The heat lamps were on in the enclosed area out front and they have cushions for the wrought iron chains and a shelf of blankets for customers to use. Complimentary Chilean bread rolls brought to the table right away with garlic herb butter, salsa verde sauce (chimicuri like) so good,made the old fashioned way with pork fat. Calamari Frito, Cajun seasoning,light and crunchy with a house made tarter sauce (excellent server brought us an additional tarter) Crab stuffed chili Relleno was a creative version of this meal I've eaten dozens of times,feta and a sweet sauce with the rock crab was delicious. Panqueque especial ,chorizo had a little kick but was cooled off by the pineapple and sweetness of the crepe. All baked together with rice,cheese,guac,veggie's on the side,this was a big meal that was packed with a savory mix of flavors,my favorite thing I sampled. Great salsas. For example, the green one that came with the buns was probably the single best part of the meal and will inspire us to return. I'll reserve judgment on the vegetarian entre options until we have tried more. First try was a bit bland even with ordering extra hot peppers. The vegetarian taco is a nice option, but it really tastes like a tofu scramble in a tortilla. In other words, it is great that there is a vegetarian taco option. Wow! What a neat little restaurant! Diego's serves South American cuisine in an interesting little building in grass valley. The patio dining area is surrounded by flowers and offers plenty of shade. The interior is filled with interesting paintings and knick knacks. In the night I visited, there was live music as well. Our server was friendly and didn't bat an eye when I butchered the pronunciation of "panqueque". Speaking of panqueque, I tried the Especial which was amazing. Salad was wilted lettuce. No grilled veggies as it stated.Had to ask for them. The potato corn soup of the night was pathetic. Watered down corn with NO potatoes. Garlic fries were not even edible. Tasted like old oil. Limp and soggy. Portabello sandwich swimming in sauce which made the 2 little slices of mushrooms very messy . $9 glass of wine not even in a wine glass. It was suggested to try this restaurant for my birthday. We arrived to a beautifully decorated restaurant with lovely lights outside. Initially, we were slightly perplexed about the entrance, but discovered that access was through the patio leading to the main entrance. When we walked in, we saw a lurch type statue and a festive Halloween decorations. I absolutely loved that aspect of the decor. The food options were quite unique and interesting, which we enjoy. My husband decided to order the flat iron steak with vegetables and sweet potato fries. I chose to have steak nachos with guacamole and salsa served separately. We arrived at the establishment within an hour of its closing time, and although we tried to order quickly so as not to inconvenience the staff, I must admit that the lively ambiance did not seem to be fully reflected in their demeanor. This was a new thing for me to try I'm used to Mexican flavors.. I tried the pupusas and they were good I'm used to the more common Salvadoran style, but still tasty, I tried one of each. The bean and cheese had more flavor to me than the chicken and cheese.. maybe due to not seeing any chicken in the bites I had. The place was pretty busy and has a nice dining area outside. We also had the BBQ banana split, I didn't get the opportunity to take a picture of it before the hubby started in on it. We were really looking forward to trying Diego's in Grass Valley, but sadly it was a miss for us. The margaritas tasted like they came straight from a premix, and the tortillas for the tacos weren't even warmed up. My husband summed it up best: "It's good... like a TV dinner." That said, the servers were absolutely awesome -- working their booties off and keeping everything moving with a smile. And the restaurant itself is super cute; the décor is totally on point. We moved to Grass Valley a month ago, and have had the good fortune to eat at a few amazing local spots. We found another one tonite! The bldg is unasuming, but large, w/ little if any discernable parking. Once inside, you're in a charming, if cold in winter patio, one with tons of charm and character. The main entry is unassuming, though the staff are kind and inviting. The food was farm to table and absolutely amazing! The wine list is nice, and the diners come in droves, creating a lively and warm environment. A new favorite I hope to cherish over the coming years~ read more

As a Celiac, It's so great to have a local restaurant that educates its employees on gluten and cross contamination/safety. The servers are always so kind and accommodating, and they work hard to provide great service. I love getting the taco meal here, especially with their veggies! They make such tasty veggies. Panqueque is amazing! I'm not a huge fan of burrito and don't like chorizo that much either so I didn't think I'd like the Panqueque with grilled pineapple and chorizo. I decided to order it anyway since it's the most popular. BOY IT WAS DELICIOUS. I will definitely be back for that. Fish and shrimp tacos are good but not as special. Coconut flan was okay. We've lived in Grass Valley for years and can't believe we've only just rediscovered Diego's! My husband ordered the fajitas, I had the Ensalada de Pescado, and we shared the chips with salsa and guacamole. Everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful--the guacamole tasted like it was made seconds before it got to our table. Our server, Quinn, was fantastic--so warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. She made the whole experience even better. The portions were generous, the ingredients top quality, and the flavors were spot on. It honestly felt like a homemade meal with a gourmet touch. We usually love Diego's however this last visit left us feeling disappointed. Not because of the food as we were very excited to try both specials, the coconut crusted mahi and the pork. The issue was that we had 5:30 reservations and got seated at 6pm. We had a show to attend to at 6:45. We waiter up until 6:30 and just decided to leave. During our mini-getaway this week, we stopped in for dinner at this adorable little place called Diego's in Grass Valley, CA. It is a Chilean inspired South American restaurant & tends to purchase organic ingredients from local farmers when possible! It took a minute to get seated, though there were plenty of empty tables & staff running around. But once we were seated, they quickly showed us how many options can be made vegan or vegetarian on the menu, which was a huge help. They also offer little rolls that look like extremely soft, fluffy dough, however we were told they are cooked in pork fat so we declined. Thankfully one of the owners told us this first, as our waitress didn't think to ask & simply put the rolls on our table... I would have been extremely upset had I not known & went in for a bite! The dining room is a bit spread out but overall, a smaller restaurant, which is why they recommend reservations during their busier hours. You can also see into the kitchen, which always make the dining experience more fun in my opinion. For our appetizer, we couldn't decide between a few options, so we went with the : One black bean pupusa with tomatillo sauce, one stuffed jalapeño & one cheese empanadita. All served with fresh guacamole & pico de gallo. The flavors were beyond incredible, but the pupusa & stuffed jalapeño were definitely my favorites. For our main courses, I ordered the : chimichurri sauce to complement skewered citrus-marinated tofu, grilled to order. It also came with barbequed grilled veggies & Chilean rice & black beans. I don't how they seasoned & marinated the tofu so well but it was to die for! I'm determined to learn their secret! My husband ordered the : A savory crepe with a creamy cheese sauce & seasoned grilled veggies. Baked with sweet red pepper sauce, sprinkled with cheese & topped with fresh guacamole. For his protein, he chose the citrus-marinated tofu as well. He said it was delicious, had scrumptious flavor, & was definitely a huge portion of food! We also didn't realize it was Happy Hour, so we got $1 off sangria & $2 off our appetizer! I tried their Paloma & it was so tasty, but also recommend their sangria & their wine list! read more
