that was extremely plentiful to. Service was good she was always there for any needs. It's not fancy and not large but it does the job. I really like Luke's; I've been in the neighborhood over a decade, but never stopped in. I went in briefly to have drinks and some apps with a friend - and had a wonderful time. Excellent food and service. Very friendly. Tonight I scheduled an order for delivery and received a follow-up call to confirm my delivery time. Stumbled into this bar after an exhausting and wonderful afternoon spent at the Metropolitan Museum of art. My parents and I were just looking for some decent food and a comfortable atmosphere, and received way more than what we had hoped for. Staff was super friendly, all of the food was made with love, drinks were good, prices not over the top, great music, and a very comfortable environment. The Smothered Swiss burger never disappoints- always cooked to perfection, it's juicy, and succulent- Equally as exciting is their classic wedge salad, adorned with generous cuts of salty bacon, CRISP iceberg lettuce and real blue cheese. I have been going to Luke's for many years. The service people are nice, the food is generally pretty good - especially the burgers. But recently I had a very upsetting experience. Some months ago I paid for a dinner for two, and the bill was $135, including the tip. I happened to spot the charge when the credi card bill showed up, and it was $155. I thought it was some simple error. Some time later, when i was back at Luke's, I remembered to pull out that charge and bring it with me. I showed this to the manager. She saw the discrepancy and said she would show it to the owner, who was due to come in. While I was having dinner, the owner came in. I know the manager showed the charge slip and the credit card charge to the owner. He did not come over. He stayed away. When i asked the manager, she confirmed that he had seen it, and she looked uncomfortable. I gave her my name, phone number and email, and simply said "just have him call me." As we left the restaurant, he clearly and deliberately avoided looking at us. This is a lose-lose. The $20 is besides the point. If it was a error, he should have immediately addressed it. That's just ordinary good customer service. But if it was NOT a mistake, well - need I say more. It has now been about two weeks that I was there. I will not go back there, and I will make sure that people I know will hear this story. read more

First time dining here, so I thought I'd play it safe and order a presumably popular dish, one featured on their website's gallery-- shrimp and avocado salad with tarragon dressing. To their credit, the dish 'looked' like their website photo but the something about the salad tasted strange, not obviously off, but not tasting the way one might expect. I chalked it up to the restaurant's odd choice to use an overpowering tarragon dressing instead of a light lemon or citrus dressing on the salad and ate the salad. I shouldn't have. I'll never know if it was the tarragon dressing masking bad shrimp or if the problem lay with other salad components but I had cramps and diarrhea after eating that salad at Luke's. And this salad was the only thing that I had that day that was different from other meals with family. So it seems likely that the problem originated with my salad. read more

I have never written a review before, but after my experience at this place I felt compelled to do so. I was planning on having dinner with my cousins and brother. The waitress came by and asked us what we'd like to drink. My cousins ordered water as they're both under 21. I recently turned 21. I asked for a guinness. The waitress said no and walked away. She didn't even ask for my ID. To be fair, I was wearing a basketball jersey and shorts so I might've looked young. When she came back over I tried ordering a different beer as I figured they might be out of guinness. I also tried handing her my legal state issued ID. She told me that she wasn't gonna serve me and wouldn't give me a reason. My cousin, who is also 21, tried to use his passport. Faking a passport is major federal crime. I asked to speak to the manager and she brought the owner. I t I told the owner that I just wanted to order a beer. He asked me if I had a New York drivers license and I told him no. I tried to hand him my Maryland ID, which is probably the hardest ID to fake, but he wouldn't take it. While I understand it is the bar's right to deny service to people with an out of state drivers license, it seems like an absurd idea in NYC. My cousin tried his State Department issued passport with the owner, but he wouldn't budge. He also came across as extremely condescending. I told the owner that if they wouldn't serve us then we were gonna leave. It wasn't even about the beer, but rather how disrespectful the waitress and the owner were to my party. I got up to leave and the owner said that if we kept acting like we were they were gonna kick us out, even though I was already in the process of leaving. At that moment, one of the bartenders told me that if I didn't shut up he was gonna beat my ass. Then we left. My cousin tried to talk to the owner afterwards. He gave the excuse that his employees have been working extremely hard and were tired. I have tons of respect for waitstaff and restaurant workers in general. I recognize they are extremely hard working and have to deal with difficult people on a daily basis. With that said, there is no excuse for treating us the way they treated us. I will not be going back. If I could give them negative stars I would. read more

Really good energy here. Came here after a recommendation to try the burger. This seems like a neighborhood spot attracting patrons of various age groups. Lots of young professionals crowded the bar and saw groups of families and couples enjoying their meals in the dining section. I got the classic burger medium rare with bacon and avocado - it was very good. And fries were great as well - must've been double fried - crispy just the way I like them. Great burgers!!! Love the 1/2 onion rings 1/2 French fries optEverything here is good. Fish tacos. Chicken fingers (real, not frozen) Meatballs, Quesadilla. Turkey burger is never dry and I love the pesto Mayo. The stir-dry was "eh". I'd pass on that one. When you order takeaway from Luke's, they always package with care, in separate containers etc. Neighborhood place. Filled with locals. Lukes is my favorite neighborhood restaurant and hang out spot. I LOVE the food and service is great. I have to say, the BBQ sandwich and the fish and chips are dishes among legends. Pop in for a great vibe 10/10 recommend. read more

Had a great time and great meal mid afternoon ..I had a chicken blt with garden salad and my Aunt had a chicken breast sand with fries. Been here many times and it never disapoints. Sat outside, as the weather was 73-degrees and perfect. Expect some mid day noise, with street traffic, but normal in the big city..Waiter was a little hard to find for Ice tea refill's and some more silverwear (small gripe), but Ive had worse.
