We went for a mid afternoon Sat lunch for our first visit. The food was surprisingly fresh, delicious and made to order - chips as well. The smash burger is delicious for those not feeling a traditional taco meal. The atmosphere has a fun relaxed vibe and our waiter Deno was a 10 out of 10. Right near the train station in Swarthmore, Luna's had good food and friendly service but the vibe is more wine bar with Mexican food than what I think of as a Mexican restaurant. Chips and pico were okay but chips were thick and super crunchy while salsa was flavorful but very wet and drippy. I had the chile rellanos special which used an Italian long hot instead of a poblano and it was flavorful and spicier than expected but tasty. My son had the tacos dorado as a burrito and it was very large. He liked it but it was very starchy with the rice and refried beans rolled up with the beef and potatoes. Again, tasty but a little difficult. The TV behind the bar had the Phillies game on but no one seemed to be watching. The breakfast menu looks very good and I would return to try that. read more

Happened by Luna's while the girls were at theater rehearsal just down the road and decided to do a kind of anniversary brunch thing once we got coffee nearby and looked at the menu. As soon as I saw all the brilliant breakfast choices there was absolutely no way that I could say no. I am a chilaquiles enthusiast, but after taking some time and looking at the menu, this was surprisingly not what I actually went with! The tiny place is very cute and has a wonderful friendly vibe with some wonderful people working inside. Everyone we encountered had a wonderful attitude, and was more than open to discuss the menu, ideas for things that could be added, as well as just banter about the place, the owner, and how it had been so far. We ended up getting the carne asada fries, of which the greatness cannot be understated. These were so good that Jen could not help but to share them with me. I had ordered the migas, which is essentially a tortilla and egg scramble, close to chilaquiles, but definitely not the same, so do not be confused. I chose the migas as I had never had it, but will definitely be returning to enjoy their chilaquiles. Everything had definite authentic flavor and was cooked perfectly but I do think they have toned things down a bit in the kitchen on the spiciness side, as the heat level was far lower than I would normally expect, or enjoy. However, I asked if they possibly had some fresh Serrano, and although they only had jalapeño, the wonderful chefs grabbed a huge, fresh, juicy jalapeño and seeded, veined, and diced the whole pepper and brought it out so I could add it to my migas. Absolutely perfect and an amount of friendly care you won't necessarily get everywhere! We are frequently in Swarthmore for one reason or another and will definitely be back. I cannot wait to try the chilaquiles, as is obvious from the paragraph above, but also am really looking forward to enjoying dinner here as well. If you are a member of this close-knit community, you likely already know about this place and that it is located in the location where the wine bar used to be. But if you don't know yet, get over here asap, it's a great addition to Park Ave and feels right at home along with all the other businesses that line the cute little strip there. If you don't live in town, as I don't, take a little trip and come for lunch or dinner and enjoy your time for the farmer's market on the weekend! read more

We had heard so many great things about Luna's and it was even better than we could have ever imagined. The tacos dorados were amazing and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. The tinga tacos were delicious and are definitely worth reordering! The service was amazing and the owner and her son were super sweet and friendly. We stopped by Luna's for lunch and are thrilled to finally have an authentic Mexican restaurant nearby! We had the Tacos Dorados, Spanish rice, and beans. The tacos were packed with filling and reminded us of the food our moms make, especially the added potatoes. The rice was soft and the beans were so creamy... it felt like home! We also enjoyed the fresh tortilla chips and pico. **Update** So... we've been back a few more times and it is still great! The staff and owner are so nice, and we finally had beautiful weather, so we could sit on the patio! We've now tried their breakfast burritos, nachos (with chicken tinga), birria tacos, street tacos, Agua Frescas... all positive! We gave this place two tries, and all three of us walked away with the same reaction both times: just not good. The food is marginal in quality, the dishes feel uninspired, and the portions are tiny. The queso was watery both visits, which turned the nachos into a soggy mix of chips, pico, and bland cheese. The single most divine pancake I have ever experienced, and I have looked everywhere. It's served here, at Luna's in Swarthmore. Couldn't believe it. I bring other people here to see their reaction to it so I can relive that first pancake vicariously. I thought for many years that this ideal pancake texture and taste only existed in my memories of childhood, I looked so far and wide and never quite found it. Just can't believe it! It's right here! They call them Tres Leches pancakes. You can also get them in place of tortillas on the breakfast tacos. If I had my own R&D department, I would order my best people to figure out exactly how they're made. Fluffy, crispy, sopping with just the right amount of butteriness to hit that spot without becoming too soaked and ruined. You don't need syrup, you don't need butter, and you might not want to waste your time picking up utensils. I just truly kid you not. The other food is fantastic, but my God that pancake! So this little place in the little town of Swarthmore is lovely. Nice atmosphere with outside dining available. They just opened a few weeks ago but the liquor license is com8ng through within days. This is authentic tacos, rice and beans. They serve breakfast as well. The platters come with 3 tacos , rice and beans for around $15 bucks. Soda/ iced tea $4 a piece. Freshly prepared pico and chips served up for $5. I can imagine once fresh produce is available? It will bring things up a notch because imagine farm fresh tomatoes, peppers, cilantro...yeah it will be nice. So they have pork, beef, steak, fish tacos. They do have a child friendly menu as well. Service was excellent, the owners son was so nice and seems like a sweet young man who took good care of us. Once they have more time I'm sure the margaritas will flow, desserts will be available and the menu will expand...im saving my last star for that! read more
