Ambiance is rustic as you are in an old building near downtown but is roomy and clean with lots of seating. Food and drinks: Coffee and iced tea: both good and refills kept coming. Lobster Benedict- 3.5/5. Eggs were overcooked to medium. The hollandaise was spicy but good. Lobster was a little overwhelmed by the sauce and the potatoes needed more crisp and seasoning. Biscuit and sausage gravy with a medium egg- 3.5/5. The egg was perfectly over medium. The biscuit was light and fluffy. The gravy was good but it was ham gravy ...not sausage (just FYI). We had been here before in December and I forgot to post a review. When we came that time, we came for breakfast and we enjoyed it, so we decided to stop in for lunch. Unfortunately, none of our food was very good this time. My husband got the Jamaican jerk burrito and it was too spicy, not necessarily hot spicy, but overly seasoned with spices. My husband said you couldn't taste anything else aside from all the spices. My lobster melt was very dry. Something of note-- they don't have ranch dressing. What they do have is a creamy garlic feta that was decent. It was very busy and the wait went by quickly, but our food took forever to come out. Our second visit here & the four of us enjoyed our breakfast. Busy place on a Sunday morning and about a 20 minute wait. Started with a Cappuccino & a Mocoa,both were hot, delicious and not overly sweet. I had the full order of Lobster Eggs Benedict. Eggs cooked as ordered, generous amount of lobster, Jalapeno holidase, avocado ,crunchy well seasoned country potatoes, filling rich and satisfying, dusted off the whole thing. Mrs D had the Corn Cakes, substituted chicken sausage for the hot links with eggs over easy. The Corn Cakes were similar to potato Pan cakes, slightly garlicy with a spicy aioli sauce. Visited with my friends November 21st. It is located in downtown Grass Valley ( look for the big two story pink building on the corner). This place is Always busy! I had to see the dentist in a bit so just had an egg and toast. It was good! Waitresses are hustling! My friends stayed longer as I had to get to my appointment and they were being entertained by their two kids ( alittle hyper..lol ). It's a very popular spot with a funky but cool atmosphere. Everyone seemed happy and enjoying their food! Note: they get really busy and you need to sign in when you get there. Bring your patience when waiting for your food! They have a bar seating as well. Came here during my sons wrestling match. The food was good, gave me a healthy option which is always great. The location is small town feel yet i side feels like a chill/relax vibe. One of my favorite spots in GV! Not a typical breakfast menu but that's what I like about it. I've never had a bad experience, if they're busy food may take longer but that's about all. This is a terrific brunch spot as long as you're not in a hurry. There is typically a pretty long wait for a table and it can be quite awhile between ordering and seeing the food on the table. That said, I would recommend it every time, as long as you have time to relax and enjoy. The portions are large and the menu has options, but not so many as to make it a chore to choose. It's a couple of blocks off of the main drag, so parking can be a little easier and then provide an easy stroll to shops. The Benedict's are great, the French toast is pretty epic. Its menu is loaded with some out-of-the-ordinary breakfast specialities that include the two dishes we had, the Blackstone Benedict and Potato Pancakes. The Blackstone Benedict had a jalapeño hollandaise that made this Benedict variant extra special. The potato pancakes were crispy and tasted of garlic and cheese. My oh my were they good. We had coffee from Grass Valley's Caroline Coffee Roasters and an iced coffee with mocha that was a perfect blend of coffee and chocolate. We were tempted to have one of South Pine Cafe's Mimosas. Called in ahead to place a to go order, and they said they can't take orders over the phone, so I drove there and stood by the front desk for ten minutes before I realized I wasn't going to be acknowledged. So I stopped someone at the bar and was told o can't place a to go order at all. Would've been nice to know that before I wasted my time. The service is terrible and the food isn't even worth it. I hope this helps others to not have thier time wasted. Not enough employees or cooks to properly serve the number of patrons that they have crammed into this dump. read more

I've lived in Grass Valley for many years and I often eat at South Pine Cafe. I was amused to read many of the reviews that gave the food glowing accounts but complained about the service and overall gave the restaurant 3 or less stars. The food here is ALWAYS on point. The freshest ingredients, great recipes, and MY GOD the mimosas! Amazing. I've never had bad service here and I love when I get visitors from out of town because this is the number one breakfast/brunch place I take them to. To me this restaurant is the epitome of Grass Valley living. Thanks so much for feeding us and I'll keep coming back again and again! read more

We were looking for a place for lunch in Grass Valley. Checked YELP and found this jewel. About a block off of the Main Street, so we were able to easily find parking. Even though they were busy, they seated us pretty quickly. Got menus and water right away. Very different and eclectic menu. Everything sounded delicious. I had a Brie mushroom, pesto, grilled cheese on sourdough and my husband had their special corn cakes. Everything was just delicious. Really cute cafe. Reminded us of old time cafes. This was recommend from a friend to visit and wow I am so happy they did recommend this. This is a little quaint restaurant in Grass Valley right off the Main Street. Parking is in abundance so don't worry there. Bathrooms are a single bathroom which is great after coffee and breakfast. I sat at the bar and had the pleasure to have Lisa as the bartender and server. Lisa was the kindest best person I've had the pleasure of meeting in a long time. I didn't catch the other bartenders name but she was puréeing mango and strawberry which combined into the best Mango Strawberry Mimosas I've ever had. They also come in a massive glass so they truly don't skimp on the serving! I got the Chorizo Benedict and it was soo good I forgot to take a photo. I ate it and kept eating it and couldn't stop, pretty sure I didn't talk for 5 minutes cause I couldn't stop stuffing my face. This place is highly recommended!! read more

We had a fun night in Nevada City and stopped here on our way home. One big bonus was parking. It was hard parking a large vehicle anywhere in Nevada City in the surrounding areas. The second big bonus was no line out the door like some other breakfast places in the area. Now I don't know why because it's a great spot. We were seated right away and ordered coffee and tea. The coffee could be a bit stronger for liking but it is what is. Keep pouring it and I'm not mad about it. The carnitas eggs Benedict was tasty and I went with the hash browns on the side. The hash browns win for me and it's because they were not extra oily. Crispy on the outside and yummy. The Hollandaise sauce was creamy and perfect. The pancakes and eggs hit the spot and we took a little bacon out to our patiently awaiting pooch and he approved so thumbs up there. It's your regular breakfast spot although there was a bar towards the back with a big screen which is probably nice when there is a game on etc. I'm giving a 5/5 because it's what you expect when looking for a good breakfast. The menu was full of choices. The food is consistent with basic breakfast. The service was friendly and quick. We came because we saw good reviews and wanted to go for a little drive. It's such a cute spot and bigger than I would have thought from seeing the outside!! We are so happy that we came!!! We were quickly seated and provided our drinks. I really enjoyed the coffee. Great flavor! I was between two options and our waitress recommended the Huevos Rancheros and it was delicious! Something like this in the SF area would easily be $20+ so this is such a good deal. The potatoes are well-seasoned, and the jam that comes on the side for the Lobster Scramble is delicious as well. WOW! This was in the top 3 brunch places for me! It was a bit of a wait, but we anticipated that based on other reviews. It was fine, we watched NFL on my phone while waiting. We also ordered mimosas while waiting. They are full sized glasses of mimosas for only $10!!! The staff are very friendly. Kept our water glasses full even though we were drinking mimosas. They have homemade habanero sauce on the tables - it is delicious. My husband and I both ordered a lobster dish. They do not mess around with the lobster! Each dish was FULL of lobster!! They give a side of their own jam with the toast (not sure if it is a house jam or not but it was tasty). They have a lot of coffee drinks, too and a fancy espresso machine! During our mini-getaway to the woods, we stopped in for brunch at this popular little place called South Pine Cafe in Grass Valley, CA. After checking out their menu on Yelp first, I saw they had a bunch of tofu scrambles, or that you could sub a lot of meats for tofu which had me sold! After a bit of a wait, we got our table & immediately ordered mimosas & asked for the guava-lemon juice which was soo delicious on its own. After going back & forth over so many options to choose from, I finally picked the Jamaican Tofu (pan fried crispy tofu, steamed veggies, brown rice & jerk sauce topped with chipotle veganaise & avocado, served with home fries & toast). The flavor of the jerk sauce was so incredible! All of the ingredients blended so well together too. My husband picked the Portabella Benedict (spinach, portobello mushrooms, & poached eggs on an English muffin with jalapeño hollandaise topped with avocado, green onion, & sun-dried tomato pesto, served with home fries). He said it was super yummy & somehow ate it maybe 3 bites! I definitely want to come back to try some other options like their vegan BLT, a tofu scramble, or their southwestern turkey melt but veganized! read more
