Luna Rossa is my sister and brother-in-law's favorite restaurant. Aftry we joined them for dinner there we fully understood why. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is exceptional; even standard Italian dishes are made with extraordinary care. Adrian is the consummate host. A visit from him to your table enhances the experience. There are so many Italian restaurants in New Jersey, but Luna Rossa is a head above the rest. A few months later, we were attending a musical event in the Somerville area, and needed a meal afterwards. We immediately chose Luna Rossa, and had another exceptional meal. We live about 35 minutes away from the restaurant, but it's definitely worth the drive.

Antipasto -- with little meat and missing artichoke

The restaurant has no prominent signage and is not easy to find. The interior was nicely appointed, warm, and welcoming. Our large party of eleven was easily accommodated. Note that menu posted on their website does not reflect recent price increases. The large menu is supplemented with many daily specials. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, although service was a bit slow at times. He made a mistake with one order, but that error was satisfactorily corrected. Almost everyone in our party complimented the quality of the food, which was also of adequate quantity. One exception was the Antipasto I received which was far below my expectations. The "cold cuts" named in the menu consisted of four, small pieces of Prosciutto. Lots of canned green olives and dried tomatoes dominated the dish, along with some hard cheese squares. The best part was the few slices of fresh tomato and mozzarella. The drizzled-on balsamic dressing was sparingly applied for presentation rather than for taste or enjoyment. The artichokes cited in the menu were nowhere to be found. I can only surmise that either the chef never read the menu, or the restaurant was poorly supplied. Probably the worst antipasto I've ever been served. Avoid it! Keep in mind that my rating will reflect my personal experience. Others in my party would likely rate it higher.

    Chicken Parmigiana

We decided on getting takeout food the other night. It was our first time here. The manager was very friendly and helpful. We ordered eggplant parmigiana and chicken parmigiana sandwiches. The sandwiches were huge. The bread was so fresh and the tomato sauce was out of this world. While we waited for our sandwiches we listened to the Italian music they were playing in the restaurant. If you have not tried Luna Rossa it is worth the trip.

    Insalata Arugula with Grilled Chicken

This order was picked up for take out and everything was ready as well as the order being correct. The menu had a number of pizzas to choose from along with lots of Italian dishes. I went with an insalata arugula with grilled chicken. It contained baby arugula, roasted peppers, tomatoes, mozzarella, with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. This was very tasty. They did not skimp out on the chicken at all, and it was perfectly cooked. The balsamic was of the thick variety which went well with everything. All ingredients seemed fresh too. It was a simple salad executed well. Will I go back? I would.

Went here with family and was provided the private room for a surprise party- staff was very nice! Pre-fixe menu, but you could chose your entree. We passed around apps, which were Fried calamari, mozzarella/tomato salad and eggplant rollatini which was good! We also each got small caesar salads. I ordered Veal Marsala - it was a bit chewy and hard to cut so sadly didn't love it. But I also tried chicken piccata and it was delish! The sauce was perfect with the penne pasta and chicken was cooked very good. Not too much breading either - we then passed around assorted desserts! They offered coffee, expresso, and tea. Overall nice spot, no frills but good.

It was very good. Not greasy or over seasoned. And for my main course, I had calamari, shrimp and artichokes in a light tomato sauce ice linguine. It was very good. The service was good. Multiple servers and bus people attended us. They were really available. Would have been 5 stars if they had beer and wine liquor license. Hope they are working on that.

The ambiance and service were all excellent (although it's a bit loud and cramped inside), but I was truly blown away by the food. I ordered the fried zucchini flower as an appetizer and the Bucatini alla Nonna as an entree. The zucchini flower was very popular and I noticed everyone around us ordering it. The flower itself was crispy and warm, and then stuffed with a rich and creamy cheese filling. It was much better than I expected, and I can see why the dish was so popular. My Bucatini was similarly amazing. I did not expect the pasta to be home-made, as this isn't heavily advertised for the restaurant, but the pasta was so fresh and actually home-made. The pasta was cooked perfectly (not too al dente but still with a bite). Even in NJ, I have found it so hard to find pasta that is truly home-made and cooked this well. The sauce was also exceptional. I truly enjoyed this meal and can't wait to return.
