I happen to go there for a birthday party on a Saturday, we had multiple sections. Since it was the rodeo cookoff time it started off not that crowded. This is one of those spots if you don't have a section be prepared to stand all night. There is an outside patio to sit but the birthday group we took over that spot. As it got later more people pulled it and the crowd was younger. The DJ that night was cool and the music was straight. In my opinion the drinks were water down and no kick to it. There is a guy cooking on the patio, taco, boudin, and wings, they said the tacos are good. Valet parking that night was $20 and there is street parking but I assume you need to get there earlier. At the end of the night there was another chef cooking pasta dishes. I will say this is for the younger squad. read more

This place is trash. Shootings, your car will most likely get broken into. The security is a joke and the pictures on the website are a lie. This club brings in nothing but trash and it is becoming increasing unsafe for home owners, apartment residents and their patrons. There was a shooting last night and the shooter was walking up and down the side street with a shotgun. The police didn't respond for 2 hours while an active shooter was out. Neighbors have witnessed people coming and leaving the club breaking into vehicles on the side streets where residents and club patrons park. This is my 4th time here. I think is wrong to force a 20% tip on tbe bill. I did not realize it was lumen practice until i read the review. Valet parking is $60 and to park in the front, you hv to pay $100. They hv Latin music last night. Place gets crowded very fast. By midnight, there hardly any place to move. There are 2 dance floors inside and an outdoor patio. I'm really not pleased with my experienced there . They need to have a complete whole different staff. (1st) off me and my girl walk up to the bar. Not my typical hangout, but if you're the type to go out on a "school night," check out Lumen on a Tuesday night. The place is packed with young twenty-somethings, along with the occasional old fogies who have yet to let go of their partying ways. I think I was the only girl in there with a dress longer than mid-thigh. Spotted a kid with a Mohawk who strutted around like he was a local celebrity - yes, it's *that* kind of place. It's a large venue, with lots of lights (hence the name "lumen"), a dance floor, lengthy bar and DJ spinning from a raised area. He takes song requests, but I was bummed he didn't have my current jam, "Yellow Diamonds." No cover on Tues; there's valet, but plenty of street parking. read more

If you like EDM, this seems to be an okay club to go. I've only been here twice, both times for a friend's birthday party. First time around, we just waltzed in because we came in a limo. Second time around, I had to pay $10 cover even though he had bottle service. However, after I got in, I was told nobody else paid cover. DUBYA TEE EFF, hot blonde girl charging me cover?! No issue at the door with the bouncer, though. I came in a button down shirt with a nice pair of jeans and dress shoes. However, I did see a couple of guys in the club in t-shirts even though the dress code states that collard shirts are required. Drink prices pretty comparable to other clubs. They have a small dance floor, but no worries since nobody was really dancing. And this was on a Saturday night around midnight. They have a nice sized patio, a very lengthy, and good looking servers. Music is way loud so you really have to scream in each other's ear to speak, or walk out to the patio. It's actually very nicely decorated inside, but the dance floor is small and they mainly focus on the VIP tables. The night I went it wasn't too packed so it wasn't too hard getting in. Definitely better places. This place has an odd floor plan and they partially block the dance floor view if you're hanging out near the bar. They have a few booths for VIP. Charged $10 to enter on a Saturday and it was dead inside. Ridiculous to charge when no one is inside. I've been here a few times and while it can get packed some times, I never have and never will like the way the place is laid out. This tends to be more of a Latin club but they mix hip hop in and rarely any kind of edm. I think there are better places to go. Great young atmosphere, but there are many negative things need to be changed. First, parking is very limited, and you need to get a valet for $10. Second, drinks are extremely expensive and light. Been there twice. Kirby is a convenient location, decent music, good people watching, love the big sparklers they bring along when someone orders a bottle, nice patio. Tips: Parking: if you don't want to valet and get there late, everyone tries to park in the street behind the club. You might have an easier time finding street parking across Kirby. Entrance: Velvet rope syndrome (this is Houston, not Miami). In practice, it really isn't that bad (they need business), and to be fair it does get crowded fast after 11, but if you're a guy and want to get in on a busy night, either: A) get there early, B) bring a girl, or C) tip the door guy Bartenders: this was a big downside. They seemed courteous and prompt, but for the same order three different bartenders charged me $16, $18 and $20. Did I look drunk to the last one, or was that price boosting working with everyone? Or does "gratuity included" kick in later in the night? I usually tip pretty good, but I couldn't reward that behavior. read more

Have been there a couple of times, last night was brutal. Group of friends showed up, had reserved a table with "bottle service". Bouncer denied entry to entire party when there was nobody inside. I think they wanted to make all the males in the party pay an additonal cover charge even though they were spending XX amount of money on overlypriced grey goose. This is a toss up guys!!! I like the location, hate the parking and valet is crazy overpriced ($20). The DJ is decent in my opinion but don't expect a normal hip hop club dance scene. Has plenty of room for private parties, drinks are not overpriced but again, not cheap. Would i come again? I don't know, it's a toss up. The crowd was not great, I think being a new club you'll have a big mixture of people. I mean, questionably young to questionably old. Mostly, questionable young. Roll the red carpet up and pull the ropes back in, you're not that fancy. The yelp pictures are accurate. The ambiance is nice and clean. The staff was courteous. The music was more house mixed with hip hop. Bottle service with fireworks coming out so everyone knows that you purchased a bottle. Kinda like most clubs in Vegas. -I guess some people like that attention. Get the idea of what kind of place it is? I liked the wide variety of Three Olive flavors they stock. 6 cocktails and $70 later (incl. tip) I vowed I wouldn't come back unless it's for an occasion. This place definitely has a following but not the place to go if you're not a "Top 40" fan. I went this past Sunday (9-1-13) with family (under 30 might I add)......while we had a good time because we were all together......I will not be returning. The DJ or "Hype Man" constantly screaming over the songs is very annoying to me! We get it....you want us to party....shut up already! I enjoy the Hip Hop and Salsa/Reggaeton music....but totally lost interest once they began to play House Music, its just not my personal preference. One HUGE turn-off for me was when a so-called bouncer made my sister & I get up from an area that looks to be for people who reserve a section...however....it was about 1:40am and it was near closing time, and the people were no longer there in the club, so what difference does it make!!?? Seriously dude?? The patio is nice a spacious, as well as there being an additional bar out there so that is a "plus". Bathrooms were clean each time I went, which is also very important. Overall, the place is very nice on the inside, just not for me, someone who likes majority Rap/Hip Hop, R&B & Reggae when I go out. Went to Lumen Lounge on a Friday night!! Very nice inside and out!! Pretty decor and awesome sound system...plays up beat dance music! Lighting is cool too and the restrooms were very clean. Drinks were great very tasty! Reasonably priced 7 bucks or less. Brand new business they said they had been opened for 2 weeks. Also they said it gets better on Saturdays ...haven't been on a Saturday yet. I was looking for a spot to have my bday and this place has a big dance floor and plenty of space to move around. Also there are lots of spots for VIP. The other thing I liked is there were the tables that light up that people can dance on. Pretty neat! The staff was very nice and bartenders were cool and social! The only down fall was it was a little dead on Friday some people showed up toawrds the end and it was starting to fill up but it was close to midnight. I think I will check it out for a Saturday.... Went to Lumen with a couple people visiting from LA on a Saturday night in January. It was the first weekend of the year. We had fun, largely due to DJ Mr. Rogers playing great music and knowing how to keep the crowd going. However, the layout of the "lounge" could be different. It's not really a lounge in my opinion. It's basically a bar with a dance floor. There are only like 3 couches which are reserved for people that pay for it. There are 2 tables with chairs near the bar but it's so close to the bar that it gets really tight and hard to walk around when the place gets busy. It got so crowded that management came and made us get up from our table and chairs to make more room. *side eye* It looked like there was a small patio but I didn't go outside because it was raining. The DJ mentioned hookah but I never saw anyone smoking hookah and I also don't know where they would have sat the hookahs - there was literally only 2 tables inside plus a few low tables by the couches. There's an adjacent lounge but it costs $40 to get in and $20 to get into Lumen only. Lumen also had free before 11 if you RSVP on eventbrite. The drinks were VERY pricey. The average price is about $15 even for simple things like a tequila sunrise. One thing that I did like about Lumen is the atmosphere. It was a professional, grown & sexy kind of crowd. This is a very uncomfortable and pointed review. We were treated poorly and and sectioned separately from the black patrons, as the only white patrons there. We were red roped and told we could not get in through any admission line. Our names were on the list, we had friends at a table. Meanwhile the bouncer was letting in groups of back patrons with out asking for IDs or cover charges, through general admission. No line to get in, we had not had any drinks, and were dressed appropriately. We came to TX to have fun and instead experienced racism. Recently moved here from NYC, we came to Lumen for my friends birthday this past saturday. I don't know if I have a different lounge/club standard coming from NY nightlife, but we had a great time at this place. We had a reserved table all night with bottle service, the server was great and very attentive, she made all the guests drinks at the beginning which was a nice surprise. Nobody had trouble getting in, even guys who came much later in the night. The place never got crowded, the music was typical house, the opener and main DJ were great and kept the dance floor going. There's an nice outdoor area for smokers, I'm still adjusting to the heat and humidity here so wasn't outside too much but there was a bar outside as well. The crowd was also great, well dressed, well behaved. Only thing I could probably say was a negative was the bathroom attendant. Not necessary for a small club like that, and she stayed on her phone the entire time. I was concerned I didn't have any bills to tip her, but in the end she didn't even acknowledge I was in there. At least the bathrooms were clean. Will definitely be back on another house/trance night, our crowd is a fan of Lumen. read more

It was my first time at Lumen and I have to say i was impressed for such a nice place in a shopping strip. Not only is Lumen a very nice club they have a 2nd room which is connected to the club and has a great New York lounge vibe. Out on a date or just a boys night out this is a great club in my opinion and Ive traveled all around the world and seen lots of clubs/lounge. To the smokers they have a nice covered patio that is right on Kirby St. and live music played with a bar and they serve Hookah. read more

Decided to check it out when they brought in a DJ from New York. I rounded up a coworker and we made an evening out of it. Online everyone made a big deal about the line and how packed it got. So we broke down and got tickets, we showed up right at 10 and we were the only people in the bar for a good hour. The tickets were a waste of money there was no charge nor request for them. The club is seeking a Vegas vibe which is fun, but there are only servers for bottle service, and the markup on drinks is outrageous, my suggestion is to pregame. Example, $10 for a basic lemon drop. The house dj is good, great dancing. There are obviously regulars, and they all know each other, but by the end of the evening it didn't matter, people had enough to drink and were friendly to everyone regardless of being "in their group". The guest DJ went on and was AMAZING. I got the feeling though people in Houston really don't understand EDM or house music. There were a few there that did but other than that it was a typical club crowd just out for fun. We had a great evening, will go again, will likely not buy a drink there though. read more

Don't bother. It was pretty dead when we arrived, but since we were early I still had hope. I wanted to sit down and get a drink and wait for the place to liven up. Nope. There is absolutely no where to sit unless you rent a $100 table ($356 if you just want the whole bottle service). Seeing as how there were only 30 people in this club at 11pm, for sure not worth it.
