Went on the 4th before the parade. They where very busy and honestly they where a little slower then usual but you have to allow for the holliday. Once food came out it was very good and we took alot home with us to have another breakfast again in the mornimg. I was apart of a party of 6 from out of town that can be somewhat rowdy. We went in to the place because we can all eat. We looked up this place and decided to give it a go. We walk in and get greeted by this waitress, Jennifer. She was very outgoing and a fun person to have running the table. She got us hooked up with all of our drinks and cracked a few jokes here and there to keep us on our toes. By the time she got us our drinks and we were all settled in she passed us on to a new server. At first we were all disappointed because we had such a great experience so far with Jennifer and we were only about 10 minutes into dinner. She introduces us to our new serve JR and low and behold - these two are two peas in a pod. They kept us laughing the entire night and kept up on all of our drinks (which is always an important part). They were both outstanding servers, always making sure we had what we needed. By the end of the night we were all completely satisfied and pleased with our service. A few of us come from the restaurant business and are a little particular on our service but, we couldn't have asked for better service before our trip home. My boyfriend and I ended up coming home with 2 meals from leftovers and dessert. Long story short - Jennifer and JR. They are outstanding servers and will make your experience just how you would want it to be. These two feed off the energy of their guests and really know how to make people feel welcome. Two thumbs up, we live about 3 hours away and still can't stop talking about this place. We will definitely be coming back sometime, the drive is worth it. read more

We just had the worst dinner experience. Husband order the ground round dinner the onions and mushrooms were not sauted, then hamburger patty was over cooked and flat. He has had this before which was done different. Onions were cook inside the patty-you should change back to this. I order the prime rib dinner asking for medium but received it rare also had no baked potatoes. The soup was vegetable beef more like a stew with no vegetable. The service was good but very slow. Very disappointed but manager helper JJ was very understanding and comp the whole meal. Lumberjack should stay with their known menu. read more

Was visiting the area and selected this resteraunt while driving by. Everyone in our party of 7 greatly enjoyed the resteraunt. The salad bar was well stocked with cold, crisp, and fresh veggies. The quantity and quality of our main dishes were great, but had a little more pepper than some in the party liked. The service was absolutely FANTASTIC! Our glasses were always topped off. We were given the mountain hospitality the Nevada City / Grass Valley area is known for. Never have I been more sincerely welcomed in a resteraunt than here. Even the other customers were friendly and kind. Its a real shame I don't live closer. The owners went through considerable effort and expence in creating a lumberjack atmosphere, from the wooden chairs and large metal mugs to the lumberjack videos on flat screen TVs. read more

The atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly. I eaten at all three times of the day and the food has been very good every time. For the price their prime rib is the best I have ever had. I was served a piece of carrot cake that was so big, after I ate as much as I could it was still too big to fit in a to go box. read more

I'm very disappointed. I went there on my birthday, ordered a prime rib well done. It came back very bloody 4 times. So I ordered a different steak. The cook was so mad that he pounded this stea to 1/4 inch thickness. They had to deep fry the baked potato to get all of the salt off. The best food part of the meal was the salad bar. This was an outstanding restaurant. We were on our way to a different place with a high rating and when we passed Lumberjack's we just decided to pull in and give it a try. I'm sooooo glad we did. We were there for breakfast and the food was excellent. We had fantastic service and the giant cups of coffee came quickly and were re-filled frequently. One person in our party ordered a biscuit on the side and it was the most enormous, beautiful, perfectly cooked biscuit I have ever seen. The meat in the omelet was very flavorful and another person in our party raved about the sausage patties. Our server was Keaton and he was outstanding. One thing our party liked was the choice of hashbrowns or country potatoes. We had fans of both. The ESPN Lumberjack games playing on the big screen was a nice touch. If we are near Grass Valley we will be at Lumberjack's for sure. read more

I order breakfast to go on a regular basis from Lumberjacks. They always have the food ready within 15 minutes and ready to go when I arrive. I am a huge fan of their eggs benedict. The ham they use has no fat and is easy to cut, the holinday sauce is creamy and delicious, and the english muffin is never burnt. I've tried eggs benedict around town and Lumberjacks is the most delicious and least expensive. read more

Decor was interesting, the basil tomato soup was fine. My small prime rib and baked potato were horrible. The first baked potato was cold. Looked good with all that stuff on it, but cold. The second one brought was luke warm - wouldn't even melt the butter. I told the waitress I wanted a hot piece of prime rib so if medium is what it took, then medium would be fine. Nope. It was luke warm too. No flavor, and their serrated blade steak knife couldn't get through the gristle, it took my pocketknife to get bite sized pieces. Pretty bad meal when the bread was the hottest thing on the plate. Bought some Pepsi and cookies at the grocery store next store - finally something great!! One star for the basil tomato soup, the second star for the waitress. I'll make it simple - don't eat here. read more

The service is terrible and the food was just ok. We went there for lunch about 1pm on a Saturday. The were not busy at all. We were there for an hour and it only took us about 10-15 mins to eat. Our waitress came to our table twice. Once to take our order and once to bring the check. I ordered a side of ranch which she wrote down, someone else brought our food and I asked for my side. 10 minutes later I got my side! The food was just so so. Not bad but not great. Good folks, good food, and good prices. The service is good, and the portions can be a bit too large for those that are not too hungry. If in doubt about the size of the portion, ask the waitperson. Jacob has amazing customer service skills! Very impressed. He is the reason for 2 of the 3 stars. The additional star is for the skillet that my husband ordered. The skillet was made to perfection and was warm all the way through. Negative was I ordered a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich on sourdough. When my food was brought to the table, my sandwich only had 1/4 of a piece of cheese on it and the cheese was not melted. It was sent back to the kitchen for cheese. When the sandwich came back, it had cheese but it wasn't melted again. The turkey was ice cold. Our server explained that the cook was new and that he should have grilled the turkey on the grill prior to putting it on the sandwich. He said we could send it back again if we wanted to. I declined the offer. I accepted the sandwich as and dealt with it. There was no compensation or discount given. We were charged full price for a cold grilled cheese....Epic Fail Lumberjack's. Lumberjacks Grass Valley is wonderful. We had a Mother's Day lunch with 20 of us. First off they were very accommodating. I did warn them ahead of time that we were coming. Everything was set up when we got there. Billie our waitress was outstanding. Drink orders quickly and then taking our orders with separate checks. She was friendly and professional. The food was great! Plentiful and hot. Three of the guys in our party had the 1lb burger. Humongous and they all said it was an excellent burger. Only one of them finished it though... it was huge! We were never rushed and we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you to the cooks, the manager and especially to Billie. We will be back! By the way the LumberJill salad is delicious. So I went to Lumberjacks to have prime rib on a Wednesday and they now only serve that on the weekend. So I ordered a new york steak medium rare. What I got was a piece of shoe leather well done. What was suppose to be a steak actually looked like the end of a piece of tri-tip and taskted like it. Yuck!!!! The service was okay. When I asked for the prime rib the waitress told me they stopped serving it during the week and commented that she wished they still served it DAH!! I then commented that it was the only thing on the menu I liked. The big john burger isn't bad either. However for a restaurant that promotes itself as a quasi place to get ribs, steaks and burgers etc.. the quality of their meat is low grade. Lyons did a better job as a diner. Lumberjacks I can see is a Sysco Systems customer. I can hear the truck backing up with the cheap meat as I write this. read more

I ate at a Lumberjacks a little over a year ago having breakfast. This time around I decided to take my family to dinner. I like big proportions believe me I hike and adventure all day long so its nice to have a big hot meal at the end of a hard earned day. For dinner I had their pot roast it was good but man for $14 dollars they should have given me more it just was not simply enough. They also hardly gave me and veggies its as if they run out gave me the bottom of the barrel. I often do allot of good eats on my journeys then I review them and feel that there are more affordable places whom might give you a bit more. But overall the food was really good we had a big sampler plate of appetizers, homemade loafs of hot bread and the clam chowder was dynamite. But it seemed like my family including my plate just lacked meat. On average most plates will cost you around 15 dollars which technically you could eat almost at a fancy restaurant elsewhere for that amount just something to keep in mind. The food here is like home cooking so they get five stars in that department. I do recommend eating here but I also want others to know what to expect if you do. My bill came out to 70 dollars for my son, girlfriend and me so meh! I also had three different food servers I did order hot coffee it seemed like nobody would ever bring me any cream or sugar. As important as the food is for me anywhere so is the hot coffee after hiking around all day in the mountains! I would have ordered pie but six dollars a slice come on I could go to the store almost pie an entire pie for that much come on now! I live up by Carson Tahoe region most I pay for any pie no matter how big or small it is is four so yeah prices here are a bit spendy for food you really could get just about anywhere! read more

I had a BLT, the bacon was burnt in spots and not cooked enough in others. Stopped by for an evening meal when we got snowed in when Highway 20 was closed a few weeks ago. All 3 of us really liked the different meals we got and the service was good too. We liked it enough to go out of our way (an hour and a half drive one way) to meet up with others on a Saturday night. We had a group of about a dozen people. Our waiter was excellent; well above average! Each of us enjoyed our food; and most of us ordered something different. No problem on getting refills on tea, soft drinks, water, and coffee. We had school age kids, young adults, older adults, and senior citizens. Nothing but compliments from each individual in our group. By the way, Anthony was our waiter. Very attentive and prompt with our orders, and no mistakes made. Other helpful employees assisted also. read more
