Cozy restaurant with real Italian trattoria ambiance. Not very expensive but not inexpensive. I had the fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta cheese for my appetizer. It was very good. Not greasy or over seasoned. And for my main course, I had calamari, shrimp and artichokes in a light tomato sauce ice linguine. It was very good. The service was good. Multiple servers and bus people attended us. They were really available. Would have been 5 stars if they had beer and wine liquor license. Hope they are working on that. read more

SO IMPRESSED by Trattoria Mediterranea! This was maybe the best Italian food I have had in NJ. I never get excited about getting Italian food (I grew up in an Italian family and no one makes Italian food better than my mom) but I will definitely be returning to this place. The ambiance and service were all excellent (although it's a bit loud and cramped inside), but I was truly blown away by the food. I ordered the fried zucchini flower as an appetizer and the Bucatini alla Nonna as an entree. The zucchini flower was very popular and I noticed everyone around us ordering it. The flower itself was crispy and warm, and then stuffed with a rich and creamy cheese filling. It was much better than I expected, and I can see why the dish was so popular. My Bucatini was similarly amazing. I did not expect the pasta to be home-made, as this isn't heavily advertised for the restaurant, but the pasta was so fresh and actually home-made. The pasta was cooked perfectly (not too al dente but still with a bite). Even in NJ, I have found it so hard to find pasta that is truly home-made and cooked this well. Great dinner with friends. We had their antipasto for 4. Stand outs were the arancini, the stuffed zucchini flower and the salami. Everyone had a different entree- classic lasagna, rigatoni with baby meatballs in a red sauce, homemade fettuccini with lobster, shrimp and clams in a light cream sauce and chicken francese. Everything was prepared beautifully and tasted delicious. We even had two desserts-classic tiramisu and tartufo plus excellent espresso. Highly recommend this restaurant. Went with a group of five and enjoyed zucchini flowers, vodka pasta, carpaccio, outstanding bread and Caesar salad but the real hit was the veal parm. 01/04/25 Update: I spoke with one of the owners, Dominic and he was sincerely apologetic. He made no excuses. After speaking, I told him that my wife and I will be back. I appreciate an owner taking the time to reach out to me. My wife I went for New Years. We sat down and felt misled. They had the price fixe menu out, giving the impression that it was the only option and server presented it in that fashion. 1- the table for two was more like a single. Everything on our table was smushed together. Our dinner plates were oversized and not because of a huge portion so my plate was hanging off the edge of the table. 2- first course of this bread and marinara wasn't bad. 3- lentil soup not great but okay. 4- antipasto, best thing was tomato and mozzarella which requires very little prep. 5- cannelloni was good in my opinion but my wife scraped the meat out and only ate the pasta. 6- main course of seafood fra Diavolo had one shrimp and a bunch of mussels, my wife's dish was chicken and sausage. A whole chicken breast, not prepared as I would have expected from fine dining. 7- tiramisu was good. Service was not good. A bunch of servers running around, the server came out with our soup and our table hadn't even been cleared. I understand that because of the holiday the kitchen and staff may be overwhelmed but, the overall execution was not good and, why would you plate food on oversized plates that don't fit on your tables. read more

We had the special Zucchini Flowers which are an unusual treat in NJ. However this restaurant should not attempt to have these on the menu. Mushy, no flavor and nothin like the authentic zucchini flower recipe. second, I had the Bronzino special (mistake) it was approx 4" long not broiled properly the fish was bland and mushy. Maybe it was a sunfish? My wife had chicken parm. no comment with rigatoni and red sauce! Overcooked pasta, metallic pseudo red sauce. We went here for our first (and last) time last night (11/15/25) to catch up with friends on our lives. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy. BUT...it's so overwhelmingly loud that we could barely hear one another or the waitstaff. There's absolutely no sound absorption qualities anywhere, which makes it beyond awful and unnecessary. An easy, inexpensive fix would be to add fabric-covered acoustic tiles to the walls and ceiling. Yelling to hear one another, and the other patrons doing so as well, escalates the uncomfortableness of trying to experience a lovely dining experience. Our friends had been here before and remembered why they'd only gone back twice within the last couple years. They won't be returning, again. The presentation of food is lovely, but we all found each of our entrees to be very bland. The waitstaff is wonderful, and the rolls were our favorite part of the meal. Really! Unfortunately, it wasn't worth our night, and we won't return as there are plenty of other Italian restaurants in which to dine. read more

Went here when I was looking for a restaurant since we were in this area late Sunday after a soccer game and it was also my husband's birthday. Looking for a restaurant that was nice and served good food. This hit all the boxes it was nice enough for a birthday dinner while also being casual enough to accept a familyin soccer jerseys and the little messy from being out all day. Very pleasant dinner in a pretty setting with excellent service. My Caesar Salad was definitely a 4.5 star or better as the dressing was right on point. The Burrata appetizer was decent but I was hoping for creamier. My wife had the chicken parm special. It was delicious and large enough for two people. I had the pork chop and while it was an excellent piece of meat it did not come out exactly as I had hoped. The menu described it as being served with hot peppers in a spicy balsamic sauce. I like spicy dishes but not too spicy at dinner time. So, I asked for it without the hot peppers figuring the spicy sauce would be sufficient for my taste buds. It came out in a sweet sauce. I am not sure if it was a miscommunication between me and the waiter or is it the hot pepper that would have kicked up the sauce. We showed up at this restaurant at 5pm tonight (Friday) at the recommendation of someone from our local wine store, and decided to give it a try. Armed with wine, we were lucky enough to get a table - this place was packed within 30 minutes! There was a menu, a Specials menu and an additional list of specials delivered by the waiter - we kept changing our minds because there were so many great options. We split the special appetizer, stuffed zucchini flowers - they were AMAZING! Light and delicious. We had a seafood risotto and a grilled swordfish special. The swordfish might be the best I've ever had. So tender and delicate. For dessert we asked to share at tartufo (we were both stuffed). They served the halves to us individually - SO appreciated and thoughtful!! After sampling I asked the server if the tartufo was home made, and they said it was. I thought it had to be because it was different (better) than any I've had. I will return to this place, and will make a reservation to be sure I get a seat! The restaurant was packed when we left. My family and I came to this restaurant on a Friday night to celebrate my Mother's birthday. We were a small party of four. The restaurant staff were very polite and efficient. The food was phenomenal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was atrocious. The acoustics were horrendous. In a small room in the front, we were situated among three other tables. Behind us was a table of 6 large, boisterous women who were drunk and loud. They were laughing and cackling at the highest possible volumes. At our table, we forced to literally shout to one another to speak. When the waiter started talking about the specials, I had to interrupt him to explain "I can't hear anything!" He apologized and said, even his wife doesn't scream like this. The table behind us were obnoxiously loud. It was completely inappropriate. They were drunk, middleaged, winos. They RUINED the dinner experience. The host who seated us said we were in the quietest of the two rooms. But the noise was inescapable. The issue was not so much the one bad table. It was the whole room. The whole room was loud. There was another table next to us who were much quieter, but we could still hear everything they were saying. We, as a family, could barely communicate to one another at our own table! On one hand, I cannot reiterate how delicious the food was. It truly was fantastic, and I give the food 5/5 stars. On the other, I cannot reiterate how bad the noise was. In fact, it was so unbearable, I vow to never come back. This would be a fun restaurant to visit during the week during a quiet lunch hour. A Friday night, really probably any dinner night, should be avoided at all costs. I am shocked the owners haven't implemented a noise dampening system of some kind. The tables are too close, the noises are just too loud. It was my Mother's birthday. I could barely wish her a Happy Birthday. What a shame. What a terrible, terrible, restaurant, and a terrible experience. I will *NEVER* come back to this place again. If I can't sit down, enjoy my meal, and TALK and HEAR my guests at a reasonable level, this is not a place I want to revisit. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Came for Valentine's Day and had the gnocchi. Best gnocchi I ever had. It was really fluffy and delicious. Their portions are generous. The Inside is more cozy then the outside looks. Definitely recommend trying this place out. read more

All the pastas are home made. For dinner, I had the pork bracciole with bucatini pasta. It was in a mushroom sauce, hd a great flavor and I would recommend it. Probably one of the better italian restaurants in the Somerset Hills. (Dare I say best?) I had only eaten here for the first time within the last 12 months, despite living locally for years. I was familiar with Bedminster Pizza, same owners and while that place is satistfactory (4 stars), this place is 5 stars The first time: I was about to order from the pizza side, when I was struck with a hankering for some more complex fare. I wasnt sure about the place next door, which never caught my attention, and seemed unnassuming. I was almost hesitant to try a place I'd never considered, But my hankering for baked ziti, lasagna and chicken marsala was overpowering. The entrees were VERY good...almost "too" good for my expection. So I thought... "is it a fluke?", so i tried an experiment. Over the course of the next few months, I would order baked ziti from other local italian places, with the expection that it would at least be similar. None of the other places were NEARLY as good. Some other joints with rave reviews werent even a quarter as good. So the experiment confirmed my presumption. (Note:you may be asking, "if you liked this baked ziti so much, why wouldnt you just order it from this place? Why waste time with other zitis you find inferior? Answer: Haven't you ever heard of the scientific method, you plebeian rube!!!!??!) The actual truth: I am too stupid to understand why I conducted it that way... Anyway, the place flies above its quiet and small vibe, and goes the extra mile to make everything high quality. I am a somewhat snobby eater, no less! read more

In an effort to be completely transparent and honest the food at Trattoria Mediterranea is uniformly excellent the service is first-rate and the atmosphere while very loud, I'll just characterize as extremely "active" but... I will never return here under any circumstance. Long story short, I selected Bedminster as a mid-point to meet friends from New York and Trattoria specifically based on some excellent reviews. We were not disappointed until the last thirty seconds of our evening where the establishment completely blew any goodwill completely to hell. This is a restaurant that caters to many regulars and as is customary in such situations the hostess spent lots of time at each table making the usual small talk and checking in. Halfway through our meal I noticed she kept looking towards out table more than frequently. As the meal was wrapping up and credit card receipts were signed she came and asked rather abruptly if we would leave because other customers were waiting for our table. We were not lingering and as far as I could tell many other tables were involved in post-dinner conversations. My assumption is that they were "regulars" not to be disturbed. Lucky us. In all the decades I have been eating in fine and not so fine restaurants around the world this is the first time I have given the bums rush. Look, I'm not a rube and I know restaurants want to turn tables on a busy evening but there's a way to do something that says we know we're in the service business. A-OK red-sauce joint and I say that with love. Formal and quiet even at lunch, fresh hot crispy rolls appear on the white tablecloth and there's a bottle of olive oil at the ready. The menu offers appetizers, salads, primi (pasta) dishes and secondi (meat) dishes. Don't look for a casual (read: cheap) sandwich at lunch, the menu has just slightly smaller/cheaper versions of the pasta and entrees from dinner. Our waiter said they make all their pasta in house. I enjoyed a large plate of tubes with spicy sausage, very good, $16 at lunch. BYO. There is this Italian restaurant, some people refer to it as a hidden gem. I have been there a handful of times, always with the regular, so we receive an excellent, friendly service at all time. This is not a quick lunch grab kind of a place, more of a nice, relaxing, long lunch (or dinner) spot. So don't venture out there if you are in a rush. The restaurant has two dining rooms, one to the right of the fireplace, a bit smaller, and another room to the left which is much larger. When I visit this restaurant, I almost always order their specials, they always have about two of pasta, fish, and meat special each day, and they all sounds really good. That is the reason why I can't resist them... When we are there with a group of 4 or more, which we usually are, we get the assortment of antipasti. These are always excellent! We get some prosciutto, cheese, sausage, grilled veggies, tomato & mozzarella, and few other things. They are all very fresh, delicious, satisfying and delicious. This dish alone can be a reason for the visit. They have high quality meats, cheese, and veggies so that each items are flavorful. The service is warm and friendly, but slow. It is a perfect spot for relaxing, long lunch without being rushed out. The food is fresh and good quality, and I haven't had a single thing that I didn't like here. Everything is really good, tasty, and most of all, I enjoy the homey atmosphere. One thing to mention, they are BYOB, so bring a bottle of your favorite wine (or two) to go with your lunch or dinner.
