We were on the Upper East side to visit the Guggenheim and we were looking for a restaurant to have lunch. We walked by the Bocado and decided to try it out! We decided to share a few sandwiches - the Black Angus Burger with fries and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a side salad. I took my first bite of the burger and my eyes opened wide - what an incredible flavor! The first thing you notice is the rich flavor of the angus beef - it's unique! The meat was tender and juicy - it had tomato and lettuce - I added only ketchup. It was one of the most delicious burgers I've had in some time. The French Fries were excellent with a great taste and fry! Next up the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the Ciabatta bun - having fried chicken on such a hard crusted, chewy bread. It wasn't the best choice for this sandwich. My partner and I both felt the chicken was 'hiding' behind the dressings - tomato, thick avocado and chipotle aioli - we opted out of the Applewood smoked bacon, which would have made the chicken more obscure. I opened the sandwich and took out a large piece of chicken to really 'taste it'. It had a great exterior crunch, was tender and juicy. It may have been flattened a little. It was a good sandwich, but if it had been on a brioche roll without the avocado, I believe it would have been more of a true crispy chicken sandwich. The little side salad we had was yummy with a very good balsamic vinaigrette. Overall, Bocado was a delightful lunch - the Black Angus Burger is a must!! I have some pretty hefty dietary restrictions, and our waitress was so polite and accommodating as I asked her detailed questions about various dishes. There was always someone to fill our water or check in on us, and even dirty napkins were removed and replaced. Some of the best service I've ever experienced! As far as my gut issues go, I had no trouble with the dishes I eventually went with: the Burrata flatbread pizza and the Chocolate Salted Caramel Soufflé. Both were absolutely scrumptious. The ambience is classy and soothing, not too loud, even as they got busier later in the evening. Overall a perfect experiene. I will definitely be making Bocado my weekend go-to! read more

Gave this place a few more shots. They currently have a restaurant week menu and my experience really improved. Salads overall were good but can use slightly more dressing. I also really enjoyed the pasta. Drinks were really good. The owner/manager came to check on me as well. Service was attentive and friendly. Nice rustic ambience. This is an attractive space. By the entrance you will see a couple of long tables, a bar and several TV s with sports . The rest of the restaurant has tables with individual lights . This place was very cute on the inside and had a side room that gave you a great view outside. The menu had a lot to offer. The chicken was cooked beautifully, and the scallops were delicious! My favorite thing is the vegetable burger that unlike others has actual corn, lentils and other ingredients visible in it with a distinctive dressing and comes with your choice of a nicely assembled salad or perfectly crisp french fries. Really wanted to give this a better review but just can't. I ordered the Bocado Burger, their signature burger, medium rare with fries. It was less than. First, the temperature was just warm, not hot. And the flavor was blah. Salt, pepper and ketchup did nothing to improve it. So I paid $38 for a burger, fries and iced tea and ate about half the burger. This is at least my 4th time dining here over the years. I won't go back. My friends had a steak and a chicken dish. Lovely neighborhood cafe that I always passed and wanted to go to. Yesterday I ate lunch here. Crab cake and French fries. The crab was tiny and plated with a mound of frisée on top. Chipotle aioli accompanied the cake. The fries were superb. Crisp but not too crisp on the exterior and tender in the middle. Served in a wire rectangular linen lined basket, I ate every piece. What I particularly liked about Bocado Cafe was the service and the space. This cafe has been here for a decade and has a variety of customers. From a senior with her attendant to a couple who were regulars and chatting with the manager. A high top table with South Asians, young men and women. Unfortunately I was not happy with the wait and we ended up waiting at least 45 minutes and they don't have anywhere inside to really wait. No number was taken down either to contact us about our table being ready so we kind of just had to stand around the other tables while they ate which was awkward. It had fresh avocado in it as well. The fries were well seasoned but wish it was crispier, it was more on the soggy side. If you buy an item in Bloomingdales or Macys, and it doesn't fit right, you return it for a full refund. If you buy fettuccini alfredo, as we did, and it doesn't taste right, well you're going to have to eat it. At least that's what the manager said yesterday. Four of us arrived around 5:15 Sunday. There's usually space in the outdoor dining area, which was great for us since we had a dog (which the server got a bowl of water for). The French toast and avocado toasts were by far the highlight of the order. And the iced latte was delicious and came out in such a cute glass! We heard great things about Bocado Cafe and wanted to make a trip to the restaurant for brunch. One thing we loved about this place was how they gave free drinks for brunch! We got orange juice and a mimosa, which were both tasty. I got the organic quinoa/kale and it was better than I expected. I'm not a huge greens person, but this was very delicious, especially with hot sauce. We also got the two eggs any style that was great in terms of portion and taste. We thought it was cute how they served them both in skillets. The service met our expectations where the waiters took our orders at a reasonable time and our food came out relatively quickly too. Ambiance was gorgeous. Wish we were able to sit more in the inside, but the view outside was nice too because of the weather. I am hoping to bring my friends here next week because I loved it so much! By the way, they sell Ithaca Beer, which is near and dear to my heart. If you love them, you should definitely stop by. This lively local restaurant has delicious food, impeccable service, and a nice wine list both by bottle and glass. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm not willing to accept these prices for diner food. Bocado is a cute, little upscale diner, with a wine bar, and a rustic charm consisting of wood paneling, wood tables and windows looking out on Lexington Ave. Definitely a family place, there were four of us. It had everything pointing to it being a good choice, but the food was shockingly mediocre. Eggs Benedict? How do you get that wrong?!! Presentation was nice, service was good, but the eggs had no flavor. Each individual ingredient was flavorless including the hollandaise, and the bacon was the most boring piece of ham my friend had eaten in her life. It left my friend so uninspired she left half of the second Benedict on the plate. You get one alcoholic drink with brunch, or coffee, not both. But just as well, the coffee was bitter, and the orange juice in the mimosa was sour. The French toast was undercooked and soggy. The fresh whipped cream with caramel sauce and the berries and bananas hid the sogginess well. We also had the buttermilk pancakes which had a grainier texture than regular buttermilk pancakes. The scrambled eggs were fine. The side order of sausage was good. With tip it came to $50/person. Not acceptable for mediocre diner food. read more
