The atmosphere is like no other and the love and pride for Puerto Rico is unmatched. The live music stages are set up on various streets, the food and alcohol are a plenty and the celebration is REAL! Wear your walking shoes because there is so much to see, hear, drink and eat. This year broke records of over 1million people in the streets of Old San Juan over the 4 days. It is a culture to embrace. It was an experience my gal and I will never forget. It's basically four days and nights of their island version of Mardi Gras! While we were there the weather was absolutely perfect. Warm sunny days to explore, shop, walk the streets of pastel colored buildings and houses, visit historic sights, and do the touristy thing. Even paid a trip to the Bacardi rum distillery, and bartended a bit while enjoying some libations. Oh yeah! The eats? OMG - the Mofongo here is insanely good! So much delicious food. I am now a Mofongo addict. We had a chance to dine at many of the small cafes, and always tried to eat where the locals went. Then, awesome nights under the stars partying our asses off until midnight each evening. Even though we were surrounded on packed cobblestone streets with literally a hundred thousand other party animals each night, we loved it and never felt crowded in and stomped on. The people attending this festival were so friendly and respectful. Even when drinking and dancing to terrific DJ's, salsa bands, and numerous singers along the streets and plazas, if anyone bumped into us or stepped on our feet there was always an "excuse me" or "sorry buddy". Very warm, well behaved, and considerate people. The entertainment that performs at SanSe is top-notch. We did so much dancing that we slept so well when we plopped into bed afterwards. It was a fun way to get exhausted, then happily do it all over again the next day! The best part of the festival was wandering around, walking down some side street, and happening upon another party. Just some people playing instruments, the locals in lawn chairs, and breakout dancing in celebration. Anybody walking by was invited to join in. Loved it! Oh, and there were so many stands set up to try their street foods, and island cuisine mainstays. Bars were everywhere serving up ridiculously cheap beer and mixed drinks. Booze stands would pop up everywhere, including doorways to buildings were there should not be one. $2 beers. $3-5 large mixed drinks. It was easy on the wallet, and those drinks were not weak at all. I have to say, we felt pretty safe the whole time. The police force was out in full force, and they look like the types you don't mess around with. Very well organized event. We had booked this trip at last minute, as JetBlue had a getaway travel package that was hard to pass up. It was a no-brainer. Definitely, one of the best vacations we have ever been on. Hands down. Then, we all know what happened when hurricane Maria hit. Poor PR, and it's people, were destroyed. There is still widespread damage, a lot of the island has no power, and most services are not functional. Even to this day a year later. We hope and pray for PR, as we want to go back in support, and experience the culture, friendliness, and warmth that we were surrounded with. My heart goes out to the people there. Yes, we will party with you all again at San Sebastian. We can't wait to go back in the future and dance the nights away. Plus, I need my Mofongo! Long live SanSe!

The docent gave me a one on one tour and explained more about Doña Fela (who I only knew about from the parking garage of the same name) and her politics and role in founding the Head Start program. We saw the following birds: hummingbird, junglefowl, dove, thrasher, and tons of grackles. There's a lot of walking together around, but you will see iguana, snake, lizards, and more.

There is parking and overflow parking-for overflow they have a cart that brings you to the gate. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the gate. They are $13 for adults and $8 for under 12 or over 60 and the ticket includes cable cart ride, aviary, butterfly garden , and a ride to the waterfall stop and observation tower, which at the end drops you off at the entrance again. It had just rained when we arrived so we didn't see a lot of butterflies, just between 10-15 monarch which were beautiful. They do have a lot of cockatoos of many colors and sizes, flamingos, and peacocks. The birds are all over, some very close to the walk path. After that you board the cart to the waterfall- it's a quick walk from the drop off point, and there's a bit of a hike to the observation tower but it's worth it. Overall it was a really fun afternoon. It can be enjoyed in 2-3 hrs taking your time

The bird and butterfly pavilions are simply amazing. The animals are so close that at times you almost wonder if they are real until a bird squawks, blinks, or moves. The experience feels much more personal than many larger attractions and was a huge hit with our children. The cable cars are an incredible experience and offer some truly spectacular views. Riding above the forest is something we will remember for a long time. However, if you have an extreme fear of heights, you should know that this attraction may be challenging. The views throughout the park are beautiful, and there are several small playgrounds where children can take a break and play. There are also long nature trails and an observation tower that offer even more opportunities to enjoy the scenery. That said, visitors should understand that this is a physically demanding park in some areas. If you have mobility limitations, certain disabilities, or are pushing a stroller, you may not be able to experience everything. There are many long walking paths, steep hills, and staircases throughout the park. The park does provide warning signs before many of these sections, so pay attention to them. The path leading to the cable cars also includes stairs, and during our visit the elevator was out of service. This made things particularly difficult for visitors with disabilities and families using strollers. Bring water. Bring snacks. Do not attempt to visit without them, especially if you plan to explore the trails. The Puerto Rico heat and the amount of walking can catch up with you quickly. Transportation is another thing visitors should plan carefully. We relied on Uber, which worked, but drivers generally only dropped us off and picked us up at the main parking lot rather than the actual park entrance. The distance is significant enough that visitors must take the shuttle bus to the entrance. The shuttle runs regularly and gets the job done, but think converted school bus rather than luxury transportation. The gift shop is somewhat small and the prices are a bit high, but honestly, it felt worthwhile. Purchasing something there felt like supporting the important work being done at the park. Overall, our family had an outstanding experience. I think Parque Forestal La Marquesa is a perfect introduction to nature and hiking for children who may not yet be ready for more demanding adventures like El Yunque. It allows kids to experience the beauty of Puerto Rico's natural environment in a setting that feels adventurous while still being family friendly. We made wonderful memories here and would absolutely visit again!

To enter it was $6 but they only accepted American express as far as credit cards go (so have some cash). The design rooms give a good description and idea of Puerto Rican design in the 50s. The whole museum shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and it's about a 15 minute walk to Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico. Not sure if there was parking but we ended up finding street parking relatively close.

This amusement park operates during winter break and in the summer. There are two ways to enter:…read moreone from the main entrance across from Plaza; the other via the entrance near Eco's Sports Park. We came here with some friends whose son is in our son's classroom. We had a good time overall. It helped that we went on a Monday. There weren't a lot of people so wait times were low. General admission has risen over the years. It was for $80 for my wife and I. Our friends bought a family package that included two adults and two kids, so our son's ticket was less. Add to that the concessions and games which cost extra and you're looking at a costly night out. At least the rides are included. They have a decent variety of rides and attractions, ranging from kid friendly to more hardcore ones. Unfortunately, there were some areas that smelled of barf from those who couldn't handle the hardcore rides. While I didn't hurl, I did realize that I can longer do spinning rides anymore, lol. Still, we had fun. The kids had a blast, so it was worth doing at least once during the season.

Tonight, we took the kids to La Feria to see what this annual carnival is all about. We were not…read moredisappointed! There were so many things to do and tons of rides for the kids that we spent about three hours wandering around wondering what to do next. My kids loved it! There was a petting zoo that had several animals for the kids to feed/pet. This is an American operated carnival, so most of the workers were flown in from the USA and obviously speak English. I asked one of the workers where he was from and he said, "Baltimore!" and I said, "I'm from Cleveland!" There was a large stage in the middle with what appeared to be a karaoke contest happening. That was pretty loud and entertaining. There are four different roller coasters of varying sizes for your enjoyment. We're not talking Cedar Point here, but being the only roller coasters in Puerto Rico, they're okay for the kids to start on. It was a bit pricey, however. For two adults and two children, the entrance fee was $60. Then, some of the rides and attractions required additional tickets to be purchased. If you wanted a family photo with a bird on your shoulder: $10! The fun houses were $2.00 each and all of the games cost extra. Most of the rides were free, but the lines were long, even on a Monday night. If you're a teenager in San Juan, don't miss La Feria!

I especially amore Old San Juan because of el 16th century Dutch & Spanish architecture. El pirate wars & of course I was black beard in a previous life (arrrrrrr)! On one of my pirate runs I literally ran into a very old stadium with a statue of a boxer at el entrance. I had no clue of it's existence or who this person was. Obviously a legend in el barrio, but what was & who was he. El plaque read "Sixto Escobar, 1913...". Hmm name sounded familiar and El Papi would know, but I had no time to rotary dial Papi and just had to find out what this was all about. Nada was listed on Yelp (arrr)! Google to el rescue and... "Estadio Sixto Escobar: The stadium was opened on November 12, 1935. The Cincinnati Reds has conducted spring training at the stadium since 1936. In April 1938, the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico voted to name the stadium and surrounding park in honor of Sixto Escobar, a Puerto Rican professional boxer who became Puerto Rico's first world champion. A statue of Escobar stands on the grounds." "Many events of the 1979 Pan American Games were held at the stadium." - triposo Wow! A legendary boxer and historic stadium! And it's all because I was casually strolling through a lovely Spanish barrio towards the Barcardi distillery. I explored around el stadium & appreciated el history here... a strong Spanish presence filled el air & just a stones throw from el beach. I wondered if Sixto had a hammock, maybe?! I didn't get el chance to peek inside el stadium since my pirate blood was screaming for a piña colada... stat (arrr!), but I am glad my paths crossed w/ Estadio Sixto Escobar! A true boxing legend! This spot is highly regarded by the locals as a bar with reasonably priced drinks and good food. Puerto Rico has tons of tropical fruits and I ordered the parcha mojito (aka) passion fruit. It was so delicious with actual fruit and seeds in the mojito. For dinner we ordered the appetizer platter to share and a churrasco with rice, beans, and the jackfruit tostones (holy smoke delicious)! The platter is more than enough for four people to try out different frituras (fried foods). The jackfruit tostones are a must at this spot!
